I guess this is for indication you have no more milk. I was thinking about different, more immersive solution: hugs!
1. Picked kid is not breastfed. You need to click him again for animation, sucking sound and hunger filling. Breastfed kid will never decrease hunger, while woman may lose one hunger bar at start, and later at normal rate, just like it us. This solution will make it clear you can't breastfeed. It will also tweak lonely Eve,  so she is not afraid to put down a kid for a while.
2. You can't run during breastfeeding. It is to balance 2-click advantage. Also, give this magic moment attention it deserves.
3. Hugs should be also availabe for others. It will increase warmth. Imagine two lonely kids waiting by coals for mum. They would hug each other to gain warmth and hope.
4. In case sexual reproduction will be introduced (I think it should), hug may be an entrance for it.

No. At least he did not fool with anyone. I followed sister requesting 'give it back'. Anything would be better than "what?", even Fuck you. I planned to throw this bow and arrow to her feet again to show I am not griefer. But she did nit want to reason with me. Neither mother.

George at least was capable smith. I see,  the lineage survived surprisingly long. I guess,  also because of his work smile

I don't see them. I'm releasing with rightclick and cannot pick up baby. Maybe make the all more visible? Or disappearing after drop off. Oh dear, you just lost it, next time find the container smile

Prevent coordinated griefing to defend hermits? Lets piss off villagers smile I've never saw griefing from the outside on hermit (maybe I didn't play enough?). It mostly happens in towns. Maybe because, it is very unusual to meet hermit camp. Grief on hermit can be performed almost only by hermit's kids. But what is the chance, kids will coordinate this way? Because most players do not like griefing, they will usually reveal griefing conspiracy to elders and teamwork to kill griefer.

Some of us requested for semi HP feature. This way, weapon will be superior to average tools. But still, a mob should be able to take down a single weapon-wielder. So, it will be still able to quick kill a person inside a village, but he will meet a rage of entire village. Making all tools weapons will not prohibit murderers. It will change them to be like IRL: commited in sneaky way, far from witnesses. It will be more challenge and fun, also for murderers, pretending this is some sort of Splinter Cell smile

Also, non lethal tool with semi HP feature will be able to defend ownership and give a small penalty. Use stomper on somebody, who steals all your bowls. It should not be lethal, it should hurt smile

jasonrohrer wrote:

I do want you to need to be prepared

We are. But griefers start at hiding prepared weapons. You want us to establish police? Why, when they cannot make any police investigation. IRL police usually arrives at crime scene long after cirime was commited. Without post-crime investigation, police is pointless. Investigation may be possible in this game. With dogs smile

Also, people are requesting to be able to carry weapon by belt just for quick defense. We would be prepared. And most funny, you would meet often mexican stand offs, with deaths of all included smile

jasonrohrer wrote:

I don't want you to remain defenseles

Early settlement is defensless. Every weapon crafting is sabotaged by griefer. You can not do anything. So, your "all tools a weapon" refusal is affecting more the hermit, rather than city.

jasonrohrer wrote:

But neither of those concessions solves the murder problem for you.

Throw this concessions away. This is deux ex machina. This gods intervention is putting narratives over interactivness. Give us dogs, who can track the murderer from the killed body. You will see police role very, very soon smile

jasonrohrer wrote:

Though "medicine," in the current fiction of a stab wound or an arrow through the chest, is kind of a stretch.

WARNING, DRASTIC CONTENT
Stab survivors. Even a sword to the eye.
Boy survives arrow in the eye
opossum survived both head and chest wounds from arrows
And finally. Not one, but two arrows to the chest. Not from bow, from crossbow. Survives.

Yet, there are a drastic events of death from less drastic-looking wounds. Like a Belarusan man, bitten in the leg vine by beaver. In such a wound you loose counscioussness in a minute. Impossible to survive, unless a wound would occur on the surgery table already. But it should not prevent us from treating wounds. Maybe randomize damage?

No medicine is the real stretch. We don't want to save every life. We just need a chance smile And, a failed curing attempt is more drama, then just death out of waiting.

jasonhorher wrote:

Mechanically, what would be happening here is that someone is getting "marked for death" by someone else, and then any other person is given the power to unmark them.

How? Medicine requires tools, and wounds must be treated quickly. If a murderer is attempting to heal another murder, they both get killed by villagers. Just make medicine multistep, like you have to unbox bandage to treat bleeding. And unboxed bandage, once released, will change to dirty bandage, giving infection. If you make crafting infection medicine hard and multistep, it will be impossible to do outside of village.

This is all to take care of griefer in one life. No karma included. But still, I wait for Cain's mark smile

Even better if we could use all those stones and sticks only to kill the killer.

Definitely not.  Or you have to provide some other defence against griefing for early camps.  For example I had a griefer in 2nd gen camp (practically 1st - Eve just found the place, I've setup everything else there).  Girefer just picked up rabbit bones and littered all over the place making any work difficult - it's just two clicks per tile, way more to cleanup, as you have to find empty distant one. Hard to eat, as you have no free tile to put down thing you are holding.  No bow yet and she first stole all milkweed I've planted

Man, you just described why we need more tools to act as weapons. You tried to make weapon on your own? Griefer prevented you from it. If a few farmers agreed and him a few times, it would be a great warning.

Of course, untill you are the worshipper of ideology: I have weapon good, others bad smile

#233 Re: Main Forum » If your a new player, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE FORUMS. » 2018-06-13 20:03:37

YAHG and jason, there are many points your are missing.

1. Karma system does not have to be server ban. It can be Cain's mark after reborn. The punishment would be up to players. Personally, if we had it, I would build a pen for bear. And throw there some marked kids. Just for fun.
2. Automatic karma system, based on killing is bad. Why punish the police? What about those filthy little thieves? Or lassos makers? Karma must base on curse from other players. Maybe put red rose on grave to curse, blue to bless? The most blessed person would be reborn with aureola smile
3. What if players curse actually a good person? Very good drama!

