In real life, if people with weapons ask(demand) your name, you tell them unless you can defend yourself, otherwise, you might just die. This held true in the past if you wandered upon a small village or city, and still does nowadays. Try to demand your way onto a military base an see how that goes for you. Jason wants this to be "like" real life, and as is the case IRL, you need to use force to exert your will and protect what is yours(what is truly yours is that which you can protect, in a modern society that protection is exerted through legal means, but if those dont exist you are left with force).

you can't apparently get over the fact, unless you form an external group on discord & such, you are unable to tell who you are playing with
cause you want to make sure you play with the "right" people & you force every other "random" out of your closed elitist gameplay & all that on the official servers in an Open Source Public Domain game
Huh, you can "vet" people through discord, kinda like what they wanted to do on server 7.
one question remains though
if you are that selective about who you want & allow to play with
why don't YOU make a private server where you can play to your heart's desire completely undisturbed ?
Why dont you, track your coordinates, and go take the village by force? They paid to play on the public servers like you, and are using the built in game mechanics to play as a group on that server. You, as ive stated I dont even know how many fucking times, are absolutely able to play on that server. If you insist on trying to play with them, youre just gonna be a baby a lot and starve to death. Nothing is stopping you from doing that.
sigmen4020 wrote:Ok, I'm apart of one of those groups that are currently playing on server 7, and there is a big reason why randoms aren't kept, especially recently since a group of people hijacked one persons camp and turned it into an apocalypse fortress. We have also dealt with impersonators before where they claimed they were someone from the group, and when they grew up they killed of one of our Eve spawns.
We are not entitled to let everyone in and risk everything we build get griefed. We almost lost everything to griefers targeting the server. I don't really understand why so many people seem to think that we should just go balls to the walls and let everyone and their mother into our town, when it's been very clear in the past that some pricks join small servers just to destroy everything someone has built.
And Tarr I was in the town where someone was claiming to be you, and I am glad now that we decided to not keep that one.
Edit: And also if I want to constantly deal with normal randoms I go to the normal bigserver like most other people, which I do all the time I'm not playing with the group.
Edit 1: Also if you want to join a town on the small servers I'm sure there are more for you out there, or you can build your own. You are not entitled to be kept in one specific town.
Edit 2: Also if you do you want to be there, you can give your discord name, and we mostly keep everyone who do that even when they arent a part of our group since they can now be held accountable for their actions.
just to clarify
YOU are the griefers who hijack the server
[sarcasm on] no, you're not elitist at all [sarcasm off]
"normal randoms"
"our group"
"We are not entitled to let everyone in and risk everything we build get griefed."
"our town"
goshi tell you what you are not entitled to - to hijack any of the official servers
you are in fear of losing "your" precious builds ? i hope the next update wipes all clean or maybe i should participate in an apocalypse on server 7just release the official server you hijacked & go make your private server, so that "randoms" like me can play whereever they like
- - -
Oh honey, you can still play on server 7, nothing is fucking stopping you. They did not hack the server and limit who can login. You are entitled to nothing more than logging in. Thats it, from there, make/steal/do whatever you want, youre gonna have to make it happen though. If someone does not want to keep you as a baby, youre just gonna have to get over it. If you stumble upon a village, and they ask who you are and you refuse to tell them, then youre gonna need to use force to exert your will to be there. If you cant do that then there is no help for you. Tough fucking luck buddy.
there is no such thing in OHOL as "your town"
if you play that way you play a game that was never intended & therefore every other player is entitled to butt in & do whatever they like, because that's the game intended
You are entitled to nothing more than logging into the server, and the items you can hold in your hands/basket/backpack. No one is required to keep you as a baby if they dont want you. They used valid game mechanics to keep the OP out of their village. On the big server, since everything is collaborative, there certainly is no "your town". If I build my own eve camp solo or entirely with a small group, it is absolutely our village. If you want it, youre gonna have to find it and kill us for it(which is perfectly allowed in this game, nothing stopping you from doing that).
maybe the initial problem got lost here
a group of discord people tried to hijack an official server & declared it their own & killed everybody else who didn't answer the right way
what a gameplay is that ?
No one hijacked the server, you can still log in and play, on that server, its just not gonna be with those people unless you can convince them to keep you or you find their camp
& to tell players where they have to play or have not to play, who are you ? entitled by what authority ?
