I had to move over 20 sets of loom clothes 3.4k from a previously active town to the new settlement that had moved in less than 24 hours.
Is there any reason families should move that kind of distance when there are massive amounts of resources in between. I passed over 8 untapped tarry spots, an engine, a sports car, 9 pipes, and 40 empty tanks. Not to mention over 20 sets of dyed clothes between the old town and the new. The distance was 3.4k, that's almost a 10 min round trip in a truck.
Yea i dont mean vague challenge but just raw challenge. Currently the systems are too complex for anyone to grasp without an extreme amount of external effort. That kind of challenge is bad. But stuff like navigating the badlands, jungles, deserts, and searching for rare resources are fulfilling challenges. Those kind of challenges are what attracted me to the game and why i still get thrill every time i live a life.
And yea spoon. Didnt mean to throw shade on cooks. Just that cooks are the furthest extension away from core resources like water and and iron. Smiths rely on iron and oil, farmers rely on water and iron, cooks rely on water and farmers. Often farmers and cooks are one in the same. Civilizations cannot exist without a steady supply of oil, which makes iron but also costs iron and water. Oil makes water which is the life blood of any civ. Farmers use that water too make food and cooks turn those base foods into more complex foods. Cooking is a comfortable place to be. Its usually close to the nursery, making having kids easy. I mainly mean if you want to do more of the brutal tasks like drilling oil, or scavenging old settlements its a heavy burn on your gene score. Especially with the banding change.
Is the world coming to an end or am i agreeing with dodge and spoonwood at the same time.
Really liked your point abour linear mechanics making things boring. Personally i think we are on the wrong side of that coin but a middle ground would probably be more favorable. Not sure what that would look like. Challenge is the essence of this game and i agree reverting back to no restrictions would make things easier. There has to be something else though that would promote family interactions and stability without making the game easier. Spawns seems to be the main factor. Pushing families kilometers a day killing towns, families, and resources. There has to be something better than this.

Just spent a life trying to get yellow and black dye as a ginger from the brown family. I wrote a note saying i needed sugar cane and cow urine. They had no problem getting me cow urine when i first got there.
Heres where it gets interesting. They had no rubber ball so i had no ability to edit my message. I picked up the same message over an over repeating sugar cane in my families dialect. Very few would pick it up and when they did they did nothing. Literally they understood how to make yellow dye and made it within a few minutes and gave it to me. But cutting down some sugar cane was impossible. I spent ten minutes trying to get sugar cane from them and guess what... their leader stabs me.
This is your trading jason. Man its great. That was such a fulfilling life i wasted just trying to get some resources for yellow and black dye just to have it sit there.
Also such a testament to the wonders of memescore leadership. Lets be real. Most people who climb the memescore ladder dont get things done. They are either cooks or layabout moms. There are a few who are high in gene score that actually do work but they are the minority. Your system is broken and its time to do something about it. Someone could pump 72 tanks of oil in 3 lives but its impossible to get a few resources for dyes in one..
I was also a twin and couldnt curse them.
Ironic how i spelled perfect wrong in the title of this thread.
This game teaches us of selflessness. All that matters is what we do for each other and the future. What we can carry on our shoulders and hopefully pass it on to the next generation of people who can carry that same weight. If we play our cards right we can make that weight a little less than what we had to carry.
Talk to me after his next genocide bender. I dont think enforcing shit on people is good either. But this game is about survival. Kill or be killed and there are a lot of physical and psychological tactics to protect yourself and others. As well as breed chaos and kill families and towns. I dont have a problem with chaos, but when the main server is practically unplayable for hours to days because a group of people wana flex their ability to spam bears im not going to say im a fan.
Totally agree with both points. Griefing has always been about attention seeking. The more attention they get the harder they work to get that attention. That notoriety is attractive to them and people fearing them or getting angry empowers them. In the scheme of things griefers dont really effect things that much. Most of their efforts to grief can be recovered pretty quickly once they're gone. Even if the family dies, another will replace them shortly. If a griefer is in town maybe just leave and come back. They will likely kill everyone and get bored and move on.
Those were rhetorical questions, but i guess you are too dense to realise that. You clearly dont know what you're talking about and are just trying to cause problems for your own gratification. If thats what makes you happy, i guess thats something, but it wont get you far in life. Good luck.

