Haven't read the entire three pages of this thread so I dunno if anyone brought this up already, but if it would be possible to wall in babies and keep them from going out into the wilderness 'til they're old enough, would it also be possible to trap people indefinitely? That sounds like a step toward making jails possible. And also dictatorships, where the dictator keeps everyone from leaving. Until said dictator is removed from the picture, anyway. Unless everyone on the access list can allow/disallow access.

I dunno if what I read was true or not, but I did read somewhere that the game takes place post-apocalypse. I think. I could'a dreamed about reading it. Wouldn't be the first time I've mixed up dreams with reality. Anyway, along that vein, why would the hat have to be magical? It could be some kind'a left-over nanotech from civilization before it fell, supposing that civilization was further along than ours is. Maybe it could be fueled by some rare mineral so it's not so op, so once it runs outta juice someone has to go find more.

Regardless, more hats is never a bad thing.

Hats are life.

I'm hesitant to make the max life longer than 60 minutes.  The game does what it says on the tin.  2HOL is boring, to me.  It's just too long.  I could make it shorter, by default, and then family lines living longer could "unlock" full lifetimes closer to 60.  So, 40 is the default, and after your family lives 24 hours, it goes up to 50.  And then at 48 hours, it goes up to 60.  But 40 itself is "long enough."  I'm not sure the extra time really matters, or is a strong enough incentive.

Oooh. What if, in that case, age was somehow tied to technology instead of time? Like, in the beginning, it's 40. But rather than the limit moving up after time passes, instead it's once a certain piece of technology is present in an area, everyone that moves into its range is bumped up to a max of 50, and so on? Like how technology in real life has extended our lifespans?

Oof, now I'm imagining people going on pilgrimages to those big towns with the life-extending tech for the sole purpose of living longer. But if those technologies were somehow tied to one lineage, and if touched by another ceased being applied to that fam and applied itself to the fam of whoever did the touching, I could see that causing some family feuds. The low-tech people with the shorter lifespans vying for the life-extending tech owned and controlled by the people who can live 'til 60, taking up arms to hopefully take control of it. Though every family would be able to make that same technology, making it a non-issue, unless the resource(s) needed for those specific life-extending things was/were very sparse.

Even a life where you are murdered can be a fun one.

While I can't speak for everyone, I have yet to have a fun life that ended in getting murdered. It's usually an obnoxious and annoying inconvenience that makes me want to stop playing.

Of course, griefers tend to murder me when I'm a kid. Every time I've been murdered thus far has been before I could pick up a weapon of my own. Every time some freak running amok with a knife has followed me thus far has also been while I'm a kid.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

D and E and also culling excess sheep and other knifey tasks or if I know where a nosaj is and I'm a fertile chick, it's being used to get an endstone. I like those pretty red stones.

Checking back on my lineage, my first two children lived into their fifties and Mary Winchester has nine children, one of whom lived to 59 years old ... but sadly, none of the girls made it to adulthood so the line died out at the third generation.

It pleases me to know that my line lived on past my death although I'm sad that I couldn't find the settlement in my twilight years.  It would have been an exciting reunion and the rabbits I was carrying may have helped.

Oh damn, I think I was Dean Winchester. Or Sam? I dunno which one, but I remember having a sis named Mary and we went around looking for you until we decided to settle someplace. After Mary got too old to have kids she decided to go out looking for you. Sad to know she never found you. :c

edit// to actually add to the discussion: yeah, it's easy to survive a famine. I was in a village once where the farmed berry bushes ran out of berries to sustain compost, but there were plenty of full wild bushes just a little south to re-kickstart the process. And barely anyone touched the stew for some reason? Or the person cooking it kept it well stocked enough that I never noticed an empty crock pot.

When food gets scarce I usually go out into the world unless given a specific task that few other people are doing ie. composting or farming. Life is easier out and about. ?

I'm not playing any different than I was before. Upon reaching a comfortable age I had a tendency to go out and scavenge for things to bring back to camp--missing plates and bowls, iron, abandoned carts, miscellaneous items from abandoned villages, clothing, 'shrooms; whatever I could get my hands on--usually naked unless I found something along the way or was given something as a bebe, so I haven't really noticed the temperature changes. I think the only real difference is that I don't go through deserts or jungles as much unless I have food on me, usually just a basket minus one slot for a sharp stone, to stave off the faster drain or the temp shock.

...I've also been able to survive just fine as a kiddo in an Eve camp, even after the Eve has died early or after I've gotten lost so long as I'm able to pick stuff up. Twice now I've been left with a sibling in the wild, young and naked and without a mum; the first time we both made it over 40 and we all died out because there were no surviving fertile women in neither our camp nor our long lost mother's camp; the second time I died to yellow fever while bringing back bananas to my sister, who'd been feeding the kiddos at the fire we made. I think if it weren't for the mosquitoes we could have lasted for a while. Maybe.

tl;dr i spent most of my time naked and outside of the jungle/desert meta anyway so i haven't really noticed a change
