Simple fools. We used a d6 because we split each (aside from the last) category into three sections and a d6 has perfect thirds while a d20 doesn't.

It is also more about the fact we statted our characters.

Evil doesn't mean homicidal. Evil and aggressive is homicidal. Still though, it was just a way to create depth of character and RP.

There’s the d12. But that’s hipster me talking

Maybe just being able to draw on the floor with chalk/characoal pencil should be enough to propperly plan it out.
Maybe the stakes placed on could be propperly aligned based on it's neighbor tiles. maybe.

Guy mentioned about making them work like property fences.

This is good suggestion I think. Stakes might be a tad annoying while someone is drawing a plan but probably better than needing to hack a bad wall later

I dont think  that the limit for building should be resources.
It should be time. Stones, branches, clay, whatever you use for your house, arent hard to find  IRL.
But it takes alot of work refining those resources before you can build a house out of them.

Now, a craft timer was the first thing to come to mind, but that just sounds horrible for OHOL.

What about, instead, it takes more steps  to build walls. Like green beans.
You dont just harvest them and put them into a crock pot.
YOu wait for them to dry, harvest them, clean them, soak them, etc.
It makes the whole process slower, but not boring.
Making stew would be boring if you just yoink 3 things off a bush and throw them in together, Maybe we should take this concept and apply it to other things that are "too easy" atm, instead of adding more resources needed to do them

I think it would be even worse that as a productive player, that knows how to build, you will have even more trouble completing it. The good ones would just stop building all together because it takes way too much time to complete.

If things change with building, would you rather have to go look for more and rare resources or do this?

Only if buildings would be actually worth it ofc

Thing is though adobe isn’t rare. Well maybe as game goes along? I think main issue with buildings is that it gets messy very fast. Check out the stakes idea someone else came up with. We are already doing this with property fences so why not with stakes?

You guys have been playing for a short while so pretty please, do as Jason should and start paying attention to when the community says something will turn terrible.

We knew cooldownless swords were insanity, fences useless and we also know locking down people makes them feel terrible.  They'll stay sometimes for the hope of being released, but griefers have 0 need to wait, they'll die if not fed and respawn. If a mechanic made to punish griefers hits normal players its not working so well.

i disagree with you, every weapon against griefers can be used against good players, unless we had GMs, but i don't think that's the purpose of the game.

You would be stuck only if the entire village wants you to be. And as i said, it is impossible to completely eliminate risks.

And even if griefers are willing to wait an entire life to griefer again (as i said they wouldn't starve while traped) the violence in the game would reduce for the time they were traped.

And im not new in the game, but started using the forum recently. Don't underestimate the new players, they may have really good ideas.

Honestly I think that’s too much of an effect, imagine if you are out on an errand and an eve manage to net you down. And the village is so far no one can rescue you.i agree this will stop griefers some bit but I think if even one innocent player has to go through pretty much but only stare at a screen with your character trapped is too much.

I've seen co-existence but only in towns with no war swords. It can happen but a bloodbath is never far off.  I've had experiences being sworded at birth because my mother was an eve inside a town, dickheads yoohoo'ing at me as I bled out.

I've been offering a suggestion for shackles even as prisoners, it's better than being sworded immediately or shot on sight like some wild animal.

Nope, no one wants that. Everyone is too proud to wear shackles. Never realising the paranoia a village deals with to take your eve butt in

Stop going on every god damn thread talking about god damn shackles, are you really that narrow sighted to see that it will turn sour? Its not that we are too proud, we just know it won't end well. People already will walk up stab you because you weren't the one that fed them as a baby because you were one of the few people in town willing to work and happened to be female that life. I am sorry to get mean, but you are not exactly being pleasant about us disagreeing with shackles/handcuffs/prisoners.

I apologize that came out wrong. Just so bothered by people welcoming eves in wantonly only to see slaughters though. I wish we have in between solution to this than outright kill or accept and hope for the best.

Will not say a word of this anymore.
Just hope next update will calm the eve invasion

I suggested something similar in the form of shackles and was shot down from all sides, safe one or two persons.

In my version, this lockdown, only takes away ability to use swords, bows and knives and only that! That's all! Otherwise you still can do most things, anything really except potential stabbing of innocents. A griefer would probably suicide immediately after they are caught cause they can't do their ultimate favourite thing. Sure they can still grief material but at least they are more visible with shackles on

Edit: Then again, shackle wars might ensue, but then again only griefers would pull that kind of stunt

Edit 2: Since I'm getting backlash again, this will be the last time I speak of this.  I still yearn for a more moderate in between rather than just Kill or Friend

The thing is, I've made those pine panels in real life, and it's a ton of work.

