#227 Re: Main Forum » Dark secret: the murder rate is 16% » 2018-06-06 06:37:48

Yesterday I got born in a city. My mum and some other guys stayed around a stone house. Allmost all of them had weapons in their hand.

I wanted to get fed, my mum said no and run with her bow around.
Luckily I found a mum that adopted and raised me.

When I was able to walk I looked around and saw that the really hugh berry farm was in a really bad state. I started watering it and a few other people joined, some longer and some shorter.

I was watering the bushes until I was a grown man, when I heared a scream and a second one and a bit after a third one. I headed over to look what happened. When I arrived the next one got murdered and the Fiesta stopped for a good while. In the thought everything was ok I left the place, but short after even more murder happend and the next Fiesta started. Again several people got killed. I saw a bloody knife on the ground and grabbed it. Especially one women called Abby was murdering out of blood Lust.
Until I could grab it she was gone and I couldn't find her. I went back to the murder place and again murder happend. I saw a women and thought it was Abby she just murdered someone. I ran over and stabbed her. Unfortunately it wasn't Abby. Another guy hunted me and tried to kill me because I just murdered the women. I found a save spot and thought a second how I could solve the problem. There was a unfinished house. I finished the wall and builded a door. On the way gathering the resources I saw new murder Graves. Abby was still around. I was looking for her and the Ressources, but I couldn't see her. She killed a lot of people. A bit after there was a fresh stabbed women and I run to see who did it. It was Abby with a bloody knife in her hands. I stabbed her and she said something like "finally". I made a lock and locked the room. I placed three bows and two knifes in it. I was already old. I asked my sister from my mum that adopted me who was a responsible person. So I gave the person the key to the room, showed him the room and told him to gather and store all weapons in it. After I said my last sentence I died in front of the weapon vault, hoping that everything will be better.

In 60 years I saw so many murder happen and only a hand full people really working. Most of the people were searching the murderer or running away from them.

Dear namless eve mum,

I did it! I was a baby, but i went into warm lands

You starved at the age of 24 infront of a berry bush when I still was a baby. I found a desert tile and waited with banging knees untill I could eat. At the last bar I was able to pick a berry.

You already build a really good farm and oven. I finished your work and gave birth to some babys.

Some of them were weird, other very smart. I think you genes were not the best, but also not the worst.

In my lifetime one of my grand children didnt wanted to life and got a bear out. We manage do make a bow and arrow and then we killed him. I tried to make the rock area next to the berry farm clear of wolfes, unfortunatly I died trying.

It seems that there was another bear. Well...!

#236 Re: Main Forum » Ambulance!!! » 2018-06-02 20:59:38

I saw you die at the berry fields. I took your knife and kept it save. In the woods I found another one. So
I gave a hard working girl a knife at the end of my life. And unfortunatly I starved on the way to the other hard working person. So idk who got the second knife lol

What a great town!

Who build actually the bakery room? Its a great jail!

Oh fuck I just saw in the family tree that the other knife was found by dove rainbow. She killed atleast two of my girls sad((

Yes, I think its horrible to play so close. Everything feels so pressed. I like the 1080 setting. 4k is to big for small objects. But if you could zoom from small to 4k that would be great! If not 1080 still fine.

Only a few hours left to send in your drawing!

#240 Re: Main Forum » Should I get this game? » 2018-06-01 13:04:33

Defenetly you should get it.
There is at the moment a lot of tweaking around with the foundation of the game. One update may be better balanced, the other one not. Balancing is a pretty hard thing in such a game. But Jason is really hard working and when something is totally out of control fast fixes come.

Actually I didn't saw that many bugs, sure there are a few here and there but nothing game breaking. Most of them more funny to watch. Like a wolf that was shot, but didn't died and stayed in the city forever tongue

I don't face to many lags, just when you have a bad connection or a really crappy computer.

The beginning is sure frustrating, because you need to know a lot if you want to survive. But survining does guarantee you to get further in the tech tree.

But if you prepare and watch some videos and look at the site "one tech" you will come in the game easier and the pain won't be that big. And the more you play the more you will know and the more you can do.

It's not a game like angry birds that you just start and play one round and finish. You will have lots of fun with it, if you take the time, the price is more then fair. I guess I didn't played other games that much like ohol.

#241 Re: Bug Discussion » Low specification gaming » 2018-06-01 10:14:11

Idk maybe it's a fps problem. I also had several times after the updates a slower or faster game. I changed in all those fps and v sync files some things

My computer is good, but still I wasn't able to play like this. Maybe it's worth a try?

