What are your top low-tech objects or tweaks you want to see implemented in the game? I'm not talking about locomotives or television. Here are some suggestions:

04-09-12-Schaupfl%C3%BCgen-Fahrenwalde-RalfR-IMG_1232.jpg

- Plough (!)
- Lighter (!)
- A new food (fish stew?)
- More stuff to do with clay (even art)
- Table (can contain items, saves space, alternative to box)
- Less shovel cost to dig up potatoes

#53 Re: Main Forum » Philosophy on finite resources » 2019-01-12 21:06:52

Finding iron is never impossible, but I it can be a really boring job. And the sheer thought that it is finite is quite discouraging. That's how I feel. I'd love to have a way to upgrade a mine or something like that. But I think Jason wrote about this somewhere and if I understand correctly, he wants towns to die out, people to migrate and start over. Iron would force you to do that at some point.

Isn't the mobile version created by Jason??????????

Nope, as stated in the description (if we are talking about the same game):

"This is the unofficial expanded version of Jason Rohrer's desktop game "One Hour One Life", adapted for iOS. We have added additional play modes as well as changes to make it play better on touchscreens. We are independent developers and the mobile game world resides on our servers."

#55 Re: Main Forum » Why is the pc version more uncomfortable than the mobile version? » 2019-01-12 12:38:06

The mobile version is not official, it's made by others and played on other servers. The game is open-source, some people have provided translations. You could incorporate those features you talked about yourself.

I started making arrows out of unfinished snowmen. I know they are not the most obvious arrows, but still recognizable IMO. Very easy and quick, but very griefable.

About your griefing concern, I'm not sure, but I think griefers would rather grief the city where they can get a reaction. Can't imagine them being interested in these signs. God knows what's going on in their heads though.

That's so sweet. Although the first story is sad, the wolf cheated!

I only read notes from the library or church to my kids.

#58 Re: Main Forum » One City Server » 2019-01-10 07:42:12

Uhm... FYI, someone started this project, and left a note. I also found endstones in Xizzy town. Should I be worried?

To open a fence gate or door, you do not need to put down the object you are holding.

(Neither do you need to get off your horse)

Uhmm... I only remember Jason complaining about that. Sure, people always wanted more content, but the response was like "You guys are too fast, instead I'll destroy all you built so you will be busy rebuilding." It's a fail in my opinion and borders with malice (sorry for sounding like a resentful snowflake, I do still love the game and respect what Jason is trying to do.)

Please, can someone explain what there is to like about the Apocalypse?

#61 Re: Main Forum » How Many People Play OHOL and How Much? » 2019-01-08 13:09:04

Is there a way to know your ID and to check whether you are on that "top 10 list" for example?

Also how and where do you access all that data? And what do you use to parse it? I'd like to learn. Not asking for a guide, just a bit info that can get me started.

And great work, really intriguing. Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Forget what I said, I found the original thread and it's too overwhelming to me right now. For those who had the same questions as me: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2529

#62 Re: Main Forum » One City Server » 2019-01-07 17:54:30

I wanted to say a few things;

I love the Yum-On station! I love it! It's a dream. I feel tempted to build walls around it so it stays there forever. Whoever made it, kudos. I didn't even know rabbit/berry/carrot pie was a thing!

I love how people are building their homes... Never seen that before. And I don't mean the suburbs, where people make another town, but just the little individual homes with no purpose. I'll have to make my own. I was "living" in the abandoned Grizzly Palace ruins. But someone murdered my pet bears, Bonnie and Clyde, so now I avoid that place.

I started a zoo, north of the northern town. I've never done that. If someone has any advice, please help. Is there a way to bring a living wolf? (But not the tame wolf, as it dies).

After that bad update recently I would have probably stopped playing OHOL if it wasn't for this server. Thanks so much for making it possible.

#63 Re: Main Forum » We did the Apocalypse! » 2019-01-07 17:08:57

Why does anyone care, with the new Eve spawning, towns can't live longer than a few days anyway.

The Apocalypse is lame and makes no sense, but I'm glad for the people who had fun doing it.

#64 Re: Main Forum » One City Server » 2019-01-04 11:45:41

I founded the northern town, Onetopia. Need to make a sign. Wake up! Your dead hours are my waking hours. sad

#66 Re: Main Forum » What's the funniest thing you've named your baby? » 2018-09-20 11:19:14

I was Eve and had a son who did not run upon birth(!)

