I admit that when I saw "you"
I hoped in my heart
You would rhyme it with poo
,At least I did
i dont know why
you think high art
like poetry
should rhyme with fart
or that in this post
which is serious
and dedicated to utmost
could be so delirious
or that maybe i am
writing this at
4 am
in my house
that has a mouse
and id say you are a rube
so i can rhyme it with
boob
Hello Sam. Glad to hear you survived until old age. I loved hearing your poems, they were beautiful. When I first saw you reciting them, I was gravely confused, but recognized them soon after. Thank you for respecting my wish in death. Glad you liked the red clothes I gave you — despite nearly being murdered, you turned out to be a great man. Good work.
Love,
Waylon
hello waylon
you were quite nice
on your grave
i repeated it twice
i named the child
after you
and to your name
he grew true
hope in the future
we will meet again
and maybe ill be the teacher
this time old friend
No worries dude, I wish I knew how to read though.
it can be tough
when you werent raised
to read enough
but i know
if you learn
reading will be
something well earned
I like it.
thanks man
i did all
that i can
born to a village
as a man
i was known
to be sam
in the farm
i practiced my poems
nobody stopped
guess nobody knew em
but one strange man
stopped to stare
his name was waylon
and he cared
shoes and shirt
then a hat
he gave me
all of that
to the grave
way up north
was his mother
who gave him birth
a shroom for mom
and one for waylon
i really didnt
want to fail him
but in town
a child named ares
a girl who was mean
and not really fair-ish
ares shouted
and demanded a hat
but the girl
denied her that
so she took a knife
from her pack
and cut up the girl
like a snack
then she turned to me
and demanded my shirt
but it was waylons gift
to part would hurt
my mother rose
raised me right
so i never
stayed to fight
i ran away
with a huff
hoping that
she would piss off
in the woods
cried a babe
only minutes old
and not too late
i fed the child
and warned him
of the murderer
who was quite grim
but off he went
to the south
and i prayed
it would work out
i grew old
not a shroom in sight
i guess worms
would be alright
saw my son
grown and strong
gave him my clothes
hoped he would live long
by the graves
i found my mam
the person who made me
sam, i am
personally i dont see myself starting in the arctic unless there were some essential changes made so that life in the arctic could be survivable.
for example:
- we could start eating raw meat for less hunger, but still gives food
- another option for string other than milkweed is created (or milkweed grows in the snow too)- maybe we can start making hide strips out of seal fur to use as string and rope instead
- seals can be eaten and cut up using flint, or maybe a new object like "sharp ice" that only spawns in the snow
- warmer clothes can be made, or maybe the addition of mittens to up the heat
- a few more sources of meat and fur are added to the snowy biomes
this would make sure that we can survive exclusively in this biome and rely on meat as the main source of food rather than crops, which we currently cant grow exclusively in that environment because of lack of dirt/fresh water. with the addition of more recipes for food that are meat-focused and the expanded use of animals, yes, i think i could see myself trying to start a life in the arctic. of course there needs to be a new way of making fire too since there will be no maple trees.
and id do that just for the fun of it. even if it would be easier to live in a swamp or whatever. even now i sometimes just settle in an area with a lil less food than i would like b/c its that or just wander forever.
i think u might be underestimating the stubbornness of ur players. only the newer folks wouldnt want to start by themselves in the snow. but for ppl who have put in the hours? thats a challenge we'd love to take on, as long as its possible to thrive.
edit: honestly the more i think about this idea the more i like it. if we had access to specific resources that only existed in the area and was a part of a different tech tree it would start giving us an actual reason to trade with villages. like lets say that only ppl in the desert had access to horses, but the prairies were rich with furs (of animals more than rabbits). they could start exchanging better clothes for horses and such. or lets say a biome has a specialty item that grants the ppl in that biome an advantage. like for rocky biomes the ppl could make bladder water pouches that hold 2 water in each pouch out of bears, they could trade it to the grassland ppl for rope or lumber. its SUCH a cool idea wow
I was Creed Sampson. I was there for your death. I considered killing the one who murdered you but she didn't seem like she was going to harm anyone else. During my life I never saw a knife aside from the one Clara had. But aside from your murder during my life things went well. I spent most of my time growing the three sisters and making stew. one of my cousins made a huge amount of compost and started a milkweed farm. Everything was fairly well maintained. I died at ripe old age of 59 after giving a young child a backpack that I think was looted from your corpse.
ah well i only asked cos there seemed to have been a few more murdered from jon http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … _id=360929. i think he mightve had the second knife
So I tried to right click, just as my cousin was picking up the goose. Got her right through the stomach with my very first shot.
