#51 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Decomposing Bones Have a Chance of Producing Fertile Soil » 2018-03-16 09:05:23

I say someone dying of old age should have a 50% chance of generating a milkweed on their tomb. Giving a reason for people to gather around them and praise their sainthood if it succeeds.

And that's culture!

And that's what I want to see emerge in the game.

This game gives an incentive to develop a culture, but puts a lot of hindrance in the way. As a result, the culture rather emerges on the forums. Transmitting things in the game right now is super hard. Can't talk unless you are older, some ages limited to one line of text, speech limited to one or 2 squares away, no way to put signs or instructions down.

Hopefully with enough settlements we should grow to a point where we can spend less time on survival and more on culture. When we get wooden-floored cities, clothes for everyone, well-tended milkweed fields, we may be able to spend more time talking.

#53 Re: Main Forum » what happend to the server 3 map post? » 2018-03-14 12:24:48

I love it. Somewhere lies our Babylon, the first city of roads ever to be born. The fabled box eden of eternal milkweeds. One day explorers may find it again...

#54 Re: Main Forum » Walled garden » 2018-03-10 07:09:19

I think it is Box Eden on the map. The very first touristic attraction of the universe! We have our fabled suspended garden.

The game world is HUGE. Milkweed won't run out. We may need expeditions to bring back the seeds though. Or move to saner places.

#55 Re: Main Forum » Item stacking » 2018-03-10 07:06:35

You can also use a shovel and dig a waste hole that allows you to throw away things like bones.

#56 Re: Main Forum » One Hour One Life PORTABLE! » 2018-03-10 07:03:40

The game is also open source. AS long as you keep it that way, you are free to port it to the Nintendo Switch yourself or fund an effort to do so.

#57 Re: Main Forum » New update brings new potential for total Civ Collapse. » 2018-03-09 15:44:39

My thought is that when you see there are seeds around and mature carrots, harvest them unless someone stops you. Also I have seen many civs having hidden "backup" plots already seeded with a full pouch/bowl next to them.

#58 Re: Main Forum » A map of villages and roads on server 3 » 2018-03-09 14:05:32

Suggestion for rosden: attribute to all villages on your map a symbol. A letter, a number, an enochian symbol, whatever... We may be able to draw a simple symbol on the ground, next to intersections.

#59 Re: Main Forum » [suggestion] [village management] Visual cues on Home Markers » 2018-03-09 13:57:53

I confirm that if I break my own home marker it becomes invalid.

Alternate suggestion to yours: still have one home marker per person but have it fall if the person dies. That's a bit magical, but face it: markers are. And we don't want to break someone else's compass but otherwise they just pile up.

Other suggestion: have a way to carve a totem that would be able to work as a home marker for many people. Have them do a mark with a sharp stone or a ritual on it in order to register it.

The cap was 200 when it started and was slowly put lower as lag made it unplayable. Jason is on it and a patch is due very soon (tomorrow I think).

should we show whether a town is active or inactive?

I think it changes too quickly to be manually modified. I confirm the road between Farmers Peak and Old Peak is there. Also, going from Old Peak to Midgard, I saw a junction going down. I did not follow it so I do not know if it leads to Southwick or Box Eden.

#62 Re: Main Forum » Thoughts on new March 8th, 2018 update » 2018-03-09 06:13:26

Note that having a wooden floor helps keep warm. I advocate for big, floored workshops.

#64 Re: Main Forum » Watching Your Descendents » 2018-03-09 06:06:24

I'd love that when you are born you have a message like "You are the 15th generation of an unbroken line. Make your ancestors proud."

#65 Re: Main Forum » Advancing Civilization == Starting from Fresh » 2018-03-09 03:50:06

Also an advice for starting Eve: Move. Find a spot with a real abundance of berries. You may actually stumble on a camp with a few items left. Raise one kid. Making a fire makes it easier (it keeps warmth) but is rarely achievable before the first pop.

#66 Re: Main Forum » Tribal Totems » 2018-03-09 03:42:42

Actually I don't really know about the proposed mechanics here, but having a totem that could serve as a shared home marker would be great!

#67 Re: Main Forum » Does the map ever reset? » 2018-03-09 03:39:05

Rather than a server wipe, I think we may see more decay on things that are today permanent. But this is a balancing act: some resources are not replenished (Reed, wood) so making things they produce non-permanent has to be done cautiously. I read somewhere that untouched objects were erased after a long time but I don't know how true it is.

#68 Re: Main Forum » decorations for the yellowbrick road? » 2018-03-09 03:35:26

Actually I think next time I log I'll build wooden boxes on each intersection, so that people can fill them with stuff they have scavenged here and there.

#69 Re: Main Forum » Priorities » 2018-03-09 03:33:07

Other tidbits:

- Create a fire near the nursery. Careful: too close to a strong fire while clothed will consume more food too. Explain to children that being in front of the big fire is a bad idea.

- I wish more people knew that wooden floor helps at not being cold. Crafting should happen on wooden floor if possible.

- In the last few games, my main source of clothing has been corpses. Take some time to explore around, especially if there is a road nearby. Last game I was like "Fuck it, I want to see the world a bit" I filled a basket of carrots and headed away naked. I thought I would be a net loss for the community. 15 minutes later I come back, fully clothed with a cart full of threads and additional clothing that I found in an abandoned camp where milkweed was growing untended.

We reach a point where scavenging is a serious option. There are probably more clothing sets in the server now (I don't think they disappear with time?) than there are players online. Find them, store them.

#70 Re: Main Forum » The Road » 2018-03-08 16:39:25

Please cut only trees in wetlands, not on green territory.

#71 Re: Main Forum » A map of villages and roads on server 3 » 2018-03-08 16:36:34

I finished the road going from old peak to farmer's peak. Well, at least I connected the southern part to farmer's peak, I haven't checked if the northern part is connected. It is a a low quality road for now :1 floor out of 3 or 4 tiles

#72 Re: Main Forum » Can we have a dead baby counter? » 2018-03-08 09:36:44

Actually we would just need a log of the deaths and births and we could compile interesting stats.

#2342 gave birth to #7897
#2342 gave birth to #7800
#7897 died at 0
#7800 died at 3

Let us manage the rest.

#74 Re: Main Forum » New Recipe/Recipes = Writing » 2018-03-08 07:12:44

I'll copy my suggestion from the thread where someone wanted to create labels for cities:

We could have pictograms of objects in the world and be able to engrave them on stuff. Don't write latin letters. And it could be a bit hard to do.

plank + saw -> blank sign
flint + blank sign -> sign ready to be engraved
sign ready to be engraved + hammer -> berry-sign with pick
berry-sign with pick + hammer -> baby-sign with pick
baby-sign with pick + hammer -> carrot-sign with pick
carrot-sign with pick -> wolf-sign with pick

etc...

So in order to name a place you would put a series of sign at a central or entrance place. Box Eden could for instance be "Wall-Milkweed-Wall" and one-line farm could be "Plot-Plot-Plot"

I am sure people will get creative to make offensive things but I would say that the "Baby Stick" city is a step up from "PenisTown".

EDIT: Actually you could do something like that today, but it is pretty hard: by putting the objects representing your desired name inside a walled enclosure so that no one can take them.
