So I was in a very large town (currently largest I believe) and I gave birth to triplet daughters. At first I really wanted to just abandon, but then everybody around me told me off to take care of my kids and I should name then and so on. Well okay, so I fed them, gave them names and told them twice that I will raise them, but they must not to suicide when one of them dies. Then after my life was over (murdered by another griefer*, sigh), I looked at the family tree and exactly this happened, at the age of 20 one of them got killed (also griefer or rightfully avenged/stopped I don't know) and the other two died a minute later to starvation (obviously suicide).
That was the last straw, never again will I raise twins or even more and people can tell me off about that what they want. I won't even just abandon them, but take one and bring him somewhere far into a desert/icesheet. I have had it with that friends login, almost always makes more damage than good.
* About griefer murder. Really when a bell town got more than one family tree, this is awesome for the town. What goes on in peoples sick brains coming up with the idea over and over again they take it as their life mission to kill everyone from the other family line... OHOL is a cool game by itself, but this are the reasons why I'm overthinking to go back to my decision to never play an online game again...
Still not the most effective things. If you really want to learn it... just try to be a productive citizen for a few days, you will notice which things drive you nuts... either maliciously by actual griefers or unintentionally evil by noobs.
Love the new stack-pickup feature! It really saves a lot of time.
Do you think it'll be possible to build wooden tables? It could serve as a means to store/hold every type of prepared food, since they don't stack (omelets, or bowls of cooked food). It could be easier to organize everything if could hold more than the amount of pies baskets can hold.
Then again I suppose wooden boxes serve that purpose, but such an object like table could add to the variety.

I'd argue the discovery microorganisms cause communicable disease moved us into the modern age. It led not only to antibiotics, but also vaccines and public health systems (water sanitation, sewage disposal, food safety, etc.). Until 60-70 years ago, the top 3 causes of death were infectious diseases.
Fair enough, I'd agree also a major factor, also instead of drilling peoples head open due to a stupid idea of unbalance in fluids.
I've yet to see a town where there was nothing left to do. Everyone being fully clothed, having backpacks, having lots of carts with tires, having a dedicated building for all important industry and roads that stretch almost indefinitely in every direction, where after a while another town would create a civilization network? Nope. Also so often for bigger towns I see signs of griefer work trying to bring it down, more often than necessary successfully, so there is also always detective work needed at hand.
Generally I'd like to see a little more pause than all this hectic running around for food from birth to death, trying to keep the compost cycle alive, getting important resources, but anyway, the issue of boredom never occurred to me in a single town I've been to.
I just wondering, killing a bear does that destroy two arrows?
(That may be a reason why towns often harrased by a griefer, which also like releasing any bear caves in sight get low on arrows very fast).
In my opinion having some bow&arrows around is for common defense more effective than knifes. However I've seen it again and again, a pile bows but no arrows to be seen...
Industrial revolution is a complicated matter and as I remember from the one or or other term paper I wrote on the subject if you investigate closer the real reasons are less in steam and steel than other reasons.
One major factor for example was three and later four field crop rotation that drastically increased farming output yielding much less workers in agriculture could feed a larger population freeing work resources. Thus also yielding in people leaving the countryside where they are no longer needed and concentrating in cities, where industry took up even if most work was done manual at first.
Other reasons include development of the "company" as social concept, discovery of the advantage of division of labor contrary, pushing back of guilds as controlling institutions, political developments (realizing that mercantilism is stupid, urging for less short sighted political interventionism). Also the "first born gets all" inheritance system in Britain may have helped in getting critical capital accumulation.
Oh yes and I almost forgot probably the most important things that allowed modern industrial revolution, big cities, etc: discovery of penicillin.
Sorry, I just felt rambling about this topic, because it is so interesting.
lineage ban kicks in after 30 minutes of cesecutive playtime in one family
For example you play for 12 minutes and die because of a bear or wolf
you respawn and after you played another 18 minutes the ban kicks in.
so yea you cant keep suiciding to stay in the same fam
Ok, this good news. So that griefer may have had his second life, but at least wouldn't go on forever.
Well since the lineage died out one hour after above incident, he likely killed the town anyway tough...
Issue
So yesterday I realized (story below) that if you keep suiciding under 30 you can get yourself reborn over and over again in the same lineage right away, just /die all other lineages on the server. This is especially useful/misused by griefers, you constantly have a new name, so a lot of "oopsing this was an accident lies" don't add up, and you can even give yourself your equipment to your next childhood, just suicide a little outward and if your are not really unluckly as soon your next life you can grab things, grab something to eat and head out to get your stuff from the previous griefing live.
Also cursing someone to donkeytown doesn't work in practice as long the griefer doesn't go on a murder rampage. Keep sheering the last sheep? Maybe 1 person notices... that person telling others it's also only word against word. Same with keep hiding tools / weapons, cutting down juniper trees etc. All the mean stuff.
Suggestions
If curser and cursed person are from the same lineage, even one curse should include a 90 minute lineage ban even if cursed person dies below 30.
If killer and killed are from the same lineage, also this should result in a 90 lineage ban even if killed person was below 30.
