And yeah, make the stew at a station and then deliver it to various places. i often start the fires myself, but a decent amount of players are smart enough to make a raw stew pot you leave near them.

I like to set up one in the nursery, one by the bakery, and one by the fields if I'm making stew. It's one of the more convenient foods for sitting next to you while you're working.

I try to spread the pots out too. Go to places are, as mentioned, nursery, farm, bakery and smith. This also helps you keep tabs on whats going on. Next delivery to the nursery can be paired with a few tid bits on what needs doing.

Stew is fantastic, it lasts quite a while and as long as you are sure to replant everything an infinite food resource that is surprisingly simple to prepare. I find myself gravitating towards that job quite often. Though this may be because I don't trust most to keep the squash seeds.

When you think about the time and management it takes to keep pies going compared to stew I'm surprised more don't try to get it going sooner. You can do everything at the farm as opposed to bouncing from wheat to sheep to bakery and stew usually only requires one person as opposed to the ideal two of a bakery.

Glad Steve survived lol Its generally handy keeping the original as they keep producing lambs in case you're ever desperate ie all sheep butchered.

I don't think I've ever killed a mouflon not getting sheep. Even with the temp update I wouldn't kill one for just its hide. The reason I wanted to save her was seeing someone trying to shoot her with a bow. I asked why, and they said the dead sheep babies created are a waste and clutter.. But if its far enough from the village who cares? I walled off that little green patch on the far outskirts for steve because I felt bad for her after that. She helped us so I helped her lol.

That makes me sad, why kill her just because of her babies sad they despawn eventually anyway. Haha must admit some don't develop the emotional connection to things like we do. It's probably an effect of playing the game for a while, I get bored of the repetition of work, work, work. So try to spice things up with a little light hearted roleplay. Well I say light hearted but... recently asked my son to stab me to help end the world hmm we had one of my nieces tag along and she was quite shocked (new) lol that was entertaining.

I'm going to start naming the farm animals now, maybe even write some notes for them smile

Suiciding over a name is a pretty knee jerk reaction.

But... you killed then because of that name.... death comes either way.

There is no need for the hostility it was a simple question.

I've found that jason is quite responsive to complaints, he made several fixes to the temp overhaul after many complained. Also if you bought the game through steam you CAN get a refund.

But that isn't the point really your approach is far too aggressive to be taken seriously so in all honesty it does sound like you're exaggerating.

Try emailing jason for a refund if you are that concerned. He is only one person and accusations like this are pretty unfair.

I was Joy Schuler. My cousin Woodson.

I made the mistake of naming Woodson's son while caring for babies in the nursery, he nor she appreciated this. An argument ensued, ending in me making a 'Frozen' joke. Soon after I had a daughter and named her Elsa in jest. Then proceeded to tell her they were nutty.

A few minutes passed, elsa grew up and I returned to work on my newcomen pump. This is when James (the kid i mistakenly named) came up claiming there was a killer and asking for help... his mother in tow. I was immediately suspicious and stated I wasn't going to fall for it...with no weapon what help would I be. There was no way in hell I was following them. So James and Woodson left and I could work in peace.

THEN he returns asking me to help him catch a cow saying 'ur pro' (nice try buddy) I laughed saying I'd never caught a cow and was certainly no pro. But after much debate and claiming he was too young to carry rocks to build a pen I gave in. We headed into the nearby savanah looking for... something, honestly it was all very confusing. Suddenly James starts typing 'Food', 'FFF' I was on 5 pips too so hurried to find a round stone, made it sharp and dug a carrot. By this point at 2 pips I made the split second decision to feed James, big mistake. I died running to the next carrot with enough time to notice Woodson popping into my screen... They had both said she was too busy to help WTF.

Then after about thirty minutes out of that life I check the family tree to see my daughter Elsa had murdured James!!! Was it revenge? Did they try to kill her too? Or was she just a griefer?

So many questions...

Reminds me of an older Twisted video where the family names were 'Trash' and 'Lisa' was pretty ridiculous but also quite funny.

