A lot of the griefing stuff is not intended and can potentially be fixed. Killing people is allowed and is okay, but doing things like placing an object to block people isn't and was fixed with this last update. I am thinking they need to make it so if you dig up something, you have to remain stationary for a second. That isn't much of an inconvenience for normal players, but if someone is doing it to grief then they have to stand still, so you can actually attack them.
Yes like with the slow for murder, if you dig a berry bush it takes 3-4 shovels with loud digging sound accompanying it. Pick a non fruiting milkweed, you are attacked by "noisy buzzing" bees or flying bugs for 3-4 seconds, snare a rabbit with no baby maybe have the "jack" rabbit chase you (while squeeling his displeasure) and bite your feet for 3-4 seconds for killing his "jane". Also this way if you did it by accident you are alerted, if you are new you might stop and think before continuing the same action. Make carts so you can "anchor" them or maybe remove the wheels and handle to make them boxes again. This way it is not so easy for thieves to steal. Or make them lockable with an actual key that is bound to a player so they need lockpicks to open it (a time consuming and obvious process).
He's not griefing; after playing some Farcry 5, I suspect that he's like playing so called real life example of a sociopath that claims he is a "reincarnation" of a savior that tries to kill you, and you only, like you are some marked-man... like Taken.
Jokes aside; having players to "randomly" assigned to any "random" family is really how the game works; by assigning a "family" concept really goes against Jason's perception of why he doesn't want to friends just spawn right next to each other; however, I think some modders in this forum already implemented some codes in their custom server with the coordinates feature.
The problem with this is babies suicide to get back to their spawn point of choice. I saw a streamer being non stop stream sniped by a stream sniper, who purposely died, just to get back to the town the streamer was in so they can have their 5 minutes of fame on twitch. I know I have given birth to the very demon I just killed, who grows up and kills me for no reason (revenge for a past life). If this is what Jason wants then he needs to take away the ability to choose the server you spawn on. Or come up with another solution to mass baby suicide runs from mom.

Pardon me? Is that a strange foreign tongue or are you choking on too many carrots?
It would be nice to see a writing system implemented, reeds make paper (need a tool)? Feather and dye for ink and pen?
Post the laws on a wall only?
When you mouse over it says "first law" and has one sentence.
Each successive law needs a new paper and ink and pen and a wall to put it on?
Maybe need a crown to make laws?
Laws can be "enforced" with no punishment for the "enforcer"?
Maybe it is just me but the time and effort to tell a baby that types ... I ...A ...M ...N ...E...W, all these laws over and over gets tiresome and time consuming.
This way you build walls around farms and post the laws at the door.
Maybe also have the crown able to make another "writ" besides laws to bestow power on others. Or use a knife/sword to knight someone as an enforcer of the laws.
This is the law, only enforcers shall wear the wolf in city limits.
And so on, make the crown more then mere decoration? Although I have had soe great RP with crowns to date.
I like the idea of some sort or reward and punishment karma system. Not sure how hard it might be to institute.
I also would like to see the points from this system go toward profession titles. If you farm a lot you become a farmer, if you killed you become a criminal or some such. A way to permanently tag you for others.
Maybe you need a witness to "tag" you as criminal? That way killing a killer might not get you "tagged" or if others "believe" your it was an accident story.
The way things work in game is actually opposite of real life. In point of fact, China had a one child per family law. So Chinese parents would abort female fetuses and only have boys. Today in China, Chinese boys have to find wives from Korea or Vietnam since there are not enough women.
Lineage in almost all cultures was through the male descendants. Maybe that might be a better solution to this family crisis. Eve's no longer can make family names, add Adam's in and only they can do that, Eve's have children that is their thing.
Men with a name can bequeath said name to an Eve through marriage and children through adoption. The man would need an item to do so, wedding ring maybe, but not gold since it is so rare? This would make the family unit a real thing, but make the item used disappear so it has to be re-farmed and keep everyone from becoming one big family? Or maybe make it so the man can only "marry" one eve (unnamed adult woman) and adopt 3 children?