The only authority in this game is force, like IRL. They used force, as implemented in the game to exert their will. There is no rule that says you cant do this. Additionally, I didnt say where you can and cant play, and instead just enumerated all the things you can do. They do not have to keep you as a baby. That is their choice.
the most ironic thing is
Jason makes a game Public Domain & Open Source
& players playing on his official servers declare a server "their own" & a town on that server "their own" lol
Thats totally irrelevant, it being open source has nothing to do with supposed in game ethics and whatnot. Also, again, no one is claiming to own one of the PUBLIC servers. You absolutely can target that server, and get born there, and play there, as much as you want. Also, if you build it, or take it and can defend it, it is yours.
tarr wrote:I just don't think it's worth trusting people who refuse to tell and confirm who they are when doing private stuff. The one time I let a group into the bigserver2 walled city I near instantly had the plane stolen by someone who proved exactly why we weren't accepting randoms into the private area in the first place.
wow !
"a private area on a official server in an open source public domain game"
just wow yikes
Huh, its almost like Jason put in walls and doors and locks and weapons. Sounds like he is okay with players making a private area on any of the servers. You too can build walls and a door and a lock and then have your own private area. Additionally, you can make all of the keys yourself and break into and steal said building or city if you have the skill and motivation to do so.
GJ that player who stole "your" precious plane lol
"waaa waaa I cant make anything cool, so gj for taking someone elses hard work"
Its clear you're an entitled garbage person and I would absolutely never let you in my private camps at this point. And please come complain about it, we will all get a great laugh out of it.
Also the hypocrisy here is kinda wild. If you intentionally target a server other than the big server, you are essentially saying that you don't want to play with random players at that time. Be it solo or in a group, that is the only reason to get off of the big server. If you want to play in a community of randoms who build something out of the happenstance of it all, then go back to the big server. You are criticizing people for doing exactly what you are trying to do on server 7.
What if, that player was the one that started the camp, and didnt know that someone else had been let in. Maybe they assumed you were one of them and then realized there was one too many people there. Maybe he started solo and the other players joined randomly, and gave that player their discord name. Maybe they took a break and came back to find you in their camp. I can think of many more scenarios, but that is all irrelevant because even if he just wanted to kill you, it doesn't matter. Murdering someone in this game is not comparable to real life. They "blocked" you. If its petty or rude, it doesn't matter. There is nothing wrong with what they did. If you dont want to play on the big server, and also dont want to do it solo, you can: keep trying other groups on other servers, or give them your discord name, or form your own group(or any combination of the above). You could also go back to the big server or play solo. Not giving your name in that situation is shady. It wouldn't have done anything to hurt you, and you could have all moved on.
No one is privatizing a public server. You are still able to go back to that server no matter how many times you die. No one is preventing you from playing the game. Players are in fact, allowed to kill other players, for whatever reason. That's how the game works. There are a number of valid reasons to play with a closed group(the biggest one being, they fucking want to). Do you all whine like this IRL if someone doesn't wanna interact with you? They don't need a reason there, and they don't need a reason here. Grow up, get over yourselves, and just play the game or don't.
Whats really obnoxious is telling others how to play a game they paid for when their gameplay in no way negatively affects your own. Boo hoo you didn't get to play in their village. If they wanted to have a chance of playing with you, they would be on the bigserver. There is nothing stopping you from playing on server 7, you just aren't gonna get to play with them. Are you entitled to their time? Try another server, people often do let randoms into solo eve camps(I have sometimes). You can even build your own damn village on server 7.
Well it looks dead
There is no way for the server to know if you're using awbz. Get over it. I play without it on updates, but go back to it usually. Jason doesn't like it, but there is not a good way to get around it without causing problems by sending the client less data. The mod isn't going away. Others have been rather diplomatic about it, but if he stopped, there are many others here with the technical ability(it doesn't take much) to fork it and keep it going. I don't understand how awbz makes your lives worth any less. Using the mod doesn't imply you kill others, or play in a non-constructive manner.
I think instead of a more traditional map, it should be like a home marker. You would go out with blank maps and mark them at locations like rabbits and iron veins, and then bring them back. If you hold the map your home mark is temporarily overwritten until you put it away.
See, I think there needs to be balance. It takes no milkweed to club 4 seals. It only takes 8 to make some hats for everyone; while hunting rabbits, gather maybe two straw hats if you dont have a wheat farm. The food consumption per heat decreases exponentially, so the first clothing items will give the greatest bonus. Even ignoring hats and just clubbing a bunch of seals may even make more sense. Eve can easily club a seal first, make fire tools, then find the spot. Once a suitable spot is found, keep a baby, then run to tundra to make them a seal skin too. Make one more, both of you come back to camp, and then your child can begin setting up the farm or just gathering branches and dirt. Keep another baby, and by the time they are old enough, both can farm and you can go on a rabbit run for more clothes or backpacks.
