It's so weird when people start pointing out lineages, any place has good, bad and dumb players, sometimes more or less of one of the three. It's not the family, it's the players, and the players are everywhere, in every family. No lineage/family deserves to die. They all had their fair share of goods and bads. It's all us, in the end. It's like trying to insult a mirror.

#80 Re: Main Forum » Quick jab at the negativity. » 2019-07-10 21:35:24

Difference with your example is that you have a product that you yourself enjoy and make, and that's all it has to do, so however you bring it forth, you can do whatever you want as long as the plant is thriving and growing.
With a game, you make a product people use, and you need to be able to please the majority to get a success, and get loyal players stay.
Rather than growing a plant, you'd grow an apple. You know how you create those apples and what it takes. However, the customers cannot bite the apples, they are too hard. They also don't taste that good. So they start suggesting; maybe if you change the soil? Maybe if you use soft water? Maybe if you sing to your apples?
Some of those would be absolutely ridiculous to you. Like what, sing to them to make them softer and easier to eat? Sorry princess, I know that's not gonna happen, get better teeth or mash the apples then!
And then, people start moving to other apples... Feeling defeated, sad, frustrated that they were turned away like that. Some would stay and maybe the farmer and the customers could make something good together, or then not, depends on how well they are able to understand each other without making each other feel inferior.

I see myself as a very, very, very patient person. I am a people pleaser, and I make a lot of compromises. I also sacrifice a lot from myself. However, I have enough respect for myself that I have developed and kept principles. I trust myself as I give a lot of time and thought to my thoughts and actions, and reactions. I think from all sorts of angles and have a lot of empathy, which makes it easier to relate to others, and also see their sides to things. I can see how someone enjoys killing and fighting, but I can also see how others don't, and all the reasons for and against that. I want everyone to be able to have fun, and a good game will be able to do it, and it will do it well.

When I see a flaw, that I identify as a flaw, my perfectionism strikes, and it can strike hard if my feelings get tangled in there. Especially when I see injustice. When I see a balance favoring a side, when I see people taking advantage of that power (which in end causes destruction upon a product or its users), I take action.

I think the beauty of OHOL was making your own life, your own story, sometimes nudged to directions you wouldn't have gone yourself. I personally got hooked on the "feel-good" peace, teamwork, friendship and creation. Some didn't, and will not, understandable. However, they should be able to have their fun, and I should be able to have mine. But when they get power over me, to impose themselves and their intentions on me, I get frustrated. Why do they get to do this to me, and I just have to sit and take it? I don't want it. Thus, I get noisy. I get impatient. I want to play, I want to play alot, but when I get hit with these situations, which bring forth these feelings, I get disappointed; to the players, to the game, to the flawed systems. I want to recommend the game and play with friends, but I can't, if it keeps disappointing me. I hate the stories of "and then they mindlessly killed me because they were bored and because they could". That's no fun.

My earlier family (I was gen 2) of Radish died to swords by the Tree family, at gen 5.

Frigging yay, I'm off to Overwatch.

Auto-aim is only a problem with ranged weapons (the whole reason snowballs got gutted in the first place.) Jason stated he wanted to get around to giving us better ways to deal with griefers but it's clear that's far back on the back burner at this point. The biggest problem is that clearing out Eve camps is probably a "legit" thing to do so you don't have others with sword around you. The game brought everyone together for people to basically just kill off the people around them to spread ourselves back out. Not sure what the point of bringing people together is if you're going to make others better off dead (and far away from you.) I get not everyone likes to do the same thing but hot damn conflict for the sake of conflict is just frustrating. Of course people could make fences but Jason purposely leaves them shitty then wonders why people won't build them around their towns.

