I think the current system creates mistrust and hate in the community.
If you see someone with a weapon you have to either kill him first, or completely trust him.
A shield would give you another option, i like it.
If he kills you, it feels unfair. Every noob can pick up a knife and if you get stabbed its over for you.

Now if healing trough other people would be implemented, other people could save your life.
This creates positivity. You dont want to hurt the person who just saved your life.
Right now we have the option to kill but not to heal.
So if you want to do something bad you can, but if you want to do something good you cant.
The game encourages evil/bad behaviour. In order to protect yourself you need to kill.

#52 Re: Main Forum » Shields » 2018-04-30 05:52:14

But i still think the best solution to this problem is to add the option to get healed from other people.
So if you get injured you can run to someone and he/she uses an item on you to heal you.
This would make it much harder for a solo killer.

Also, hit points don't change anything.

They make it harder to murder, but also harder to kill griefers.

Same with armor or whatever.  And how would more weapons help?  Or making every tool deadly?

All those things would help murderers as much as town guards.

I dont know if he still thinks this way (i suggested hitpoints)

So is there a way for me to enable numbers lol
Would keep me from saying "i need  plates" "two"

sure, go to this line of code:
https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/ … .cpp#L1587

and include 1234567890 in the string.

Then compile and use the client.

nice, i guess you can also add small letters and other stuff "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.-,'?! abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789_#+*:;\"§$%&/()=\\@€[]{}~^°"
(i dident test it)

I wonder if jason is ok with client modifications and if so where does he draw the line?

good point, i think taking away cords right now would do more harm than good.

Go! Bwah! yes that was the direction i was thinking about.
I also like the idea of a shared community map.

#56 Re: Main Forum » Coordinates - possible to hide them? » 2018-04-29 18:11:19

But how do you obtain the real cords if the server never sends them to you?
If we assume that you cant hack the server / have no access to the server memory.
Lets say you spawn at 45,72 (you dont know that) and the server sends to you that you spawned at 0,0
How do you decrypt 0,0 to 45,72 ?
And then you die and spawn again, now you are at 33,25 but only the server knows that and he tells you again you are at 0,0
How do you decrypt 0,0 to 33,25 ?
If you move one field to the right you will be at 34,25 but only the server knows that and he tells you you are now at 1,0
The server doesnt need to send you to the real cords in order to work.
I still think there is atleast one way to get the real cords, but it has nothing to do with decryption and is probably difficult to achieve

#57 Re: Main Forum » Coordinates - possible to hide them? » 2018-04-29 17:35:39

kubassa its not about decryption. Imagine whenever you spawn, the field where you spawn will be 0,0 cords. The server knows the true cords, but it doesnt send it to you, it only sends cords to you that are relative to your spawn point 0,0. So you always get a different cord system whenever you spawn.
To break this you need get creative smile

So with the game tech works, if family line survival is your primary goal the ideal strategy is to never do any tech whatsoever, simply live from bush to bush and keep moving constantly. People don't really do that intentionally, but the low average player skill (which will always be a thing because experienced players keep burning out) combined with the diminishing productivity puts a hard cap on town duration. As you work through the tech tree you simply have to push ever harder and work ever more efficiently just to stay in the same place population wise. So towns naturally quickly fail and Eves are the norm, which boils down to players spending most of their time playing the ideal strategy of living off wild berries. Now how's that for repetitiveness?

That is the sort of thing that made me realize how productive cactus farming is. Get a nice spot with like 20 cactus, five per person and you can have a family of four live there indefinitely without doing anything. Though might still be a good idea to make a knife to kill all the snakes.

Dont worry, Jason will nerf cactus and berries aswell so you cant life like that anymore and doing tech will again make sense big_smile
(pls dont, i was just joking)

Balzabukas pls dont get offended so much by random words from random people.
You can decide how much power the words of others have, but you cant decide what other people will tell you.
Why does your happiness depend on what some random guy thinks from you?

