I think they shouldn't stop us from holding/touching things (at least instantly) so we can avoid dying super fast and undress ourselves. The idea of disease spreading bugs is really cool though and I'd vote to just tweak them rather than remove them.

#227 Re: Main Forum » Having a child should be a moment of joy... not like getting spam » 2019-05-07 17:11:53

Let's not make babies get stuck with moms (referring to Jason's posts); if the babies don't want me, I don't want them either. People would just kill the moms they are stuck with.

I like the thought of having an investment before you are born. My immediate thought is a perk that is strongest the first life you roll. Then it weakens the more you /die. But that's kinda like a soft restriction in a disguise.

The most important thing is that moms don't suffer if their baby is a picky person. Bones are a hindrance, angry babies are a hindrance, cooldown is a hindrance.

I do wish we could make the game so good we'd eagerly take any life we get but rebirth and player preferences are really difficult obstacles to overcome. Possibly impossible to overcome. But surely there are ways to tweak the situation. Good and bad.

I liked the southernmost bell town, the nameless/signless one with the large desert and unfinished road. Went to spend three lives there just because it was the best of the three. First life I spent there I was a lone male and traveled 4k from a dead camp (Eis family). But Feuers got there and repopulated it, and then I got born into some Feuer village near(ish) Divatown, ran to my fav town asap (around 2-3k maybe?). Buried my earlier life bones and friends. Then third life got born into An family in Divatown iirc. Again ran asap and spent the life in the southernmost town. Got a spring added onto the door (honors go to Honor Feuer for that). Almost finished flooring.

Thea XII, Thea Feuer XI and Burak says hi to
Ned Eis, James Eis (yes I watered your maples!), Lisa Feuer XI, Bella Feuer II, Great, Rett, Tyson Feuer, Ole XI aaand Honor Feuer.

I find it very sad, because this practice is doing a lot of damage to the players, to the lineages, and to OHOL

I'm sick of fighting to get a good level of YUM and temperature and get a lot of suicidal babies

I have heard you plenty of times and always the solution is "punish them, restrict them". Anything else?
I just can't speak for you or defend your solutions when I do not see them as the right way to fix it.

I'd love it if the game handed you babies who are very likely to stay, wherever you are in the generations.
However, there will never be enough players to keep every family going. There are too many families to save.

I still think SID is the best way a lineage can end. And then if that happens, maybe a second chance so the "loss" is not so bitter.

The problem with taking cooldown on /die there is a huge stand that if you get a baby while on a cooldown, this kid would A. run away and suicide (and with that, not deleting my birthcooldown. While if they /die I don't have a cooldown) and B. if they decide to stay, they will gonna grief later. "Your stupid and I didn't like it hear, so I'm making sure you regret it!' that kinda stuff.

What I would suggest is to give people an indicator he wouldn't go back to his other life. Something like "You died from Starvation on age thirty - You won't come back here for ninety minutes." so that he wouldn't /die to ga back there. Would give an indicator that /die won't work.

Second, I would suggest that mothers won't get a birth cooldown the first ten seconds after a baby is born. That means that if I walk away to show Baby 1 a camp, I can put him down and pick Baby 2 up, without him already /die-ing on me so I get a cooldown. It now only counts when you pick it up, but at least 60% of the time I even can't pick it up (Because he dies in the first two seconds after birth.)

Beside that.. you can't push people to play a life he wouldn't want. The best way to work is with watching to the preferences/when someone /dies or run away. With that I mean this:
- Player A is not keen on playing as boy. If player A suicide by running/die-in enough the game would "learn" that and give him more chance to be a Girl in first change (So that he don't need to suicide.)
- Player B hates to be born in Eve-camps so as Eve or eve-kid. The game learns that and won't let player B born here. Or at least, far less. (So, player B would be born as gen 4 at least.)
- Player C hates the city with lots of people. Meaning that he will be more likely to be born in an Eve-camp or as eve's kids, because that's where he stays.
- Player D playes everywhere, always. Player D won't get a special role, but will be born in the cases where players A, B and C became less likely to be born.

^This is ofcourse not what the game stands for. The game stand for playing in whatever setting and whatever role (You will be born randomly), but it can work. If the different types go together, that means that there will be far less /die-ing, running or griefing by annoyed players (Because they are where they want to be.) and more cities surviving because they get people who wants to play there.

I agree to this fully.