The Story
Yesterday was in old town of server 2. It already exists a few days and was my forth life there, albeit it were also four families that settled there. Well as child I noticed already the farm dieing off, and there were a few "wet compost" piles, but dung missing. So I made a berry/carrot bowl and went to the pen and noticed, some "idiot" had shoren all sheep. Well annoying but just feed the bowl to a shown sheep and get a new one to actually make dung. As I came back again all sheep were shorn. That made me really annoyed screaming "Why shear all last sheep". Some kid (well equiped) said "needed wool" (already the hypocrite griefer as I later found out). Well this is were I decided to investigate, I got a third bowl and since carrots already were all gone I had to go to far prairies to grap a wild carrot. I fed a sheep, grabbed a pie and hid behind the bell tower... Then that kid came obviously noticed me looked interestingly how to walk there and went again. After a few minutes I realized, ok griefer realized I'm guarding this now. So instead of hiding in the pen, I went to a different strategy, walked somewhat outside and zoomed out with that modded client. Lo and behold it wasn't even a full minute again a well equipped kid came and shore that sheep I fed. I cursed him right away. Zooming out in a lively city makes everything hard tough, as the client gets really slow and laggy. Even disconnected. Anyway he got at least one curse and I decided to kill him also. Well as usual with an active griefer no arrows to be found and he must have gotten rid of the free knifes as well. So I went to make an arrow. Remembering from my carrot trip there were also some milkweed got there to make a thread, put down tied skewer in city to attach a head, some other well equipped kid "accidently" took my half made arrow and carried away, again thanks to zoom out I was able to see where they took it and just grabbed it again. At that point I didn't yet realize it was the same player in the next life, I was still focusing on finding the person that I cursed earlier on for griefing. Well while I was making my arrow that kid came with bow&arrow (he got somewhere, albeit I looked everywhere in town) and "accidently" shooted me going hypocrite "oops". Well I called him out that this was certainly no mistake he realized I was investigating and arming so he killed me (and I was over 30 so had a lineage ban). At least some other citizen with a knife stabbed him for it. At least that griefer got rid from his current equipment before likely just kept doing it with his next rebirth...
I've been toying with the idea of appointing a sheriff. Give him a backpack with a knife and an arrow, and tell him to go hog wild on PKs and griefers, and explain to berry locusts how to eat adult food, and also tell them to groom a replacement to keep the system going. It should actually be a pretty busy life at a well developed base.
I wouldn't have the patience or interest to do that for an hour, but you could probably find someone who's willing.
But who watches the guards?
Okay, stealing all iron tools and hiding them is a common griefing tactic.
All towns I've seen so far had no to little security precautions regarding this. Despite it would be so hard. Leave space for a common town center on a desert edge. Raise children there. So the nurse(s) and the children could be guards at the same time. Put boxes there and suggest every constructive town member to bring back each and every iron tool after usage into the central boxes. Someone might go away with one or two, but nobody will be able to take all of them even one by one without raising suspicion.
Next to that would city walls with most iron using industry in it. However walls are expensive and I have yet to see a city that would be old enough to have this feasible. The one gate should again be nursery....
Got any other ideas?
Noob guide next please. "How to be a noob". Some people might just start too experienced...
positive forces? you mean the bunch of noobs who eat what others produce?
I'd consider those neutral.
Also, have you any idea of how many rape simulations people will make if there is a mechanic of grabbing others?
Okay, thats a horrible idea that didn't even come to my mind...
I agree with your general idea, but i think th best solution would be a disarming system with a club or something.
Also fine. Whatever variation works, the basic idea is, a bunch of people should be able to stop one person without much dedicated hightech stuff (and yes this includes an bow&arrow)
Well it's just a backhanded complaint against noobs.
but there would have to be some loss for the decision so that it wouldn't be too easy... like a cut rope gives you three threads.
Well you use up the knife a bit... (pay the iron price)
I would love to see random RESPAWNS of those non renewable food plants in their biomes. Not a lot, but enough that if you let a century pass
I read any areas that are not seen by a player for one real week are reset to their natural random seed based generation state including reset of wild carrots, bananas etc.
Since 1 hour is 60 years. This would not be a century but 10.000 in game years. And a single player striving through would reset the timer...
IMO there client simply should be able to handle two beacons. Home marker set and the last bell heared or "whistle".
whistle: would be something mobile with a limited reach (500 tiles maybe? even 250 would be fair). PS: And please makeable with flint/sharprocks/wood/clay whatever as long no need of iron.
Yes a self picked middlename would be cool! (wouldn't inherit it, and yes it could be used mostly as a job desc announcement)
Please put it on reddit suggestions.
bananas are over as they do no longer respawn at all, only useful at the very first settlement start.
I've already seen the change in meta. Before settlement on jungle edge were very common, now they are build far away again mostly on swamp/desert edges.
Vexenie, a reasonable discuss able point. But the issue still stands, a griefer getting first rid of weapons can still harm the village considerable without murdering but them only being able to stand by watch them do it, albeit a large number of people should easily be able to stop a single one with use of force, even without having to carry knifes...
I prefer to classify them based on size and tech level.
The amount of lineages in a city/network determines the amount of players it gets, so it's a major factor. Especially since you have a fair chance to be reborn into a city despite (temporary) lineage-ban
Since the Eve spiral recently got smaller maybe there is more chance to see more than isolated villages
It's a lot easier if non griefers can improves a (poor) weapon out of most tools (shovels, hoes, poles, hatchets, etc) which ought to have some ill effect if you hit someone with them. Griefers are normally a small minority who are disproportionately empowered by the fact that weaponless people are literally as defenseless as babies.
Realistically, they shouldn't be able to hide/hold the knives, then fight down an entire town as they can do now. As it stands a dozen able bodied adults with agricultural impliments are helpless before one with a knife, which just shouldn't be the case. It doesn't reflect the realities of stone age societies at all.
Yes, well basically a stone or stick could do it... But yes you got the intention, it just doesn't make sense that a vast majority of people can't overpower a single person when they rid the knifes and arrows first.
Then whats the difference of just having a weapon to kill said griefer? You mention it wouldn't be so hard to get their hands on a knife, same goes for everyone else then.
Dude, please, PLEASE read my original post with a minimum of mental attention again.
