[People will start making thousands of knives instead of storing iron the very moment a town reaches top technology tier.
Which is an important fact for town security to have quite a variety of knifes available. A town with way less than population is prone to murder sprees.
I'd rather blame anyone making locks to utterly waste resources. Locks are nothing but trouble, and use up iron of nothing really useful. Even for good minded people when it goes to the next generation. People dying with keys far away, a griefer locking the key inside a building / box with as most valuable as he got is finger on. etc.
I was just clarifying what was done by design. I'm clarifying the exploit being left in because it's necessary to allow people to grief with less than a two minutes playtime in their life because that's the spirit of online games as a whole.
Eh no. Sorry. Been in enough online games, even as a griefer you had to put in some effort and put on some standing/resources you can then misuse.
Sorry, for the this whole issue was a no-brainer, thats why I didn't write a long winded reasoning case of it in my first point. Guess I was mistaken.
Poking caves to summon bears is playing as designed, as if you have a coordinated group of archers you can tile your town with bearskin rugs. I've seen it done before and it's quite neat when accomplished. Now, a baby doing it is not the intended way. Which is what I was alluding to the fact that it's exploiting the system.
I think we might be miscommunication here. I've no problem with poking bears to summon them, also as a mean effect. I've a problem doing this as a 1 year old... Sorry, but a griefer should have to put a minimum effort in, like wait until he is age of 5.. and the mother had a chance to name him.
*Or* have the baby only crawl slowy until age of 3 or so. So you can't run off full speed at age of 1 to poke bears.
Starting as eve on official servers is easy, either just hardcode one of the less used servers (server[X].onehouronelife.com) in the settings, see http://onehouronelife.com/reflector/ser … ion=report for current usage) and/or keep typing "/die" until you are lineage banned for all family trees currently running, then you will be respawned as eve.
1): You are saying berries > berry pie as a food source. Where does this come from? Assuming there is actually wheat laying around (and there very often is from people making compost), berry pie is very clearly more effective than simple berries. (but just to be clear, i don't advise people to make berry pies). If your calculation implied that the pie force us to use soil for a wheat plant, keep in mind that this new wheat plant we planted will be able to be used for compost later anyways.
Because wheat requires a hoe usages and 2 soils for every wheat, while a berry bush only requires one soil.
Yes we already established that we had to take wheat and mutton as "side product" of compost generation and for this mutton pie is the most efficient, because it's exactly 1 sheep for 4 mutton for 4 pies from 1 wheat. So of course mutton pies is a must otherwise mutton or what will only pile up (as does happen often in failing towns).
There is also mutton pie generation as "side product" for replenishing baskets.
I mean what calculation is there for eggs? Aren't eggs literally free food? They just require 1 kindling, 1 stone, and plates.
*Domestic* eggs, you have to give a bowl of corn kernel to a domestic goose to get eggs.

Socially this wasn't a very interesting life, because there was very few social interaction, but game mechanically it was.
I was born in a bakery with ancient walls. Nothing unusual so far. After a while I wondered there are no other people. It's my mum, me and this city. She must have found, or her mum (which as eve).
The state of the town made me speculate what happened. There were no baskets and no berry bushes, so it was abandoned for a while, but I found one tattered backpack, so not super long also, it must have been made a few hours ago. But it disintegrated during my lifetime. There was stew, so it was not food shortage by itself. The stew nurtured us and my sister and our kids for a while. There was also grain, so I focused on making bread, luckily I found one knife, since there weren't any ingredients for pie except a few rabbits left in the bakery. The hoe was missing, so I made one. There was only one iron, so it was very inefficient in terms of firewood use, but we had plenty and we needed that hoe.
What I believe happened, a combination of griefer and noobness. The "bakery" had actually a kiln somebody turned into an oven. (I made an actual oven next to it). There were bears in the town. There was plenty of grain, so I suppose they stopped baking. Many iron tools were missing, so I suppose also the griefer had hidden them somewhere around in the forest as they do. Also no arrows or so, which shouldn't decay.