Nerf the only way to disarm in game?: [✔]
Nerf curses?: [✔]
Nerf twin+ griefers?: [✘]

Oof. Yeah.
My browser deleted my carefully construct message so I'm just gonna summarize it;
- at this point I wish I could spawn so far away from people that no outsider could make it to my town - this way I only have to deal with occasional griefers inside my family, where I can curse them and have equal fights with equal weaponry
- sadly I have no idea how close people are to me when I am born, so even if I do run to some direction to start anew, I cannot tell if there is a city in a walkable distance anyways
- I just wish swords would behave like any weapon in the game, being deadly to anything you point it at - as long as they don't hurt your family even if you try to, they are considered magical to me
- I wish I could curse any killer, because it is most likely from another family
- I wish there was a way to stun or disarm people peacefully, something even children could use, so it wouldn't be so one-sided when a fight ensues
- I wish there was a way to recycle swords
- I wish there was a sheath for swords as they are annoying on the backpack
- property gates and fences are basically just momentary spots to stand around in, they won't save you; you're just trapped there
- that said, people seem to hate property fences and attack places because they exist in the area - as they cause hoarding and cause annoying blockages
- I wish that outsiders wouldn't always be a threat; any lineage can get griefers, swords just make it easier for them to go and mindlessly attack some family, as they get extra killing power with a sword there (and no curses for their actions)
- killing with swords causes mindless conflict, which usually ends in everybody dying in the end, so nobody usually benefits from it
- war sword did not make our family more important, it just made foreigners impossible to have around (because griefers can be born on any side, and they don't care who they get to kill, as long as they get to kill, especially with extra powers granted by some specialized weapon; so war swords they are, with the whole 'being safe from curses' bonus...)

That's all for now folks.

You were clearly asking to be stabbed by trying to catch rabbits out there.

Auto-aim was a dumb thing to add.
Removing the only way to disarm was dumb.
Auto stab was an okay for stabbing in melee range but auto shooting when in someones threat range is pretty dumb.
Basically anything related to combat changes (besides the early balancing) has been done terribly.

I wouldn't hate swords so much if they were like any other weapon in the game. But nooo, they just have to be the "ez genocide tool" granted by Jason...

My first sword death happened just recently, as Veronica Good. There I was, snaring rabbits, enjoying life, when a raid-- no, genocide party from Thunder family ran in and started stabbing. They weren't even on my tile or next to me for the hit to connect. Got stabbed twice as I tried to dodge; there is NO dodge. I managed to warn others before the two stabs cut my 14 year old life short. Out of four sisters, three of us died to their swords. My mom's last words break my heart, "I sorry daughters". sad I wanted to live there, I wanted to give my mom a good Fitness score, and have a relaxing life of simple things. I want no participation in this random genocide, to humor THEM. I wanted to humor myself, and ending up being a tool in their fun makes me seethe.

Then, I got born to Thunder family - the same family where the genocide party was from. As expected, I was surrounded by normal nice players. The genocide party was there somewhere, stabbing my old family. I raised my children, farmed tons of milkweed and started a great fence pen. And, of course, cursed one of the genocide party people whose name I remembered. But what use was that, there were six of them, (some carrying food, some carrying med tools in a cart) and my Good family can't even curse their killers, and the killers of their daughters.

I was glad to see Good family survive, though. I don't know what went down, but that genocide party made me so disappointed. It's just random genocide, "for fun". Some get their kicks from shift clicking a person without a weapon. A person who cannot dodge. An outnumbered teenager trapping rabbits alone. That's so cowardly.

Now, as Graceann Radish, my last daughter, Mega Radish, was born, wanting war. I told her war sucks in OHOL (not even war, just genocide with people calling it war for roleplay), shift clicking and sword juggle makes it stupid and easy. I told her we have no swords, it was an Eve camp. "It's okay", she said, and I left her, hoping she could still starve alone. But she survived, and went to recruit people to go with her.
Made me smile wide when I saw she got killed by mosquitos.

I also saw notes in another town, the Oh’s. Seems like Ollj was hunting North of the town and that there was lots of animals there. I was Xochi Oh, and mostly hunted South, while scouting for iron and hauling it back, as well as gathering items of explorers who died to mosquitos. Also made kindling for smith and bakery, and planted milkweed.

We did have a bear attack though, and someone’s last words were ”f*** the Ohs”.

A person quite difficult (already as a child killed the boy because he destroyed her chain yum).
So my sister was working diligently for yum but all children except one boy chose death.
The sister wanted to reach hunger faster, so she threw this kid up and raised it over and over again.
In the end I took her my nephew because I could not look at it.
My sister was getting more and more angry and I was sure that when he reached the age of 40 he would start killing.
And it was like that. First, she killed the old uncle - one of the last four people in the city.
I wanted to find some people with my nephew. However, my sister also killed her son.
After all, I killed her.
I took a horse and started to look for other cities but I did not find anything outside the dead village.
So I returned to the empty city.
I buried my nephew and cleaned everything.
Unfortunately, the city died with me.

