http://prntscr.com/o52giv <- (half picked not shown) yup, after enough water it's ez to build some milkweed. People should pick most of it out of seeding phase though-this is second this-sized batch so town had enough buckets after I made some (people STILL borrowed bucket of water from every location, I guess griefers). I mean, I made about eight buckets and town already had five-town not much larger than three times this image. Anyhow, if not hexagon-shaped I like this kind of pattern to ease rope-making.
Before diesel it's bit tougher if you don't get yourself a cart, axe clear pond-area and bring idk, maybe two buckets of water and two baskets of clay per run. And after first run I usually have that eight long straight and eight curved run with basic cart (about 12 kindling-after all some fences and carts use long straight ones), fast enough even without horse. Just biome-lock horse nearby, I still claim iron is hardest to come by that time (in quantities to make upgrades to diesel-based economy). I admit I don't count, it's just a hunch.
People use so much time and energy "hiding" their 4x4 milkweed-farm (also not returning tools from where they took'em) when they could boost town by making it near middle of town where there'll be enough for most purposes. Maybe just first batch in wild, fertile soil pit and pondwater. It's still town, not family, idk how to change it (if it is viable to change). I mean, I used up three or four hoes for this, and someone brought two (w/o shafts) when they saw some bowls full of milkweed. This time only one local kid watered though.
Maybe he steals steel and makes locks etc, I've not found reason to do it. Usually someone's in smithy anyhow so stealing is kind of hard.
Unless you have messed around alot with programming
Yes, I have. Also do note I let you define what's "a lot".
There was this long road north of town, I brought about 60 rabbits there, rest I left near their holes... And yes, there's now-a-days someone who keeps on leaving traps on rabbitholes (for about a week I think, before that nope-when I see he'll die and I will tell why). Bringing skinned rabbits to town should be self-evident, I don't like finding those 12 skinned ones in the wild.
This, I wanted to test how many rabbits I could grab (5 traps, had five surviving kids so they slowed down a bit) - about hundred is my educated guess. I had three traps, someone had two left just so they would stop spawns. Nasty grief.
BTW, futurebird you should make milkweed-farms have some holes to make ropes, I do. I bet you've seen some of mine, they're usually 2-5 sized (composts I've done as kid) and start from border of town widening so town kids shall water'em, as I'll be doing something else by then.
iron is easy to get
BTW this olli dude is griefing gen 3-5 villages, stop reading his inane stuff. IK I just make him try to make himself important (he thinks he is, is the joke - explaining it to him, not others) by trying to grief more, and maybe he'll succeed in some instances. He has answers to everything etc etc you know the drill.
Edit: I didn't answer to couple of this kind of posts by him but meh, had to do since his rant has nothing to do with topic. So tell iron-gathering story or make your own *gasp* betterer post please. I already wrote one.
No, please don't touch unity. Jason's made the engine and knows about it, doing stuff in someone elses engine is always a lot, a lot more testing for each and every thing added.
Also, if he has not used unity a lot, it'd also take time learning that, its bugs and whatnot - I'd rather see improvements to the game instead of using lot of time learning unity engine and its quirks (also how it can minimize stuff moving between server-client etc etc).
I'm pretty fast clicking so first thing I usually do is I pick up four to six bowls, go to berryfarm, spread'em and fill. This gives people incentive to bring carrots/take bowls elsewhere (which takes too much of my valuable-lol-time). Also, since now bowls are finite resource when bit older I get few cartfuls of clay and make bowls. If bowls still when I can use cart, I can cart'em, cart wheat to bakery too.
I've been trying to get this idea: berryfarm -> carrot (one side) -> sheep pen, IDK why it hasn't rly caught up. Moving all those carrots is major pein (sry, misspell, pain).
Of course wheat (other side) with some carrots too. Another one I'll never understand is why fill every single wooden floor between berryfarms with soil using baskets ? I need the room for the bowls. Right side is fast pickings, up/down bit slower, idk may be just me.
About the topic (I usually get to topic after this long wall of text):
-you are on the way with little free space indoors (like, room for donated clothes etc)
-you can be locked inside
-nursery is useful (building or location) as when I get old I can ask someone to take care of baby (if nobody near I feed kid berries)
-useful also when I've noticed critical stuff, have kid, I say fast: "everyone is nude/I bring cart of furries/feed bb?" (furries (tm) being rabbits). Baby gets fed.
Also, nursery meh, not too important. And it's player-created content of the game, so each town to its own. Each person to his/her own. Feel free to build/not build building. I've put a fire myself outside near berryfarm so I can pick berries while feeding kid or three. And get the kids on yum-chain, breastmilk, berry, berrybowl.
When sitting inside, four woman each with her own kid, I speak: tell which way is which biome, where I left my furrytraps and (15) furries etc... useful. Most are silent/chat about non-kid-useful stuff. The one place where I do RP rly-though throwing puns or bad jokes to my babies sometimes elsewhere.
