Still didn't manage to make this cart - died at 60 while making saw.

This was someone else. The Plan was to make a shovel tongue

It is true that the atmosphäre shifted from warming to hurry hurry.
The game is harder, but you can still provide in one life more then you need. If all followed this path we would only need to worry about griefer and could teach more. If we teach more there is less struggle with unexpirienced players and more time to breath.

But there are baby machines that spit out and rais every baby they get. There are people just eating all day long and there are people role playing 24/7 providing nothing. Maybe all of them not knowing better.

The key thing for a long life is to keep a good balance between food and kids. And that's also a thing to learn.

Yesterday I was the son of an eve. We set up a good camp. Got food production going. Everything looked good. I could provide in my lifetime a Smith and tools. When I came back from the Iron search I found a massiv overpopulated settlement and all were starving so I ran out and collected some food. Only 3 or 4 people managed to survive. One of them was a women unfortunately she only had baby boys. So there were 6-8 boys running around, all providing more then we needed and look there we could all stay just around and talk without worries. I started teaching smithing but unfortunately died of old age in the process.
It is possible with expirienced people that provide more then they need to have a nice, relaxed and warm atmosphere.

So guys get out teach for a while bring the new joined players on a good level and provide more then you need and then we shift back to the state that we want. Sure there is still the griefer problem, but I think it is in a better state then before apocalypse. Back then you could just murder a whole town In 30 seconds. Now there is more time to react to this thread.

Real Griefer are weird people that need to compensate something and we always need to force. Maybe the speed of killing should be even more reduced.

#253 Re: Main Forum » Jason, did you remove some stuff? » 2018-05-29 22:40:38

Yes they are, maybe someone ate theme all? tongue

#254 Re: Main Forum » New Players Are Getting Left Behind » 2018-05-29 07:28:44

Teaching is important. Unfortunately I didn't took much time for it. Since I am always in the struggle between getting the critical stuff running or not to collapse

The thing is like someone else said before. If we  just do and do we will never come out of this state. We won't be happy and the new joined people won't be happy.

Just run around and tell where you are, what you do and ask the people if they like to learn and help you. If you spreaded the news just return to work.

At this point you should look that you got enough food around your workspace since often newer players underestimate how long a way can be to get some food.

Now the mums and the other townspeople are asked. You hear that someone is searching for apprentice? Tell the kids you rais about it! Tell them where and what they can learn.

In small eve settlements. You should teach the basics (temperature, eat earlie, don't eat over your hunger bar, what and how you can eat it, setting up the basics) and give some really simple tasks. Give your kid a basket full of food and tell them to carry it and refill it with them along their way.

I guess that's the only way. Probably they will still die. But maybe they live a bit longer then usual and the next time maybe a few years longer. And with more time and self sustain meint it will be easier to teach them more.

------------------------------------------

Important things to teach:

1: harvesting domestic wheat
If you harvest wheat make sure to replant (soil, seeds and water) a new wheat plot. Use the straw to make one compost pile if there is no one composting.
Always leave one wheat plot for seeds. If there is only one left expand the wheat farm.

2: if a tool breaks tell the Smith. No Smith? Diy!

3: plant 6-12 milkweed in your life.

4: never walk with empty hands. You go to the berry bush? Grab a Branche/stonea back to the settlement.

5. Always clean. Don't forget the story of die!

Today we start the Drawing Contest!
Untill the following saturday 23:59 UTC you got time to send in the drawings at "OHOL-DrawingContest@web.de".
On sunday the voting will start. The winning lama gets a special place in this thread!

Our first thing to draw will be a "lama".

Send the pictures and drawing wishes at "OHOL-DrawingContest@web.de"

#259 Re: Main Forum » Badland city » 2018-05-28 15:19:48

I was there twice today.

First time my mum and dad told me that they are composting. So I joined them and ended alone composting. I did so much compost, but left was nothing when I died. Everyone was happy about the compost.
City was running great. I left a big wheat farm and some unfinished compost. The berry farm got fixed, all looked good.

Later the day I was spawned there again. All sheepes were killed. My big wheat farm was not much left, only some wheat cutted on the ground. And only some unfinished compost, maybe the one i left. Luckly I made an emeregency wheat plant close so I headed over and got the wheat farm big again.

