It was so much fun ! When you arrived Anoushka, we had a bit of a famine but somehow we managed to get through it thanks to Jebediah and Dante ! You guys were amazing.
...
But I'm glad you guys had a good time just like I did.

You're welcome and thank you! big_smile
I almost starved at around 10 years old when I ran back to the village during the famine, not knowing it had hit; I got to a wild berry bush at like two hunger points. yikes After delivering the two bowls of wild berries to the village, I used up some furs laying around to make a backpack and then hauled soil with the basket and backpack as the compost was taking its sweet time to ready up. I was relieved to see that women survived the famine! It was also good to see people scoop up the soil I was bringing in so I could keep on running back and forth. smile

Hahh, I see! It's no problem, I thought you were asking if I was the uncle who kept boasting about his strength as that was Platon but seems that there was another story afoot in the village. big_smile I was so oblivious, I couldn't keep up with the news as I spent so much time outside of the village! I just got pulled into some odd stories, kids asking if I was their father and hearing women call animals their dads or husbands!

They can't if they are newbies. Or if you hide/grief resources which is a common "coward tactic". It's nothing skillful to applaud someone for.
Just eat and click around and kill lone people who are minding their own business, maybe reading crafting things, teaching someone else, or focusing on things. You just have to slide in from above and click a person to kill them, maybe scream some rumour, like that's hard to do..

My guess is that you lured people away and killed them to get their weapons if they had some. No skill that, and only a naive or new player would go down like that so it's just being proud of beating up someone nicer or not as well equipped player as you were.

Not so hard when others don't have weapons and can't see far. It's like going to a park and kicking kids as an adult. The girls you catch are newbies if they can't run away and end up dead.

#679 Re: Main Forum » I TARRminated a town today ! :D » 2018-09-19 13:05:12

I will never understand what is there to boast about. Killing in OHOL requires no skill whatsoever, just run around until the server registers a hit or run in as someone types or works. Like "look how great I am stomping newbies!" ? Especially if one has mods to add to the advantage of having all the weapons.
I think showing off a dead town is more of a showcase of people being easy to wipe out rather than a skilled performance pulled off.

Yes I had a blast! Amazing place, amazing people. Sad how tragically it ended for you, your story was much sadder than mine. D: But lots of good moments for you too!

Haha yeah, Dante was easy to recognize. big_smile I think I had like three lookalikes in the village!
Sounds like Dante alright, being on top of the situation and doing what was best. He was handy with 'em feedings.

I was surprised how we had a famine, I went far to bring back bowls of wild berries to keep the villagers alive. At first I was worried the men caused the famine and doomed the place, but then I saw many old women in the last generation with no children at all or a lot of boys. You and Areya should have been more than enough to continue the line but wow, zero kids for both is crazy.

Were you the one who hugged me when I had no idea who was talking to who and I said "I am confus"? big_smile

Hi Anoushka! Glad to see you made the post!

Shoutout to all the amazing bros and men in this family, and ofc to the ladies too who did their best to keep the line going. The dice rolled against us this time, but it's okay.
I was Jebediah, forgotten at birth by the old mother Lycan, raised by berry farm boys, an uncle but firstly a blood brother of Dante. Usually running around in the wilderness getting soil or food or something else.

Peace: you were old as I arrived, but I could see you had been the backbone of the town, I had fun looking at you lifting the rock like Hercules.

---

Dante: my main man, my brother from another mother, thank you for the name and raising me. I had fun listening to you, Platon and your mother, it was one entertaining childhood. How thoughtful you were, urging me on to eat as I saluted you as a toddler, talking with my broken sentences. You surely were the leader-type, swiftly progressing the town. I had a laugh as you "locked" me in the animal pen! big_smile I wanted to get snake boots too when I saw you and Platon with some. Ahh, if only that boar hadn't gotten to you. I had seen it just before it got you, I was about to set off to get the bow and arrow when you went down.. I'm glad I got to say goodbyes! I spent my life getting a bow and searching for the boar as I patrolled the town. I ended up shooting a wolf while another man (Granger) went after the boar (but the boar got him too it seems). But yeah we ran out of girls... Thank you for everything! I hope I bump into you again. Oh yeah I buried you and Platon, too. I put an arrow on your grave, I wanted to shoot it through the boar's heart...