#242 Re: Main Forum » More players? » 2018-05-31 20:13:39

The last games I teached twice how to smith to three people and as an eve kid I teached the eve how to set up a camp. That were I think to many information at once for her, but when she can keep 50% of it thats still more then none tongue

#243 Re: Main Forum » More players? » 2018-05-31 15:00:52

learning curve is pretty high. And a lot of people cant handle frustration. They watch a video --> Horse riding and beeing a king. And then they also want to do it. But unfortunatly they starve to death as a kid the first 10 times and then they are frustrated and stop playing.

Sure the big changes are also doing their work.

So how can you work against that? Teach and help new players and its more likely that they will stay.

Actually I think it's very good situation to be born into.  Especially as as girl.  What I do is grab a basket with carrot as soon as I can and run off 1 or 2 biomes away.  I chill out near berry bushes for couple of minutes and then go back.  Overpopulation problem is already solved via natural means.  And few people that are still alive are all experienced players.  You can have super cool game from then on.  Sometimes you even take smithing lessons in Eve's camp!

Once in a while I have even one or two more people chilling out around the same bushes.  So you can have a chat and it's not boring while you wait for overpopulation problem to solve itself.

You make a good point.

Yes, this is most of the times the best time in town.

#245 Re: Bug Discussion » wolf glitch » 2018-05-31 08:02:36

I would assume they need to walk x tiles to die. So if there is no space to walk, they can't die?

So I guess removing items from the ground would fix it and the wolf could walk his x tiles and then die.

The game is harder, but you can still provide in one life more then you need. If all followed this path we would only need to worry about griefer and could teach more. If we teach more there is less struggle with unexpirienced players and more time to breath.

But there are baby machines that spit out and rais every baby they get. There are people just eating all day long and there are people role playing 24/7 providing nothing. Maybe all of them not knowing better.

The key thing for a long life is to keep a good balance between food and kids. And that's also a thing to learn.

Yesterday I was the son of an eve. We set up a good camp. Got food production going. Everything looked good. I could provide in my lifetime a Smith and tools. When I came back from the Iron search I found a massiv overpopulated settlement and all were starving so I ran out and collected some food. Only 3 or 4 people managed to survive. One of them was a women unfortunately she only had baby boys. So there were 6-8 boys running around, all providing more then we needed and look there we could all stay just around and talk without worries. I started teaching smithing but unfortunately died of old age in the process.
It is possible with expirienced people that provide more then they need to have a nice, relaxed and warm atmosphere.

So guys get out teach for a while bring the new joined players on a good level and provide more then you need and then we shift back to the state that we want. Sure there is still the griefer problem, but I think it is in a better state then before apocalypse. Back then you could just murder a whole town In 30 seconds. Now there is more time to react to this thread.

Real Griefer are weird people that need to compensate something and we always need to force. Maybe the speed of killing should be even more reduced.

This post lights a fire in my head. You complain about overpopulation and people aren't productive. How do you suppose to get rid of them? To teach them? Ok sure, but you can't as YOU have to worry about your food bar.

...

The speed of killing should be reduced? When the only way to stop those recourse sponges is to kill them? Ok.. that makes no sense.

Idk why it lights a fire in your head. I play since the beginning. I don't have struggle keeping my hunger bar up. While others starve in masses in the town at the same time. I see already before what will happen, so preventive I go out and eat far away from the city. And gather stuff from far away like seeds, cactus fruits for the few that will remain the starving process.

If you stay in the right temp as a elder you got no struggle. So teaching shouldn't be done in an ice biome naked... Maybe that's the trick, you should give it a try!

And sure there are people not caring and consuming more then they provide, but most of them don't know it better. If they got the right information, then they can make the right decisions. But if no one teaches them, they will stop playing, be a burden or the smallest part will advance by their self.

Someone said that killing is to easy. And actually it is easy, but not really common and much better then before, so a slight increase in the cool down time would help since the murder age span without starving gets smaller and there will be more time to react.

Just think about what you do with killing the "Ressource sponges". New Player, spawns in an city, you come and stab him, new player spawns as an eve and starves. Well not all people can handle this good and keep going. A lot will stop playing.

But it seems more that you are one of those steady killers and that seems like the real reason your head is on fire.

This last part is just gonna end up trolling people, there is no where to put the water.

Atm best food is composting mutton pies out.
You get 4 pies at 4 bites a piece.

Cost is 1 water for wheat, 2 for berries and 2 carrots ( 2/5 * 1/7) ~ 3.05 water for 4 mutton pies soil not included
4*4*13= 224 hunger for 3.05 water
or theoretical max of 73.5 hunger per water input, less if you wanted to go tilless..

Also that is the max afiak and people will be wasting as mutton pies are in units of 13 which is higher than a decent proportion of your life's maximum hunger capacity. If using mutton pies I think that getting ~25% efficiency is reasonable to expect of people for 18 hunger per water.

I think it is fair to expect people to be naked as thread is two soil for each one atm..
Half a compost output which is NOT 4 soil raw as at least one always goes to wheat, tillless is 1 for wheat 2 berry bowls with the two carrots.