Just now I had a baby pulling angry faces because I didn't call her 'america' that one threw me through a loop haha how was I to know. I'm sure 'Sammy' learned to accept her given name though.

Generally I try to keep my kids names short and varied. Some faves are, Elle, Dan, Sam, Rain, Tom, Lea. So if they are naughty they can be easily 'punished' (cursed)

#38 Re: Main Forum » Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul » 2019-02-24 22:23:10

I came back to the game after 6 months on the day the update was released (weird coincidence) so don't have any such stories. Though I can imagine it was frustrating for those who put in a lot of work. The good thing is new towns are popping up and people are adapting. Soon, I hope, we will have new mega towns that will, again I hope, last even longer.

honestly, when i wasn't playing for like 6 or 7 months blacksmithing was more specialized when i left, and now a bunch of people just know how to do it so it's often being done.

But I was in a camp that would have survived if i was confident enough to smith quickly (really just badly needed a shovel to dig out the empty pits) and i realized i really need to know how to do it.

I've been teaching more people how to make stew and sauerkraut, both really helpful skills. I always try to teach noobs what I can.

Though my main advice is still "Make basket, always carry food" if we're in an even slightly wild camp. That's the most important thing for living long enough to learn anything else big_smile

I need to start actually learning carpentry in this game, i'm sure it's not complicated, i'm just not that interested in building. [though it seems to be what a lot of other people enjoy, so i've rarely been in a situation where anyone needed me to be a builder]

It seems like we are in a very similar situation. I'm quite comfortable with making stew/baking and other food and have just started to branch it into making other useful items.

Took my first steppes in smithing a few days ago, though I was slow and decided running through the smithing section of the tutorial for practice would help. IT DID went from raw resources to an axe and shovel and cut down the yew tree blocking the exit.

I also made my first bucket which was really rewarding, the village only had two at the time (rest had been used on large wells that were dry) so despite lack of thanks I knew I'd done something useful.

My next goal is to start making more tools such as Mallet and shears. Also want to make a cart and even give the rubber wheels a go.

After that I'd like to work with some cows, the idea of having a farm full of happy animals is so enticing.

So much to learn in this game even after playing for a good 4-5 months total. Taking a break and coming back to all the new things is overwhelming and exciting all at the same time smile

I'd say the social structure of this game relying so heavily on female influence makes me think of  'the mists of avalon'. The priestess of Avalon having babies with little heed given to the father, sending boys to the main land and keeping girls to be raised to carry on the tradition. All quite similar to how many towns on Ohol operate.

Pity I was a guy. That was the end. I made a little starter area for anyone who might pass through.

In another life Eve died right after I was born, I had an older sister who had just got her hair and she tried to feed me. We ran from berry bush to berry bush together.

But then we couldn't find another bush and she ran off, don't blame her. Maybe she made it.

What is the roughest start you have survived?

I had a similar experience except I was a girl. Eve was raising me and a brother, not long after I grew hair and started foraging baby bro ran up saying "mom, ded" I tried feed him but managing his tiny food bar and my own provide too hard. I lived to 57 though had a bunch of boys and a single baby girl that suicided... sad times.

Mom and bros bone piles haunted me throughout that life... It was surprisingly emotional.

In another life my mom died not long after I was born. Her mother (eve) was still alive but old so she carted me from berry Bush to berry Bush to keep us alive. Very grateful for that one. smile

#44 Re: Main Forum » Shirt vs. Backpack: the final battle » 2019-02-24 10:50:24

Given that a backpack can only be made out of one material (rabbit fur) and clothes have several options I wouldn't fault someone for prioritising a backpack. In early game (before sheep) it is generally needed ad a lot more villagers are needing to travel to set up basics and extra inventory space certainly helps. Mid game (after sheep) you have a reliable source of clothing in wool so using furs to kit other out with a bp can't be faulted all that much. I would only argue that past mid game (where higher tech can be freely made) and your population is growing faster should rabbit fur clothing be prioritised over a backpack.