I loved the town where radio sender knew stuff, everyone dropped near him and told about biomes, where rabbitraps etc, and receiver was in nursery. ONLY time I ever saw kids pick their own professions. It was also very useful for griefer-brought bear(s) were killed very fast, I presume same for warparties approaching now.
includes Adolpho
I really had trouble telling people in discord variations of that name aren't too bad. Usually I'm rather hard-headed (Eh? Is that English ?) but had to give up on that. Explaining I even tried "don" "donaldo" "trumf" or such (uh, Donald Trump) but IDK, is few letters away from German mass murderer really bad/griefing ? I do not think so. Not sure about how many live atm in Austria or Germany though, nor do I care. Nor will I ever understand (Finnish, we go family sauna nude with whole family until puberty, in university and such it's again all nude-some use towel though-but some time for one sex also reserved) why usa citizens see that bad and guns ok, but again I digress.
I think Josif is in the game (? as Josif Stalin), killed more than some German dude. IDK about Mao etc but you get the gist. Let sleeping ducks lie (except for goose debt-I am part of goose cult ingame) please. And no, not my name anywhere near any of those. I could tell about my second name but nah, besides the point and would make no difference. To me.
I was a young female, old dude came to town just said "come fast dying", picked berry to carry me over if it were far and he led me to one of two veins (found second later nearby), he died just of old age when he was up from the vein, before I could even say he saved the town. Too bad I'm such a newbie, I'd have written "hero" to the grave (should've put a note stating such, but oh well).
So I went home, picked the (first) vein, borrowed a shovel and buried him there with headstone, left a single iron to both sides of him. Town had two or so iron before that, and even later had a chat in discord (chat-etc program) where some knew and wondered about that weird setup-someone buried north of mine having irons both side ![]()
Chasing down people who doing play anymore is a separate issue, and easy enough to do (I can see who stopped playing, and send them an email with a web-based poll). However, this is impossible to do for Steam players, sadly, because I have no contact information for them.
Contacting via email OR impossibility to contact steam players is why I suggested to put voting possibility (also) before you start to play. Maybe have that as a possibility, or allow them some other way (via your homepage ohol ?) to vote, then inform them of said possibility. Many people use separate email account for "business" and one for games - so games usually get NO response whatsoever (from me at least).
Also, do I need to /die ten times in order to vote, haven't seen voting possibility ? I usually live to 60 as many do. So that'd mean eight lives (two I get forgotten by mom riding horse or such).
Does the voting count all lives or just since some update ?
Back when the stability of the food economy always hinged on a single carrot seed.
For those of you that remember that time, I have a gift
Hmm I'm 50 so I think that counts too. Anyhow, plant in clay-rich soil I've found you get best carrots ! They're tiny, but not like store-bought carrots that are just made tiny and have no taste, self-made small ones in clay soil have very rich flavor !
I think most ppl missed the update - no more Jason XIV (oops, Jason XV sry missed year passed), it picks up (I think next, haven't tested) name that is not alive at the moment you name.
Just a guess, but go to game directory, folder "objects" delete file that has "cache" in middle of it. Do same in directory "sprites". When those two files are deleted, load game normally. I think there's something wrong but this _might_ help.
Sounds like the same problem, although I have no idea what causes it for new players. I know of no other instance this has happened and I think it will be fixed rather soon, but if you just want to play _now_ I think this might work.
Grumpy ol' lady, see how they park'em cars all over (brought three cans of fuel but still nobody moved - and by that age I had already lost my driver's license):
I was a bit triggered lol ... my bad.. XD
A bit personal but you got a point. If nobody teaches newbies we don't get people making composts, if every player taught compost-farm-cycle to one newb they'd invest more to the game than munch berries twice and leave - and they'd learn some other stuff etc so vets wouldn't carry burden of doing everything.
I state and continue to state, have one 15-min teaching showing 2-3 players how to DO stuff (don't show, doesn't help) and they'll do some composts, farming. Soon maybe even more I hope.
More sections in the tutorial area could help.
Game's under construction so my suggestion to this would be Jason's/someone else's (Jason's ad to youtuber? Hmm) howto-video. Making additions to tutorial is major work and many things change, wherein making video a bit less so and lasts useful longer (BTW read what I mentioned about radio and slotbox useability in this thread please).
Many ppl are in awe when I sometimes teach things like compost-farm-plant basically anything. That new players can ASK ingame without bad consequences (sorry I repeat but this is major thing IMO-get good reviews and larger playerbase that stay).
That I sometimes say in nursery: when getting hair say N if new, and nobody worries if you're new, I'll teach a bit. I also say ask random ppl for help, that doesn't hurt-like in most games. Even mentioning these few things in video about the game would give new players a lot more interesting lives, and start adding to playerbase ! We players have no way to communicate this to new players who test, berrymunch game or two and see no fun. Also, always when I teach we both do same thing, so don't show (if anyone interested in teaching) but both DO.
Radio was basically two weeks of updates for a fancy toy you can dismantle in less than a sixth of the time it takes to put together.
There is that, then the one single instance I found radio useful and fun was when a person from other side of the large town radioed stuff (I for example went and told radio-operator we're now out of pads so don't get mauled+later that the bear(s) are dead).
