I got that message before. All I did was run the program from the folder I installed it in, which was /downloads I think. Opened the .exe there, game ran fine. Once I figured that out, I right clicked on the icon in that folder that worked (in this case, a giant dong), and made a shortcut to the desktop from there. Game opens fine now.
This is the answer to griefers, right here. Cold hard tactics.

I run Ubuntu 16.4 true an USB flash drive. I manage to run the game, and the lag wase t there. Now Im 100% shure the lag is on windows 10, not because the laptop hardware. I think we need a patch for windows 10.
I was starting to suspect windows 10 was the culprit. Jason, can we get a patch for this?
EDIT: Well, I posted a suggestion about a patch for this problem in reddit. I doubt it’ll get worked on though, considering how few people have this problem. The game is practically unplayable for me in this state, and there’s no reason for it.
Yes. I get extreme slow down whenever I’m in a town. Several people have this problem but there appears to be no fix. Are you running Windows 10 by any chance? I suspect that might be part of the problem but I’m not sure yet.
Same exact thing has been happening to me. Every time I’m in a town, everything goes in slow motion. I also have a windows 10 laptop but my specs are a little better than the laptop you mentioned, so OHOL should run fine.
I told everyone the carrots had brain worms in them and that the only way to survive was to throw all the carrots away and starve. Kept raving about it like a madman.

Exactly. Apparently Jason did an update recently where he managed to reduce the lag in areas with a lot of full containers, but I haven’t seen an improvement at all.
I’ve been playing on this server, but it seems like the population has really dwindled lately. Who else is still on here?
Am I the only one that gets extreme lag every time I walk into a town, no matter how good my internet connection is? I don’t have this problem anywhere else on the map, just in towns where there’s a lot of stuff and/or people. I’d love to help these places out but right now, the only way for me to play this game is when I’m out on my own.
I’ve been playing on the “Chill” server, but I had the same problem on the official servers too.
Make it so that fires heat up people around all sides of it. That way, we can put babies around it for warmth instead of stacking all the babies on the top tile, which makes it really hard to feed them.