Yeah, limit /die, people will run, poke bears, sit in snow, whatever it takes they'll get out. We should not limit /die thinking that'll fix it. It won't. Not even if there is a 0.5% chance of the kid staying because they had to sit a bit longer there. No, I don't buy that. That's way too unlikely to be a reason to limit /die.
Indications of lineage bans: yes, tell the player what they did and what they caused. I bet many clueless people are doing /die thinking they can get back to a family where they died as over 30 years old. "You are now unavailable to be born as a >family name where you just /died out of OR died in as over 30 year old<".
Rebirth is the bane of the game in a sense, as it makes life cheap and enables player pickiness. However, it's still a game, and it's an amazing thing that we commit to it for ONE HOUR per session! You can't force someone to commit to a game for one hour if they don't like the game. They'll do whatever to end it or to play in ways that you aren't supposed to play as they desperately try to drag entertainment out of a forced session. Then they stop playing altogether.

So, yes, let's rather connect players with similar preferences than let community punish each other with abandonment, cooldowns and ruined gameplay experiences.
You can't force a player to enjoy things they won't enjoy. They always have the freedom to pull the plug or hit alt F4. You can't fight against that. Rather find ways to encourage NOT pulling plugs, hitting alt F4 and make your game so good that people have hard time picking what they like the best.

Apparently many people in this forum defend this / die practice
but it has become a method to travel to other cities and the way I see this practice is killing the game

w/o /die they'd starve themselves to travel. And that's the way they like to play the game, so be it. But there should be solution (like family line one or something with burying people properly) - not sure what kind of solution will be found best.

Right now about 2 out of 9-11 babies of mine die, so I try not to pick'em up before they say/move/emote. Still often when I show them town then they /die, so I should drop'em first to local nursery fire for three minutes (looking like total newbie, wherein I'm just newbie lol)  and stick around a bit.

I like the pregnancy one and the soul idea. I'd love to jump into the body of almost 3 year old baby and get to work without the first boring minutes of baby life. I don't mind missing my birth or naming or obtaining a body that already exists. Spawning in next to a fire with almost 3 year old baby body would be great.
Anyways I defend /die command and the freedom to use it. And I don't use it btw. I don't defend the playstyle of "I pick where I live and don't care about you drowning in bones", yeah it's not cool, but I'm not about punishing or restricting players like that. I don't mind.

And yes lineages and towns dying to SID sucks, but I rest easy knowing it ended to people not wanting to be there.
But, I'd like to give a chance for those last mothers (and men, why not) to come back to revive the place, if they really want to bring it back. Then maybe when you get back, you get kids who want to stay this time around.

#238 Re: Main Forum » Ideas to make people care about and enjoy cities more. » 2019-05-01 07:56:26

I'd love it if we had upgradable items to work on in cities. Turning the central kilns and ovens into better ones for example, fancier stone ovens or such. Anvils for smith. And of course storage.

Maybe farmers could farm crops into better, bigger ones. First generations focus on getting wild plants into domestic(?) crops and then after that you could get better and better ones, maybe with special compost that takes more dung and something else, bone meal? These crops would be faster to grow but you have to breed them into existence with some fertilizers.
Good project to start in a property? Then when you have the upgraded milkweed you would bring the seeds to others.

#239 Re: Main Forum » Why does everybody only want to be Eve? » 2019-04-30 20:34:30

I never get to be Eve nowadays. Before, I think I've had like 5 real Eve lives during 6 months of gameplay. And those were from last year. I haven't been a real Eve at all 2019. Some people are chaining /dying to get to Eve, and so some never ever get to Eve (the ones who don't chain /die). We have lots of active hardcore Eve players who play to Eve, starting camps all around and splitting players around.

Early game is very different than city times. Early game you create, set a base for things, make visible structures and be a part of the creation of the core of a city.
In city times everything vital has been created already and you just fix, tweak or clean and arrange. You can create things but the place is so big nobody even sees what is just a bit outside of the core of the city. Your creations are pushed to the borders of a city and rarely people care what is around a city.

Anyways, I don't want to Eve, really. But in early game it's clear what is vital and what needs to be done next. It's clear as a day what is lacking and what is the hurdle the people have to focus on. What is the threat.
At city stage, there is no PvE threat, just people disconnecting, /dying and griefing. And goddamn drama and crowns and obnoxious people.

I hate drama. And I hate cities where there is drama.
I still play every life I get. But I wish cities had similar feeling as early game with challenging but exciting and fun urgency.

