Its less tips and more a perspective on the unscalable heights they would need to reach to pull off anything with an impact. They would need a server as large or larger than the one this website runs on. Plus a program that targets its inefficiencies to actually crash it. Even then it would only crash the server for a moment before it would reboot and perform as normal. They would need to hammer the website with the same program over and over which would likely put a huge strain on the server they are using for the attack. So they would need something serious to pull this off long term. Not something a hobbyist can keep in their house, i mean maybe but they would need some serious capital. Something like 10k users maybe. Not easy to do and if jason is smart, or at least cautious, he will have put a cap on users so the server doesnt crash. This may block out real users like us accessing the forums for a little while but it will give jason time to resolve the problem. All my point is is that its an unwinnable situation for who ever might try to attack this place. Unlike the game itself, we dont pay to use the forums. Jason doesnt lose money or get hurt by it not functioning properly. In a sense only the regular users and readers get hurt by this. And for what? We dont get to annoy each other on here for a day or two? Big woop. Unlike the game, damaging this website has almost not monetary impact on jason. He could shut this place down for good if he wanted and it would probably save him money.
And wow back down to 66 users again...
And now 236...
And now 62 within like 5 min..
Easy to call this flux bs at this point.
So we hit 246 guests. This feels abnormal. I want to think this is real people reading threads but the view counts don't correlate. Mods be wary of a potential ddos. Seems like a similar program. Spikes 100-200 people but cant get much beyond that.
To whoever may be trying this. It will likely take thousands of "guests" refreshing pages constantly to crash this site. I doubt you have the server to pull that off. Maybe if you had thousands of accounts posting at the same time it might work. But good luck pulling that off. Would only likely force a reboot and the website would be back online in a matter of minutes. Would need to cycle the same program over and over. At that point it wouldn't be hard to isolate the accounts and remove them.
Lol.
Been missing you gomez. You're a saucy bastard but a life saver when it counts.
Still playing?
I dont think it takes many brain cells to see that destiny. Though i think continuing this pointless argument will only result in more quoted posts picking apart word choices that are easily understandable in their intent. By this point its very clear its less about the words or rhetoric chosen and more about the need to argue about the words and rhetoric chosen. Instead of feeding the fire of "things to quote" lets just move on. What was the point of this anyway? I respect your inclination to defend yourself but we have to focus on results. Feeding this pointless argument is only going to perpetuate it. Best we can do is reduce its ability to further propagate and try to get back on course towards the intent of this thread. Or at least towards a discussion that is rewarding to more than one party.
Dude seriously.
Alright destiny. If spoons going to continue down this path and ignore our reasoning and point of view why dont we just do the same.
Lets get back to the real subject of this post. Multifamily towns. I didnt play much during the early days of race restrictions so im not super familiar with how multifamily towns worked beyond hearing the complaints about them becoming monotonous. If you have any input on that, or anyone else, I'de be curious to hear it.
It seemed like the entire server became super cities with every family living there. If a family died someone would quickly move them back there. As far as i know this resulted in killing variable progression and early game. Eventually the town would become so barren it was insanely dangerous to venture outside. Over time the oil supply would dry out and the cities would collapse, only to be replaced by another to the west. Late game resources would be shuffled in a similar way that they are now and early to mid game was all but dead.
Thank you race restrictions, very cool.
Anyway i want to hear others experiences during this weird time in the games history.
This is just beyond ridiculous and if you dont see why I cant help you. This is the second thread you have complete diverted from the subject to go off on some rant. You're arguing for yourself, not anyone else. Learning to let these kind of things go will help you, I promise. Words are words, we get to choose the ones we use. If you have a problem with destiny's list, make your own. Choose the wording you think is correct. Be a productive member of the active discussion instead of throwing everything off into a pointless argument about semantics.
Arguments are not about purely thinking you're right or convincing the other person they're wrong. The most important people in a debate are not the participants, but the audience. Arguing for the sake of "winning" or to the point the other person gives up or backs off makes someone look brutish. It makes someone look narrow minded and stuck in their ways. Which i think we can all agree are not good selling points if we're trying to convince people of our point of view. The fact you cant see how you're being is what makes you look like a fool. Have some pride and some respect for destiny's intentions. This behavior has become beyond annoying. You used to fight for something, now it seems you only fight for the sake of fighting.
Seriously this doesnt matter. We all understood what destiny meant. I'm not sure what's with your eagerness to argue and berate people for the littlest things lately. You gotta chill dude. There are way more important things and way bigger things to argue about than destiny not being specific enough for you. You made your point, it bothers you, now drop it. You're not going to convince anyone you're right and you're just making a fool of yourself. Destiny has the right to express herself however she wants on here.
True that. Though i dont think the game can support upwards of 80 in its current state.