Why would he give us more clothing that doesn't require tools? Or thread? Did you know you can use the drop spindle on fleece to to get a small ball of thread. Add a needle and use it instead of milkweed? It makes no sense to add more clothes with this past update, seeing as he wanted to see the response first, and if there were any bugs. And guess what, he fixed those bugs yesterday.
Yeah the way the eve spiral works now, we will still end up near lots of ruins. After the reset, the new origin of the spiral was the most recent large village, so part of the circle will overlap back on itself.
If anything, its easier to find a spot now. Before you needed to be on the intersection of a swamp, desert and green area for an area to be considered viable. A perfect spot had that and then a pocket of prairie and jungle close by. Its good to have iron close but its not a problem if its one or two biomes away. Now a viable spot only needs green and swamp. A good spot is intersected with a prairie, and an even better one intersects with a large badlands.
Well it happened!!!!
I kinda get that, but at the end of the day I dont want 100 new random craftable objects a week. I want updates that use however many craftables it takes to make that particular extension to the game. I dont think anyone could keep up with the game at exactly 100 new items a week. Even if you make all of those things, you still dont know what the meta around it will be. Small updates elicit complaints that he isn't adding enough, and big ones upset a large minority of people who didn't like that their favorite feature went away or is obsolete or whatever else they dislike about it. Even Jason doesn't know exactly how things will go after an update, and unforeseen emergent phenomena is a real pain to contend with. The current release model makes sense for one person doing all of the development and management of a game like this. ***Obvious troll is obvious, but I still feel that a rebuttal has to be made. The trailer does say 100 items a week, but a year later it just doesn't make sense to do that.***
Also, if ive ever seen an argument for being delusional, its your personal forum . Who in this world makes a dedicated forum to talk to themselves?
Still isnt an argument for your bunk case. I can admit I was wrong there. You still have one exhibit, of four reviews, that does nothing to substantiate your argument. That ignores all the possible counter arguments, assuming that one exhibit was enough to make your case. At the end of the day Jason has provided the service you purchased, access to the server and all future updates, and technical support for the game. You have not claimed he failed to provide any of these things. And to top it off, the state you are filing in does not require any specific return policy.
At the time of posting:
4,996,720 lives lived for a total of 865,320 hours
Today or tomorrow will mark a pretty historic moment for the game. Would be cool if that person gets tagged in the lineage server.
Also, four bad reviews does not win a lawsuit claiming the game is unplayable. The long term reviews on steam are overwhelmingly positive, and even the recent ones still eek out bad reviews. Going to the main page http://onehouronelife.com/#reviews, we can see that all of the recent ones are positive. You can find dozens of comments in just the past few days on the forums praising the update. You dont have consensus from the playerbase, and no proof the game is actually unplayable. Even if you made a video of you having a hard time with it, it would be easy to counter with any recent twitch stream, or even a new video of villages with clothes and buildings and tools and food.
Also, you're clearly not an attorney, only a small subset of lawsuits can be served via the mail for out of state suits. You will need to file in California to serve via the mail. Even then, almost half of suits served through certified mail are still tossed out.
The plaintiff purchased access to the game server One Hour One Life at http://onehouronelife.com/ for $20.00. The game was advertised on Steam and other internet platforms as a civilization building and child rearing game. The game is neither of the things it is advertised to be. There is no way to ‘build a civilization’ because one player can never see get back to the spot they were building without anything but luck. The game also expounds itself to be focused on child rearing, and claims you can teach your children the game basis. This is not possible because the fast rate the of hunger, the player is left doing hardly anything except finding food to stay alive for the one hour of life they get.
Huh, guess you never heard of a home marker. You can teach your children. This game has perfect information (save knives in backpacks on some character models), you can watch someone do a task, without them saying anything, and potentially reproduce that set of steps since everything is out to see.
After purchasing access to the server and finding out this game is not what it advertises to be, the plaintiff contacted the creator/developer by the email given by him and asked for a refund. The plaintiff was ignored. Since the plaintiff was already invested in the game anyway to just play it instead of making a big fuss.
New mexico has no statute requiring a return policy. At the game purchase page, there is no guarantee of a refund for not liking the game. The game is not broken, you can log into the game server, with the client and no modifications and play and make all items in game.
Less than one month after purchase of the game and requesting a refund, the developer and defendant chose to ‘update’ the game without proper warning making the hunger problem even worse and furthering the gap between what was advertised and what was received.
Hmm, I remember this post, some 8 days before the update came out, with lots of back and forth between Jason and the community. One city server even tested the code in advance. Jason regularly (almost daily) talks about the development on dicord under the channel #live-dev-changes
Ignore the troll.