I was crushed, kept saying sorry- that it'd been an accident, I was aiming for the goose near her! A few people gathered around, confused and angry and concerned, as I tried to explain what happened. My mother looked on all this proudly, said "GJ" and starved to death.
u got my bow! im glad the town decided to keep patrolling with it. did you guys manage to find both knives in the end?
early in my life i saw an older woman pass off two knives in a bag to a little girl. i was a bit miffed since she wasnt even a shepard and imo giving knives to children is the worst damn idea. well, later on i became the shepard. id spent my whole life trying to restore the massive, dry berry farm and finally i could work on helping to compost. things were going well and i had lots of sheep
but i needed a few to be slaughtered. so i went to the girl and asked her to kill about three shorn sheep. she agreed and went to the pen, but she seemed new. she kept taking her bag on and off and tried to take the knife out while it was in the bag on the ground. well, while she was doing that someone swooped in and stole the knives.
so we set off alarms yelling at everyone "someone stole the knives. there is a griefer around!"
i made a bow and offered it to the girl but she said "im a farmer" as if i wasnt! thats how i ended up in the role of the vigilante. if uve seen my other forum posts i generally dont kill ppl, but today i was feeling a lil extra feisty. i just wanted some damn mutton!
well, after a few searches and a lil deduction i fell upon lucus as the most suspicious. he was silent through every search despite being present and attentive at every gathering (where i yelled about a thief). i asked him, "did you steal the knives??" and he remained silent. i figured he was being quiet to create some drama so i didnt kill him yet. but then he stepped right beside me, remaining silent. keep in mind that through everything i was very constant about yelling that i was gonna kill the thief so its not like he didnt know what he was doing. i killed him.
lucus gave some spiel about how he cooks food or whatever. i didnt bother moving, id set things in motion and wanted to see it play out. then clara pulled out a knife and killed me saying "that was for my friend". i called her a thief and she gave another spiel about how she "found" the knives and that the girl had put it on the ground so it was free game.
well, that was it for me. what happened after my death, sampson family?
born to a full town with plenty of resources? bored and nothing to do? try following these steps:
1. create a cart
2. take a basket with food (only 1 will work, dont be greedy u will find food out there!)
3. set a home marker
4. pick a direction and go!
whats the point of this you ask? well, your civ isnt going to have infinite resources forever is it? its going to need to expand into new territory! and the growing number of mouths will put a strain on its limited land. you should use your time to further your colony! find a good spot? excellent. make a mental note (or leave a trail of tree branches so u kno where it is) and return! find a child (or three), hopefully around 10-13 and tell them to bring food in a basket and to follow to a new camp. have them set up! now tell the local strange man to start making a road to whichever direction your new camp is. help out in making this road! pass on your legacy to another child around 8-10. have them finish the road or go explore!
tips:
- i find that horses on the first trip are kinda fucking useless. u will most likely die tryna chase down ur horse n accidentally step on a snake, or it will run off while u eat. no, its better to be on foot
- tell the whole camp where your new camp is so that they know where to go to help out/ get more material
- make sure the camp is at least 4 biomes away to make sure u are *expanding* the colony's resources, not draining it to put into 2 camps
- if ur still young and have time, set up a horse wagon fence at each camp so resources can be transferred more easily
you know ur in a good town to do this if there are:
a) more than 10 adults/teens and majority are clothed
b) all you hear are baby cries
c) they already have 3 carts
d) food production is properly managed (so ur family will not die out while u r gone)
e) there are 4+ fertile women running about (ur about to have a population boom!)
i dont think the idea of males being used in conception is useful. the point of the current system is so that a lone woman can still repopulate a line and isnt dependent on male cooperation. i think the idea of being able to be adopted by your dad or to adopt your dad is a better, less complicated system. it could be like the naming system we have where a male picks up a baby and says "you are my child/daughter/son" and then he would be registered as either "father" or "adoptive father", i personally like the second cos it makes a better story.
(also with threads about "dads" or "adams" the idea of giving males an advantage always comes up. they already have an advantage- its that they can single-mindedly focus on one task. even if ur a woman who abandons all your kids, if ur the only one then ur basically stuck in baby duty. but a male can always care for an abandoned child or go explore further. if we start on expansion and exploration of towns, then males would become an essential part of that movement. they can go out further and look for better spots, and help move equipment or materials there. its really all about perspective and how useful ur being when ur born as a dude)
Dead bodies we can see last 2 hours, so the town might have died one or three hours before you came.