Platon: the strongman of the town, it was funny how you took after Peace, the man who lifted like a boss. I had fun goofing around with the weightlifting. Sorry for eating that burdock from your hands Platon, this is how I imagined it happened:
https://gph.is/19MuXer
I fed you a berry in panic, hoping I wasn't messing up a Yum chain but I was not risking you starving! You made me laugh with the whole last words thing, talking about beating up Dante in heaven, only to turn mellow and mutter how you miss him. I buried you next to Dante and put your snake boot on the grave. Thank you, it was fun!

Joe: thank you for feeding me in the berry fields with Dante!

Thank you guys! Jeff, Alex, Socorro, Kanta, Granger... everyone was so hardworking.

#684 Re: Main Forum » Triplets » 2018-09-17 18:27:25

Yeah it's a group of people who shared the code to spawn together and usually they are connected by a voice chat.
My triplet experience was that they seemed normal at first, then one died to a bear (the triplets may have woken it by themselves, who knows), then the two who were left waited until they got to teenage, got some knives and started killing women and girls. I did stop them but honestly, rarely they are worth the trouble (the good ones usually quit after one dies, so even the innocent ones are rarely worth it).

Ouch. I think I heard of this one before.

UnnoticedShadow wrote:

You want to die of Old Age so you get to respawn to your camp as a new Eve. You set a home marker and die to Old Age to trigger this. Connection lost, starvation or getting killed will ruin your chances to respawn back to your base.

#687 Re: Main Forum » Game Mechanics need to be reworked » 2018-09-16 12:25:47

Well, community splits apart with this. There are old pros who are eager to get to modern day technology while some others just wish for some polishing for the current situation and current tech stage so it'd stay fun and be solid.

There was a good phrase brought up in another thread; "The new tech needs to be needed". Due to crafting trees and available resources, it takes a lot to add all-around solid tech updates so they just come in "sprinkled" around the game, not as useful as they should be to be worth it to have them, sadly. This is the major weakness of tech-updates, for sure.

Some updates reset servers afaik, so building perfected bases over and over again bores some old, loyal players, who then ask for more tech in updates. I personally am happy for updates which fix some stuff and maybe sometimes grant things that just become a necessity to strive for, but due to having just one dev the interval may be so long that it takes months for some things to be worth it to have in-game.

Anyways, new tech could occupy some bored old players as the game has promised this for them, they want to play to advance, and now they are behind a wall in tech (no wonder, it's a slow development). These players often feel like when they finally get what they want, it's badly implemented. But if all updates are just fixing things, that starts to frustrate them too.
It's such a balance to dance on, but both do benefit the game at some point. There is little patience though, and I understand that completely too.

TL;DR: community's opinion splits with this, some want new tech, some want things fixed. Both are needed but the balance is difficult due to having one dev and lots of possibilities for developing. Everything takes time which frustrates some, and hastily implemented things frustrate people too.

and a lot of people who bottle up feelings, the girl who hates you cause you swap a sheep skin to take her inherited apron, and tries to kill you 40 years later
there are skills which might improve with experience: eating, scouting, high tier jobs like forging, shepherd
there are people who know some jobs but cant survive if not taken care of
there are who can survive 60 years but do nothing at all
scouting comes with survival i guess, also when you know that what is an adze and what is a tortilla station you know where you are in the city

you only remember the good ones

Noob griefers learn quickly so I still don't see it as a big deal if they communicate, they will anyways, maybe through reddit, I'd imagine that'd be the place. I rather have their griefing paused by Donkey Town so others can play without them for awhile even if Donkey Town has them communicating (as they still can find their channels to communicate easily with or without the Town). I've seen like one real noob griefer in my time of playing.

