Instruments would be a nice addition to the game
A drum from animal skin, a bone flute, a warhorn from mouflon horn and a wooden didgeridoo or any instrument you can think about.

I think it would be fun to jam around ,but I can see how it can get annoying pretty fast lmao
Perhaps the horn can be used to alarm a village when a murder happened.

Really neat ideas c: ! Also Kittens would be hella dope lol
I'm not sure if we would be capeable of making glass jars ,but we could definitly make wooden ones. Or form naturally accuring glass into a jar form big_smile

jars.png
They can be used to store berry jam to apply to bread. Or perhaps something else.

barrel.png
Barrels could be used to catch water from rain ,but I thought about making wine with it instead.

wine.png
Grape Vines can be planted and harvested by crafting a trelli and planting it into fertile soil. Grapes then can be eaten just like that , made into jam or prepared to make alcoholic bevarages.

So I drawn some of my ideas of imaginary ideas that might be added or something along those lines.

If you have any cool ideas you want to see visually, then post them below and I'll draw them. Though I probably won't draw every idea as they might get repeated .

i think seals and fish are great, maybe penguins but they'd have to drop the eggs somehow, or have a cooldown, otherwise we could just get tons of eggs from one. it just does not make much sense yet to settle on cold biomes, even with food. maybe if more valuable resources get added there.

By offering more varienty, perhaps people won't see themselves forced in the same job every life or maybe it will give them more room as where to settle down.
Yeah, the penguin eggs need to be kinda limitated. I think a cooldown seems really fitting

I suggest that the indicator for a caught fish should be that the fishing pole should have a sharp bend to it, like it's flexing to keep the fish attached, instead of just a fish next to the ice hole.

I tried to animate this idea of yours big_smile Perhaps if you leave the rod unattented for too long ,it snaps and makes it unuseable - or repairable.

Penguin eggs are a weird idea, considering how protective penguins are of their eggs.  But the fact that we see individual penguins is, in and of itself, super weird.  Penguins are not solitary animals.

I'm all for new food sources, but say no to penguin. Giant yes to ice fishing.

Yeah, penguins seem a bit odd in game :b I don't think they have any purpose right now ?

I think villages rely on the same food. Berries for children, Stew and Pie for Adults. They are rather easy to make ,so it makes sense.

But I think the Tundra Biome really didn't get much love. So I drawn a few ideas for food that could be found in the Tundra Biome.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

1. Penguin Egg

My first guess were penguin eggs, but I wasn't sure if they were edible. Apperently they are- and they look rather odd.

Penguin males wander around with their partners egg inbetween their legs - so I figured you won't just see them laying around.

pin.png

I'm not sure if you need to kill a penguin to steal its egg. I mean .. It's a penguin. Perhaps just click on it and yeet it.

egg23.png

cookegg.png
To make the huge egg edible you need to boil it. So we need A Bowl of Salt water and get it to simmer.

egg.png
Dump the boiled egg onto a plate and it will just auto-peel itself.

Unlike the geese eggs we eat, Penguin eggs white remains semi-translucent when boiled. ( http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff-nation/ass … -sensation )

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Fishing

I think a few have already thought about this. Making a fishing rod out of a Long straight shaft , some Thread and a flint . You would need to attach bait to your now makeshift rod - which could be worms.

fish.png
Shadows in Ice hole indicate that fish can be fished in here. Perhaps they get depleted once 5 fish have been caught. Some time has to pass before fish will respawn.

fisch.png
You can now attach your newly made fishing rod to the Icehole and wait. Just alike a snare and hares.

idea-animation2.gif
Keep your eyes on the rod. Eventually something gets caught. Interacting with the rod gives you salmon. If you leave the rod unattented for too long, it snaps. Making it unuseable - or perhaps just repairable.

drop.png
Like mentioned above, it will take time for fish to respawn after depleting the source.

fishc.png
Put the Salmon onto a plate and cut it with a flint to receive Cut Salmon. Which can be baked on a hot adobe oven. or perhaps cooked in water ?

fishsoup.png
Maybe the salmon can be used in Creamy smoked salmon soup by adding ( cut ) potatoes and fish.

Perhaps you have anything else new to add. I would love to know !

Not bad, but easier to get than even a sheep. Maybe wolf pup yelps when collared which agros adult wolves within a certain radius, so you have to clear the area of wolves first, or have backup with a bow ready.

Another possible use for tamed dogs: Feed it some meat and that spot becomes "home" it will then roam around and chase any loose livestock it sees towards home.

Rather than killing or chasing away wild animals they should bark at them to alert people. They could also follow and bark at murderers if they witness someone in murder cooldown...

Yeah, I think the dog should be a mid-game Pet. A village close to badlands and bear caves would love these big_smile

A murder alert would be useful as well. No more sneak killing hunters lol

I think a lot of people have already thought that taming a wolf will eventually become a feature within OHOL.

I figured I draw my ideas out here and share them with you. I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas as well !