I tried really hard to get the compost running. Unfortunatly everyone just took the stuff and ran away. I got new stuff and someone else came along and grabbed all the stuff. In this life I just got stuff and someone else took it and I couldnt finish my work...  I only did smithing in the beginning of my life that took almost 1/4 of my life just because everything was missing and everyone was blocking me. Never took so long to make four tools... big_smile

I stabbed then one women out of anger because she took the bowl of berrys with carrots right after i put the carrot in. I couldnt belife it.

Normally I just kill murderer, but this time I got out of controle.

At the city was a "dog". He stayed there forever. And also close to it like 30 ice holes.

#260 Re: Main Forum » "Everything runs out" - maybe it actually should » 2018-05-23 16:44:05

The higher the tech goes the higher your water costs will be. So if you want to make that fast and nice car you need to have a gas powered automated whatever well that gives you 10x more water then a pond.
Or you need 100 normal wells.

And since all the stuff needs maintenance you just can't build 100 of this gas powered automated whatever well.
If you do so you need also 50 mining machines and then you need maybe 20 gas rigs. But all needs steady maintenance.

And if you go for the 100 wells, have fun gathering all the stones and maintaining those 100 wells to make one car.

You will be limited by time, manpower, resources and tech. So you can't exploit it.

#261 Re: Main Forum » "Everything runs out" - maybe it actually should » 2018-05-22 11:36:27

I think this is more a ground laying decision, then some tweaking around.

Jason said "My main goal here is to eliminate the "be careful or ruin stuff forever" feeling.  That feeling is separate from whether stuff runs out or not."

And

"I agree that a lot of the gameplay focuses on "not doing something," which is not very interesting.  I never thought of it that way, but "don't pick the non-fruiting milkweed, don't drain the pond, don't drain the well, don't snare the non-family rabbit, don't forget to water the languishing bush" do kind of create a walking on eggshells feeling."

I don't think the solution to this should be to make things regenerate by their own like wells.

I think the right approach should look like this:

The higher the tech, the harder to maintain.
You got X stages of maintenance.

What does it mean? If you take the water mechanic for example.

You got first the pond, no building cost, no maintainance, less output.

Second you got the well, you got small building cost, (should have) some small maintenance, slightly better output.

Maintenance:
First stage:
After X uses the well decays and the output reduces to the amount a pond would give. You can repair it with X stones.

Second stage:
If you wait even longer it collapse and you can gather a few stones from it.

Then you got the deep well, slightly higher building cost, slightly higher maintenance and slightly higher output.

Maintenance:
First stage:
Gets reduced to a well you need a few stones and wood to repair it.

Second stage: output like a pond. You can only repair it to a well and need a new fence kit.

Third stage:
Collapse, you can gather a few stones from it.

Then you have maybe a pump station next.
The pump station is made out of different materials then a well, so it cant downgrade to a well all of the sudden. The pump station would be the first stage again(like the well with 1 maintain step and one break step) and then you have maybe a deep pump station(like the deep well with 2 maintenance steps and one break step).

So each higher tech should increase the building and maintenance cost for a automated water pump you need a lot resources to maintain, but you also get a lot from it.

Since the cost increase for higher tech, you need to get more and more resources for example more iron. With low tech you can't afford to get that much iron, so you need higher tech to get the iron and ofc more resources and more maintainance to get your higher iron output.

You get a warning (visual and output wise) before it is fully destroyed and the higher the tech the better the quality. If you see something broken it is just naturally to fix it.

The limitation of the resources is the regeneration time and the maintaining work you put into it.
The more you advance the more resources you will need and the more likely it is that your resource production can't keep up with the amount of resources you need.
So you got three limitations.

And I think not doing something or destroying something in the nature also belongs to life and the game. The game will sure be easier and relaxter, but wrong picked milkweeded etc leads to a crisis and good stories. People should act responsible with their environment.

With tech and some parts of nature there should be a way to maintain and fix mistakes.

#262 Re: Main Forum » The story of sign guy » 2018-05-21 19:11:47

In both towns I lived. Unfortunatly there was in the sol town a guy named Coco. He had a knife and wanted to kill all. I grabbed a bow and ran after him. Shot my arrow and hit Alleria. Sorry for that, wasnt meant to hit you ^^

And I saw that kid that chopped down your sign. I wanted to punish him, but something else went inbetween. My mum always said that the sign guy forgot to take his pills.... big_smile

My kid jason was funny:

was the same ice biom north next to it one adobe kiln. South Grasland. Some ponds to the left with cactus farm.

