The big problem is any definition of griefing is a construct of someones opinion because there are no hard rules in game.

You can say I THINK the following behaviors are griefing but you cannot say they ARE because there is no law.

Once this is understood people should be able to do what they want with their short one hour life.  Do not feel pressured to do ANYTHING ever. If you get stabbed for it... its ok move on and try again. (Or just stab or snowball the guy that wont let you play your game!)

Before you tell someone what to do ask yourself:
Who are you to tell someone what to do and why?
Why kill them over something that does not directly effect your enjoyment of the game?
Why not let other people fulfill THEIR DREAM of what their hour should be?

Just because someone does not play YOUR game does not make them noob, griefe, RP berry eater ect

If someone wants to waste a shovel making a beautiful graveyard who CARES. If that was THEIR DREAM who am I to care so much that I will stop them? If someone wants 30 Yum and grows and shovels potato who cares man.

Your children and the children of others are not your property. They live their own lives with their own desires. Why not respect that?
The world needs all types of people, different strokes for different folks.

Note: Using my same argument for the controlling people justifies their playstyle too.
You are under no obligation to have their goals. YOU DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEM!

I mean dude this kind of arguments are better taken to a philosophy 101 college class.

We are all kids in a playground. Play nice with the other kids. Don't hit the other kids. Don't steal the toys and hide them where nobody can play with them. Don't take a toy someone else is playing with without asking. Share your toys. And nobody playing actually has the excuse of being 5 years old for their bad behaviour.

The OP was upset at their town being destroyed - this is a perfectly normal and understandable response to griefing. To those of us who have been playing for a while you are already used to it but for a new player this is upsetting and people stop playing because of these griefers. Another big issue I see is that the OP was banned from discord - why? I saw the exchange and they said nothing worth banning.

Again, for a game that is supposed to be about cooperation and building a town together, it is normal to get upset when someone comes and destroys your work.

#28 Re: Main Forum » Food delivery as job/stacking bowls » 2019-02-13 06:43:39

There are too many things that go into bowls and most of them are not edible. So newbies don't recognise them as food, and a random bowl on the ground won't ping the 'this is food' recognition. To make it recognisable as food, have the crocks lined up and put the bowl next to the crock.

Oh this was a good video though. He shows basic farming, pies, and talks about how the family relationships can be so moving even though it's just a game. Very good intro video to the game.

Agreed. I don't want to have to chase someone with a knife for ten minutes until one of us starves, I want to curse that person and get back to what I'm doing.

seriously you have to give the guy credit, he managed to get a bunch of people locked in a building with a bear.

I would have found that really comical if i died that way.

He led a bear into town. That's not griefing in your book? It's not a building, the whole town was walled in.

if you are as stupid as to participate in an OHOL roleplay then you don't deserve anything else than a griefer who does murder you

you can be killed in this game, so make sure you stay away as far as possible from dangers & that surely includes going into a closed house named "prison", lol

& btw, keys qualify meantime as a valid object to grief with, so stay away if you're not a griefer

It wasn't a role-play. I was born into this town twice in two different families. The entire town was surrounded by stone walls. Inside the walls were all the forges, bakery, sheep, and some farms inside, some outside. It was massive and supported 20-30 people the first time I was born there. It was interesting because it was different from other towns I've seen before.

Anyway Kilian your explanation is ridiculous. If you don't like a town design you can die and go live somewhere else. Those trees in your screenshot? I planted those trees in that town. It's really upsetting to hear that it ended like that.

Edit: I just saw you in stream. Asking twisted if he's seen this thread. It's not something to boast about, like you're a celebrity.

Sorry, can someone explain this in simple words what exactly the changes mean?

but most of the "good moms" just drop the kids when they have hair and don't even know who are they

Can you specify what you mean by giving them a purpose? Because I usually question my kids if they are new or not, and if they are and they tell me they can for example tend berries I give them that job. Also if I get very new players willing to learn I usually teach them, but I have quite a few times experienced them dying of starvation while I was teaching them. Even when I have told them to keep themselves fed.

Outside of that I experience that there are either a lot of players who proclaim themselves to not be new, who are in fact new. What am I supposed to do in those situations, because I just presume that since they are saying that they aren't new that they know what to do. Am I supposed to teach each and every one of my children, even when they say they aren't new?

I also feel like you are making assumptions about how I play without context.

I sometimes will give a few things we need. Like I'll say nobody is baking now, or we could use more bowls or iron, or we need to get some compost going. Let the kid decide what they want to do from the things I said. Normally these are things on my own list that I want to do but get interrupted by kids, or can't run too far out to look for stuff cos I'm now campbound due to kids, so I'll tell them to do it or help me.

