The fertility tracker is a great bonus too, I rarely want to stay in a town with no children to inherit eventually.
Also the age-meter is a feature I wouldn't ever want to miss again.
I see a use in shouting but none in whispering
All the times I've been in last or next to last generation it was due to following reasons (working in combination and ordered in importance)
Reason number 1: (US) Night shift. It's night not many players are online drastically reducing town population. These are the towns you are drowning in resources. Tons of food, tools, horses, clothes, backpacks, yet the next generation is very uncertain.
Reason number 2: Unlucky RNG on girls vs. boys. So you had 4 children. All of them boys -> game over.
Reason number 3: Noobiness. Sometimes the girls you have are just too inexperienced to survive and put the food that is all around in their mouth.
then there is a gab.
Reason number 4: Griefers. Only with the combination of the previous 3 they can push a town over the edge. So you got 1 woman ... and that gets murdered. "muhahahaha." *rolls eyes*. If the town would be lively with players averagely experienced the griefer couldn't bring it down. Even if he breaks the compost cycle people could eat from wild resources etc.
Then there is a hugh, hugh gap.
Reason none: Ressource scarcity of any kind. Never seen it happen on iron, only on food in new villages with nobody baking, people standing in the cold feeding children eating like crazy, etc. (Reason 3)
Thus increased iron scarcity did nothing to towns, but made eve camps harder. Well it's not actually hard to scavenge for iron (with the zoom mod that is). But many players die trying and it takes time while the camp would still need all human power for various other tasks.
I also agree to what has said previously the actually most scarce resource is time. You only got 60 minutes (well somewhat less given useless baby/granny/grandpa years) to accomplish anything.
EDIT: One thing I forgot, lag spikes, can also occasionally be a serious mass-killer.
Using the mod I usually play zoomed in on default view for the mod, which is 1.5 I guess?
Official client became unbearable for me, for example watching people on stream using it. Recently had a guy, who just lost his way all the time within a small village... A little more view than one and a half human length would have really helped. With the default client you can see as far as one human and a little more is height. Everyone must be really focusing on the ground all the time.
Practical issues without zoom mod:
* Travelling together is really even much worse (on eve level, or follow as a kid because mum carries something valuable back to town after sudden birth)
* Iron scavenging is so much worse.
* Milkweed scavenging is worse.
* Finding an eve spot is so much worse.
* Travelling alone is so much worse (with default client, a boar can jump on you out of view, death deus ex machina)
* It is even more impossible to have an eye on potential griefers(1)
Is it "unfair"? This game is not competitive, so how can it be "unfair" it's not like I'm going to use it to "win" faster.
Does it make the gaming boring? I doubt it and even it would be game difficulty through bad interface would be a horrible game design anyway.
(1): About griefing and watching. Just because you might be oblivious to people who do nothing but deliberately try to hurt your town all their life doesn't mean they are not there. Deliberately in contrast to newbies who are more hurting than helping because they just don't know better. And if they notice you notice, you *will* get murdered more! These are their murder targets, people who know...
But all of this being said, i still feel like its way better to take an horse cart with 4 basket, get a bunch of milkweed far away, and come back with 16 ropes
This works you. However my guess is for a good portion of people, it just ends up the person, the horse cart and the baskets are never to be seen again...
I actually saw a couple of weeks ago a player plant a huge milkweed farm because we had no iron and we needed hoes, but he kept breaking the hoe in the process, so he basically planted milkweed to make the hoes he needed to plant the milkweed.
The stone hoe has in average 20 uses and requires hoe 4 uses to be created for it's rope, so in average it's 5 ropes created costing 1 rope. I say the player was doing alright. As long there was enough food he didn't take all the soil from.
There is also an iron price due to the shovel for the compost and the soil again in berries, carrot and wheat for the compost, but it's rather negligible.
PS: Unless he used two tills on one soil... then this would be much worse.
