after making 2......... 3? i dont even know "how to" guides ive realized that most of the new players arent gonna be using the forums. i sure didnt when i started out. i only found it by googling "how to make rope ohol" and eventually led up to joining the forum. if u have a new baby tell it that there are so many guides on the forums n to check it out. maybe they just dont know that the forums exists and is a helpful place... sometimes

some of u wanna get down n dirty. heres another guide

vIHwRPm.png

the pile of dirt to the right is composted dirt. ( https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2633 heres a post on composting and sheep)

u can get dirt by clicking an empty basket onto it

kFRecqE.png

put that shit down on the ground

in 1 basket of dirt there are 3 bowls of dirt. if u move a bowl of dirt u cant pick it up in a basket anymore

I0HQgIs.png

^3 bowls of dirt

bRE5Z90.png

^2 bowls of dirt

J7DCKGi.png

^1 bowl of dirt

but u can move bowls of dirt from one pile to another (so if u want to pick up a basket of dirt and u have a pile of dirt that contains 2 bowl of dirt and another pile with only 1 bowl of dirt u can move that one bowl of dirt to the one with 2 bowls of dirt to pick it up in a basket)

VuebFDJ.png

^on top left here you see a fully hardened tilled row. to be able to till it to plant things in it ull have to put a bowl of dirt on it

7AcfiNM.png

and then hoe it

sLkuKRU.png <- this is a plantable tilled row

if u hoe a pile with 3 bowls of dirt u get a fully tilled plantable row

same with a pile with 2 bowls of dirt

but u only get a half tilled row with 1 bowl of dirt

QuVAxnT.png

vyOe0ID.png

NFPf0ht.png

Zia7jHP.png

RtskUkX.png

so 1 bowl of dirt = has to be hoed twice

now heres some on wells

sDlHktG.png

if u see a bucket with water dripping out of it like this it means there is water inside and u can click on that bucket with a bowl to get water

Arkse0L.png

u cant use the bucket itself to water crops

if u see the bucket has no water on the floor beneath it that means its empty. pick it up and go to ur nearest deep well

UmrG66i.png

i6jmmsT.png

if u see it has green shit on the bottom right of the well that means there is water in the well. click the bucket on the well to get water

B9pXh8b.png

if u see it has no green shit on the bottom right and there are cobwebs on the top left that means the well is empty. it will refill over time but u can fill the bucket manually using a bowl at a pond or a shallow well

u can only use a bucket on a DEEP WELL. thats the wells pictured here with the bucket dangling from it. the other well is a SHALLOW WELL. u can only get water from a shallow well with a bowl or a water pouch. u cannot get water from a deep well using a bowl or a water pouch

hope this helped!

6OxypTK.png

now get mauled by a wolf while tryna get maple branches for a new hoe

#229 Re: Main Forum » Starting a farm (tilled row) Help! » 2018-07-17 17:39:52

its all the same kind of soil

CYRVQKz.png

^ if it looks like this u can use a skewer to hoe it or a stone hoe or a steel hoe

Lc89zH7.png

^ in 1 basket of dirt there are 3 bowls of dirt. if u move 1 bowl of dirt, leaving 2 bowls of dirt u can still hoe it for a full row (and consume less dirt)

https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2833

if u scroll down to the bottom this is where i got the images

edit: u have to use the skewer/hoe on the dirt pile to turn it into a tilled row. idk where u were struggling but i hope this helps!

The only thing I'll suggest differently is not to waste time on fur -> water pouch. Bowls are better IMO since you normally make camp near swamps.

Let's see how building up on this can happen.

its really only to make the bellows tbh. w/ the bucket all u really need in life is a bucket n a bowl

#231 Re: Main Forum » Triplets griefers » 2018-07-17 02:25:16

might be the same group of triplets in other forums since they all seem so eager to murder. most twins are ok though

You realize that we all get born male and female 50/50 right, that its RNG? Maybe you think the females are less competent because they keep being distracted by babies, just like they do in real life.

in the past few weeks most of my daughters have been new. i think 1/5 was ok at surviving. the rest would starve. my sons on the other hand know what "rope" and "fire bow" is. which is an upgrade. maybe my luck as been different from yours

our pop was dwindling a bit for a big town so when triplets popped out of a passing cousin i did my best to save them. named them alex, aleck, and ali (though i could have named him alexander i suppose- i ran out of al names). they were all screaming "Q" and "F" so i tried leading them to a nursing female cousin, but she didnt feed them and even let one of her own starve. so i fed em a couple of berries and hoped for the best. they were all good kids. ali died a lil early (disconnected i believe) but the other two stuck around and helped out. i adopted another son i named irony (turned to iroh) and he was good help around the farm. really reaffirmed my belief that most smart babies are born male tbh. all my kids were 10/10. would adopt again. itd be cool if adopted babies showed up in the family tree. id like to see my kids up there

