Bring on Yersinia Pestis! Also known as Bubonic Plague.
Wait, no, we already have players who randomly stab people for kicks. Nevermind.
To heck with friendly. Aesthetics matter. If you don't think people will take one look at a town with walls tossed this way and that and won't move on to a more pleasingly designed town, you really don't understand people's biases. /I/ know they work just fine and /I/ want to leave. Same as if my mother calls me some awful name. /I/ know I get a perfectly serviceable name that is not going to be one of those words, but like heck I'm sticking around and working for a village with people like that. I got one hour. I'm going to spend it in a place I want to love.
Also, it's not OCD. That kind of talk really diminishes the reality that people who truly have OCD have to live with each and every day.
I'm scared that people will wear socks and sandals. This cannot be allowed to happen except past the age of 45.
Sock art may need a rework since they're kindof chubby and the wooden shoes are thin.
Babies look silly wearing long dresses. It's far too long for them Perhaps an age-wear restriction?
It looks like there's a halo around the edge of the dyed items, not grey but colored. Will people look like their clothing is glowing?
What's with the rumpled bit at the bottom? Is it excess cloth?
Sharp stone. Every life. Every time.
- Compost, burdock, carrots, pies, reeds, wheat, arrowheads, LSS, curved branches, Yew branch.
Fiestaware FTW!
I would love to have more color in the game and this makes for a useful mechanic. It'll be a lot of extra items given that each colored thing is a separate entity. Mostly it's just churning out all the iterations that'll take time but I've seen Jason's work, he's fast!
I have faith in him!
If I want a 3d survival game, I'm just gonna go play Subnautica. I'll take my chances with Reaper Leviathans wrecking my Seamoth and Crabsquids teleporting me into 500m of water.
Rust is full of ugly people yelling "I'm friendly! I'm friendly!" who then shoot you in the head. Also you know who you are teaming up with in Rust. You have a posse! If you screw over the posse hard enough, they'll unfriend you on Steam and you gotta find another bunch of friends to game with. OHOL does not have outside the game repercussions.
OHOL is Town of Salem: Survival Mode.
What if Eve Jones can claim area - build totem/shrine/town hall and all doors and chests in this area are locked by default to anyone but Jones family. Strangers can't steal pie nor hoe unless they are left in open. Griefer can be banished from comunity in similar way curses work. If you think your town members are fools because they plant potatoes and not cabbage you can exile yourself and start your own village with diferent name. Similar system to code locks(can't be phisical key that gets stolen from corpse) that limit acces further to smaller groups - no more random people in smithy or bakery.
This is the closest idea to a game I'd want to play. It makes trade possible and the idea of family and not family is a simple understandable mechanic. Branching off to make a new family if you don't like the town is a great alternative to making people stay.
Thinking about this branching off mechanic.
If you decide to leave the village, or are banished, you are automatically stripped of all village possessions. If you are going with your villages blessings, they can trade objects to your new family to give you a hand up. A gifting ceremony! If you were an ass, you get nothing and are completely on your own.
Same stuff happens to me. There's little one can do when the drama/stabbing's already in full swing besides warn any kids you have or other players that seem mostly responsible to stay away from all of it and who to worry about. You can't see what's going on outside the small frame we're given to see so who knows what transpired half the time. I don't enjoy killing other players at all, but I'll do it if it's pretty cut and dry that they're just there to mess stuff up.
Some people enjoy drama. I just hope the pointy end of the knife ends up in them, not me.
You can just put the rocks in a cart. It's a lot easier.
Bells call people together. Crowns divide. Radish town is the best town.
So something weird happened recently, which I'll relate:
I actually Eved for once, which is weird and I was really close to signs of a small village that had died out. I had a kid and then suddenly other eves nearby come out of the woodwork! Like three eves in just one small cluster around a village.
My kid turns out to be a jerk. Most of the other Eves lines are more interested in RPing some drama or whatever while I'm hustling getting enough food to feed this rapidly growing population. At 35+ish I just roll my eyes and die because I am so done with this town. I haven't even bothered to look back because an otherwise cool thing of finding an abandoned village was just a crappy pulling everyone along experience. I'm sure there was going to be the inevitable stabbing circle and all would be for nothing. Why bother?
I think the tech in the game can't allow connected objects. Each tile is independent of the one next to it. It can't "see" what is going on with adjacent tiles.
I'd be happy with a franklin stove or a gas fireplace.
Why do people not look up how to build a wagon before attempting it and thus make either track kits or wheels with tires for cars?
Aww leave Oblong in peace. She needs a break and a hug. Outing her sanctuary on the forum might make people mess up her place.
I stabbed someone accidentally once. Ever since then I yell CLEAR! when I'm cutting bread or any other knife thing near people.
Maybe we need a way to catch fish more efficiently than fishing.
I don't think Jason's going to let us fish with dynamite.
More griefer wankery.
I hate to say it, but this whole thread is joy. Perhaps I am just easily amused.
These are some odd cravings.
I've started, when they turn about two, collecting a bowl of berries for my kids and handing it to them so that they can explore around the camp/village and see what needs to be done. I also ask them what they like to do because helping someone find something they like to do makes for more productive kids and happier players.
I'm now hoping for party hats and cake.
Great. Now we've had people building ugly buildings all day long yelling about how a room deathrap with a single hole in the wall is functional, when it's not.
Thanks for that.
