i have to say, i am pretty bad
& that i spawned before the apocalypse near or in a settlement decent or even well running, stuffed with all sorts of goods, didn't help to sharpen my basic survival skills
now, if i spawn as kid, then i am just running away to die because i didn't manage so far a single family as Eve, still just trying
my main goal for now is to be good enough, efficient & quick enough to survive as Eve & to keep at least one daughter alive to have grandchildren
the last time, mildly successful i died alone, because i just couldn't manage to support a child, let alone children, i was barely staying alive & i was settled not bad at all
i had prairies nearby with rabbits & carrots
settled near a juniper tree & managed for the second time since i play the game, to make fire, this time even actually not burning the rabbit but producing finally lots of needles
downwards there were quite a lot of berry bushes, so the minimal survival was guarrantied
there were no bears, no wolfs & i met briefly only one snake nearby
milkweed was little short & on the way to that place where i finally settled, at the edge of prairie, i was able to make a basket & gather the two stones
above the prairie to west was swamp, where i could have get water, if i would have been quicker, i managed only to water the first carrot field & the first domestic berry bush
then i died at age of 58 in the prairie
i hope one day i will do better
all my other attempts were rather catastrophic, the most sad part is when the child is better than me & when the child still a kid, survives me as a mother, still young with 25 years

Even if it is turned off, the "for now" part really puts me of this game.
I loved it, played a lot.
I just can't see myself investing hours on building civilization, if it is to be wiped out in a jif, not because of some engine rewrites or something like that, but because the creator has a f*cked up vision about what this is game is supposed to be, pissing off everyone to solve a problem that wasn't really a problem, without even asking for input from the comunity.Grrr, how dare a designer do what they believe is best with their art, don't they know I paid them money? That means they owe it to me to consult me on any changes made! how DARE Jason do something he was planning from the start in a way I don't approve of to solve a problem that doesn't bother me specifically, how totally rude and inconsiderate to all the people who built those civs that the rest of the servers then spent the next several weeks picking up instead of building for themselves!
exactly my thoughts ![]()

the main thing that bothers be though with the apocalypse is not that cities are being wiped out but that families are being as well
if there are no cities, then there are only new Eves in nowhere, all the family trees are dead with the apocalypse
the game became unbalanced after that update, yep
& it makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever to even bother to name anybody in this game since the quickest next apocalypse will wipe out all servers, private included if on the last update
so why are there names in this game at all ?
names became useless & that makes me quite demotivated
- - -
the other issue is the scarcity of the map, it takes simply too long to run naked from one biome to another in search of all things needed to get somewhere
spawned as baby to an Eve the communication is quite funny but totally dysfunctional
the scarcity of the map was already before an issue but one could have hoped to find some sort of a settlement & go from there, now one knows from the beginning that everybody is doomed because of those players whose only goal is to speed run for gold & monolith
one server successfully causing the apocalypse wipes everybody else's efforts