(i also named a lil girl who had a mom. i just like naming all the babies, especially since i was a guy and couldnt have any of my own tongue )

This is super simple but really effective- past guides I've tried to read have mostly just been paragraphs of explanations that tend to go over my head, so I've had to figure things out on my own or wait for the rare patient player to teach me. Having an image for example helps a ton.

thanks howling, i also have a hard time understanding big word guides & adhd doesnt really help w/ reading big texts

Jk Howling wrote:

Maybe a more in-depth eve guide could go with it, sort of as a companion? This seems mostly to be a "here's what you need and how to make it" guide to match the tutorial, so something that gives some bonus information about things you'll face outside the tutorial might be helpful in this simple picture-esque style as well.
Maybe answer questions such as....

yeah these things probably need guides too... it just takes forever to make these picture guides cos u have to live out the life and thats already an hour on its own and then u have to put the images in order n write up a whole post which takes a million years

i did a sheep domestication and farm life guide before: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2633 ill get around to adding pictures to it eventually. maybe ill make a compilation of all the guides that are up to date for now... and figure out how the wiki works so i can add this to it....

also pein has a good guide with nice pics

an ultimate super guide for new players

if u spawn as an eve you will immediately need the following to set up a camp:

-3 ropes
-3 maple branch from a maple tree
-2 sharp rocks
-1 curved branch from a lombardy poplar tree

BASIC RECIPES:

milkweed + milkweed = string| string + string = rope
ewHKfec.png
1gfDTir.png

round rock  + big rock = sharp rock

maple branch + sharp rock = long shaft
qhUTxq5.png
ActLn8h.png

long shaft + sharp rock = short shaft
5nTIGXR.png

sharp rock + curved branch = curved shaft
MX2A4YE.png
3mn5io9.png

curved shaft + rope = bow drill bow
1cqlNre.png

bow drill bow + short shaft = fire bow drill
J8kHghp.png

short shaft + rope = tied short shaft
k095OSq.png

tied short shaft + sharp rock = hatchet
IqsCcQB.png

hatchet + any branch = kindling
DyQIBAb.png

sharp rock + sapling = skewer
ShDAGW4.png
JBAXJsr.png

skewer + clay = wet clay nozzle
RctKsyK.png
sZf46ru.png

clay + reed = adobe
b9dZrpB.png
UxHtFhU.png
Fvbz2zm.png

clay + round rock = wet clay bowl
NWVBCtC.png

wet clay bowl + round rock = plate
L2K4mW7.png

adobe + round rock = oven base
FOLSOAU.png
Ot0F8Ut.png

oven base + adobe = oven
1B2nm0L.png
gJk3fsN.png

oven + adobe = furnace
W0bZbzT.png

sharp stone + flint = flint chips
KKkk5UZ.png
NgzqMqB.png

short shaft+ sharp stone = stakes
9iy2QsX.png

stakes + rope = snare
9pVV8Vc.png

flint + long shaft = wooden tongs
TzJT5yp.png

HOW TO MAKE FIRE:

u will need leaves from the following 2 trees:
xDQEhXk.png
GevAhJO.png

use fire drill bow on a long shaft
xFD6jBa.png
XllMF4n.png

use leaf on long shaft with embers
JLtEZJQ.png
lNXqfrA.png

put leaf with embers on the other fuzzy brown leaf
C8e2xKs.png
pbAg038.png

grab kindling and wait for the ember to catch fire and then put the kindling on the ember
16rldLc.png

HOW TO SMITH:

now u have a forge and a fire u can smith

- put another kindling into the forge and set it ablaze by using a long shaft on the fire and then clicking the long shaft on fire on the furnace with kindling in it
16rldLc.png
Ba0EQxj.png

pick up wet pottery with tongs and stick em in the fire
0FboJ8O.png

then use adobe to plug up the furnace to make coal
AxWUXtN.png
S1NMHpi.png

use an empty basket to get the coal out
KAiTnA9.png

put the coal on empty ground
JJa9JDR.png

pick up coal with ur hands and put it in an empty bowl
FUT90EU.png
r8WWbhF.png

now fill the furnace with kindling again and turn it into charcoal again

while thats happening you will need a bellows
i sure hope u fired up that wet clay nozzle
the following will just be in images b/c im getting lazy
9iy2QsX.png
9pVV8Vc.png
KbRtQas.png
Rl51OlU.png
GO8bK14.png
R2mJBdk.png
Tt5mJz2.png

