I try to make it a point to thank people in game, but you're right! It can get so easy to forget to pass that along. I'll try to be more thankful more often. Thank you for that!

When I'm a kid I like to berry farm smile and I like to tell people I'm a berry maid and that we must honor our berries and all that they provide in many ways.

Then I grow up some more, and it really depends! It changes a lot. Today after I tended the berries, I started composting and helping with feeding the sheep to get the poops. Tilly/Tully (can't remember) was an awesome person and we worked really well together. Thank you! The town I was in went through a crazy phase. haha

I don't really stick with one task, I kind of just flow with what people need.

I've done smithing, gathering wood, cleaning up the town (soooo underappreciated, guys! Let's see more of this!)

I like socializing too! I like trying to talk to griefers when they're willing and sometimes I might throw a task their way xD They end up doing it 7/10 times, which are odds I favor. Most times, people might grief because they feel a lack of connection and willingness to be part of a community. I've gotten really fed up with some lives because people will take what I'm immediately using, or a project I started, and they'll just take it over without any kind of communication. That's such a buzzkill, guys, and I know the people who are offenders of it are not very likely to be on forums..but still. haha I wish there was more of a social pressure felt in game to ASK.

Overall, I try to do what I'm familiar with and then scaffold from that! Like maybe learn one new thing per lengthy life. smile

The Tarrs somehow make their way into almost every city. People get born to Tarrs over and over again. They breed like bunnies and never die out. This annoys some people XD

+1 to Team Tarr!

I was just born into a Tarr village.

Someone named Dune Tarr locked me into a room and I died.

I don't know why I knowingly walked into a room with a lock on it but that kid came out of nowhere and shut that door on me and then claimed he was 'sorry'
Dammit lol

#30 Re: Main Forum » Where is the fun in Big Civilizations ? » 2018-09-11 04:18:00

I used to get excited at being born in large civilizations that were bustling with activity and people, and to a point, I still do! I love it. You can actually have a little bit more leniency towards talking with people, forming a mini-culture, and compiling a back story and history of the immediate area you can come across!

But I agree, It is a bit tedious when you come to realize that much of the time, even after being born to a productive clan, it seems to decompose into a muddling array of people who end up 'sitting by the watercooler' and not contributing much - not only that but they tend to pull others into it to. This tends to start as a result of a murder, and then it devolves into nonproduction as they lose focus.

People need a LOT of reminders of what is important...but at a certain point I come to wonder if it is worth it, how often am I heard by these players when they do this?

It is at this point in civilization that I come to reflect on my own actual real life civilization outside of the game. People take conveniences for granted. They treat their lives as a chatroom and forget how to survive and to contribute. They think only for themselves. They devour the berry bushes and pies. They drain the stews and leave nothing in the wake except for their debris and empty bowls.

It is at this point that I find a new sort of quest to try to manage, to maintain...

I'll start working on an already made satellite village or a road to more sources. It's interesting the help that picks up along the way. When there's too many cooks in the kitchen, you gotta spread them out and people need to find more abstract ways of contribution.

I find starting in Eve runs EXTREMELY challenging for me. I don't know what that means for me as a player. I both love and I hate it. I've been slowly getting better at it. I'm a slow learner, I've been playing since March, but I'm persistent. That's important for me to be.

I like the rare chance to be born into old civilizations that need renewal. That's challenging in its own way.

Good laugh.

#34 Re: Main Forum » Missed Connections » 2018-08-31 05:50:21

I was Fennec Wonderly. Born to a town just as Ava Wonderly started smithing a bunch of knives, pissong someone else off about how they used all of his supplies and we kept a watchful eye on her. I was barely an adult when I took matters into my own hands and grabbed one of the many knives she dumped and stabbed her. I was sure to have witnesses. People cheered and fed me while she fruitlessly attempted to turn the town against me.

Something in my heart ignited. I was happy just working the fields all day and finding compost. This town needed someone to cheer for. My mother Kaori nodded on in approval and shadowed me to be sure I would go in good directions. The hospital was in the middle, it was small but had the necessities. I guarded it fiercely and birthed many children there in the safe and warm building. Justice, Liberty, Honor, to name the ones who lived to adulthood. Soon..I heard whispers about there being a cursed adult. A mother cried that she didn't know and that she felt somethin' real terrible about it. I listened as people continued to talk about this person stealin supplies and running around too quick for anyone to catch. Somethin' in me knew...it knew...that I might go toe to toe with this scoundrel one day.

I shuddered.
Hadn't I seen enough death?

I wandered the streets a bit aimlessly, wondering where this person might be. I explored the alleys, the streets. Something pulled me south. I decided to go there. The wild.

I kept finding weird places for our supplies, like an axe head or a chisel. I was inspecting what I found when I heard something drop from just a screen above me. They must not have heard me? I wandered up and saw a pickaxe. What on earth...?
Then I hovered my mouse to see who was dropping our supplies and saw it. The cursed person. Ignazio Wanderly.
I didn't even say anything..they were suddenly very still. I wandered up like I was going to walk off, but took my knife out and stabbed the tree they were hiding behind.
They continued to hide, even as they bled everywhere.