This thread alone and the fact you dont see a problem with it is 10x more base than anything spoonwood has ever posted.
Seriously think about what lead you to post this thread and if this is truly the person you want to be in life.
I know this is the 500th post about how biome restrictions are a bad but lets think about it.
When they were first introduced all the families grouped up into the same village which reduced diversity.
Homeland was added to keep families from doing that.
This spread families out and often the places they settled were not rich enough with specialty biomes to stabilize the family. (Having to travel hundreds of tiles to get anything makes a weak town)
Thus we get banding. Making it impossible for a family to settle outside of their biome region. I personally dont mind banding that much but it does cause a couple issues in my opinion.
First, it makes the map pretty boring and relatively monotonous. It removes a lot of diversity and it takes all skill out of finding a "good spot". That being said most eves didnt search for good locations before settling before the change anyway.
Second, it makes things way too easy with regards to oil. Oil is a no brainer now and its easy to pump out tons of it with little effort.
What im seeing is the locust level oil production is driving gingers further and further west while most of the remaining families can remain static. Im seeing gingers 2-5k west of the other families pretty consistently. It also makes it unstable for ginger eves to resettle old towns in areas where tarry spots are tapped.
What im seeing from biome restrictions as a whole and the bandaids that have been added is: further reduction in diversity, further spread of families, and less overall stability for ginger towns and families. I also see ginger towns get stripped of all their resources as soon as they die out.
Currently late game towns cannot exist without a strong ginger family and basically the entire stability of the server rests on their shoulders.
Is this good? Personally i think it was better when families had access to everything and their stability rested exclusively on their shoulders. The whole biome restriction thing is just a time suck and puts everything behind gates. It would be nice to spawn into a family and be able to really make a difference for them without the hoop jumping. Or being required to /die until your ginger so the server doesnt run out of oil.
I dont see much trading. Especially towards gingers. I spawned into the same ginger town a couple times over the course of 24 hours and no new palm oil or sulfur was obtained in that time. Yet over 30 tanks of oil had cycled to the other fams. Often due to looting after the families had died.
The only reason we see any form of stability with these systems is due to phex users. Another bandaid.
This problem is cut too deep to be solved with bandaids. We need stitches or possibly surgery to fix this issue. What was the issue again that promoted biome restrictions in the first place?

Its better to take a hard look at yourself before you take a hard look at others. Gogo I don't know where you get off doing something like this. This shows a lot more about you and your character than it does about spoon's. If i were you i would think about why you thought this was an appropriate post and what your motivations were behind it.
Ignore rookwood. I agree repeat sids are annoying, but only because of bone management. Which could be easily remedied if sid bones were removed.
You bring up a good point pocky. Ive been thinking about this a lot. We have a in game function to /die yet we have a bunch of mechanics that try to discourage its use/abuse. With tool slots gone its no wonder people are abusing /die again. Some people actually want to make a difference in this game and with certain tasks locked behind race restrictions its no wonder people would /die in order to do what they want in the game.
Curse my baby is a stupid mechanic used by petty people. There is literally no reason to curse someone for it. Even runner babies are typically trying to get out of the way before they /die so the mother doesnt have to deal with the bones. If you chase a runner baby you're probably too dumb to realize the person is trying to do you a favor, and if you curse them.. you have a special place in donkey town, because thats where you belong.

Takes at least one person who has cursed you playing in each homeland. Radius isnt giant last time i checked so as long as there are mothers who havent cursed you in fertile lands outside of the curse radius you can spawn normally. Either you were cursed by some regulars who play the same time period as you or you were cursed by far more people than you realized.
On the bright side donkey town is a great place to practice eve runs. You also dont lose gene score as eve or in donkey town at all so you could always step on wolves until you spawn normally. Chances are pretty good youll sneak in somewhere.

Waste of shovels and waste of stone. I see them as well. Destroy them whenever i see them. Nothing like rolling into the forge and seeing no flat rocks while there is a graveyard with 20+ thirty tiles away. Clearly a noob that has nothing better to do and thinks shovels drop from the sky.
Had plenty of runner babies. Never bothered me. As long as they arnt teasing or running off to die in the forge i dont care. Consider it a courtesy that they leave and dont force me to deal with their bones. Runners dont matter anymore with tool slots gone. Unless you are selfishly obsessed with being leader or eve they do no harm. Plus cursing someone just for trying to get back to a family or town is way more toxic than running out of the way of traffic to /die. Only idiot mothers chase their babies and only snowflakes care.
But i do love a good few /dies while im making an engine to the point it ruins my run on the newcomen and completely wastes a bucket of water and charcoal...
I agree with destiny that memescore or some type of reward system should reflect in respawn choice instead of leadership, eveing, etc. Some people hate eveing but love being leader. Some hate being leader and love being eve. Some hate both. It would be nice to have a reward system that respects player preferences instead of just hoop jumping to avoid punishment, or just hoop jumping for the sake of it.
