If there was no family specialization update and if map wasn't wiped recently it could be different. There would be more developed towns, and even in less developed towns it could be much better since we would be able to upgrade wells.

#528 Re: Main Forum » Birth rate » 2019-11-20 09:04:26

The problem is with ratio between experienced players and newbs. With that low ratio it just won't work without real tutorial built in game. I have no other idea how else it could be fixed.

#529 Re: Main Forum » Birth rate » 2019-11-20 08:58:10

If they helped just a little tiny bit it would be better... But they are totally worthless :D And it's impossible to take care of them other than feeding them. No chance to teach.

If server1 gets overflowed then they will be redirected to server2 I guess.

Uselman family with 44 people. I'm guessing they are pretty advanced. 35 people unnamed, so there can be even more babies in that family. If they are advanced then no wonder why everyone ended there... Kids were dying everywhere else.

Yeah, babies were spawning like crazy, and dying like crazy. They did pretty much nothing. Hmm.

I think new players don't even realize that current situation is due to steam discount.

#533 Re: Main Forum » How Would Updates Work... » 2019-11-20 05:30:44

Eves were supposed to spawn once there are more people playing if I'm not wrong, so everything would be fine, we would just have many more families.

It would be fine if ratio between experienced players and newbs didn't decrease, but it probably will.

This game isn't newbies friendly. Newbies can learn basics like farming and so on but they can't learn about wells, which is the most important thing in the game. (They can, using external sources only)
Therefore they won't know how big issue water is, how to get more water, not mentioning they won't get that we need more families to build next level well.

And what if interacting with specialist items (rubber tree, tarry spot, wild horse) was hungry work even for the specialists? Only specialists could do the work because only they would have the hunger capacity to do it.

It wouldn't be clear message either. I saw many times how a person tried to cut a tree without result. Many just don't know that most of trees are hungry work. Same would be here.

1 means "very new"

Damn, this question is really confusing. I selected 1 but should have 10.
But that would mean I'm max new, that's how I understood the question.

#536 Re: Main Forum » How about boosting yumming a little bit? » 2019-11-20 04:43:29

Yumming is totally useless when living most of your life out of town. Just eat all wild berries, they will regrow anyway. But while living in a town as a smith, farmer or whatever, it should really be worth yumming, yet it's not in current state.

+2 yum bonus for every food would make it that yummers wouldn't lose as much focus, because they would eat less often. Additionally with new eat mechanics that allows to over eat, yumming could be actually considered as a pro thing.

#537 Re: Main Forum » A quick survey out of curiosity » 2019-11-20 04:10:46

I rated the game 3 stars because how it is developed. Without family specialization update I would give 4 stars. This game has potential to get 5 stars but it probably won't happen since Jason is the developer.

There is a question on steam "would you tell about this game other people" or smth like that. I'm not answering it because I wouldn't in current state, but I think I may one day once it gets better.

#538 Re: Main Forum » How about boosting yumming a little bit? » 2019-11-20 03:57:02

I'm not even a yummer, I always knew it's not worth yumming. Tho like 2 months ago I gave it a try and played only yumming for a week just to get solid experience with it. I felt happy again to no must yum, I felt free again.
But... I really enjoyed yumming even tho my work efficiency decreased while yumming tongue

I had no problem with remembering what I did eat, even tho my memory isn't really that great.

That's why I'm asking for boosting yumming. It's just a nice mechanic... Why making it useless?

#539 Re: Main Forum » 12 minutes... » 2019-11-20 03:44:10

I haven't played yet today, but why are there so many babies per family? How many families are there? Shouldn't new eves spawn once there are more people playing?

#540 Re: Main Forum » Coming Tomorrow: Large influx of new Steam players » 2019-11-20 03:23:54

It would be easier with general chat... Sry I'll stop with this general chat thing :D

#541 Re: Main Forum » Coming Tomorrow: Large influx of new Steam players » 2019-11-20 03:22:53

We can always instruct them what to do... Well, they can do pretty much nothing and it's probably hard to teach when so many brand new players... I haven't played yet today.

How about boosting yumming a little bit?
Currently yumming vs eating high efficient mono diet is very close in water efficiency. It's easy to learn to eat only mutton pies and drink milk. It saves much time and focus to do this kind of mono diet.
Yumming for the other hand is something that only non beginner players can do. It's not even worth teaching new players to yum since there are no real benefits of yumming.

How about making it that every yum food gives +2 pips instead of +1?