I've also made quite a comprehensive suggestion how to use griefing for our advantage... I mean fun smile

#234 Re: Main Forum » Some Ideas on How to Reduce Clutter » 2018-06-13 19:48:45

Aurora, how would you stock seeds in thrash pit? Thrash pit is to clean it up, but you can't store it for further use!

There is a lot of comments that griefer can reborn into the same town quickly, which is not true anymore.

Unless this is big city, like founded by West family, which contains 3 different lineages smile

sc0rp wrote:

I don't think that Jason wanted to prevent interaction between towns.  The intention was to prevent Eves simply going to nearby town.

Jason changed from artist making heart taking games to something more. He is also a ruler of little community. He wants this community to play according to his intentions. But there is still a learn Frederic Bastiat gave us about 150 years ago: what you can see, and what you can't.

For example: baby ban prevented baby suicides. But players have enough of being Eve. After death in big city, like me, we leave game for this day. Also, some players like breezeknight are not playing and monitor the forum. They also have enough of eveeing. They look forward to rejoin, when civilization advancement will be enabled further.

There is difference between living and not-living. If you move a lizard, it will go back to its perfect spot. Completely different than stone smile So, when Jason is applying different mechanics so players do according to his will, we the players, are finding workaround to do what pleases us, not him. He just meets the fate of every dictator violating the basic right, the freedom. Many players left the game and many are complaining about its current shape, including me.

Edge of swamp, desert and green biom, very nice location for very early settlement. There was pond with goose, which I estimated will go dry very fast. So I made a bow and arrow to shot goose not to waste it. Obviously my little sister did not like it, so she hid my arrow behind the tree while I was looking for skewer to roast it. I did not like it. After asking where did she hid it, she answered "what?".

Enough. I found this arrow and shot my stupid little sister. It was very satisfactory smile She of course ran to our mother screeming I am the griefer and so on. I droped the bow and arrow next to mother to show her I am not enemy to her and tried to reason. She did not listen, tried to kill me instead. We were running all around the camp. During running, I was collecting carrot and feeding my little brother. In the end, mother threw bow and abandoned camp. You can see, how angry she was with her last words.

Don't worry mama. I had plenty of kids, raised them and told story of you and my sister. They listened, laughed and worked hard. I even used this weapon to shoot wolf who approached our little village.

Everything would be great if not George, my son, who picked the last carrot pile defined for seeding. Famine took many of us, including me, just before the carrot grow up. I hope, they will survive.

I am OK with killers. What turns me on are griefers destroying villages without weapons. Put all logs into fire at once, turn all milkweed farm into ropes, feed babies with pies. What else we need? Karma system

#240 Re: Main Forum » Is food too plentiful now? » 2018-06-13 06:31:38

Just give more domesticated animals which require food to prevent their starvation. Dogs, cows, geese. You wil see how people abandon their kids to keep cows during famine wink

Ownership is a social construct and is possible only, when it can be quickly defended. People, including me, told you how to allow for ownership
1. Make most tools a weapon. You can attack somebody stealing reaources with hoe, shovel. Than they wilk think twice about it.
2. Give us guardian NPC: dogs. After command "Rex guard" they would protect 9 tiles in close proximity from entrance of all except owner. Command used in house would make them guard all inferior and attack all, which were not inside while command was given.

When my father built a house, he and neighbours made electrical conection on their own. Because of law, power plant had to buy it out. On one beautiful day two sad gentelmen arrived to cuyt us off electricity box, untill power plant will take over electrical infrastructure. My father used shovel in the negotiatons. They agreed very quickly to run for their lives smile

#243 Re: Main Forum » Why make potatoes » 2018-06-13 06:03:47

How to fix plentiful water:
1. Give people new amazing stuff, like entering mines, seas for ships, long distance communication (horns, pigeons, letters), more war options, predators attached to villages, sexual reproduction, karma system. It will drain people from agticulture.
2. Nerf wells

Simple, make game more fun, or more tedious. Wanna bet what will happen?

#244 Re: Main Forum » Why make potatoes » 2018-06-12 12:58:49

Shoveling potatoes seems to not use it up. There is an transition to shovel with potato on crafting recipes without -1 modifier

#245 Re: Main Forum » Funny as fuck, new meta » 2018-06-12 10:49:00

Only because odd balance. I mean, it's impossible, a single berry filling 6 hunger, when baked potato only 7 smile

#246 Re: Main Forum » Jason! I'll tell you the only way to stop the murder! » 2018-06-12 10:39:59

More funny is, you can't kill a snake with shaft, you need a knife. IRL almost the opposite, as an stabbing attemp on snake would result with bite.

But I guess, blunt on snake will never be introduced, only for gameplay reasons

#247 Re: Main Forum » Jason! I'll tell you the only way to stop the murder! » 2018-06-12 06:46:11

Slowing down murderer, breaking weapons, weapons stucked in the victim, simultaneous deaths... They are all fake solutions. IRL we have serious consequences, in game there is only death, not a big deal. Therefore, countering griefers must base on punishment even aftet death. Karma system

#248 Re: Main Forum » Battle of Three Families - Holding the peace. » 2018-06-12 06:28:54

It's nice to see, that 3 hours ban rule is overpassed. Give us real karma system, Jason smile

#249 Re: Main Forum » Rabbit bones are OP - can we nerf them a bit » 2018-06-11 18:00:35

sc0rp, you just proposed a new way of griefing: steal all bones, all tinder and leaves, because they are limited.

Better would be decrease lifespan of such items. If you need it, you still can have as many, as you want. But use it quickly, before decay