So you want to have revenge because of these kinds of people? What does a spiral of "I'll get my revenge" achieve? I guess some level of personal satisfaction, briefly, but that's not worth my time, personally. I've seen people who don't contribute, people who do sexist roleplay (the feminazi stuff), people who just walk to you and kill you, people who sit at a berry bush and die at the first famine, people who take others' stuff; all sorts of people who benefit from a better player's work. But I let that go, I know not everyone is like that. I play for my fun and in the process I hope my work benefits the next players who do their best to work and develop things towards better. Some work is ungrateful, some lives are ungrateful, people can act hastily and sometimes you get the worst of it. But thank goodness there are other lives after that. Or, if OHOL is starting to burn your nerves, other amazing games.

#689 Re: Main Forum » just not as fun as it used to be » 2018-09-16 07:43:48

I think OHOL is a game that has a wave-like lifetime when played routinely. Sometimes you may get a string of lives that are boring (or frustrating) to you, which drags down the gameplay experience. Now what is boring to people can differ but yes, at some point it turns dull, so take a break, have fun and come back excited and happy like many do!

I haven't had long breaks but I did stay away during butter knife murders and note&arrow glitch. I'm not bored yet, but have had "almost dull life" week or so ago; I was in a city that had it all and it took me a long time to figure out what to do so I could start a project for myself; I ended up being busy farming milkweed for thankful people who needed buckets and other things. That's probably dull to someone else but I actually never had to farm milkweed like that before. Belltower or a building would've been a fun challenge for myself too as I never have done those, even with almost two months of gameplay (but only like few lives a week). When I am absolutely not looking forward to a life when I am born, I will take a break.

#690 Re: Main Forum » Cursed Squad » 2018-09-16 07:24:39

I honestly see no point trying to become more vicious towards the "other" players. We are all gamers and players of OHOL so bickering and fighting over things like kids is just stupid, we all want good game experiences and we shouldn't mess others' just because 'our fun demands that'. Ofc people still do this so others deserve to have vacations off of the people who ruin their fun, griefers for majority and annoying noobs to you, I guess?

I also believe that most griefers are bored veterans who know how to cause the most damage in places, so you guys scheming over stuff and making connections is nothing new. I am just happy the players can separate to give breathers to both sides.

boggers wrote:

You know, one thing that I've seen work absolute wonders with dog-human food aggression, is practicing petting your dog while it eats. Its better to start as puppies, but can work on adult dogs too if you know what you're doing [and they're not to the point of snapping at you].

This is how we got to know she had some level of food aggression, so we removed the food bowl from her and scolded her, snapping her out of her growl. Then gave food from hand, then later tried again with the bowl; she stopped the growling very quickly with this routine. When she got the first huge real bone, she backpedaled a bit, becoming stiff and protective, growling deep over the bone. She was never that feral-looking ever before, which is why I said "turned into a very different dog". If she was a bigger dog I'd have been terrified, I was a kid. That was the only moment in her life when she actually seemed dangerous.
Anyways please let's not go too far off-topic here, my dog has been dead for two years (cancer got to her brain causing seizures). She was a dog with quirks, we don't know everything from her puppyhood, but she was a good dog who listened to orders and loved her family dearly. She got rid of food aggression completely way before she turned 1 (minus the raw bone) but was still obsessed with food through her life; trying to get to trash and trying to eat stuff outside on walks. But yes let's please leave it here, we are randos on the internet and we don't know the stories, I appreciate trying to help but it was not as bad as it may have sounded. I hope the insights may help others who somehow stumble upon these messages.

He did solve your problem by giving players the power of a soft ban (Which is always a terrible idea)

I disagree. Players still have to use the cursing and use it right, use their tokens and writing the right names etc. It's depending on players' actions to function at all.

If the non-cursed was a male he'd probably be killed sooner or later. Pein mentioned they'd keep non-cursed females but I don't think they can spawn non-cursed people.

But I am honestly happy if they are happier there. I see no need for trying to have some sort of clan mentality in this game where all players just want to play without getting frustrated; now cursed pros can avoid newbies and newbies can be in more patient environments. I think we all win this way?
