the zoom mod is being used since months
there is no player who fames themselves to be a griefer & not using that mod !
i still play vanilla
i still am at a huge disadvantage because i am not able to see the iron vein, nor the wolves, nor find back to town without a home marker
already since the temp update & therefore players starting building more houses, the zoom mod started to get more traction
now with the fences update the "towns" look like a bare area with some dysfunctional half made workplaces surrounded by some scattered fenced areas
this wide spread areas are absolutely NOT BUILDABLE & NOT TRACKABLE as anything functional in game if the zoom mod is not being used
also since that last update & since everybody except me seems to be using the zoom mod, so there is hardly one home marker to be found, if any skewer at all, cause why use home marker, you find back home easily with a wider area visible !
try that without the zoom mod !
so
what should it be ?
if the zoom mod is that essential to the functionality of the game, then it should be included - as i already several times suggested,
as a CRAFTABLE ZOOM
or
the zoom mod has to be completely disabled to be used in game !!!
i am starting to feel like an idiot because i am playing vanilla
don't know how long i will be willing to endure this
- - -
firstly
since walls don't have any use for any workplace other than to add some weird aesthetics (who has time for that while you're starving cause you have only your butt covered with a loin cloth)
so atm, a perfect bakery is without walls
secondly
the wooden floor is necessary to indicate where the bakery is, same as wooden floor indicates where a berry farm ends & that it shouldn't just grow infinitely
if kept to a minimum then the perfect extent is probably about 7x7
in the schematics below
X indicates wooden floor
the oven is placed not in the middle & not at the upper line but 2 tiles down ( O )
B are boxes for the stuff one might use & eventually already baked pies, 2 + 2 boxes at the upper line & same at the lower line
k indicates a place for one pile of kindling, kindling can be placed also in the 3 free spaces near the boxes
under the oven enough space for several wanna be bakers to spread out & do their uncoordinated stuff
usually there is no real need for an own bakery fire since often there is nursery nearby or a forge or a main fire

if you want to have an own bakery fire ( F ) included then the schematics could be extended to 9x8
giving more space for potential boxes as well
F is a good place to set up an own bakery fire

i am making suggestions along how this game is actually being played, what the actual, real interactions are in game, by how players interact in game & which is not really changeable
wishing for more disciplined & orderly players, who behave reasonably is delusional

again
when do we ought to expect the end of clutter in OHOL ?
+ cause that one update with stackable carrots & seeds collectable in bowls was a great game changer
but
- then came the food extension update with single tomatoes & peppers lying next to bowls & plates filled with half made food
- next was the clothes update which created the poopocalypse
- now the infinite fence twigs were added with the property update to worsen the whole mess
this game is meantime foremost a GARBAGE simulator ![]()
- - -
the pie town i was born to yesterday was horrible
don't care what they have, i just care what they don't have & that's a well designed town along functionality
cause form follows function ![]()
i ended up bordering the farms with wood, to add at least some structure
so this still happens ?
i had it yesterday several times
even used such a disconnect to escape being trapped in a closed room ![]()
- - -
so ok, i posted now my related suggestion on reddit & expanded it with an option related to family extinction
titled : LACK OF CARE has to be punished
https://www.reddit.com/r/OneLifeSuggest … _punished/
- - -
my suggestion addresses the issue presented in this thread
"Private property - the first million you have to steal?"
but you probably just want to have griefers stop griefing & thieves stop stealing, GL with your wishful thinking ![]()
- - -
you can't have it both ways,
not have things you made being your property & not have it stolen by anybody ruthless
what we have now is the result of the first, things get stolen, no matter who made it,
it was always that way but with the fences, it becomes paralyzing to the work needed to be done
- - -
we'd need property of the objects
https://www.reddit.com/r/OneLifeSuggest … er_object/
& we also need blessings
players who work & contribute should be rewarded
- - -
i think, we'd need to have property per object as well
& not claimed but made if it comes to crafted objects
every person picking up a nature object for the first time becomes its owner
every person making a tool becomes its owner
it means the game knows who is crafting an object & as long that person is not declining the ownership, it stays until death
every such property can be generally declined, making it available to everybody else
with the death of the owner his property becomes available to everybody else
but the owner can hand down an object to someone else (as its happening already with knives, backpacks, clothing)
fenced property would compliment that by giving access to the things only to handful of people
if we don't have that in game, theft will continue & discourage players to craft things
theft is always demoralising