To express my gratitude, I named him "Handsome Butt" and expected him to say C...O...O...L or N...I...C...E.

Instead, he jumped off my arms and summoned a grizzly. His last words were:

BA...D...NA...ME.

#67 Re: Main Forum » To My Love » 2018-09-17 11:30:09

Hi mom, greetings from Evea (who killed your griefer daughter Elena). I'm glad to see your wife. So far I only heard about her. How do you identify each other across lives??? yikes

#68 Re: Main Forum » List of skilled player on forum » 2018-09-17 11:24:54

Oh hello skilled Eves, I was born to all of you. Recently Sol, Tarr and West lots of time. Thanks for raising me.

I often change my surname but now I wish I don't because I'm genuinely interested what my kids think about me.

I can only assume what they would say... "She never settles!" (have high criteria for home!), "She never eats!" (temp lock FTW!).

Often my surname reflects the surroundings where I spawned; Savannah, Ice, Tree, Wolf, Rabbit... Sometimes Dragon, Batman, Butt or Thunderhawk. Let me know if you recognize me. I'm playing every day, since v.56.

#69 Re: Main Forum » Dogs » 2018-09-17 10:56:39

There is not purpose; dogs are moving, eternal pieces of trash. But someone made a suggestion on the official Reddit. Upvote it or make your own:

Was that the Polar-family town?

I don't care much for/about griefing, but I love having dogs everywhere.  It gives the game some life and visual interest.  I would much prefer to just sit on the desert edge and watch dogs run around than obsess over maximizing my yum meter.  It'll be even better if/when they get personalities and hopefully emergent behavior.

Unfortunately people have to go through a lot of trouble to make this happen, building sheep pens and all.  Maybe I'll make a custom server where you don't starve and you can feed dogs berries... but then again, maybe I won't.

Also:

Auner wrote:

look, in real life

This ain't real life.  You can overpopulate dogs in a game and still have good relationships and stand up for what you believe in in real life.  You can also play Monopoly to win and not try to bankrupt people in real life, or play chess to win and not try to kill your opponents in real life.

It's *you* who wished real-life problems on somebody due to (not really that) bad behavior in a game.  I don't think you should be lecturing anybody.

Well, Monopoly and chess are competitive games, whereas in OHOL there is no inherent playable opponent.

Besides, when you play chess, you can take the maximum time for each round, lets say. You can do it for the lolz, because you know it will annoy your opponent and the audience. It's not against the rules, though it does makes you a pity asshole IRL.

While playing Monopoly, you can insult your opponents all the time. Their reactions might make you lol. Not against the rules. But still, makes you an asshole IRL.

#71 Re: Main Forum » Dog-Related Itens and Mechanics » 2018-09-17 10:13:43

I must confess. I made a request on Reddit. About... Dogs. *shiver*

It wasn't my idea, but I helped drawing Jason's attention to it. Though, I thought they will be hard to get, rare, like horses. I thought that towns will barely manage to have one or two dogs. I thought that the dogs will have a purpose, that they will be helpful. I never asked for a Dogocalypse.

Instead we got this mess with moving pieces of trash ruining every other town.

I agree with you and would like to urge everyone to upvote this new suggestion someone made on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/OneLifeSuggest … _training/

I hope Jason fixes it soon so I can start playing again.

I don't know, have wondered the same but wasn't brave enough to test it. :-(

unless something has changed,  you wont, i've often switched between main and my private place on empty server

Wait, what is quiet vs. main server?

I usually play in server 1 and I can't manage to be respawn after dying as old Eve. In the past I believe it happened much more easily—even several times in succession. Is it because I'm set to custom server, even if it's one of the official servers?

Hiding or locking up knifes for example makes people make more knifes because they need them for sheep, bread, butter, surgery, snakes, etc... Keys of course disappear and in no time you have a town with 20 locked up knifes. It doesn't make sense and it's a waste.

A bit off topic, you guys said "marry", is there a procedure / way to marry? Or is it simply symbolic saying "Will you marry me"? smile

It's symbolic and depends on what culture you are from; e.g. carrot fanatics marry differently than the folks from the tribe of the cave bear.