My food had been full, thankfully. I heard I think Jackson Wonderly come wandering down. Jackson was the one who seemed the most disturbed at this cursed person. Barely saying a word, they took their knife out and proceeded to hack the player down the tree, instantly killing them. We had committed a double murder! My first!

It was really something watching our people running down from seemingly nowhere right after this happened, but it was fun.

My kids welcomed us back and Honor followed, learning our ways of the law. She got me a sheriff hat and we ran around making sure people were following in line and not trying to stir up trouble. It was awesome. We had a group of us and we all had knives lol

I think, if i recall correctly.. our deputies were:
Forest, Jackson, Leon, Honor, Justice...I might be forgetting some. If I missed you let me know!

Thanks for the awesome life!

I was George, The old guy that gave you an apron with a knife. I was a bit disappointed after reading this thread and then spawning in the town only for it to be a shadow of its former self. I cleaned sheep pen, then lady kills a bunch so I had to clean up again. I watered some berries because no one else did.

One of the murderers was Buchanan Wiza who killed 2 random ladies. I saw her running off after her second kill and stabbed her. A lot of girls got killed off but plenty of little girls when I died. I thought I'd killed the murderer but apparently, there were several people murdering. I was getting old so I wanted to give someone trustworthy my knife in case some kid decides to swap out my gear.

I saw your death and I attempted to heal you but there wasn't any pads, sorry man.

I honestly didn't think I'd be saved. I don't think my mom meant to kill me, she seemed pretty honest about it but I was still leery that she wanted to give me a knife in the middle of a crowded area...like..mom? come on lol

edit-

you were pretty awesome. You put a lot of work into the place and I could see that. Thanks for trusting me! I tried to give the knife to someone who I also saw working hard and she was a bit isolated so I wanted her to be safe.

#37 Re: Main Forum » Why do you play OHOL? » 2018-08-30 11:16:40

I like the instant gratification the game provides, and the lack of commitment needed. I just need to remember basic skills and I can pick up newer stuff easily.

Every life has the chance to be memorable.

I love the level of anonymity the game provides. Save for references made to forums, you don't really know who the other person is. It's freeing.

Pure collaboration and the chance to just immerse yourself into the game however way you desire.

My kid Huckleberry Wiza got the leaf crown. I think Luccas or someone to that effect had carrot crown. They also gave my kid some knives from some elder, forgot their name. My mother was Canan, I was Red.

She did pretty well, I was giving kids jobs and we were figuring out where the water supplies were at. Then it got ridiculously populated and people started marrying each other and I don't even know. The compost was still doing really well and the stew farm was AMAZING...I LOVED the rose building. People were having wedding ceremonies in there and awing over how pretty it was. I tried to maintain order and tell people where items were designated. I am always maiden of berries, and try to guide the littles (and in particular, the newbies) to help farm the berries until they grow strong and confident enough for other needed tasks.

edit-

I had some strong kids, in particular: Jason, Huckleberry, Myrtle, Blue, Canan, and Borna.

Huckleberry got married and I got to watch. Lots of babies popped out everywhere lol I think Borna was born during the wedding. I wanted to name her 'Celebrate' but it came out as that. I thought Borna would run cos of the sudden population boom. All of my kids were pretty helpful and looking back at the tree I don't really feel all that bad about it. Later on Myrtle and Borna asked me to get them married, they couldn't find anyone who wasn't their sibling or direct relative to marry them so they married each other LOL

#43 Re: Main Forum » some fan art » 2018-08-10 05:08:52

At first glance this almost looks like a sequencing of events, which I like because it helps bring it back around to paleolithic era type art. I like it. I'm just a little confused about the hair being white, was that a stylistic choice?

An idea for a future piece could be something similar to this, and using a bit of a sequence, tying in time and what it does to the bone piles. fresh with the flies, regular, old, and almost gone. smile

#46 Re: Main Forum » Let's Not Meet - Opposite of Missed Connections: » 2018-07-28 09:20:57

I spoke in baby spanish and I was the last born child, a male, of a dying civ that would have otherwise probably lasted a little while longer. I wanted to practice my poor spanish abilities because I've been wanting to find some sort of an outlet.

Anyway, to make a long story short, mom got mad I was her last kid and she didn't have a girl to pass on to. She took a knife out and stabbed me after telling me to 'speak right' and then cursed me. Another dude came along and cursed me.

Those were my second and third curses I'd ever received. Sort of wished I earned them differently, but, eh.

In lieu of missed connections, stories of interesting note of players you found interesting but would rather not meet again.

Meant to be a joke, because sometimes I find the bad stories funny and want to share them.

This is my first thread post so please be gentle :x

I was just a lonely man who lived third gen in Ace fam civilization. I thought it be mighty time to make a wife of my life.

I sought after a beauty named Jan, who was queen at the time. We were roughly the same age when I lay eyes on her.

her brother and son fought me off though. took the clothes off my back. I chased another. Savannah. Didn't notice me at all.

Then...

Dalia.
My sweet Dalia.

I made her pies and she said her children were mine.

She didn't love me.

She wanted me to get her a knife. The current king and I disagreed. Then she wanted bow. I told her to learn to make arrows but I wasn't gonna teach her.

She was 'unwell'. I told our children. They listened. I went off to spy more supplies but she chased after me with such a beautiful fury. She shot me down. Said I assaulted her.

Oh well.

Live and learn.