#60 Re: Main Forum » What gets you banned in discord? Is "Telling to kill yourself" enough? » 2018-04-29 15:19:07

I think bans are only required if a person doesnt change his/her destructive behaviour after it being brought up a lot of times by other members of the community.
If there is no hope that a person can ever live peacefully together with the rest of the community.

#61 Re: Main Forum » What gets you banned in discord? Is "Telling to kill yourself" enough? » 2018-04-29 14:06:13

If Balzabukas wants to see a ban so badly, he should receive one

I think i was wrong, i was assuming he wants all the hate and that that would satisfy his will of destruction and hurting people,
but it seems like he doesnt want it lol, i dont know whats going on here.
If someone wants to be treated nice, he should treat other people nice, right?

So you grief and even post it on discord, to brag about it and then you get upset when people insult you?
lol, what did you expect will happen?

I would love to see that, but keep in mind that bot will also need to be able to survive on its on and craft or find bows an arrows, not an easy task.
Also what do you do about the killer cooldown? If the bot kills inside a village and other people see it, they might kill it.

The solution, without completely reimplementing the underlying transition engine, is a hybrid approach.

I did not read the source code, i have no idea how your game works and i am not the perfect programmer.
But this sounds like a dangerous problem to me.
Whenever i decided to not rewrite code in the past (because its super annoying and takes alot of time), i regretted it and in the end i rewrote the code anyways.
But this made me invest alot of time in dealing with a bad system, that i could have saved if i would have rewritten it immediately.
For me personally its no problem to wait several months before you make the next update (but i know alot of people see this differently)

Oh the bots are still here? Does this mean Jason allows them or that he cant get rid of them?

Notch is a terrible game designer. He had an interesting coding project, an idea that he just wanted to work on. He wasn't making a game for people to play, he was excited by a coding challenge that interested him.

I think this is also a reason why he was so successful, if you make a game you want to play yourself, it will be way more fun and you will be more creative. I think its impossible to program a game you dont like and be successful with that.

Xuhybrid wrote:

That's why he stepped back and eventually handed it over to his team Mojang and then Microsoft. Those developers fixed all the glaring issues and added so much content above and beyond anything Notch could imagine.

I played minecraft since the alpha, i cant remember any updates i liked since notch left. I dont care about cats in the jungle or new crappy textures. But what was really cool were all the custom modes people made, like factions/mcmmo/tekkit.

I am not being "rude" by expressing displeasure over these kinds of comments.

It is a natural human reaction to having someone wish that your whole life's work fails.  These kinds of comments displease me.

Also, my response was not worded in rude way.  I did not use rude language.  I simply explained my position.

I have been working on this game for three years.  That is a fact.  There is nothing rude about that fact.

If the commenter was claiming that I'm attempting to defraud people and run off with a bunch of money, that commenter is committing libel.  I shouldn't just stand by quietly while my "customers" lie about me....

For the record, after taxes, this game has brought in about $50K for each year that I have worked on it.  For a family of 5, that puts us slightly above the poverty line...

You want to reply to every troll out there? Thats what the trolls love.
Also if you reply in a peaceful way, people will be on your side instead of the side of the troll.
What positive effect do you hope to gain when insulting your players?
I cant see ANY positive effect. This is only for your ego and shows that you are unsecure about what you are doing.
I only try to help here, sry for being so mean, you can insult me if you want smile

Ok it seems like the bots got killed by jason:

jasonrohrer wrote:

I didn't want him artificially inflating the stats with bots, that is all.

Bots are welcome, but not if you're using them to live 14,000 lives in a few days.  That is a DOS attack, because it creates false statistics that are supposed to be real and reliable.  His review was falsely at the top of the list, so I removed it.  He did not play 500+ hours.  His bots did, 24-7 on all 15 servers.

I thinks its cool that he says bots are welcome if they are not harmful.
Its a bit sad that Santan is banned now, no afford was made to find a peaceful solution.
Sometimes good persons turn evil aswell as evil persons can become good.
But ofcourse i can understand Jasons point.

NEVER show any kind of aggression towards a player of your game.
Its irrelevant how much they insult you, you need to stay above this.
The people that insult you are harmless, be afraid of those who don't.