Then any male children can also marry once and adopt children. If a married Eve has a child it is named for the Father.
Suggestions or "constructive" criticism?
This is a game people - focus on actual game-play problems like griefers, not this kind of nonsense.
So killing me because I spawn in as a boy is not griefing me? I like to play as a boy and my opinion is just as valid as yours. You are griefing my suggestion by calling it nonsense, when I believe it is a perfectly valid point.
I am not bothered by the pvp aspect, is that what you call griefing? I am killed more by my own mother starving me then anyone with a knife or bow.
Now idiots and trolls destroying animal sites, milkweed, digging up wild bushes ....that can actually destroy your ability to live somewhere. But it is all part of the game and Jason added it knowingly. I believe your whining about griefing is the problem here, at least in my opinion, which I have every right to state, contrary to your opinion.
As a game about parenting and civilization building, there should be rewards for doing said actions.
If you make things, grow things, have babies and successfully raise them to work age. You get points.
If you grow enough food you can get the title apprentice farmer, make pies the title apprentice baker. Increasing to farmer, baker, adept farmer/baker. Expert farmer/baker, master farmer/baker, grandmaster farmer/baker. Anything that you do gives a title you can display (you pick an old title as soon as you get a certain age, and can only build points on that title though). You had to do a job to pick the title progression for next life.
So you are new and have no title, but start farming carrots and become an apprentice farmer. If you did not pick a title you can only gain apprentice, and have to choose that profession next life to get more points in it. Make walls, stonemason, make tools, smith, weapons for weaponsmith. Bows and arrows, bowyer fletcher. Hunt bears and wolves, hunter.
And make no titles or points towards destroying things and killing people, except maybe if you kill a killer who murdered an innocent? Anyway just some thoughts on encouraging civilization building as opposed to the destroyers and griefers who earn no points and waste that one hour life.
Currently I really feel like this game hates and shames males/boys. This needs to change for the better.
a multiplayer survival game of parenting
and civilization building by Jason Rohrer
parenting not female parent ...please add some way for men to be part of this process and hence respected members of the civilization. Maybe make men better at killing bears and wolves? there is a tendency in game to starve and kill baby boys, this is actually the opposite of how things are done in ancient civilizations. The boys were the most valued not least, how about let men take a wife, add marriage ...then there is a Father. The children of this union will be part of the male line.
If a civilization is down to only men, then can strike out and find an eve or a girl from another village (this was quite common in tribes that had no girls) marry her and carry on the family name. Please reconsider this hatred for males and male parentage. Make this a true family game and add marriage, make men great again.
As this is a game of parenting, and it takes a man and a woman to parent. It would make boys a viable player option without murdering them or starving them because "Sorry bby I need a girl" maybe let an eve have one virgin birth maximum with no men around (I'd prefer none)
Make women have a pregnant buff so they know a baby is coming. Require a man to be within a certain radius (or better yet an interaction button for making babies) for the woman to get pregnant, no man ... no babies. This will help control population problems and make men a viable commodity. If a player runs off as a baby and dies several times in a row, put them on a 5 minute (or longer) cool down from login. Too many suicidal babies these days that are meta-gaming or want an easy life.
I really love this game and the concept, but the miracle birth thing is so unrealistic and annoying to boot. The poor treatment of men because they are not necessary for birth is a complete fallacy. I love playing as a man, you get way more work done.
I realize players need to spawn and babies make that happen, maybe add an Adam as well as Eve for random spawns if no women are pregnant.
Make this a real game of family and parenting not some fallacy of miracle births from the sky.
The eve could spawn a few years younger, not of baby making age to help offset that she just spawned in the wilderness and needs to find foo and a home.
I ran into an entire village of invisible people, ran away and came back several times. Still invisible, the last time they killed me and I respawned as a baby in their village, that is how I know it was an entire village of like 15 people. This invisibility thing is currently the biggest problem in the game. I hope Jason is able to fix it soon. I love this game and have had some exciting battles with murderers. But stabbed or shot by someone you never saw ruins the game play.