High end (no "free" growth of berry bushes soil included):

1+2+2/5*1/7 soil for 4 or 3.05 for 4 or .95 soil for 3.05 water..

This gives us a cost of 2* 3.05/.95 + 3 or 9.42 water per thread at the high end.. That would be 4.7 pond hours per thread and that has to go against item decay of 5.5 hours per item IIR or 2.5 for backpacks.

Low end (all berries only cost water):

1+2/5*1/7 soil or 1.05 for 4 or 2.95 soil for 3.05 water.

This gives us a cost of 2 * 3.05/2.95 + 3 or 4.06 water per thread at the low end. That is ~2 pond hours per thread.
IIR Morti did the math out at ~5-10 Sec per hunger naked or 6-12 hunger per minute person. Let us assume 12.
At 12 hunger per minute person and 18 hunger per water (at 25% people will not be able to max that shit out) we have .6~ water per person minute.

This is 60*.6 or 3.6 Water per person hour

This makes each water source:

2/3.6 or .55 People or 1.8 water sources per player... if we do NOT include the cost of soil.
Soil cost of mutton cycle is 1 for water cost of 3.05/.95 or 3.2 to 3.05/2.95 or 1.03 water per cycle.

My brain is starting to turn to mush at this point.. but the numbers look pretty shitty to me..

What is the point of this change, is this making it more fun or is it just making it harder?

Edit: Math is not good enough.. There are water fraction costs for all the tools and everything to work out, I think I am still lowballing with my estimates and am forgetting water costs here and there. Regardless my estimate still seem to be best case, which paint a bleak picture.

Well this is pretty tricky.

Actually you need to assume that for one bowl of berrys you need to plant (3/5/whatever) berry bushes since if only one berry is missing the whole bush is ruined for harvesting a bowl. If you watch berry farms, even hugh farms dont provide that much berry bowl since a lot of people eat from the bushes.

So lets asssume you need to plant 3 berry bushes to get one bowl of berrys. That means for mutton pie and compost you would need 6 berry bushes. Well you wont water all six in the same rythem. So you would need maybe per harvest a total of 4 water to get your two bowls of berrys.
Additonaly you have some spare berrys that gives you some more nutrition maybe like 50 nutrition per harvest.

So you need for the sheep one carrot, you need for compost one carrot. So you got 3 carrots left, but assuming you need a seed for the carrots you can ignore the 3 carrots as additional nutrition. So for the carrots you need 1 water.

For the wheat you need one water.

And for compost you got the berrys, carrots and wheat already above so just 1 water is missing.
For compost almost 50 or 75% of it is needed for seed, berry and wheat production. (Compensate bad watering, making a basket out of wheat, .......)

Then you got the dough also 1 water.

So you would need round about 8 water more or less to make four mutton pies(13x4x4=208), 1-2 extra soil and 40 berry nutriton value)

So you got maybe an output of 31 nutrition per water per harvest/cooking.

Since pies are not eaten well you maybe get down to 25 nutrition per water per harvest/cooking.

So lets say you need 450 nutritions in a whole life for one person. Thats round about 18 water for one person just mutton pie + berrys and some extra soil.

I dont know its late here maybe I got a mistake there? Correct me please! But I think the water regen is way to slow that way.

Sure there will be transportable water now. So you can transport more water in shorter time, so you can take further trips. But I think to get a big city like those now running wont be possible with just 10 ponds you would need way more then that with a desert and lots of rocks near bye. Also like someone else said before, kids will more likely starve since the farm is not in a warm spot.

Maybe tweaking around with the berry bushes and compost could help. So there are 7 berrys and with 5 or more you can make a bowl of berrys. Or you get 5 soil for compost instead of four.

Idk its so late. I will go sleep now and read tomorrow what I wrote here. I hope it makes sence lol

Today I spawned as an eve. I was happy to start from scratch.

Pretty fast after I spawned I gave birth to a sweet little boy. Just a few seconds passed and his bowns fall to the ground. I didnt even got the chance to pick him up. He didnt even got one year old. Quick and dirty log out tongue

Just right after he died I found a decent spot to settle. And set up all that I and my future kids would need to settle. I produced carrots if I had to feed tousend of townsman. I even started to smith. But still I had no baby. Nothing was a problem for me. I had all a eve could dream about - food, almost tools, decent spot.
Just the babys wouldnt come. I got grey and old. And I still hoped that maybe one of our gods would be kind to me and give me my biggest wish. But non of the gods heared me. Only the one and only cactus god, but he gave me what he can give best, his sweet fruits. So I was there with all my stuff, but no kids. I died alone with a broken heart.

I watched the family tree and found Eve Striker died almost at the same time like me. She had another life. But I wished I said the same then her.

I just took a pic of the smith tongue