Interesting how the forums are getting such a big spike but not the game itself. 40 seems pretty low for a weekend during a sale though.
Its rare to see the forums go over 100 let alone 200+
Hopefully we see some new faces soon. Been missing the old levels of activity here.
Wouldnt it be easier to make a program that auto fills the secret phrase to create endless accounts? Isnt that less complicated than putting in different emails? I agree a captcha would be better, and probably safer. But nothing is stopping someone from running a program that makes hundreds of accounts, or doing that themselves, then having them all post spam until the server crashes.
But what would be the point of that? Attacking the game truly hurts the community and jason himself. Blocking up the forums would only be a bummer for the handful of people who actively post on here. I also imagine the website server can handle much higher traffic than the game servers can.
Meanwhile we limit the ability for people to participate here.
...
Without a doubt the noobpocalypse will be in full swing. Considering the average number of guests on here quadrupled in a day. I imagine the growth is bigger in game. Shame all the new players get to experience the game in its current state.
Big wow.
That's a lot of people. I really wish it was easier to make an account here. The gatekeeping with the "secret phrase" is honestly pretty stupid. Like who is going to be botting these forums anyway. I'm tempted to post the phrase on here but I'm sure i would get a slap on the wrist for it.
For those who don't know. The phrase is the same for everyone and you don't need to own the game to make a profile on here. Anyone can do it with an email address and the secret phrase.
I hope to see more fresh faces/voices on here. All opinions matter and the more diversity the more interesting discussion we can have.
I'm definitely not encouraging anyone brave enough to post the secret phrase below and I'm definitely not winking sarcastically.
Don't sue <3
Yea, that's definitely a fair assessment and point of view. I agree its not the same and that it doesn't work fully. If anything this community has proven its ability to adapt no matter what's thrown at us. Jason should seriously just give up on the roadblocks. All we're going to do is jump over them eventually and in the process he's going to drive out community members who grow frustrated with the constant hoop jumping. As well as making the game incredibly inaccessible to new players.
On a counter point. I bet jason wouldn't be disappointed in how quickly we can progress through 10,000 craftable items. Like he mentioned years ago was his goal. If he had focused on expanding the crafting tree instead of throwing wrenches in the gears the game would be in a much better state than it is today. Even if it was small aesthetic items like more dyes and paint. Or minor advancements that only make a moderate amount of impact like advanced stoves, kilns, and ovens. He gets hung up on needing to be original but when we look at transportation he hasn't had much issue with making tiered versions of practically the same thing. Carts, horse carts, and trucks are all practically the same thing but perform completely differently (scale & speed) and give an overall sense of progression and reward for advancing. Same could be done for practically everything. At least then it would feel normal to have trucks and engines laying around next to advanced forges and kitchens. The juxtaposition of adobe kilns and ovens next to trucks, plows, pavers, and sprinklers is a bit nauseating. Plus there could be a bit more stability if advancements were made. Save us time and make us more efficient, so when we hit that late game tier we have more opportunity to teach and have fun together. Do projects that are less essential and just for fun.
Yea thats kind if what i meant. Obviously its not a good way to get ahead of someone. But if you disable them in some way so they cant run past you and they're forced to limp behind you it still results in the same result, staying ahead of them. Tool slots and race restrictions have always felt like this to me. Is it cheap? Yes.
I think jason took serious issue with our ability to progress towards the end of the rift. People were able to make planes and escape the rift within 24 hours of a reset. This resulted, in part, in the removal of the rift. Sour to the communities tenacity i believe jason devised ways to disable our ability to progress so quickly. Thus tool slots and race restrictions were born. At least thats my theory.
The great bread debate of 2021. Dodge and Spoon gonna get in on this?
I couldnt agree more with that sentiment destiny. I always felt like biome restrictions functioned in a similar way to tool slots. A barrier to slow down progression or make advancement more difficult. Some level of abrasion can be good, but both of those worked as hard barriers locking out our ability to perform. It made things more annoying and more difficult just for the sake of slowing us down. So we didnt advance too quickly and so jason could stay "one step ahead of us" to quote the trailer. If someone is outrunning you, cut off their legs, in other terms.
I have yet to meet anyone who "enjoys" biome restrictions who experienced the game before they were added. Jason could have spent the last two years developing and adding content instead of dramatically uprooting and disabling many core elements of this game. But hes got this weird ideal where he wants this game to be "hardcore". Which it is, and anyone who isnt familiar with the game will see it that way. As much as jason doesnt play the game, he knows how it works better than anyone. He built the house, he just doesnt live in it. So to him it all makes perfect sense. He has no perspective on how difficult this game is for new players.