Yeah infrastructures were super long to make, when food was plenty I used to assign two people to make roads to nowhere and build wooden floors in towns, it takes time if you are not used to
yea there was a dead body more recently deceased (a full skeleton) a lil down south. i think the town mustve died out an hour before. still, i havent run into live towns yet. only dead ones.
ive run across an abandoned town before. it was a life when i was the child of an eve who suicided (with no live girls). it took me 25-30 years of my life to run into the town and i stole a horse and cart to look around. in my search i found two small camps and that was the biggest town id gotten to. all were long abandoned. it would take a dedicated force to go out and search and to come back, and another few generations to actually make connections with infrastructure

its just... not an exciting game. im a fan of simulation games so im totally fine with that but the game itself inherently has nothing stimulating. all of the interest and action is created by the players, which means that if someone doesnt put in the time to create a meaningful experience they will leave without one. this manifests in "job?" or "need help?" what the players are *actually* asking is "give me something to work to". in most towns only 1/3 people actually do useful things to keep the system working. ive spent whole lives trying to sort out dirt, crop, and meat systems for the village while a hoard of mothers sit around a camp doing nothing but talking.
currently, talking is the most interesting thing about the game. thats like loading up a book that gives gibberish 70% of the time and produces interesting content that 30% (less for newer players since they dont get to live long enough to experience the fun aspects of the game).
to keep players busy and interested a major goal needs to be set. the bell was a cool update when it first came out, but now its just a pile of rocks that does nothing to contribute. a city can do without it and its only made when everyones just bored. i think this is why some ppl suggest npcs that you could attack and fight. but personally, i think itd change if we could spawn closer to one another.
i remember in a past life i spawned in a village close to another and my first decree as queen was to attack it. it created drama and gave people *purpose* which then makes the game fun and diverse. people need to be in contact with other people in order to create this kind of human drama (which is what ohol is really about). because we spawn so far from everything and everyone, and always start new towns only to see them fail, we dont get far. in order to give a chance at change and something interesting (beyond sporadic murderers), we need to be able to access one another.
this is why humans developed trade routes and faster modes of transportation. but currently our mode of transportation is frankly garbage. a horse is more trouble than its really worth and i see most of them being used for short-distance trips (like to fill a well or whatever). we cant even hunt on horses or get off them and expect them to stay. so how can we expect to lead large expeditions out to scout or even trade with neighbors?
tldr: there is no purpose to this game besides trying to keep the towns from dying off. we need to be in contact with random towns in order to create more excitement and variation of experiences that allow players an opportunity to create the fun. in order to do this we need reliable transportation
You can make your fathers grave already. Use a chisel and either a,m,u,d,s,b, or s+s..
but none of em say "daddy", "pops", "father", or "papa" so what is the Point!
As time would allow it, I had your dear brother Eagan, or Eagle, his true name, to him I gave my backpack. His heart was soft, and his connection with the sheep were true. Just as his "Dad". You didn't have a father, but he was truly, a father figure in dear Eagan's life. Soon, Eagan grew and tended to the sheep happily. I was proud of him.
dad really was soft! ma abandoned me as a baby, just spending enough time to name me. i wandered about the farm screaming "F" to every passing lady. one kindly fed me but none cared for me. i resigned myself to death at one hunger when dad swooped in and took me in. he said "this is my son." the moment i typed "dad". i was sad that i didnt get to see his last moments, but i told him "ily" as often as possible. he was the best dad and its all thanks to you, gma!
-sun
hey i was sun. i buried you where you were standing for this picture, uncle. i was gonna try making u and pa markers but i couldnt get em in time. i put a boot on your grave and pa's. died next to all of u
i wanted to chisel "dad" for my dad's grave. but it doesnt exist. why? let me mark my father's grave!
yes! ive been adopted so many times that at this point we really are just asking for a method for us to express what is already happening in-game. and itd be interesting if ppl went around "adopting" unwilling children gamora-style
i always end up being the last survivor huh
well, after my mother abandoned me i was adopted by my father, eagan. he raised me to be a shepard and i did my best. i witnessed my grandmother's death and missed my father's, but i was there for my uncle's. all three of you were buried alongside my adopted grandfather's grave. i died beside you all. hope an eve managed to spawn afterwards
the clan died out because the children did not survive to be of age

i was born into this lineage before. i died of poor hunger management before i got to name my (only) daughter. nameless i am so sorry! i intended to name you "jackie". im glad you managed to live a long life though!
