Honestly removing homeland as well as race restrictions would be good too. It would invite the opportunity for multifamily towns to exist while making it more choice based rather than avoiding mechanics that make no sense. People used to get lost and end up raising kids in another fam all the time. It was cute and sweet.
If you can I highly suggest you revert the map to a version before banding was added. Diverse terrain made for a way more interesting experience when building a town or finding a place to settle.
Oh and it might be a good idea to remove the language barrier, that mechanic has never aided the overall experience of this game and really only promoted xenophobia and confusion.
Families living together like that was how people coped with race restrictions when they were first added. It resulted in one big town with every family living in it. As you can imagine this removed a ton of diversity because you would live in the same town every time you logged in. Jason didnt like this and people complained so he added homeland mechanics.
I tend to agree with this. Diversity of towns is vital to the total experience of this game. Removing race restrictions and letting families live autonomously is a better option. All we have gotten is a lot of bandaids layered on top of each other trying to make race restrictions work, when the previous system worked fine.
Yea accusing people of being alts is just silly. Further perpetuated the atmosphere that we're an unwelcoming community when we attack new members as if they're someone else. Just give people a chance. The discord is full of alts, so i can see where that attitude comes from. That said alts are pretty rare here. Villanelle is the only member i know of who has actively ever made alts on here. We should try to be welcoming to new people and give them a chance to express themselves before we make any judgements. Its good to see fresh faces. Who cares if they havent posted much. I was even accused of being an alt when i first posted on here lol. Which of course.. im not *puts pinky to lips*.
And like I've said before. There are tons of guests online every day. There are a huge portion of people who read rather than talk. If they choose to make an account and comment on something they're passionate about we should welcome it, rather than jump to conclusions.
I think we all had that moment that hooked us. I'm curious what your experience that really got you invested in this game. Was it a certain life, a certain mechanic, the community, an individual you met in game, a satisfying task, etc.
For me it was my first eve run. The server was bugged and the read write function was glitched. Anything we made would reset after about 5 min. It resulted in a lot of nomadic fams that just explored checking out stuff. The natural food would never run out so food was unlimited and we could all eat our fill off of one plant. I played all night. One fam we all just hung on the desert edge eating berries, chilling, and chatting. Another we explored for thousands of tiles, sticking together. That companionship and community element felt unfiltered in that environment and it felt apocalyptic. Surviving by the seat of our pants and having fun together. Brought in the weight of family and community that made me fall in love with the game. Eventually i became a strong eve. Especially in the rift times. Many of you might remember me from then. I was last fam more than most. Maybe 20 something times. Mostly during the early arcs. I loved that stuff. Since its been lost and families are really only defined by their race. Its depressing. The restrictions in tie with eveing and family weight is what has turned me off since.
I want to hear your stories and what got you invested in this chaotic mess of a game.
Oh and it might be a good idea to make sure the eve glitch still works on your server. The one that is active on low pop but not the main server. Where if you die at 60 when you're eve you spawn in the place you die the next time you spawn as eve. It will make the server feel more alive even with a lower pop and enable active users to work on big projects long term.
I could see car keys being heavily griefable.
It would be nice to see a server that embodies the game before fences and etc were necessary or heavily used.
There was a great point in early 2019 that would be a nice model. Pre war swords, pre rift. Late 2019 is when things really started going down hill and it hasnt gotten better. I wouldnt suggest perpetuating systems and status quo that has become common since then. Race restrictions, hierarchy, leadership, homeland, tap out, kill mechanics, etc. We used to have 100+ on the server regularly and it was stable. Everything thats been added has only made things more unstable and boring.
I agree somewhat with fencing since the way they function is tedious at best. That said I think gates are extremely valuable. Walled cities a perfectly fine, especially if theft and raids become common. Which may happen if the remaining artificial boundaries and systems are removed. It would take a large amount of effort to make a truly secure vault or city with ancient walls. Having secure access to something like that is valuable, but being able to make an invincible vault within an hour or so is dumb. Property fences are cheap and highly abused. But the gates are quite the asset.
Who are you talking to?
Removing banding, race restrictions, and leadership would be a good move. All the artificial mechanics that force players down a set path have only stifled this game. Its worth considering removing those elements so that choice driven play styles can return. No more magic.
I think you've confused the forums with the discord. Our cocktail is more thoughtfully berating each other as we spiral down the endless abyss of insanity.
The forums have honestly felt like a wake for a few months now. Its interesting dont get me wrong. But we hardly talk about the game anymore and activity is hardly what it used to be. Except for when spicey drama hits the shelf like this. We used to have 4+ page discussion about the structure of this game and theorizing about how things work or dont. Instead its basically just the 4 of us who still talk here and when we're lucky we have others chime in.
The forums still get a lot of traffic, but I imagine the content will eventually run dry.
P.S.Was that really necessary discarded?