Hdt96qZ.png
2UIDSDI.png
1Vx6pfx.png
FXxQop1.png
eMOSZaK.png
rlfbdAd.png
PPYcTqK.png

great, now ur ready to smith
put the bellows on the forge with charcoal already in it and then light it on fire
grab iron with ur tongs and stick em in the forge
oz9YbEN.png
UADxfva.png

put the iron ball on a flat rock and hit it with a round rock. u generally wanna do 3 at a time to save on kindling
7zkiezc.png
oH67e6r.png

then put the resulting iron in the same bowl with the charcoal and put a plate on top
34XgUhh.png

stick that crucible in the forge with the bellows and charcoal
JlLiPO9.png

and wait for it to cool down
zCfvkan.png

then take off the plate
EjsWtnX.png

and then take out the iron
2ZP1Bnl.png

then fire up the forge again with charcoal and bellows in it and pick up the smelted iron with ur tongs and stick it in the forge and put it on the flat rock again and HIT ******ONE****** with a round rock to make a hammer
K2s4JQA.png

then attach the hammer head with a short shaft to get a hammer
z8QEEyQ.png
vSbtOZm.png

now do the same thing with the other smelted iron but hit it with the SMITING HAMMER this time
9c2hsMw.png
9dnSByw.png

the more u hit it the more it'll change shape from axe > hoe > chisel > adze > froe > file blank > blade blank > shovel > mining pick

make urself an axe, shovel, and hoe. do axe first so u can get more firewood without having to scavenge further and further for branches

combine long shaft with most of these tools to make the full tool
a1MnKRR.png

the froe needs a short staff and the blade blank and file blanks and chisels u can leave to other ppl to deal with, not that important to u, as a new player

HOW TO FARM:

will be mostly in pictures cos its 2 am now n ive been working on this guide for 2 hours oh god help me

nUr73ie.png
hFWPKe2.png
CYRVQKz.png

u can pick up dirt from the pile with a bowl, to either put on dry berry bushes or to just move around. using hoe on 2 dirt gives u a fully tilled row, but how on 1 dirt gives u a half tilled row (so u have to hoe it twice- consuming more hoe power)

Lc89zH7.png
gEZuGPR.png
pqHTMHu.png
6fKk3nq.png

now u have a tilled row grab whatever seed (probably a berry, carrot, or milkweed for a beginner camp) and click it into the tilled, empty row
YSqczjc.png

now to water it grab a bowl n travel 15 minutes to ur nearest pond in jason jail
I12oGNK.png

move egg
REQMtIn.png

bowl on pond

Population management takes an active management and alomost cant be done once you have 2 adult females its kinda a bitch...

but thats the point. if u look back on ur family trees just look at how many died to starvation. thats what happens when u have 9 people in the same plot of land without a sustainable farm. for generations eve to 5 (or whenever u have a stable enough farm going) we should be controlling the population so that the smartest/most productive of the bunch can survive. i actually have a lot more success raising one or two smart girls over a whole bunch cos they can conserve the food we have in the area and they know how to manage the population

its a bit difficult now cos of the influx of new players but thats why im making this post- so that new ppl on the forums can recognize that population needs to be controlled and not every baby can/should be saved

with the spawn changes we need to cull babies more than ever. kill your babies! kill your sisters babies! kill your daughter's babies!

jokes aside, we really need to start thinking about population management again. we're not in the era of lineage bans anymore, we dont need to be saving every baby in hopes that at least one makes it to adulthood. if ur in a camp thats only around gen 4/5 and uve got a shit load of sisters, raise only up to 3 kids. id generally go for 2 girls and 1 boy (in case one of ur daughters is an idiot) but that depends on the gender ratio in ur town. DO NOT RAISE EVERY BABY. ive played as eve a couple times today and had a good town going which immediately exploded into chaos around gen 3/4 because all my daughters and their daughters were keeping every baby. if ur farm is tiny as shit and only has ~2 crops you CANNOT afford to raise every baby

they will be fine, theyll be born into better, richer towns and have a better life. instead of sacrificing your camp for the life of a baby that'll probably only live to 4 b/c theres no food around, learn when to keep and when to abandon your kids

yeah i spawned into a dying town with only one elderly lady in it. it looked to be only a couple generations from eve. is this what jason intended?

If town is good, she will teach you. If not, just find a new town or begin as an Eve.

absolutely. u gotta accept that eve camps cant afford to teach new players. its a lot better to learn in a stable society n if ur eve mom abandons u just kno that its probably for the best for u and her
