What? I could have sworn I saw the boots family in wondible's viewer. Im like 95% sure.. I think I even have a picture
Is there some other factor that would make the "rich get richer" in terms of babies? If you have 90% of the mothers this generation, why would you have 92% of the mothers next generation?
I mean there's always the rng aspect of it.
If those 9/10 babies that went to the rich family were all male, it wouldn't matter. If that 1 that goes to the other family is female they're the winner.
While I haven't seen instances in the rift, I've seen that situation happen before.. and while its probably not even the prime suspect, it might be contributing a bit. I mean you HAVE to be unlucky sometimes in rng.
That takes me back. That’s one of the more fun lives I’ve had in my time playing this game. Never thought I’d see it actually posted here. If I remember correctly I was one of founders of that gang. It exclusively consisted of boys wearing one snake boot. I remember we upgraded our rides as our last activity when all the women died. So many carts were upgraded that day.
If I remember correctly I think I’m the guy in the seal skin. Could be wrong though, it’s so long ago now.
yeah I was the old man so I only got to see that part really hahaha. I am almost 100% sure it was that same life because that family had no women when I died.
Angry booters for life!

I think there's something to that oil idea..
If 4 existed 20 or 30 tiles from the tarr monument in every direction N,S,E,W I think you could see a lot of interesting things happen.
Maybe one greedy family would try to own all 4 but face the entire world.. Or 4 families could each own one and try to snag them from eachother, while also dealing with the families that that don't own one (could even be done positively with ally families that work out some agreement)
I think the only drastic change that would need to be made is to make the oil infinite, or at least last a long while. The engines would need to break down like the pumps.. i mean they are "crude engines" after all.
Let people say what they want to say.
I said it once, but some people here are along for the ride. The ups and downs. Ive gotten my 20 bucks worth at least eightfold.
My only regret is not being here from the very beginning and only experiencing half of this journey so far.
It would only be frustrating at first because you remember how before wild foods could have saved you, but after a certain point it would be part of the game that you cant count on wild foods eternally and they regrow each time slower (or disappear completely).
The apocalypse is the way players have to end the arc, it just needs to get fixed with having enough nosaj, and solving issues with over the rift teleporting endstones and blocking objects.
Listen I agree that I could be wrong on this, but my gut tells me it would be far better if the apocalypse/end condition was reworked rather than the whole food system.
Destiny mentioned the pies, and I think if you eliminate those foods its just going to put stress on the pies, and require those to be reworked too.
I think the nosaj had its time and place, but i think THAT is the culprit here and not the food issue. If the nosaj apocalypse was possible during that rift would we even be talking about the food? Or would it have been triggered eventually, and have had created some eventful moments?
I think those discorders would have done that before their brilliant idea of hoarding everything and killing all their kids.
It made you care enough to write this, albeit out of anger.
Low stakes low rewards, high stakes high rewards.
What im getting at is that it should be a FREAKIN ACCOMPLISHMENT to do certain things with a community game. I still can't believe certain things happen the way they do sometimes..
If you went and built the plane on one of the less populated servers, would it still have an effect on you at all? Or would it be more like "whoopie.. that was kinda underwhelming". Im not knocking anyone who uses a low pop or private server to learn, but im sure they'll back me up on the underwhelming part. From what I experienced there, I would say that was the issue.
In terms of people doing it..
Ive found that there are basically three categories of people when it comes to that.
The first group won't have anything to do with the act itself unless extremely pressured or provoked. They can't fathom just killing or harming without a reason. I think I fall I to this category because the worst I've really done is look the other way once or twice for various reasons. I have enough battles trying to be the chaotic neutral.
The second group and by far most common group is someone who can be swayed or only does it themselves on occasion. Most of the people who do something ridiculous to you one life might be your favorite cousin in a life the next day. They do it because it CAN be a fun spicy experience to be the bad guy, but understand that they shouldn't , or dont always want to be the bad guy.
Third group are just sadists and thrive off reaction and persuasion. If there wasn't killing they would just follow you around and say the n word all day.

You disagree that nerfing wild foods would lead to collapse of civilisations eventually?
Or you disagree about nerfing wild foods and want to find another way?
What would that better way be?
Kinda both.
From the data that he pulled about all the foods eaten during the rift, berries and cactus fruit were high on the list.. but they weren't #1 and #2. People still ate those baked foods just as much. If you cut those wild foods it would just cause more people to bake to make up for it. I don't think it would bring a powerful enough result and just frustrate people.
I still think him letting it up to us to end it somehow might be a better option.
Dodge i disagree about the wild foods, because I think there's still a better way.
I like Ryan's base idea because it does let people choose to either keep it going, or let us end it.
The conflict around the "totems" could be a way more interesting thing than something that just happens the same way every time.
man looking back on these got me all nostalgic..

when me and my sis both ended up getting the sheep at the same time

Being given new beautiful clothes right at the beginning of the clothing update. It made everyone crowd me in amazement.. this dress was a big deal at first lol

My first gang! we were angry and we all wore one boot

this one is still one of my favorites
Not enough walruses
heres part of the summer 2019 catalog
The Full Green

Not only can you blend in, and scare your family next to the local berry patch, but you can also role play as a green bean
The Sharp Boy

While many confuse this look as a griefer who thought they were mini swords, Its actually a misunderstood artsy social experiment piece. It tries to make the statement "Hey... all these knives haven't gotten me stabbed yet?.."
The Jord

represent your home country of the Netherlands in style and tradition, with your flag's colors and klompens
But now... The most anticipated and sought outfit of the year. Considered a top favorite, and must have by the masses this year..
The Box

You are box
Can i vote "neighbor" instead of "ally"?