Adding an additional clothing feature such as cotton, with the loom giving us a foundation, and leather, with cows, would be pretty handy too. Though I don't feel we are super limited at the moment, it would be more of convenience than anything.

#45 Re: Main Forum » Lineages die out because no new babies are born » 2019-02-24 10:36:44

I've dealt with this issue, though not as extreme as zero children, usually two or three at worst. A big problem I've had lately is having a tone of boys and either one, two or no girls. I believe the game should somehow register how many girls are currently alive in a lineage and if it is say, two or less automatically have the next born be female.

Thanks for trying to help.  I would like to say thank you, if only it worked that way.  Here was my test.  I went on server4, escaped out of the game and went back in.  When I came back, I was in the exact same spot and once I saw my pip meter, it was three pips down.

I did a second test.  Again on server4.  If you watch your temperature meter when you start as an Eve, you have mid temperature no matter your biome.  It's just like you stood over a fire with clothes for a bit.  The game slowly adjusts your temperature to the biome that you are in, provided that you don't change the temperature type that you started in.  If you do, then you will get temperature shocked (for example, if you change from a grassland to a swamp, you will cool off slowly just as if you had stayed in a grassland... if you change from a grassland to a desert, you get temperature shocked)  In the second test when I came back the second time, my temperature was almost at the grassland temperature, instead of being at mid temperature.  So, I had two means to tell that I hadn't died upon disconnection.

Additionally, starvation time varies depending on one's temperature.

I see, sorry I must fiddle with other things giving my character enough time to starve when I do this. My mistake.

On a side note some form of poisonous plant could be interesting like purple berries? Could have it give you food my make your temp rise to desert level. Hmm probably too griefable.

#49 Re: Main Forum » Generation ? Ancestor unknown » 2019-02-23 21:27:47

I had this issue when my internet cut out and I got disconnected. My character never appeared on the family tree and children say unknown ancestor. I think it might have something to do with the update changing how the mod treats insta death. As a baby it disconnects you and doesn't work at all as an adult now

How hard is it to starve in this game? lol

b-but starving takes time! I want to die now, not wait almost an entire minute! -Or even two!

Seriously though, just find a cold patch and starve yourself out. Are people genuinely too impatient to wait 60 seconds for their hunger gauge to go down..? I get the whole "its one hour one life we dont have much time" thing, but that's irrelevant if you're trying to kill yourself off lmao.

You can wait, surely. If you're so impatient, make a quick round through the village to say goodbyes. Or just doodle something in a noitebook, fiddle with your phone, minimize the tab and do something else for a couple minute.. You still have control over your deaths my dude, it's just not instantaneous anymore, and it never should've been. The only reason you had that as an option was because of an exploit.

Starving takes time.  Dying takes time now.  For no good reason.  You haven't provided any sort of reason for this change.  You've just labeled it an "exploit".  Thus, anyone who wants to die becomes inconvenienced.  Impatience is a problem if you're trying to kill yourself in real life, because if you wait, you might change your mind.  Additionally, it could be longer than a minute, even in a cold zone, because of the yum bonus.  Maybe someone wants to yum as much he or she can in a life, and that's his or her only goal.  Having to wait then takes more time.

Wandering around the village?  They might feed me and keep me alive.  Jason has said it's possible to feed someone their entire life, and he is correct on that.  Haven't you ever seen an afk mom that the village keeps around for popping out babies?

And no, it's not control if I don't have control over the time.  Control over own's life is having the opportunity to choose when one dies.

And no, it was not an exploit.  It was because of a programmer's *fair* use of the old system.  Note that the game can get modded.

Just press esc then % problem solved that takes a fraction of the time it does to starve

Alternatively find a desert, snow, both mosquitos. There are plenty of quick ways to die.

Many agreed with this change because it fix the problem of mothers having their birth cooldown triggered.

I'm not even going to address your coments on suicide except to say it probably isn't and shouldn't be an integral feature of this game.