This is our family tree:

Sonakshi and Daud and nameless nephew.

By the way, 8 hours is very little.
It is a pity that so many good things have been lost.

Ah, I was Gen 18 in that lineage (Holy). That's the generation when we got diesel engine running.

What a bitter end, but the family did get far, over fifty generations. The last woman's last words were "forty minutes of irl life", ouch. It's no fun. I can feel the sting... But it doesn't give her any rights to start killing, even if everything is doomed. And little did she know, another family would arrive to repopulate soon after... Ziv family lived there for 41 generations.
Never thought about baby juggling to get yum up faster.

Anyways, in my opinion, SID girls should end the lineage. It just says that there are no more people willing to keep it going. Although, it'd be ideal if willing people had a chance to save the place, there must be some online at some point. In the end, I'd suggest that last women and men had a chance to get back to the city, to make up for the bitter end. So if they really, reeeally want to try again with the place, they could. And if they kept trying, someone would always find their way to them, and help them out.

I love gathering horses, I get a kick out of how much their trot reminds me of Boston Dynamic's BigDog.

I filled that jungle (I think there were about 12 tiles left without berry bushes on them) over the course of two lives, the second time I was a mother dressed in the blue cape, with a red skirt, a rabbit fur coat and turkey on my head. I looked like a mutant wonder woman, runnin around with that lasso like it was a whip. Had several kids while I was out wrangling too, I think I managed to get them all home alive.

It's really nice when kids give me the chance to get them home alive. It's one of the things I enjoy most about the game; being out getting rabbits, iron, horses or wild milkweed, and all of a sudden, a new challenge appears - get the kid home with, or without, the goods. It's a lot of fun, and most of you that stick with me always have good things to say after an adventure like that.

I really appreciate you staying with me in those situations.

Nice! Here is a picture after some of them got tamed. We were watching the hypno horses run around.

Yes! you were born in the same place as I was - I was the man who built the wooden tiles around the berry farm (was learning how to make wooden tiles) and make the tools for it! No clue where the original mango family was as the grandmother died before i was born and the mother forgot to ask. I have never seen so many females in a family like mangos from that mod!

I tracked you down in the lineage, seems that I was a descendant of your aunt, Nooh. When I was born, I didn't see any wooden floors, so I think we had at least double runaway lady situation in the family. I was born in a tiny camp with no bow saw (yet). Someone must've left the small town you guys had built, as we were basically in an Eve camp situation. Or then someone got lost and made a camp there when they started getting kids. Hmm! I wonder how close the other Mango families are. Our camp wasn't great, so it'd had been nice to find a better place.

8 hours feels fast in OHOL. Unless you use coordinates to save certain places from wipes. I'd give a bit more time for players to find their spots if they'd like to. Maybe 24 hours. I don't really care for realism when it comes to map wipes and ruins. big_smile
I'd have loved to rebuild the place, I know how I would've redesigned the place (certainly no "town-center smithy" big_smile).
Sadly I only managed to show the place to my grandson. I'd have brought the whole family in there but I got too old, and food was too scarce.

And in another life there, I saw a woman was queen and I asked her how I could serve her. She said, "get me a horse!" So I made a lasso, caught a wild horse and tamed it for her. As a reward she named me king.

Yeah, beans, they just stick onto you. big_smile And nice, this place was low on horses a lot. Probably because of the tiny sheep pen and lack of rope most of the time. I brought in the first two horses, then in another life I tamed a few that were left in the tiny jungle patch.

Guys, I will surely take care of your kids. The yum foods we produce to each other pays it back anyways, if you really only look at the yum and cost of breastfeeding...

Oh my sweet Jebus, this sounds bad. I thought things were pretty swell as they were? I noticed we needed a "scrap bowl" today and was like "whuh, is that specifically for recycling steel springs or something", not knowing it's a new thing, then a player looked it up, got a pen and THEN we could recycle the iron. It was weird. Really unintuitive. Really confusing, and one can make a pen ONLY with a knife right...?

I dunno, why not add a smelting pot or something...