#264 Re: Main Forum » Cacti Kingdome » 2018-05-19 19:14:52

The first babys died because we lived in the woods, some ran away. And the last boy died when I got something far away where no food was around and grew old.
But four of them did it. Three women grew old. Idk what happend after I died. There was so much food around and the kids of them were able to eat by thereself. Probatly it was to much food around. So they forgot to eat lol

I was spawned as an eve in a big and food wealthy grasland. I was happy and raised a few kids there.
Unfortunatly we had not much water near by. So the plan was to move and find water.

I walked north and hit a big desert biom full of cactus. I couldnt belife what I saw. Minimum 15 cactus plants. I walked more into the desert and found more and more cactus plants. There were so many I couldnt count them. There was even a bit water in the desert. I called my kids and we moved into the desert.
I died at 60 with a full stomage. Everywhere cactus fruit on the ground and lot of people running around.

The cactus god really blessed us!

If the females dont step on the snakes this line can live forever!

#268 Re: Main Forum » Drawing Contest » 2018-05-19 09:19:01

So. I never really draw in my life. I just had to do it in school and I didnt liked it.
But now I am a little bit older and I want to learn it and improve it.
This is my first try ever to draw something. This is also not my finished version of the LLama, just a little motivation maybe for anyone out there to sign in for the contest.
Unfortunatly it seems that my LLama was involved in an car accidend it lost one leg and it seems it hit the car with its head. But I like it tongue

No bouncing.

#270 Re: Main Forum » Drawing Contest » 2018-05-18 15:45:54

Great!

Are you experienced?

I think we should start the drawing contest on 28.05.18, so everyone got enough time to prepare. (Get some pens, make template, etc.)
The Theme of each contest will be released on Monday. Untill the following saturday 23:59 UTC the drawers got time to finish and send in their masterpieces.
Drawings can be send in to this E-Mail-Adress: OHOL-DrawingContest@web.de

On sunday all the send in drawings will go online in the forum. They will be uploaded to an CloudService and the forum users can vote 8 days long in a poll which masterpiece will make it into this thread as the winner of the weekly contest.

The drawings should match the OHOL style. But ofc bring your own style into them!
On my side I will try to draw the objects like Jason(See Youtube Video in the first post) so mod publishers can use them for their mods. You dont need to do that.

Is this okay for you guys? Something I forgot? Is one week enough to draw something?

If you have any ideas/wishes what we can draw send an email to: OHOL-DrawingContest@web.de.

Edit: For the first contest the theme will be "Llama" so you can all sharpen now your drawing skills untill the weekly contest starts.

#271 Re: Main Forum » How do i get the files » 2018-05-18 14:50:50

No need for double posts!

Check your E-Mails, if you used the right E-Mail-Adress you should have an E-Mail in your inbox that contains the downloadlink.

#272 Re: Main Forum » Drawing Contest » 2018-05-17 18:44:21

Thank you for the information Jason!

I guess the consistency aspect is true, but I think for mod publishers it would be a great help. So some extra informations about scaling and what else would be great!

But it seems no one likes drawing here tongue Anyways I will give it a try tongue

Also, temp login does not work either.

The message askes for home and other networks. If you just allow "home" but your homenetwork is set up as other network it will block it.

Maybe give us some more informations. Are you sure you use the correct E-Mail and Login-Key? What version did you downloaded? What version is it upgraded after you pressed login? What messages pop up? Does the messages always when you start the game pop up? Where did you installed the game? How did you unpackaged it?

And did you contact Jason by mail?

Hey Guys!

Maybe there are some of you that like to draw. Maybe there are also people that like to learn how to draw (me) tongue
Since we are all connected by one thing - our beloved game and of course the CACTUS GOD.

We could make a OHOL Drawing Contest where we draw in the OHOL style and each contest we would face a new thing to draw.

For example one week the thing to draw is a "Lama". Everyone that participates draws a lama and after the contest there will be a voting on which lama is the coolest. The most voted Objects get a special place in a gallery and maybe Jason or mod publishers are in love with one of the drawings and it will be used as an ingame objects.

There are two videos on Jasons Youtube Channel where you get a small view how he is doing the drawing, why he draws the body parts separated and what pens he uses.

Video One at 8:55 pens
Video Two

Maybe Jason could give us more detailed information about the drawing process and his pro tips.

I would be interested if you guys like the idea, if you have any improvements and how many of you can draw or like to learn it and if you would like to take part in the contest?