A typical pein building. Love it. I think I can always tell if you have been in a town before.
Actually it got mathematically broken down on the forums and ultimately when iron is low it's far better to use skewers, not stone hoes given the amount of soil and water needed per use of tool.
Yes, but that wouldn't help to make my point about milkweed ![]()
Stone hoes are actually more efficient on iron usage then steel hoes, considered the iron needed for the soil for the milkweed.
Lassos can be cut now.
I'm a fan of the idea of way bigger biomes and alternative ways to accomplish things in the biomes, like some other way to make ropes without grasslands. But as the biomes are a "rag rug" as now, I don't see an issue with milkweed.
A griefer complains about hate about griefers and not "taking a blanced approach", while hate is what griefers are all about. What a surprise.
As far I understood it, the map editor is about doing small test maps, not putting structures into the big default map.
I know not what you asked for, but you can change your server to non-aging, non-food requirement and force your spawn location... Then you can build on a regular way all the things in peace.
ANd that is how pollution and china starts...
Next global warming in OHOL ![]()
just hate towards griefers.
Thats what they are going for anyways. So why the surprise?

Griefing an eve camp, just wow, what an achievement. *rolls eyes*
Clayton family? My big brother Jack Clayton, maybe? I was Tom Clayton. We were second gen. Mother died super young. I retrieved the firebow drill, near the bears. I still don't know who did it. Probably some runaway kid that died afterwards.
If that was you, I hope you come back soon. It was nice to play with you. Some days are worse than others, but you know, I had three awful lives yesterday, but then I had one of my favourite lives so far right after them. And even though we had someone griefing our Eve Camp, I enjoyed that life too.
Yes. http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=2283519
Was very nice to play with you.
I said I made an exception for online gaming, since OHOL seemed so positive watching on twitch.
Tonight, 3 games, 3 times griefed, 2 times murdered (ableit over the age of 50.. wow, you got a long f** griefer)
First game: massacre lady with already two kills I couldn't even kill albeit I had a knife due to "dancing mechanic.
Second game: an eve camp, mostly cool people, one had to take the fire drill as soon as they was a child ran of into the badlands and wake all bears (two screens away, didn't make much damage and we found the drill since the bears gave it away, but still, sigh). Griefing an eve camp, just wow, what an achievement. *rolls eyes*
Third game: That was an akward village, but baking went down since nobody had a knife. Decided to make one. Didn't see a file, so went for a goose, skinned the goose, starting looking for the axe. Gone. Found a stone hatched, made a fire... goose gone. But file here again. wtf. Okay, so can go directly for the knife. A girl used the smithy, at first didn't want to interrupt her... which just constantly kept making shovels.. There was already a basket full of shovel heads and she kept doing more... Said enough with the shovels, we need a knife! She: "murderer!"... really? I took the hammer. Smithed a blade blank... went off to get something to eat, I came back the blank was gone, that kid standing there. Okay cursed her. She tried to curse me back, but no token. Then stabbed me.
I need an off time. If the griefers wanted to force me out. You won. At least for now.
PS: Why is it almost always that totally geared up little girl that turns out to be a griefer.
BTW: People wearing red vs. people wearing blue is not "racism".
racism would be blondes vs. black haired.
* Cutting the last wheat. How could I forget that!
Simply wanting a dog is a legitimate use. Not everything has to have instrumental value. Paint doesn't. Bonsais don't. Signs don't. Notes don't. Arguably, the entire "goal" of the game, to the extent one exists at all, is to build the infrastructure necessary to achieve the non-instrumental values.
I've no issue with paint, bonsais, signs and notes. Never seen a bonsai tough. And notes and signs *do* or can have their purpose in town organisation.
But for dogs there is only danger... and for every legitimate "i want it for beauty" person as you might be, there are several griefers.
It's not worth it, and this is due the way the mechanics around dogs work.
Seriously okay I'm terrible in PvP and always was and was never interested much in it anyway.