#543 Re: Main Forum » Coming Tomorrow: Large influx of new Steam players » 2019-11-20 02:58:55

It was 141 players online a while ago. Pretty nice. But I wouldn't be surprised if it drops again to about 60 in three weeks.

#544 Re: Main Forum » Rethinking travel through bad biomes » 2019-11-20 01:27:13

One thing I like is that the game is balanced around veterans/mod users. With general chat with our family it could become exciting. Telling tasks and telling how to live on chat would bring whole new level of family cooperation.

I wonder if it is possible to programm a general chat in a mod. Text is invisible if a person is too far away, but maybe it can be read directly from the server? Can it?
I mean general chat only with our family, not with everyone on the server.

I don't like exploring because it's boring to me being alone in the wild, but if I could chat with my family during it I wouldn't mind exploring at all.

Have you tried awbz mod? It's very minimalistic. Only zoom mod, emotes on keys f1-f12, and a little window that shows how many people is living in your family (it can be closed with a key).
It can't be distracting.

Damn, at some point we will see players with 1000 genetic score and it will only increase over time. I'm excited that we are able to get infinite slots, but maybe whole formula should also include our genetics score. So the more score we have the less and less points we would get, and lose more points when someone from our close family dies young. I still would want people to be able to reach 200 points and have many skill slots.

#547 Re: Main Forum » Rethinking travel through bad biomes » 2019-11-19 22:20:01

I mean, specializations could be fun, but not in a way where someone can't enter a biome, but where different races would be able to craft different things, it could open many possibilities.

#548 Re: Main Forum » Rethinking travel through bad biomes » 2019-11-19 22:17:10

There is one solution to solve these problems... Remove this shitty specialization update :P

jasonrohrer wrote:

Why:

  1. To make life in each parallel family feel unique

  2. To encourage players to explore outside of their village bubbles and find other families

  3. To encourage inter-family interaction, cooperation, and trade

  4. To encourage players to bridge language barriers between families

  5. To make climbing the upper reaches of the tech tree less linear, monotone, and certain

  6. To give you more complex, interpersonal challenges

  7. To partially model a beautiful facet of the real world, where different people from different areas specialize in different things

I think specializations update is the worst way to achieve these things. Why would you force us to do these things, why making them necessary and not optional... This game is getting less enjoyable, I hope you are aware of this.

#549 Re: Main Forum » Come on Jason, this doesn't fkin work » 2019-11-19 14:20:11

Yes I do, I do and did navigate based on springs with gradient. They often lead to dead towns. Maybe if everyone was searching each other... But nobody wants to do that, it's the least enjoyable thing to do.

Desert people is the best race. They can make horses, so looking for families is very simple. All they need to do is to find a jungle family. With newcomen pump they have lots of time. They can already make engine and prepare everything for oil rig, then all they would need is one ginger who would make them oil rig and some oil.

I just played as a black person, It was looking pretty good, we had many tires, many horses, working newcomen pump... But when I played as a non-specialist and ginger, it was terrible. Once we were out of water I went with one person to look for a town, we found 2 dead towns and then gave up :P

I mean, I don't find any joy in this update, do you?

We can't find even one family, and to make a newcomen pump we need all three specialist races.
Ffs, what do you expect we should do when we are running out of water and can't build newcomen pump? Spend our lives in searching other families without result? This is sick.
This shit now when many new players will come... Gj really.
It somehow worked before map wipe, because all things were out of biomes so we were able to get anything needed, but now it just won't work. Not a chance.

Things like this should be optional and not necessary. It should work more like this: Your family is out of oil but you want them to thrive even longer? Now it's the time to find help in other families.

This could actually even be fun. After reaching highest tech which is oil and engine it wouldn't be over. Oil will end sooner or later, and what then? It could be fun if specific races could craft specific parts that after connecting together would turn into something that could be connected to oil rig and give another couple of uses.

Wow, this could even make trading a real thing. "We both need to upgrade our oil rigs, we give you parts that we made if you give us parts that we need". Yeah, it wouldn't always work, one family could actually have upgraded oil rig or be too little advanced to make needed parts, but that's okay. It should be optional to get to that point and not something that would happen in every family at some point. It would give some wow effect every time people would see this new level of technology, because it would be probably a rare thing, an achievement that people would want to achieve, they would want to try to reach it, well, I would for sure.

Searching for other families could become exciting. Their technology isn't good enough to make parts that we need? Let's help them to advance.