We had the stew, but we didn't have many of the natural res sources a blank eve approach would have. The banana trees in the east were picked, the grass field to the left were completely empty.
I just saw it went on for two more generation and died. My guess generation 5 again suffering from newbieness. As female I couldn't travel far but I saw still some bananas further in the east (while I was looking for berries to plant), I believe they still could have done it. Also further northwest I did find carrots (to restart the pen, my sis asked me to get food while she got the sheep).
Things I'd like to know as well, domestic eggs (I don't know how many eggs you get from a bowl of corn, didn't do that yet) and yes whole milk.
Thanks I wanted to do that but was too lazy. Since the fallen from disgrace berries have the advantage of not needing a hoe. So this is a rehabilitation of the berry? Well as you said, mutton pie is a "by product" of soil generation anyway...
Most iron is used by idiocy tough. For example once saw a dude with a shovel on the bones field digging under all bones he found. He just wasted I guess generations of lifetime that town could have lived. On the other hand, I hardly seen town fall to iron scarcity. Mostly they fall of unlucky dice getting a generation of noobs (especially if it hits the female, who don't make it to adulthood, forgetting to eat, getting killed by boars. etc)
Since children (EDIT->babies) can run as fast as you, if they run off the second they are born, there is no picking up.
Maple tree farm near town: It is basically only a one time investment and branches forever as firewood to put into kilns/forges and oven forever.
Bell towers: Okay they are done. But I've been in quite some villages that obviously already have been a while around, some of them had even the pen built out of bell tower bases.. but nobody bothered to somewhere put 2 next to each other... After all the base might live for 18 after all.
Wheat farm next to bakery. In my opinion this should be a no brainer, but no, only very few towns had the wheat farm right next to the bakery. And no it's not about water, because you can carry that one efficiently with buckets, but bowls of wheat is another story. Okay you can make a point about compost.. to be near the pen, and the compost be near the overall farm again. Anyway, way too often the wheat is planted somewhere way outside... with berries as mysterious center..
Bakers taken care of wheat: IMO bakers can take care of wheat as well... if it's next to the farm.
Nurses baking: Also this is are jobs with high synergy. You can feed children while making bread&pies and the newbies learn something different in their babyhood watching you than the usual berry-crazyness. Well at least if you have a second baker that can make the trips to get water and wheat while you as nurse work inside the bakery with the kids and babies.
Dedicated cleaner/sorter. Eggs to eggs, plates to bakery, broken tools to smithy, all carpenter stuff to one place. All tailor stuff to another. IMO this can really affect the well being of a town. (close to) useless stuff to a waste place.
Get bit as baby, kite bear better =P (had to say it because of your other thread we talked in)
Oh dear. You're right!
As much as I hate to say it, griefers are apart of the game and the game would not be as much "fun" without them. Like easy backpacks around the border of the town, someone that you feel good about killing. breaking up a griefers camp and finding all the knives and arrows. so much drama
Griefers can still poke bears. But should at least 4 years old the general age to be able to do most stuff.. Means they can pester a town with bears only every 5 minutes.
babies should just move slower IMO
Maybe. It will make motherhood with good children more difficult tough if you pop out a baby while standing in a cold biome and having a basket with valuables with you... there is no longer "follow me" to the village. Will confine mothers even more to stay all their fertile years in or close to their village. Including babyhood/childhood and elderhood you only have about 15 minutes of that hour you can freely move as woman.
EDIT:: I do agree with your PS about babies running away, I would be for babies not being able to walk on their own at first and needing an adult to move them around.
Fair enough. My issue is with babies popping out running away just as fast as an adult and poking bears within seconds... I don't care which part of that chain gets fixed. The whole chain is just wrong, though.
And yes I admit, not because I complain about a griefer, but because the griefer was I. I didn't expect it to work!
