sometimes i wish tarr was the one developing ohol

It's not starvation that always kills civilizations. What I noticed often is people killing eachother, SIDs and too few births
This suggests that yum matters more than food efficiency. Clothing also matters.
It suggests that demographics specially fertility matter more, Yum is just one component of it and leaving fires out of this comment is problematic as fire is the easiest way to get a 0.5 fertility (yes you still need to compete with yummers)
other than fertility we have age, gender, pop size and death as demographics, dont try to (again) justify yum with incomplete information (specially to new players)
Guess what? people not drinking milk also wont eat other unknown foods, keeping a lower yum. Learning one food is easier than 10, right?
Food education is eating good foods, keeping yum when appropriate, making the mentioned good foods all of which should be taught.
But yes, late game food efficiency becomes less and less of a factor exactly because it becomes so absurdly easy to be efficient with pies and milk that its hardly a target for selection
The thing is: Pigs dont make good food at all.
while sheep make good food, thread, and dung for compost
because cows need a lot of buckets -but are OP-, dogs do nothing and pigs suck (support me on convincing jason to make them poop)
mostly its sheep that do everything, cows only being good because milk is the best food
oh boo some stranger doesnt want to play with you
stop trying to coerce people into playing in places they dont want to.
rules are currently "dont piss us off by being a jerk too often".
find it fair tbh
The thing with boards Spoon is that when you have big farms without spaces you make it harder on people picking berries for compost.
This adds up in poorly mantained, cluttered farms and when composting en masse. So boards prevent people from covering spaces.
Its definitely a micro issue, but one that helps many players over time.
pein wrote:a proper board floor makes compost makes much faster
Boards do NOT decrease the time for composting compost to complete composting.
Also, often enough the first soil can get brought from a soil pit before compost completes.
People can also usually build more crops on the other sides of the wooden floors. Such flooring does NOT block off expansion. And if you want to expand, growing bushes on the tiles directly adjacent to the boards probably ends up as the optimal thing to do.
he didnt say it does, its all about picking berries faster
easily exploitable though

Yes, but people will most often feed lambs for the extra res.
Why is it so hard for you to understand that not everyone plays optimally in big server which causes chaos? And tbh, the best thing IS to feed lambs, get dung, make compost, if you want to produce the most resources.
I'm not saying you cant do it, even make a pen for just one immoveable sheep, i'm saying that people won't stop overfeeding sheep if that gives us a ton of different uses.
So I talked about not getting poop. How do you infer I thought anything about people getting optimally from that? Not getting poop isn't optimal.
Also, the one immovable sheep (I've checked now... immovable sheep without wool will regrow their wool if fed, but won't produce dung) does work. I don't see anything optimal in terms of resources. You can get a bunch of fleece that way, but you get 4 mutton meat maximum, and zero poop. That could be from 200 bowls of berries and carrots for all I know.
its optimal only in the sense of not making more clutter which i assumed was what you referred to. You can avoid clutter, but you miss on resources which to me isnt worth it
also
i am against any points system in OHOL
it will make the game gameythe most strong point of OHOL is it's simulating life
there is no actual points or achievements while living- - -
agreed
if you have to get bored in a game for its content to have use then its a pretty shitty game

That's exactly the point. You need six sheeps to make nest. So, if somebody wants to catch them, he is making six dungs. Buff to wool produce would also address this issue.
In my last life I was tailoring and teaching how to do it. I've made quite a lot of shit this time and this was basically all I could do, so tedious it was.

yes, but each time you do feed sheep you also get food and dung, if any end up in shortage you may end up overproducing another
There wasnt a poo pocolipse before the new cloths wool production is the issue
people starded complaining about dung when Jason changed shorn sheep feeding. The issue however became much worse with clothes (and even shrimp).
but tbh, overfeeding has been happening ever since people started to mass aprons. People complaining of mutton pies being too strong and cheap is actually what resulted in Jason making yum, it was already noticeable that all sheep's products were cheap since we'd feed sheep for compost anyway. Now it's changed, it is indeed wool causing overfeeding but that is only possible because sheep also drop dung and food.
Redram wrote:That's a separate issue from the 'poop apocalypse', and easily addressed in other ways that have nothing to do with poop.
I strongly disagree. Poop is produced after shearing, we shear them too much. Only because amount of wool from one sheep is so low. I suggested to increase this amount about TEN TIMES, which would lead to ten times less poo.
thats not true as people may still mass produce fot stuff like shrimps. A buff without a nerf may break sheep even more.
It sounds great indeed, to make every animal produce only one main product and meat after killing. But still, making clothes is tedious and repetitive. I still would buff it.
it could probably get a buff if pigs started pooping, that'd be a heavy nerf tbh, but a good one
should i make a post on this?
The poop issue comes from clothing crafting. It would be better to boost amount of fleece/ball of threads per sheep, as it would fix two belows:
1. Excess of poop
2. Tedious, repetitive sheep feeding and shearing
no, any form of sheep overfeeding results in this. People may even make more thread if it becomes cheaper.
Sheep can't just do everything.
Guys, maybe focus on decaying and trash for now. This is important so please don't derail it.
people want shenanigans and forget how simple changes make the game better
Bears and wolves exist, and dogs can get made.
yeah, that's a solution fir clutter, useless moving clutter
Things need to decay for balance. It sucks for singleplayer but towns with everything are boring AF
I think we could work on the idea though, at least make some biome combinations a bit better
Is decay random? If I leave 10 rabbit fur loin cloths sitting on the ground will the all decay at the same time, or will they fail at random some sooner than others?
decay is based on timers for each item
Jason responded this before, not feasible, specially techtrees
Ya true, I guess that way you only need one food type for each, since they'd each have one product that doesn't require them to be killed, and one that does. Which gives players the control they'd need.
also relevant for balancing sheep

Clothes should also decay (the new ones should last very long though and dyeing should reset timers). I think 8 hours is probably fine.
For storage options we could get wardrobes and dining tables, both impassable and storing at least 5 items.
Things cannot just become easily stackable indefinitely, but tech based storage + decay help balance this. Ty for the post Tarr, Id hate to see another update making easy stacks with no drawback.