so really
needs heavy balancing
custom servers unplayable due to version mismatch
version mismatch: client 73 -- server 1
i don't think this game was initially meant to be about apocalypses, same as it was not meant to be about digging up berry bushes & killing with knives & arrows
yeah, needs adjustment
i managed right now to age 25 with 2 children, didn't even bother to name anybody
so rather 25 min of life, not even half an hour, not OHOL
it will all mutate to the few remaining players rushing out to play right after the apocalypse because otherwise you won't get nowhere ![]()
& i have to say
i have a life, don't spend it entirely in front of the PC waiting for the next apocalypse to start playing ![]()
i upvoted you
cheer up, don't obsess, relax ![]()
What I loved about OHOL was that this was a MEANINGFUL place to make a small change. It was a breath of fresh air in a time full of all these games where you could do the same shallow quest over and over again in a world where nothing would ever change. Here I would make a few clothes, fix the fence, extend the road. I would spend one hour making it better for everybody, hoping it would actually last enough to, gradually, make a change.
how many games out there provide what Jason are acomplishing right now with OHOL ?
Before the update, only one. After the update, zero.
there are several settlement/town builders out there, where this, to build, is their main goal, quite many even rather well made
OHOL was never really about mainly settlement building, you just ignored the signs, they are all there, all the death happpening along the way, babies dying, young mothers killed by wolves, in one hour is one life with one name wiped out forever - this game IS SAD, makes me tremendously melancholic, the music ...
but this is how life is, we just prefer not to think about it, it would make most of us depressed all the time
breezeknight wrote:i will try to explain why i like that apocalypse update
1. it circumvents all the problems with griefers (no tools of destruction easily available by stealing from & shiting on all those who can make them)
2. it prevents the servers from exploding (it's an open world management game with the usual problems usual players are not aware of mixing it up with limited prescripted RPG/FPS)
3. it cleanses all the giant monstroCities (sorry unbound builders)
4. players remaining are true fans of the OHOLBut i spend many lives in building a giant storage in a big city just to see how it gets destroyed by a apocalypse.
but im not mad its just pretty sad. i made my first house i was pretty proud of it and whenever i spawned at that village i was going to build my house bigger and make a farm next to it. and now its just gone. my first building.
atleast griefers cant destroy villages anymore because there arent any villages left.
but i still will be playing the game. but i wont really play today because someone is trying to speed run apocalypses so i dont see why i need to build things if its getting destroyed the same day.
sorry to say that but
i invested many hours in games & franchises which got wiped out, & that's just about games, so ... that's how it actually is IRL
in that respect is this game indeed simulating RL, that makes it to something more philosophical than just another settlement builder
stickyflypaper wrote:I'm... still confused? Why is this a thing?
My crazy guess... The servers can't handle the number of objects that get created so the solution was to make it easy to wipe out a server. Talk about taking griefing to a whole new level...
yep
but rather griefing of any form of griefing
make your suggestion here, so we all can vote
Only problem now is that people are trying a speed run for apocalypses they are making the third apocalypse right now.
looks like OHOL is the true indie Live Service model ![]()
so just relax, if you still like this game, stay on board, participate, make suggestions, discuss

after i've been burned by several game devs with their "visions", droped projects, incomplete "games" & buggy messes, i might be starting to trust Jason with this one, i am quite new to this game, so for now i just look out for how i can have fun on the road of OHOL ![]()

I agree that it doesn't seem fair that one person is able to reset the whole server. You just gave griefers the best tool they need...
i doubt it that any of the griefers is able to accomplish this task at all, lol
anyway, the apocalypse is griefing to griefers ![]()
no shovels to dig berry bushes, no steel axes to chop trees down, no bows/arrows/knives to kill
just the plain fight for basic survival again, either you make it or rather not, lol
cleansing - yay !
they are prob down or whatever
there are not enough people playing OHOL still to keep it all alive
which server do you attempt to join ?
move the folder to your desktop
from there it works smoothly for me
had the same problem originally

me trying to find my key to be born... how do i get my key?
@zapgamingg
it's in the game registration email
if you bought the game that is
definately cool ![]()
i make lots of farming too, it's calming & basic, no rush
as long there is someone looking out for the soil, i'm good with farming & taking care to get enough seeds
if not, i still can make soil myself
i progress slowly, first master farming, next is basic making of clothes
never baked a pie, never cared for any of the animals aside of running away, never bothered with smithwork, never spend time with woodwork
one day it will be the case, but first Mastership in Farming, second Basic Clothes ![]()
@Laura
i think too that the murder needs some nerfing & solutions into the hands of peaceful players
but
maybe you should relax, it's indeed just a game
in this game people who play bloody FPS, RPG & combat RTS meet those who play city builders, management games, The Sims (probably) & all sorts of casual games - it clashes
to answer with violence is not the right thing - never
if you don't like the current state of the game - take a break & play something more calming
& if it never gets sorted out - ask for refund
Alleria wrote:Drakulon, are you the one naming all your kids "Faith" and "Hope"? I love people that make an effort with naming.
That might be me, Hope, Courage, Survivor. Game butchers the names I give my kids but I try.
On topic: I mean if my parents didn't give me a name and gave 0 shits about me i might also have become a serial killer, who knows. So you do you my dude.
if you survived to self sufficiency & were given milk by your mother then that player cared a great deal
but you will probably have loved all those mothers who gave me a name & then i starved to death ![]()
maybe you both play already in HELL ![]()
this will definately encourage new players to play further & not ask for refund as a violent experience instead of a constructive fun