I was able to spawn over and over at the same place as long as I died of old age and made the home marker there. That's how I was able to advance the camp so much. Oh well. I learned so much about resource planning and new skills at the camp so it's sad that I lost it. Guess I'll just build a new one. Thanks!
I suggest making your own private server, top posting.
More so I just believe that anyone should be able to disturb a bear. If you get close, the bears gonna mess you up. Once features start getting removed or heavily changed for the annoying players it eventually starts bothering the normal players. I do not like the idea of babies not waking the bear and removing it because of griefers is not the solution in my opinion. A child running off and doing kid things and causing issues for the town sounds normal for me for a kid. If the town does not have bows to take down predators that wander into town, intentionally or not, then that is the fault of the town when they get wiped. Bows and arrows are not hard to make and if more people lured bears and wolves into towns maybe the meta would change to bows and arrows being made in more of an abundance and actually paid attention to, allowing people to defend the town both from intentional and random bear/wolf encounters. Hell I spawned in a bell town once and a bear killed more than half of the town because out of a town with 20+ people and crazy infrastructure, we had a single bow and only 2 arrows and nobody was attempting to craft more of either item.
Well griefers like to remove and hide all arrows they can find and while it is sensible to ask a few people to carry a knife with them, I don't see it sensible to ask people to carry 3 arrows with them...
PS Running a far way as a baby is not realistic. As a child. Fair enough, no issue... but at least have hair until then!
The nature of online games is that every feature that can help people who just want to play it as designed can be used in some way to grief, and there are people who will exploit it for that purpose.
How is poking bears as baby in anyway "play it as designed"?
You can do NOTHING as baby until you grow hair. Nothing. you can't even pick a berry, nothing. But you can poke on one of the major dangers ... Really just pop out of the mum, run in a direction, and if you see a bear cave poke it. You likely don't even have a name yet to be cursed, and most people don't run behind runaway children... why should you? Otherwise it's just someone who wants to suicide and doesn't know about /die...
The curse is we don't care? I don't get it... Maybe we should also remove the curse system then to help griefers, because it is an online game.
Suggested solution: pregnancy (45 seconds make it proper
)
This also solves other issue. The mother sees she is pregnant and has some time to prepare (like stopping a horse chart, I was for example one dropped out at the back of a horse likely without the mother realizing...).
The new player get already to see the surroundings* and a "miscarriage" button. If they click, they simply get to the next mum (instead of having to runaway suicide and if they are mean even poke a bear). The experienced player gets to type /die which includes a lineage ban.
* Seeing black but only hearing would be more realistic, but given it's a game and it allows people to less infant suicide...
PS: Might even give the mother to /no ... to make it a miscarriage.. (penalizing her tough)
Well yeah, but /die lineage bans you (usually). Running away means you can spawn back into the family anyway/
I know, but the mother gets penalized for it. That was the issue PapaSmurf raised.
If there would be "sudden infant death" button for newbies that just kills you, but without penalizing the mother but also without lineage ban, since they don't know what it entails, would be helpful.
There is no reason /die could stay nevertheless, for players who know, what it means.
Since server 13 is hardly used the eve spiral is likely very small and you start quite close to your previous base. On my private server I always spawn within 1 minute of walking distance to my base. However only since I know in what direction to walk since I can see my absolute cords in the log of the server. So unless you happen to find it by walking in a spiral yourself, no way to refind it.
I don't get it how this helps anybody but griefers...
What? You don't think an unsupervised child should be able to do that kind of damage?
Babies poking bear caves has been in the game a long time. I doubt it's going to be removed.
Yes, you cannot pickup something heavy as a berry... but you can poke a bear...
Also the new bug is mosquitoes bites that make you immune to any injury. (I think it was fixed?)
Mosquitoes used to heal wounds. They don't any longer. However as I read this, now as long as you have yellow fever, you are immune to injury. I don't see this helpful tough, it's not like I'm planning to get wounded..