...
So when you are a baby and you zoom out ...
yeah, great
sorry
if this game is going to be fixed by a mod, nope ...
...
what is a quite bad problem, that the game still doesn't really know what is a city
now you place a kiln, newbees think it's a town center so they bring all the shit near it
why do you think i insist on making main roads, center of town, main crossroads ?
so that everybody can have some main orientation in game
cause so far stuff is being built anywhere
most placements are dysfunctional
still the same : berry bush cancer growing out of hand, fast roads between buildings, fast roads leading straight to doors, kiln & oven with no space above,
forge with not enough space to ... forge, newcomen engines built somewhere, same as with the new loom, both not moveable afaik
what is the result of the dysfuncitonality ? people wander aimlessly between areas, which are not clear what their function is
now you make a property, i destroy your gate, take you rope, make mine, block the entrance with bell base, hide all shovels, take it for myself
not the most optimali fill my property and when i go in someone locks me so i starve, not the best hopes
i mean it can work if you set up a road and the whole fences but each person makes it's own gate and mentors a kid younger than him, so the rights stay at someone all the time
people don't really build or build good stuff, it gonna be interesting social experiment anyway
yeah, it will be quite a chaos, that's for sure
it will have growing pains
just take it easy & try to make the best out of it, cause we have to have a property option, the gameplay is stuck without it
- - -
It is happening. I will quote myself
Glassius wrote:Again, deux ex machina giving narrativnes over interactivnesshttps://starecat.com/content/wp-content/uploads/disappointed-but-not-suprised-doge-meme.jpg
maybe you're right
if we wanted to get out of the magic of that fence,
then we would need an info blackboard, where all members of the town could vote if they approve the current property built
but this would also mean that we had to have some option for the town members count, something like a citizenship record, where a newborn had to be registered by the name giver
looks like we need some town management related tools
maybe the property fence is just sort of a test, how something like that plays out
Jason can still remove it, if it starts to cause too many problems
but i think, a property feature is worth a test run
- - -
can the Shaky Property Gate be set back only with a hatchet & not with an axe ?
@st2019
fence has no owners, only gate has
you & anybody else have 20 minutes to get out of the shaky property enclosure or set it back to twigs
@pein
we have to have property in game, there is no way around it, trading & wars won't be possible without it
it will be painful & full of new griefing options, so the functionality will have to be improved over time
but atm nobody can predict how the things will work out in gameplay or which problems will be bearable & which not,
we have to test it in game, over time
Is the Property Fence Twigs supposed to be a clothing item that can be worn on the head? Because it is.
that's neat !
so you can transport two at once with bare hands already
is this the gateway to baskets balanced on head ? <3

did played now in a town with such an area
since i play vanilla, so it's too big for me to overlook
in general not that bad of an idea, better than stuff scattered
though i stil prefer main crossroads + tool shed ![]()
- - -
town planners tradition ![]()
- - -
yeah, trying this since ever
the problem with this is - from time to time you meet a jerk who will barge in & disturb your work
there are many ways how you can be disturbed, so the jerks have plenty of options to vex you while you limit yourself to only one job
what i do is, indeed check on the bottle necks of a settlement/town, like compost, stew, rabbits, pottery, iron
if those are sufficiently there, then i move on to roads & the newest revelation - a tool shed
as it stands now, nearly every town is in need of a good roads system & a tool shed,
so that's my main job for now
there is only one problem with that, some towns are just hopelessly built already, so it would take forever to improve their roads system, then i fall back on improving the bottle necks, it lets me stay busy for a lifetime
i usually don't do smithing, pies & sheep, because in most cases there is someone who will smith & pie or will be disturbing smithing & pieing
& if the town has no sheep, then they are probably in need of the lower tire jobs first outside of compost,
also i am waiting for any improvement to the fences, the fences are as pain in the butt as milkweed & unstackable stuff ![]()

Glassius goes to the dark side
bad bad bad ![]()
i stabbed the last time one guy mistakenly, because he stabbed someone, but he stabbed a griefing murderer who shot someone
so for now i return to my not stabbing routine, but that's oc just me ![]()

HEMP is the answer

@Toxic
make suggestions for a CRIME SYSTEM as a regular feature
be creative
every peaceful world needs crime
don't retreat to sulking ![]()
- - -
i am not sure i should suggest one main change
i think the gameplay is atm pretty balanced
even if i would wish for the game to be more historically correct, like stone age tools
or awbz mod replaced by regular features like craftable map & craftable zoom
i think, that forced exclusive one feature, one change only is not really my thing
Jason improves the game constantly, that's the best thing that can happen to a game
OHOL will grow & it will become a better & better game, i am pretty sure of it, only Jason has to stay on track, as he does so far
Remove unorganized players that leave clutter everywhere
make a tool shed, this reduces clutter already
make a center
make main roads leading out of town in a straight line
make organized workplaces
educate players about benefits of returning broken steel tools to forge
- - -
it improves your coop work cooperation but does separate you from the other players who are not part of your coop
this game is basically multiplayer
coop was included months after release & only because some players were constantly bugging Jason about it & he's experimental enough to do that
get over it - your coop gameplay is still not popular ![]()
- - -
yeah,
noobs, idiots, egoists, mindless & griefers
they all exist in this game
meantime i see it all as a special flavour of OHOL
i just move on & hope for a better next life ![]()
- - -
yeah, happens
tough luck, just move on ...
