They need an outlet of some kind. Right now the whole stealing and hiding stuff is their only outlet. Before it was killing people. Honestly i preferred the killing. Someone would show up, make a big scene, stab someone, get stabbed, die, the innocent person would get healed, rinse, and repeat. At least for the most part towns were stable and dealing with them was pretty simple. They got to do what they like to do and it wasnt detrimental to the total ecosystem of the town. The town killer types were super rare but not hard to catch and deal with.

With the leadership change all we see now is town killers, because thats their only outlet.

They need something where they can have fun without disrupting things beyond repair. Some chaos can be exciting, constant chaos is painful. So finding that middle ground where they have fun doing what they do, other people can have fun countering them, but overall the impact is low.

Town killers were rare back in the day because i imagine its boring. Whats fun about scrapping an engine? I presume they only do it for the rush of annoying people. Find something low impact thats not only fun but gives them their fix of annoying people and problem solved.

#302 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 12:04:56

Simply. No matter how many measures are put in place griefers will always find a way to annoy people. The more measures we put in place the more stale and formulaic the game becomes.

I dont think its worth potentially making the game more dull and repetitive in the desire to stop something that can never be stopped.

P.S or spending months on adjustments and fixes for a system that might just be a bandaid for a knife wound. We are finally getting legit content. I would rather see eggs put in those baskets than some rabbit hole that might take months to "work" and distract jason from progressing tech in the game.

#303 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 11:28:54

Still find it hilarious you think im some type of griefer (criminal), or even defending them. Like how close minded can you be, you know nothing about me, how long ive played, or how i play.

If its illegal to bring up the fact its human nature and a playstyle that is not only common in games, but probably the most common then lock me up. But good luck fixing that issue. All you're going to do is make the game even more boring, rigid, and lame. If you like that, push for it. Those types of players will always find their corner.

These are the words of someone who has seen more griefing than i hope you ever do. I was pissed once, fought hard against it. Eventually my will to fight just broke and i decided to focus on what i enjoyed about the game instead of constantly fighting what i hated about it.

Also just because you made this thread doesnt mean you own it. It also doesnt mean you get to govern how people express themselves here.

#304 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 10:40:50

21/83 posts on this forum. I think its time to take a beat and let other people express themselves. Cant expect people to realistically read through all this.

You brought up griefing, i talked about griefing. Just because you disagree doesnt discount my input.

No ones interested in a novel about how everyone hates griefing. We have all heard it before and if you combined all the posts on these forums about it you would have a book so thick it would rival the dictionary.

Might be cathartic to complain but it isnt getting us anywhere. Ive been in your shoes, play long enough and you will just get hardened to the fact this community is what it is.

If you are going to call Tarr a griefer, you might as well call out Jason for that time he released a swarm of bears on a town as divine retribution.

But of course, you know that Tarr isn't part of the griefer problem.   You are just trying to muddy the waters.

I honestly expected more from you than to swallow that handful of blue pills. Excuse me while I toss red pills in your face. Straw man me all you want.

If you dont think tarr was a griefer back in the day.. like. Ever heard of the green hats? Know who founded them? My point was that the antigriefers and the griefers are cut from the same cloth, its a fact. Ignore it all you want.

If you actually have a solve for this problem state it. If you dont, stop complaining. Jason cant ban anyone without an eula. All you're doing is yelling at a wall and expecting it to jump. I gave up on expecting this problem to be solved long ago. It will benefit you to do the same. All thats been done has made the game more static. You like race restrictions, like leadership? Thats the measures that have been added to diminish the problem you're having. Both of which can be abuse, and both put a chain around the neck of this game. Cant wait for whats next..

#308 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 02:59:00

You know cops shoot innocent people all the time. Same goes for the antigriefers. My point wasnt about either side being wrong but that the orientation is surprisingly similar. Have had several friends nearly quit, and quit, the game because they were wrongly accused and attacked by individuals with good intentions. It is worth addressing.

I first rolled this name during the war sword update to see if it even made a difference in terms of people killing me. It didnt. So i kept it. My fam has been targetted and griefed more than most, and yes it hurts, but i get it. Some people think its asking for griefing and some think its because im a griefer. All i care about in terms of this game is making a difference. Laying my bricks so others can build off them. Go ahead and try and villainize me or discount me to validate your own point. I wouldnt expect anything less from this community. Keep it up and we will be back at 30 regulars pretty fast.

#309 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 00:35:32

Not justifying anything. Just sitting on the fence and looking at both sides, try it sometime.

Just bringing up that fact there is no outlet for that playstyle, and maybe there should be. The longest lineages were not because of people pouring themselves into fams or because they resisted griefers. Its always been about how spawns have been structured. Always. Argue with me all you want. But every spike has been because of some adjustment by jason to enforce strong spawns for families.

#310 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-25 00:11:00

I chose my name for the meme names (epic, mega, legendary, great, major, etc) and because its ironic in reference to my playstyle. I bring up the fact that griefers will always be apart of this game because it IS a fact. There isnt a fix and thinking there is is naive. All fixes that have been introduced have only made the game more boring and stale.

If you like a rigid system that forces players into a box, glory to you, but that's the opposite reason i was attracted to ohol. This game really gives players freedom and the dynamic of this game is the human element. This game is supposed to be brutal and truly represent the human condition. If that is too much for you to handle and want a structured casual experience then.. yea idk what to say to you.