There's an aspect of this game that is a "real maker aesthetic," and I've kept that going for most things.  Track kits are a recent exception, along with property fences.

Obviously, the real maker aesthetic is cool and unique (no other game has 25 steps to make a fire, and the same steps translate exactly to real-world fire-making).

But just as obviously, a realistic making aesthetic is long-term tedious when you want to get down to business and play the damn game.

So I'm torn on stuff like this.  Would be nice to make a stack of pine panels after making one, and set up structures throughout the village quickly.

Also, the "adobify" suggestion is a great one.

Maybe they could be very easy to move to make ad-hoc, temporary structures?

But in real life the material cost is in reality what dictates what is made and what is not. Pine walls are not obsolete becuase they are tedious or require a lot of time and work, they are obsolete because you need 5 ropes and 4 shafts to make ONE panel, wich is ludicrous compared to the stone alternative or even compared to no building at all.

I predict that even at (1 rope+ 1 shaft) per panel we would still see no Pine walls, because the smallest room at 3x3 inside would need  16!!! ropes or 8 lassos, 64 milkweed.... you get the idea. To make them viable we need to get to 4 panels/rope at least. Think that the same room outside is less than 1 iron and labor (half a shovel and a quarter of a chisel). At 1 rope/ panel you still need more than 1 full iron (hoe), alot of work to farm and collect shafts plus a whole lot of soil + water.

The only way I see Pine walls working and flourishing is under a heavy buff in the cost side, something like: 4 ropes and 4 shafts give you a very complicated to craft workstation that produces 1 panel/ 1shaft alone, or maybe with a high top limit (with a chance of use like steel tools).

So much this

Now I don't know how rare rope is in real life history but it would seem to me it should be far more common since they have been used for so many constructions

We need more sources of fiber to make Rope Jason, then you will see more pine panel houses. If it's going to take 4 rope to make a panel, no one will make it. Now that I thi k about it, I've never seen one being made EVER since I started a month ago.

Hey all,

I recently did something a little different with a few friends of min who play this game as we tripletted.

We decided to roll for our personality stats for each life using 1d6.

1d6 is a 6 sided die.

We rolled for three stats

MORALITY, JUSTICE, CLASS were each individual stats.

MORALITY: 1-2 was evil (actively works against town) 3-4 was self-interested, 5-6 is good (work entirely for town)

JUSTICE: 1-2 was chaotic (no rules), 3-4 was neutral, 5-6 was lawful (follow stricter RP code)

CLASS: was a 1-6 numeric ranking that would determine who in the group had hierarchal status and set expectations towards leadership goals.

The group then also made a 'racism modifier roll' -- a 1-6 roll that would determine how friendly we would be to non-family members (it was basically a metric to determine how racist we would be in a life. 6 was very friendly and 1 was very racist.

We played this way, rolling separaely for three lives (though we kept a few rolls through some early deaths).

It was interesting. When we were good, we tried to keep the peace and remove trouble makers.

WHen we were bad, we organized and launched large raids against those who's RP had wronged us.

It's obvious though that when triplets and quads even sometimes twins) are involved, there are often power struggles and hierarchal imbalances between the grouped players and the surrounding family. Sometimes it gets really sketchy.

It was a lot of fun. Try it out! I was good twice and evil once. each life involved a lot of killing as racial tensions are meta atm. However, when I was evil I really orchestrated quite the genocide.

I think having 1/3 of people evil is probably overkill. If every third person has a perversion for genocide everyone is basically screwed. Can you just let the psychopath griefers do the griefing? We have enough on our plates as it is.

Argh can I just shackle assholes and shove a long shaft up then? Sick of this shit. Stop kicking sand castles

So by extension, multi Towned families have a far better chance of getting revisiting players from last life?

Okay so I heard of lineage bans and area bans and now with the new update I'm still confused

I'm currently under the impression, based on what Tarr said, is that we get area banned from where we were borned when we /die. So therefore if not wrong, if you were born like 200 plus tiles away from the family camp and /die, you can be born into same family again in the camp.

Doesn't this mean a family with multiple far enough towns will have the opportunity to be played by the same person consecutively? Just in a different town?

Sorry, bit of a dingus

Give us pork and beef! PORK AND BEEF!

Pine wall recipe could be changed to adze + long shaft = notched shaft. Combine 4 notched shafts to get a Wooden Frame. Wood joints and joinery is realistic and doesn't require rope.
Pine walls could require mallet to loosen and then axe to destroy.

Now that you mention it, what about those nailless and ropeless log houses? Surely butt logs shouldn't be a thing but just a log instead when a tree is chopped . Transportable only by hand cart or better