Receiver was at nursery, and host did tell kid-useful-stuff like which way what biomes were, what stuff we were almost out of (automatic job selection by bbs, they selected-only time I've seen it work well-their jobs). Also news about said griefer-attracted bear spread fast. Also, since sending from bakery corner(I think) and receiving at nursery it was hard to dismantle either unit without dying immediately. I think you can surround receiver in ancient walls too, and lock host inside with box to feed (also some kind of loudspeaker-system for receiver would be nice so it'd be of more use, along with range-setting to sending station).
Yes, I stayed to feed bbys while most women went to gather bows and arrows. Radio told info how to avoid getting mauled and bears location.
Later host was about to leave but I said he's providing good service for kids and he decided to stay sending public announcements.
The storage stuff was a direct DOWNGRADE
There appeared new use, someone figured to put'em
-between carrot-rows (since not so smart people don't leave room where to pick carrots let alone baskets)
-it is also one-click-storage, easy on irl kids etc, you and I can click very fast but for me ping is still 140+ living in another continent (cs-go is consistently below 10)
-north of bakery next to horizontal road full of pies / next one full of half-eaten-pies etc
Still, if I cook I do pick some baskets of different kinds of pies to move to nursery for the ladies.
Also, if there is statistics about how long people live, I suggest don't count those non-moving. I've been born several times to people in coma (some woman parked herself to berryfield's edge) so I'd strongly suggest not to give bonus for "playing".
Between all the changes in cursing, I kind of lost track (cursing rarely). So you can curse anyone now ? Anyhow, to the topic:
To have culture from elsewhere currently I see only one way: fertility to go down (say, inbreeding irl) , but this needs new mechanics, like marriage by taking surname of other family. Nobody cares about outside appearances, so this would give chance to be adopted to a family. Another would be 10% more productivity but not worth the risk. Anything short of family (=town) fading out isn't worth the risk.

Since issue about voting came up: 30 is imo way too young and those people have much more to contribute (to town) by exploring (rather than only RP'ers never leaving town only ones being able to vote) to gather every three years (or whatever) to town center/bell to vote. Maybe 50+ or 55+, because by that time you usually best serve your town by staying nearby (at later age eating berries if food required since other food is way too strong). I often tell stories in nursery about lay-of-the-land, I see it useful so every kid doesn't have to search where to find some biome they want. I've never had anyone old talk to me over nursery fire, so chances are it's been me if you've seen someone.
Also needs new mechanics, also some sign that says "voting" lockable ? Still problem with towns that are derived from same eve but away from eachother I imagine.
Only people who have spent their buffer lives.
Only people who (recently?) used the feature relevant to the question (i.e. if you're asking about crafting axes ask only if they crafted an axe).
-buffer lives get buffed up every now and then (I think latest was to dozens beyond 12) so /die people get advantage. Also some people don't really die so often, so limiting to, say, 10 lives (10 hours) during latest thing'd be kind of awkward. I mean if two days since implementation, 5 hours/day to get into voting pool ?
-if you're born to a town having an advanced item (say, mango trees or newcomen machine) it's unwise for everyone to build one in order to get to voting-pool
I got the image of this being kind of feeling of community-thing, not every new item or such...
Also, for general questions it'd be ok for it to possibly post question upon launching game, so people who quit/took reprieve can vote. After all, they bought the game, for some questions their input is still valid. Maybe post week's question (not whole question, but what kind of things there are up) somewhere, in forums ?
Personally, I have never encountered a player attacking a village without the use of an extended cam.
Orly, nice mod you have there.
But I digress (fog of war being unavailable) for the problem stated to be solved it seems only option would be another magic-gimmick, say color screen side closest to non-relative red, distance shown by bit thicker/thinner line. Again, Jason doesn't like this kind of stuff, nor zooming in/out. Breaking immersion too.
Hawthorn (property-fence next to road) rather not ez to get past: http://prntscr.com/o3hjeh
For most intents and purposes 12=18 (don't quote me on that)... Maybe some way, if you've played less than 50 lives or something then have always 30 left. After that any 8..18 would be the same for most players. If low don't take risks. Plenty to do in towns, atm (at the moment) not many raids so you don't die rly that often.
Horses are cared for, bred, and (though not shown in game yet) replaced by their offspring. At the moment it happens "behind the scenes". Also as a more valuable asset people take so good care of cart it will last long time.
Since it's been growing a bit lately and I've seen some problems, I'd like to notify every member to:
1-always leave at least one untouched sheep dung (or feed one while planting eggs)
2-always move the goose out of the pen, preferably to decently small nearby biome that's not in use (they don't run far, also serve as last food reserve if ever needed-until they pay their debt)
3-leave eggs in baskets you've done (easy enough), do not pick baskets from town
4-the goose will eventually pay (either by golden eggs or other means) their debt with interest
Any questions, msg discord, @Sukaton#6334 regarding any questions, thank you.
S.
ps. if you feed lamb and pen is full it won't help so always move goose out of the pen, any goose you see there.
Shouldn't the Eve have a throne and some gold ingots near the center ? That'd give the incentive for others to do her bidding and not wander around. But the basic drawing seems viable, thought expansion should need a bit more thinking.
I'd prefer two rows of berries, so if people don't want to meet they don't have to, they can walk on different lanes.