The real issue is that griefers fall under a playstyle, not because they are bad people or because they hate you. Sure beef happens in this game but its pretty mild and short lived. Every town and family has an expiration date and to poise yourself around that as a drive or a priority is only going to bring heartbreak and anger. As much as they dont want to admit it, the antigriefers of this game fall under the exact playstyle as the griefers. They both seek confrontation and find exhilaration and thrill from it. That isnt going anywhere and expecting some type of fix for that nature is silly.

The issue is those people have no outlet, so they find the outlet they can find. Scrapping engines, hiding supplies, sabotaging resources, fighting griefers, mass cursing, creating rivalries and motivating the masses from one side or the other. They need an outlet. If you pay attention the lifespan of towns or fams its pretty average across the board. Griefers play a role in that sure, but they rarely effect the lifespan much on average. Its natural for families and towns to die out. The main issue with that isnt players, but the spawn pattern for eves.

Healthy outlets for griefers/antigriefers will likely redirect the issue into something beneficial as opposed to purely destructive. Or at least into something interesting and dynamic instead of just generally annoying.

But yea the spawn system is the main issue if you want long living fams and towns.

P.S. Anti griefers im looking at you. Almost all of you were griefers once. The holier than thou stuff is just a facade. Accept yourself and accept griefers for what they are and maybe the game can grow into something thats good for both of you.

#311 Re: Main Forum » Abuse by Griefers » 2020-09-24 02:24:06

Griefing is apart of human nature. If society hasn't figured out a cure in 20,000 years how can we expect jason to. Every tool that could be added will be a double edged sword and likely be easily abused by griefers as well. Trying to squash the possibility of violence, like with leadership, makes the game stale. Forcing people to work together is boring. I miss when violence was common. The rush of defending your family and saving lives as a medic added a richness that has been lost. Families used to raid each other, steal, and take over villages. This too is apart of human nature that has been squashed by race restrictions. That chaos and that uncertainty made things exciting. It also demanded families find ways to protect themselves, like with walls. Now it feels like playing the same life over and over. This forced collaboration is fake. Instead of mechanics that force experiences down a tunnel how about revamping the curse system, which honestly doesnt do anything in its current state. Or maybe give an outlet for violent pvp types instead of vilifying them and trying to run them out of the game.

Forced collaboration isnt fun and honestly beyond boring. Same with leadership nonsense. Pull off the training wheels and lets ride this bike the way it was meant to be ridden.

#314 Re: Main Forum » Freeplay » 2020-08-08 08:42:36

Honestly yea

Imagine being able to spawn into a "tutorial area" exclusive to your account. A place you could freely experiment. You could turn food or age on and off and /die at any age. Sounds like a dream to me.

Im thinking like a solo rift exclusive to each account and held on a different server than bs2.

Would give freedom to experiment and learn the game with a low impact risk.

To be fair though a lot of the challenge of this game is that difficult learning curve. That isnt for everyone though and enabling players to learn and unlock the true potential of this game is more valuable.

#315 Re: Main Forum » Why do animals live forever? » 2020-08-07 07:42:16

Wouldnt animals need to respawn if they aged? I think the main reason animals live forever is so they remain a static resource that can be depleted. If mouflon respawned that would be essentially an unlimited source of food with no resource cost. If they didnt respawn then essential animals would disappear pretty quickly. Also im presuming they would be on a decay timer so you would need to render the area to cycle their timers, and likely to trigger new spawns as well.

#316 Re: Main Forum » What's your favourite names for kids? » 2020-08-06 23:49:21

Epic
Mega

Awesome
Legend
Good
Unknown
Unnamed

Legendary
Major
Supreme
Great

I try to keep it to adjective since they have a chance to meme with any last name.

#317 Re: Main Forum » Meme score.... » 2020-08-05 04:01:38

Memescore is a pseudo score system. It doesn't really work. Jason doesn't want it to be too easy to grind score so the calculations are weighted against us. Basically turns into a 50/50 chance you either gain or lose score. Either way, the system is poised to be random and not give people the ability to control their score. I really don't get it, its only real purpose is to keep people from abusing the spawn system. I think there are better ways to discourage people from /dying other than score. Lets me real though, is it that big of a deal if someone wants to spawn back to a certain family or town? I know it really bothered some folks, but why? I get baby bones were annoying but wouldn't it be simpler to have sids not produce bones?

You can adjust the size of the hud and it removes that issue. Better than it auto scaling as you zoom in and out.

Glass i can see the issue with but roses are super easy to grow and supply to other fams.

This is a great feature. You can switch mods or update your mod by shutting down and reopening in the middle of the game. Also if your game crashes its easy to recover your existing life.

So wild wheat makes hardened rows. Meaning it takes (1 soil x1 water x1 milkweed seed) to removed them. Considering roads this makes wheat a huge obstacle.

how about guard dogs:

if you have a dog on a rope and left on an item or animal, it will protect the item if some one wants to move / take or kill it (except the owner of the dog).

And the dog is barking which creates an "!" visible from far.

If a bear comes the dog is also barking at the bear or any other dangerous animal and warns with something like an "!!". The wild animal keeps some distance from the dog, except in rare circuimstances where they attack each other.

When the dog is attacked he barks with "!!!" and attacks back.

As much as this would be cool, I could see it being used to grief easily. You could just tie dogs to everything and lock down essential things. It would also require a decent bit of code to make the dogs work. I would rather see adjustments done to systems that are already abused than add new ones that may or may not help with the issues.

But yea, its a really cool idea. I could see dogs being some kind of late game protection. Like breeding dogs for specific purposes. Maybe some would attack bears and be equivalent of an arrow. So if you maintained that breed you could basically have them attack the bear and take it down with no risk of human lives. Same could be done for wolves, boars, snakes, turkeys, rabbits, etc.