I think we could just make this easier by making race restrictions enable when the main server is above 260, server 1 is above 400, and the rest are above 160.
I added a 9th and 10th question for those interested.
Thanks for the inspiration Chivalry!
Fair enough but it will be beneficial to tread lightly surrounding this topic. Especially since screenshots would need to be provided and or proof that it was indeed villanelle on the other end of that phex user name. I struggle to see how they would still be playing if they had recieved a refund but maybe im confused. Not claiming or defending anything. I just suggest a great deal of caution when making any accusations or judgements surrounding this. DDOS attacks are serious crimes and could set up whoever is responsible up for jail time or at least a sever penalty. Trust me you dont want to be even a little bit responsible for falsely accusing someone and destroying their life. We need solid proof. Guessing a presumptions are not a good idea when analyzing this serious crime. I get the community is upset and i shouldnt be surprised by reckless accusations and possible scapegoating. But we need to be cautious, for our own sake and for the sake of others. Its one thing to not like someone, its another to accuse them of a serious crime and ruin their life, especially without tangible proof.
Wowie, what do we have here?
First off im a little confused about the proof that Villanelle/Whip/Lama/Katz is responsible for the ddos. The original author very clearly states it was without a doubt them, but i dont see any proof of that. Destiny also mentions "they are obviously taking credit for these attacks". Did they edit their messages to remove those elements of guilt or are we reading too much into their comments? Sure they dont openly deny it, but they also dont openly admit it. At least as far as I can tell. Its fine to be upset with Villanelle for however they acted but accusing them of a serious crime without solid proof is not a joke. Im also not a fan of how the author of the thread called out dodge. As if he had a serious influence on making this ddos attack happen. That is no joke either. In some countries dodge or villanelle could be put in jail for suspicion before their trial for statements like that. You would also be liable for slander if you were wrong and could face jail time. This shit is not a joke so you better have proof if you're going to throw around accusations like this.
Wild stuff but good that its promoted better server security.
They're so obviously not though, lol. I think their point is valid about kicking someone when they're down, really no point in doing it unless you find gratification from it. Though i do think discarded's post was relatively mild in the scheme of things. That said, destiny, you've been in the community long enough and been so prolific on these forums that if the bad elements were to rub off on you they would have by now. So i think its all good. But the presuming everyone is an alt seems kind of trendy atm and is unwelcoming. We never know who's on the other end and its best to give them the benefit of the doubt before we make fools of ourselves jumping to conclusions.
It seems like someone is testing a program to pull off a full scale ddos. Considering it only worked on the main server they may be trying to ddos all servers. First time was a test run, second is trouble shooting, next one might be the killer. Hopefully jason can figure out where this is coming from and how they are able to run this attack and get it sorted. I was confused if jason put a stop to the last one or if the attacker just stopped. If the attacker just stopped they might be refining it which is bad news for the game.
Not sure about the first part. But the second part is pretty straight forward. When you log out or your game crashes, your character stays alive until they starve. If you have ever seen someone feeding an afk this is often the case. If you attempt to log in again you will be reconnected to that existing life.
1) If you could sum this game up in one word, what would it be?
2) If you could sum up this game in one sentence, what would it be?
3) If you were going to give this game a slogan, what would it be?
4) If you could add one thing to the game, what would it be?
5) if you could remove one thing from the game what would it be?
6) If you could choose the mascot for this game, what would it be?
7) If we were to vote a prom queen & king of ohol, who would they be?
8) How many hours have you played, what keeps you playing or what made you quit?
9) What was your favorite moment or memory while playing? [EDIT]
10) What was your worst memory while playing this game? [EDIT]
Feel free to answer any of these at random, just be sure to number them so we know what you're referencing.
You know it!
What about a wall of fire and death that slowly crushes us into oblivion only to start all over again in fear of that eventual oblivion. Over and over again until we go insane. Sound fun to me! ![]()
I think destiny was stating more that if you step on toes you get kicked. Sure it could be percieved as a "beware of big brother" deal. But thats less about supporting said big brother and more about concerns of what big brother might do to you. In a way they were trying to look out for you, in their own way. Sure it might be overly cautious and it might take standing up to people to promote real change. Sure being cautious might enable further misbehavior by those in power, and by promoting caution it could be percieved as enabling or defending that behavior in a transitive sense. Though i dont think that was the heart of their intentions. I dont think either of you are wrong in your point of view but because of where you stand and move towards this issue you bump into each other. Just because you bump into each other doesnt necessarily mean you're blocking each other from where you're going. Its ok to disagree about where we stand and where we're going. But micro analyzing and estimating each others intentions really only makes us seem like fools and sets us up to offend each other. With a little distance things are relatively clear. Just know that you believe what you believe and try to understand each other to the best that you can.
Really?
Is this what the forums have become?
I was hoping for some narcissistic god complex manifesto of how great you are but we get this?