So he puts layer upon layer of convoluted mechanics on top to make things "interesting". Because having an inaccessible crafting system wasnt enough. Struggling to balance food with learning wasnt enough. He had to make it near impossible for the community to teach, thrive, and have fun. Things being difficult can be good, it can feel more rewarding when you overcome those obstacles. But if you put too many in front of someone and run them ragged, all they are going feel is tired and jadded. Which i think is evident within our community.
I used to love teaching, still do, but when i see a town dying and things falling apart im compelled to fix it. So others can survive and possibly have the opportunity to teach in the future. Its feels monotonous. Just the rabbit change killed a lot of our ability to teach. It was easy to teach new players how to hunt rabbits, grow wheat, and make pies. It served as a strong backbone to keep society stable so teaching could happen. But with the change (adding bait) there is too much upkeep and complexity to the system to make it accessible to new players. Along with that lack of food stability putting society at constant odds with survival.
He had a good thing going, but its pretty clear he cant stand us actually thriving in any sense. He thinks it makes the game more interesting, but all its done is make things more painful, monotonous, and hopeless. When everything is built to fail what is there to fight for? Why even put in the effort when you know it was doomed from the start. No matter how hard you work, towns will die, families will die. All the while we kill ourselves in order to make the game remotely accessible to each other.
Psh, a big house? More likely a 7x7 meter square. We all know thats plenty of space to live in, right? Anything bigger than that is unreasonable and inefficient. 529 square feet is enough space for an entire village to live and work in.
I would say as close as 3197 is to 10,000
Try getting another race to help you make yellow dye, black ink, or tattoos. Then we can talk.
Can we chill on this?
If this topic bothers you, make a new thread. I have a lot of patients for your antics spoon but this is a bit too much for me. Please have some respect for your fellow community members and for the intention of this thread. This wasnt meant to be a discussion, but a thread to express ourselves. If people are afraid someone is going to pick apart what they're going to say then argue about their post they are going to be less likely to express themselves. Take that somewhere else please.
The issue i see with food decay is that its too bad in the end. One pip food is just stupid. Its a family killer and that's all it really is. An expiration date. People still berry munch, only difference is those new players waste 10x as much food and die way quicker. Early food pips are probably too much, but late game pips are definitely way too little. Im sure there is a middle ground that works well. Removing all of jasons unnatural and stupid disadvantages is a good move. Gen food is one of his worst. The game worked fine before it was added.
Are you a part of this project Arcurus?
Yea i was going to mention phex. Its existence basically makes the language mechanic useless. Chat isnt character fixed and you can talk to every user that uses the mod at once. It not only makes language obsolete but it makes in game chat obsolete. Personally i find it to be the worst edition to the game and ruins a lot of the personality and community the game once had.
No race restrictions / No homelands / No Family Iron / No Posse / No Kill restrictions / No unlimited map
Eve spawn in a spiral.
Did I forget something?
No generational food decay. No hierarchy/leadership. No eve spawn restrictions/memescore bs. No tap out distance(at least for oil).
It also might be good to expand the viable space for insulated buildings. The current size is too small to be useful for anything beyond a bakery.
And it might be good to adjust how biome temperatures are structured. So we can see jungle, desert, and snow cities more often.
My first experience with language was during the come together update that coincided with the warsword update. As you can imagine it was impossible to cohabitate enough to learn a language. It encouraged mistrust and often the other family would eventually slaughter the other. It didnt matter how hard you worked or how peaceful you were. Being different made people feel uneasy. Not being able to communicate properly made us a liability. So it always ended in blood. In my experience this hasnt changed. Its impossible to get people to take you seriously with a piece of paper. You end up chasing around townsfolk for years trying to get one thing. Eventually someone gets annoyed and they kill you. You ride in on a horse, theyll think you stole it from them and you cant even explain yourself. Cant tell people you're peaceful or anything. This in combination with race restrictions and homeland makes everything beyond frustrating. I dont see its function beyond being a roadblock. A roadblock that more often than not end it death.
Language is an interesting concept. But in reality it shouldnt take 100 years for a group of people to learn a language. Especially if they were raised by a majority of people who speak that language. Maybe 5 or 10 years would be a little more realistic. In reality children should learn it almost instantly if surrounded by it in their formative years. The issue i see with language is if you run into a village shouting your foreign language trying to teach people, someone will more likely stab you. Especially since that mechanic is not explained well and cannot be explained by the foreign party trying to preform it. Im not sure its possible to implement it well. Ive been killed more times because people couldnt understand me and i couldnt explain myself more times than i can count. I have never had an interesting or rewarding experience surrounding this mechanic. The old system vs the new system didnt change this. Our goal is to communicate, so let us communicate. Bad mechanics that try to make that harder while limiting the total possibility of interactions arnt good. Even if they're an interesting concept.
Necros go brrr