__________________________________________________________________________________________

1. Location

According to the International Wolf Center , Wolf pups don't follow their mother around and don't leave their den until they are 8-16 weeks old. ( https://www.wolf.org/wolf-info/basic-wo … velopment/ )

So I figured you don't have to use the old "Shoot-the-mom-take-the-kid" method. Instead you can find Wolf-Dens around the Bad lands.

Den.png
Currently it is empty.

den_2.png
Seeing two eyes glow in the darkness indicate a puppy inside the den  ( and mother probably not too far away )
___________________________________________________________________________________________
1.2 Taming

By interacting with the den with a rope, you scoop out a puppy.
caught.png

dog2.png
That puppy grows into a tamed wolf that can be feed with mutton and shows no aggression towards human as long as it is kept fed. Eventually the wolf will get puppies of their own.

baby.png
I figured I give the tamed wolf a collar ,so people don't mistake it for a wild wolf. ( Though I must admit that the collar is barely visible lol )

dog1.png
It is going to remain at his mother side until his diet changes from milk to meat. Or perhaps you need milk to tame it - making the wolf a much late-game Pet.

dog3.png

Making a Collar will enable naming the pet and binding it to your human ( not quite physically though ,it just follows you around )

_________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Purpose

I figured the purpose of a tamed wolf would perhaps be keeping danger away from the village by "Shooing" away bears. A lot of kids that suicide or adults/teens that don't want to continue their lives often run off and sometimes stumble upon bear caves. For whatever reason, they decide to lead the bear into the city. A wolf would prevent this by not letting the bear roam around the village but rather shooe it away, causing the bear to retreat into the cave.

I tried to search if a wolf would be able to kill a hog ,but apperently it would require more than one and the boar needs to be weak,so I figure they can only chase them away from the village.

I'm not quite sure how the wolf route would end up and how he'd know where to be ,but perhaps the dog could be bound to some person - as in, the wolf follows his owner around.

Attacking dog.

• Chasing away bears
• Killing Rattlesnakes
• Chasing away Boars.
• Perhaps Hunt ?

Whenever I get born into a big civilization,I wonder what job I will be assigned but most of the time I never had to do anything.
Food is abundant, resources are everywhere and so are people.
Most of the time I find myself tending to the huge neglected berry farms or getting resources. It's no fun.

I always want myself to be the child of an Eve. It's way more fun to be able to create.

What is your opinion on being born into a big civilization ?
Do you prefer being an Eve child ?

Seth Lita

He was born to busy village baker Goddess Lita and got taken care of in between baking bread, pies and so on. He did not mind. He grew up without any other children around ,but as soon as he entered childhood he gotten a little brother. He and Jay didn’t really talk that much though. Seth wasn’t exactly ambitious. In fact, most people would have described him as lazy.
Seth never really pursued any occupation. He was all about in the village : Helped at the farm, getting grain for the bakery , planting vegetables for stew , taking care of the sheeps and so on. Like his absent job , Seth never really even tried starting a family - which he regretted later in life.
He was helping out one his cousins to get a snare and when he had returned, there was Billy Lita shouting angrily at his cousin. Billy accused his cousin of stealing a horse and Seth wanted to settle the dispute and offered to find the horse. He packed up and made his way east to find  the horse. Biggest mistake. On his way there, Billy and grandfather had caught up with him. Billy had shoot him with a bow from behind, demanding the horse. Seth didn’t understand and puzzled ,enraged. He cursed Billy before passing away.

#41 Re: Main Forum » What to do? » 2018-08-11 21:48:21

I believe you can simply get back into the tutorial when you died. You have the option for Tutorial ( at the upper right corner ) whenever you have died, at the same screen that offers to be reborn.

I'd urge to use the / command to search for recipees ,like /steel ax. Otherwise, It's fun to mess around with the last part of the tutorial - and more so what awaits you when you finish the  tutorial and get out.

#42 Re: Main Forum » What to do? » 2018-08-11 21:38:33

I think the easiest job would be berry farmer. You'll have easy access to food and keep food flowing.
All you have to do is : Get Fertile Soil with a basket made out of Reed, Put Fertile soil down on slightly darker Berry bushes and then water them.

Most of the time, the settlement would like a forager. Someone who fetches the town stuff they need. Example : Iron for the Smith.

But I think to figure out some concept, I would recommend the tutorial and stick until the end. At the very end of the tutorial you'll have to figure out how to make a Steel ax - so that's fun big_smile

Don't worry about being slow and learning. I think all players were there at some point.

I decided to draw yet another Character : Adore Elm.

Her mother had left her to another mother taking care of most of the kids at the village. The women has named her and kept her fed,but after reaching childhood Adore couldn't find her around anymore. She decided to help out the farm and kitchen by venturing out to find beans. Upon returning, she tended the farm and helped to make compost. Eventually, Adore reached adulthood and she spend most of her time taking care of her children and those around. She had several kids of her own.
Eventually a bear had found its way into the settlement and cut down Adore - The village rushed to kill the bear ,but it was too late for Adore. She died to the inflicted injury.