Just now I saw a newbie trying to stab a mango tree with a knife repeatedly. Like I imagine his internal dialogue was "mango?" *stabs* "where's my mango?" *stab stab stab*

Some ideas -

one rope and six turkey feathers - feathered headdress.

bear skin becomes a bear skin hat and cape, takes both slots.

one thread and one reed/straw becomes a straw sandal.

two leaves combined becomes a leafy covering. becomes a dried leafy covering in an hour, and decays in another hour. Almost no heat benefit, but covers your bits.

Oh damn I like this one a lot. I'd keep it.

Decided to go back and add some colour and transparency. Linked the file in case anyone wants to try it! The problem is they fly like they're drunk and the wing flap on the compost is broken as its in a different place. Also as you can see, they are roughly the size of two eggs! Terrifying.

I think part of the intention of the game is to pass knowledge down. The tutorial could be much more comprehensive - btw you can practice smithing in the tutorial as well, which is also a good eve start practice. But there are many things which you will find many players are happy to teach, as they were also once taught. It's a community game!

#40 Re: Main Forum » Meta thoughts - Sheep and Carrots » 2018-12-31 21:21:19

Additionally - the position of the sheep pen makes it easy to find certain things. A shovel should always be next to sheep pen, and also the spindle, knitting needles, and needles with thread.

#41 Re: Main Forum » A City of Sasha's » 2018-12-30 06:31:19

Hah! The Sashas spread to another family. I was Sasha Knight III and I named three children Sasha. Unfortunately it stopped after that.

#42 Re: Main Forum » Anti-Greifing (For Killers) » 2018-12-27 22:48:11

One small thing. IF you stab a griefer, don't run away. Just state why you stabbed them during the cool down. If I see someone stab and run out of town immediately it's like they don't want to be caught, don't want you to see their name. If you stab and run away, I'm likely to curse you. I will run up and ask why before I curse, and if you don't respond, I curse.

Secondly, I don't think murder is a good punishment. You want to send them to donkey town ideally. If you murder they just go to another town and carry on stupid stuff. If town has enough people, raise awareness, get everyone to curse.

#43 Re: Main Forum » Griefer's killer being cursed » 2018-12-07 17:49:19

Griefers are not intended to be part of the game. They are an unavoidable part of any game. That is what Jason meant.

You have to accept and deal with it, but that doesn't mean you should go into any game thinking you should be a griefer. By its name you should understand that you are causing GRIEF to other players. You are creating enjoyment for yourself by making other people unhappy.

#44 Re: Main Forum » my dontdothisorelse list » 2018-12-07 17:43:15

Bread is useful because old people and children can eat it. Like berries you pick a slice and eat it, it's easier to spot than a bowl of unknown mush (popcorn, beans), and you don't need that extra click of putting it down. Don't just leave in bakery to clutter, move loaf to high traffic areas or near farms and slice. This also helps educate newbies about easy food besides berries they can eat.

#45 Re: Main Forum » my dontdothisorelse list » 2018-12-07 16:16:10

Just in general taking tools from where they were (if they are useful there) and not putting them back.

- Farm needs a basket so soil can be taken out.
- Farm needs bowls for water and soil, don't take the bowls from farm area and never bring them back.
- Stew station needs a lot of tools, don't take from an active stew maker, or at least return when you are done.
- Stew pots need a bowl next to it! Don't take the bowl next to the stew pot. Similarly, if you eat the last bite of stew, immediately refill the bowl and put it back so nobody takes all the bowls from the stew pot.
- Most people start with the home marker. So why take the stones from home marker and make every player after you run around looking for stones?

IMO
- Shovel should always stay near entrance of sheep pen.
- Hoe should always stay in more or less the same place, centralish to the carrot/wheat/milkweed farms. Don't use and leave on the far end of the farm when you are finished, someone will have to run around the whole farm to find it.

... and I had such a fun run of games today.

I was born to an eve in the most amazing town I've ever seen. It had a school with notes to teach new players, everything was organised, there were like twelve full crocks of sauerkraut next to the pie station. My first children played with playing cards with grandma. I ate my first mushroom. By the time I died the berry field was filled with women and children and the bushes were dying. Someone replaced the carrot patch with more berries too. And they kept dying, not knowing that there was food all over to be found.

Another game I played tonight I ran out and started a wheat field (for the first time!) and tried to make pies. There was a massive berry patch and it kept getting bigger. I ran around asking who wanted to learn wheat and pies, and tried to teach as I made them. For the first time I was the old lady teaching people to do things. Kids were starving left and right as the berries were all plucked clean. I must have said "always leave some wheat for seeds" a dozen times. Just before I died I ran past my wheat field and saw a girl cut them all down.

On the other hand as a newish player I am having soooo much fun. I made it to 60 for the first time as eve and even though it was just a small basic camp I was so proud. Three of my children died to rattlesnake bites and I was the only one left in the end. I abandoned so many boys but I was too scared to keep so many children around.