But so we got a griefer-killer, I got a knife, and for the hell I couldn't kill him, because he moved all the time even him being in 25% slowmo mode and constantly dropped the knife trying to right click where he stands.
Sorry, but either I'm totally dofus or this needs fixing.

Mutton growing faster than spend is people doing too much berries and not enough baking.
When i am the shepherd, i can literally INFEST the town of mutton meat everywhere. Its nearly impossible to bake faster than i can produce meat (and even if you fast enough, you would run out of plates). When i am the baker, the issue is i quickly run out of plates. But tbh once you have 20+ mutton pies stored up, the correct thing to do isn't to produce more plates, its to do more useful things, such as creating a nursery, making more roads, adding horse carts, creating clothes, etc.
Yup, and in case you have 20+ mutton pies stored up, there is no use to make bread or bake mutton, because of no plates.
If mutton piles up, because of dung created for compost, then this must be used for too much berry eating instead of pies.
No, seriously there is *no* legitimate use of dogs in the game on the one hand and a major griefers tool on the other hand. There is no balance, if e.g. chihuahuas would at least be a permanent decorative entity, but no they need to be fed to continue their life cycle. The difference is, I don't mind anybody doing bonsais...
If Jason wants them to be something for good intentioned town folk, either remove mean pit bulls or put in a good use that balances out the danger. If all they actually do is being there for griefers, because griefers are supposed to be part of the game to make it interesting, I'll assume you are one the moment you feed mutton to a wolf.. and apply my anti-griefing reactions... made it the more "interesting"?
The sociopaths are infact the griefers that get a power kick by seeing a village/town fall due to their action.
There is no reason to run out of plates. Make more plates!
Mutton growing faster than spend is people doing too much berries and not enough baking.
Disagree. Kindling-dependent projects are often critical and urgent, and there is often a kindling shortage (due to mismanagement). It's a good idea to leave kindling in ovens and kilns, but ovens and kilns are very often idle. So if you urgently need to start a fire, and the only kindling around is in an oven that no one is working at right now then go ahead and take it.
What is sooooo "critical and urgent" you have to disrupt what someone else just prepared? Only exception, drastic food shortage and you have tons of eggs lieing around.
Disagree. Baskets are very often in tragically short supply (usually because the bakers are wasting them on raw mutton and raw rabbit, instead of locating the bakery with an edge adjacent to open terrain and then leaving their raw supply spread out over the ground). Whereas wheat is usually either in two states - there's essentially none at all and the compost cycle is in danger, or compost is working well and there's a TON of it being grown. If the latter is true, go ahead and make baskets. Make a TON of baskets. There's never enough bowls, baskets, boxes, and carts. Ever.
Well is there compost or isn't. In case there isn't the basket you want to make cannot be more important. And even if there would be plenty of straw, why are you making that basket instead of compost? Well if you urgently need one, just take one from the bakery and put the pies on the ground. Still better than wasting that straw when it would urgently be needed for compost.
Get stuffed. I haven't learned how to breed dogs yet, nor had the time to do so (I stay really f*ing busy in every life so far), but I'll be goddamned if I'm not going to breed one the first chance I get. I may only ever do it once (when the novelty wears off), but F* YOU if you think I'm not allowed to take advantage of something fun and unique that Jason put in the game specifically to entertain people.
Well and I'm allowed in the game to stop you because of dog breeding, because it has zero use but being a griefers tool. It's not worth the risk. See and this kind of sullen reactions is why I don't warn or discuss in the game, but stab right away.. You can try again in another village or do it on an empty server all by yourself if you just need to see it.
If there are plenty of juniper trees still around, then there are plenty of extra that are better used as firewood than as a backup-backup-backup source of tinder.
As explained, you are just making the job for a griefer easier. You might be one that leaves the most inner juniper trees standing saying "but there are some"... and after you axed all of them far and wide you quickly cut down the innerst most before being able to be stopped.