#240 Re: Main Forum » Why do you run away as a baby? Poll » 2019-04-30 15:21:19

Interesting, so the 'toggling lineages' thing is that common. 16,22%.
I wonder if many newer people do this but think they can get back to the family they just were in (not knowing about area/lineage ban).

#242 Re: Main Forum » Why you don't reach age 4? (Poll) » 2019-04-29 14:50:29

I almost died as a baby because my mom left me. My aunt took me to nursery. And left me there. Almost starved again (shouted F and tried to open the door). One woman stood in the nursery talking about how she wants to have kids of her own and didn't feed the babies. My aunt comes back and barely manages to save me and a babygirl from dying to starvation.

Don't trust wet nurses man. You may even hit 4 and not have time to feed yourself.
Wasn't it at 3 when you can feed yourself though?

What happened in that life?  What generation were you?  What was the layout of the town like?  I would guess that I was the Eve and that was before the bigserver update.

Oh, that's random. big_smile Yes, Spoon family; I was Kitana (gen 8), who moved a whole graveyard to build a great pen for the sheep of a jungle-desert-swamp town. It was pre-temp change update so it was great, apart from two swarms of mosquitos wandering to desert side. I birthed and raised lots of children, showing them around and teaching my newbie son, who dug me rocks to make the pen with. He also chopped jungle trees for me to get them out of the way. The pen pushed the mosquitos further, and I did my best to block the edge.
Named my kids funny names, like Mega Spoon, My Spoon...
I had a bestie, a blonde lady, who was also a really big help. She ended up killing a ginger gal who tried to convince her child to kill with her.
During my last years, I managed to get a domestic Moufflon and watched it grow. My bestie wanted me to be there for it, and so I passed, leaving my bones to block some more jungle edge from mosquitos.

Then I got born into the same town as Poppy Worth, after some update had killed Spoons. Marveled upon the sheep pen of Kitana Spoon, the pen was fully active and clean. There were some foul mouthed twins that got killed or died, can't remember. Nathan Worth was such a bro and got so many rabbits for us. Again, named kids with fun names, like Mega Worth.
And yeah Terada family was living with Worths, names intertwining. They had a town and connected it to the old Spoon-town during my life. I had lots of lovely children and visited the Terada family's town during my last years. I teased my son about his friend being his boyfriend, heheheh. Mother things.

Good lives. The mosquitos almost killed the old Spoon-town though. Most people migrated towards Teradas, but the jungle road was swarmed with mosquitos, so the travel was often fatal.

I'm not saying that it's thanks to them that you made such good drawings but they gave you an interesting life, right ?

I hated those lives and drew the drawings to make it better. And to stomp on griefers. Sort of "nyah nyah we won" thing, so the stress during that life was balanced out with something positive and powerful.

#245 Re: Main Forum » I helped a new player today » 2019-04-28 09:25:09

Nice!

It was terrible to see a new player in a YouTuber's video, standing in the middle of the town and saying "I'm new. I don't know how to farm" and EVERYBODY ignoring her. There is only so many times they dare to ask, we should really drop things that aren't vital right then and go help them get started. We need more players and teaching a person is an investment which is the most valuable thing we can do, as the knowledge carries on to infinite lives they play.

Do you know why the newbie got killed in their first life?

#246 Re: Main Forum » [Video] (also bug) Frozen Hearts » 2019-04-28 09:18:09

Look at those superior combat skills in action.

Lol.
It was just funny to see the Benny Hills chase of "dramatic fighting" OHOL creates..

Anyways yes some people have very low tolerance of potential griefers as they have seen and experienced a lot of crap.
Can't really blame people who jump to conclusions and killings quick, nobody even got cursed here it seems?

Interesting bug.

#247 Re: Main Forum » most griefing breaks the immersion of the game » 2019-04-28 08:55:26

Good post. And I agree. I will most certainly not recommend the game to new people or stay to play if my lives are spent either getting killed or chasing people who try to end the town.
My fun is simple, I enjoy farming and exploring. People keep thinking that's boring but I enjoy it. I think it's boring and frustrating to chase people with a knife.

My first life I was Terran Pharo, had a nice life in a big town. Got pants, backpack and just farmed and helped around.
Around four people got killed during that life, and a kid was named Supergaystar. Which turned into something else of course.
I learnt how to use buckets on deep wells this life. I knew a lot already from YouTube videos.
