While I agree with the need of more realistic water elements I disagree we need wells to be buildable anywhere. It is part of the fun that you need to stay close to water, or build cisterns if you wanna expand somewhere else. Thing is there is absolutely no reward to expand.
Want a small base near rabbits? cistern and well will do. Same for deserts. It is actually pretty easy to transport water with buckets and cart (just a bit hard to get buckets).
Nooow, if we had more permanent elements in the map and in biomes that weren't already occupied, maybe we'd need more advanced water tech.
What happens if cold biomes are needed for, like mentioned in discord yesterday, oil? What if cisterns there froze? This is just an idea, but my point is that, lke you said, water in just a part of a bigger problem refering world generation. (in this case, water and biomes being very straightforward)
pumpkins and crows would be dope.
Jason, my opinions on this matter:
I think you are very much right in that tech needs to have a purpose in the game, otherwise we don't bother to develop it. I has to be organical and you've done that a hell of a lot of times already (Tarr mentioned good examples).
I just think there's a few things that should be pushed more for tech upgrades to have this feel.
Needing more types of resources to keep cities going and making up supply chains for stuff other than directly food helps, and fertilizers, refrigeration do help with that. But I also think a greater push for world exploration and city expansion should be an absolute must for the game to feel entertaining long-term. Later that could be done by more biomes I think, which would be mostly aesthetic, but now adding those rare resources, specially those that are hard to extract from off-town localities is one of the best challenges you can add to the game I think. If these rare resources are needed into already existing suppy chains that is even better.
Maybe this way there is even that famed push for city communication, and trade.
I knew this would bring out some baby suiciders on the forums. Seems like most of them were lurkers, Understandly considauring most people have nothing but distain towards you people.
source?
I'll honestly murder every mother that doesn't allow me to run. Good luck trying to get everyone that'll get annoyed cursed.
Who knows, maybe we'll get a general food/recipe update someday though. Give us bacon or porkchops, some mango dish [chutney? pie?], maybe potpies, a new stew perhaps, maybe a dish we can make with milk or a higher tiered egg dish..
I just wish we could cook boars and pigs on a spit.
Variation. A push to unorthodox metas and the hability to climb more branches in the tech tree, specially early game. New biomes with alternative ways to get already existing resources. More animal mechanics like dog training and work animals.
Put this on reddit not on forums
both tbh. but its more likely for him to take it from there I guess
I like the idea of crop diseases and pests but they should be a small balancing mechanic, not griefer fuel.
How does infinite soil work? Is it a bug in the game currently?
no. if you read the reddit post mentioned you'll see that the idea involves making soil out of the ground, costing only the tilling power of the ploughing animal.
the closer to an aqueduct now is a road to swamps with a few cisterns along. Helps transporting water better than it's needed, quite frankly.
a different soil which would allow new plants (new plant to make ropes)
potato should be buffed a bit(more food, more uses, random extra big ones which can be used for seeding big potatoes) and nerf this way
Yes, I think soil types or stuff like water paddies could benefit farming mechanics a lot. And if new soils were to be added I doubt it'd be in grass biome too so it' even better.
Railways are actually really good to make entrance in a sheep pen, sheep cant get out, you get in easily plus you can move meat to kitchen
That's the only use other than hauling buckets from a distant swamp (which is barely ever needed and would still be expensive, but rails could do very well)
But really, only make roads if it'll lead somewhere and if you can finish them. Roads to nowhere are absolutely disgusting.
Like pein said, best roads will probably lead to other settlements or water. There are no other resources worth the investiment of a road to gather/transport faster. Roads have, in fact, some of the same limitations as rails, an in they're really good to transport things faster but there ain't much that needs to be transported this fast from static location A to static location B. Most resources are either close to cities or run out fast so there's little need to constantly hauling over and over.
But who knows, maybe you really want to stockpile salt for those tasty sauerkrauts.
problem with esperanto is that eventually it would develop into something else. languages are not estatic constructs.
2 golds side by side
I doubt Jason accept ideas anymore. I send him a suggestion via email and all i got is him saying "More updates like this is coming soon!".
Because the right way to make suggestions is going to reddit and he is working on steam.
I've got responses like that too but it's just he's busy, you know? what did you suggest anyway?
I agree there is no need for war in the game. There is barely reason to secure resources or land or to take it from others since it's probably easier to get the same stuff for yourself.
Nevertheless, i think a new weapon and armour option would push industry in that direction a bit (at least for armours), which is a goal in itself. Also, as more rare resources and important landmarks are added we'll be needing to keep those close.
Imagine this, would there be war if civs needed late game resources like oil? What if those were rare? Cause right now its much easier to find gold, for example, than to find another city.
My two cents on the issue is releasing it as early dev allows you to once again in the future draw some hype to the game when it's the actual release.
Maybe that would be the next time you need to take some time for some big fix/changes, those have happened before right?
honestly, just swords and maybe armour to keep one safe from bows would be great. Currently bows are somewhat easy to make and find and it's wounds are hard to heal. Maybe giving some last girl armour could help (there should be still be people with knives to hurt the villain if armoured or heal the girl if stabbed)
Swords I think would be needed as a single purpose only item, killing. this way those people with swords could hurt others real bad, but have no excuses for carrying a sword at all.
I remember getting very excited about the "A Horse With No Name" update, I had a blast trying to tame my first horse and collecting tons of cactus fruit, so I guess this one was the best for me
yeah, I really wish we'd get another biome update, you know? so much can be changed about the game by adding something that's available right from the start like a biome. I just wish new biomes would have both late and early game resources. feels bad that grass has got most goodies.
also, we need more mechanics that enable reviving towns/savingn them from last girl crisis. I think bells would help if spawns were a tad bit closer. it IS possibe to find othr towns, just that you'll normally need a horse to do that, and then, why would you saerch a bigger town?
Maybe some rare landmarks would be neat as well, since people could gather around.
that should hype the game a bit
Actually, said Eve only needs access to three (technically two) pieces of iron before pickaxe, a hammer and a hoe. Once the pickaxe is obtained, said eve can just mine iron veins for a little while, and by the time iron veins are not enough, getting iron mines won't be too hard.
then you run out of branches and die horribly without a axe. Pick cannot be such a priority. axe is more important than how too.
letters are bad because they are not viable while being desired for their functionality. Purple dye would be desired for the vanity of it, so it's not really an issue if it's rare.
I think it would actually be cool if one of the dyes was quite rare, gives people something else to do.
so, i've thought about it and some other people have as well.
currently iron is one of the most important resources as it has many uses and is non-renewable. In fact, since iron can make most tools and locks and knives, which help keep your other goods, it is arguably the best material to be used in a currency siystem too (but this is a side note)
I think there's two possible solutions to this. One is making a rarer variety of iron vein with more iron, so whoever found one would help even more gens. The extra chance to find these would make mines, in general, a tad more common. The other idea is making it so here is a second tier upgrade to mines that gives so much iron that it'll probably take more people to mine it all. This way people will want to mine because it is so late game and cool.
yeah, I think I agree. they added some depth to the game. Back there i onlt watched gameplays but it was around that time that the game started looking neat to me. I liked bison update too though.
Which do you think was the best update and why? Which was the worse?