Thank ya. The engine has always escaped me because I've never really gotten the chance to see the method to the madness. Its easier to see it being done rather than just using onetech and struggling hard.
Learning how to build the loom was probably a great starting point for me, before the engine, because I know how to make some of the newcomen machines now at least.
And knowing the oil game helps too!
So I think ideally there should be old land and new land. A balance of permanence with promise.
Humans have had to migrate from established civilizations and settle new territory all over the past. The conquest of the west coast of the USA is a great example. We will probably keep continuing the tradition the future (were coming for you mars!)
I think the winning prize of making it that long shouldn't just be "well heres a reset" but rather "well heres an opportunity"
So once the reset conditions are tweaked, I think we need that opportunity to expand.
A way to escape our rift, even if it was just to another rift of the same size.
Eves still would spawn at the center, but there would be new opportunities for pioneering and starting a new settlement in new land. Or more resources for a major city to keep afloat.
Once we get a more stable reset condition, I think this will be settled somehow.
I think an even easier solution is to keep the rift, keep the spawning in the center, but flood one side of the rift at a 3000 or 4000 year point. That side fills with water while the others remain dry.
When that side is flooded, a ferry can be made to cross it. The other side is another same sized rift.
Pretty surprising. It sounds like I play about as much as you and, let alone any other times, I've been killed deja vu style about 5 times: standing to the right of the fire, run up and to the right out of town, someone steps out from behind a tree with bow and arrow and shoots me then runs off with no words exchanged.
I'm starting to just ignore when the red exclamation marks pop up on the screen, running over to see what's happening is just exposing yourself to getting stabbed. There used to be more of a trial, but now it just seems people are stabbing for the hell of it, with new people running onto the screen every few seconds with weapon drawn and stabbing whoever is holding a weapon or just nearby.. creating a stabbing chain.
There has been death around me, I'm just either quick or lucky.. maybe a combo of both.
Well I was killed by an eve with a bow (right before that stabbing with the knife) and it made me like vow to be more observant in a village.
It also made me realize positioning is a big factor. You're wayyyy less likely to be killed if your running around constantly, with errands like iron or oil. Jobs like baking or smithing are more likely to be victims because they are stationary. I tend to do any job that needs to be done, but when I'm doing the stationary jobs, I try to be hypervigilant and armed.
I've also saved a lot of people with the medical aprons and have been saved myself. I try to always pass them down to someone who is probably going to stay in the village.
What about if when we made it 4000 years, a random side of the rift gets a small opening, but its to another 707x707 rift?
Another 4000 years and another side opens up, and it keeps continuing on that cycle.
The eves still would spawn at the center, but there would be new opportunities for pioneering and starting a new settlement in new land.
There would always be old land and new land. A place of history, and a place of opportunity.
i seen a baby holding a baby
i was like wtf, before i tap on screenshot, the lady have grown, had clothes and was holding a baby
Lol it's definitely a sight to walk into a village and see a baby spew out a whole sentence while crying and then turn instantly 30 right infront of you.
Made me laugh very hard.
I just wish they were older and turned all the way into an old man.
But yeah in an ideal world it wouldn't happen. Ive only seen it once so its not something super common.
got 36 more
took 18 to my fortress
dropped 3 for an eve
left 15 there

Grim_Arbiter wrote:Wait I thought the rift was 707x707 tiles?
Yeah, it's 707 tiles wide and tall, so 354 tiles from the center to edge. I looked at the github and the rift size is denoted with the radius there so I used that number. Sorry for the confusion, I should have been more clear.
Oh no it's saul goodman, I just wanted to make sure.
I agree that setting it at 1000 by 1000 might be the most optimal step foward from here.
The largest rift radius was 1000, but we only had that for a few hours. I think if it was increased from the current 354 tiles to 1500 (a drastic increase), just for one arc, we'd get a significantly different gameplay experience, but one that would be more enjoyable to most players. We'd still need to wall off our cities and establish rules, but it would no longer be a non-stop murderfest.
Wait I thought the rift was 707x707 tiles?
As for being out of iron, does that mean you are out of oil as well?
No there's still a few terry spots left..
There was just one of the most massive coordinated efforts that has ever happened in this game.
Its objective was to steal all the iron and resources from towns and hoard it while at the same time killing all the children they got.
And it STILL wasn't enough to bring down everyone.
Most of the stuff they took made it back out into the population but they did stifle the oil production process.

Apocalypse town..
Still my favorite life.
It was actually very similar to our current situation. The apocalypse cities were a huge expanse and the resources around it ended up getting pretty damn drained as well. You also had families working together and going to war with eachother. There wasn't a war sword yet, and that life still had a very heavy amount of killing.
That story wouldn't have been my favorite one if there wasn't any stakes and it was a worry free life.
While I do have very fond memories of certain lives that didn't have any chaos, they will never grip me like that life did. I didn't know what was around each corner, or who I even wanted to be.. and really was flying by the seat of my pants. It was a rush and the lives now are getting close to what that felt like.
There should be a balance of those two types of lives, and I have had a worry free life or two in this new rift map, its just not MOST of the time like it was before.
