Just a static picture of a dynamic situation.
4x4 plots rather then 3x3
Blasphemy!
some people are way too serious about this game.
Wumbo, it's because the game isn't just a game - static and isolated from everything else in the world. It is connected to some of the most important aspects of humanity; caring for your family, sacrificing your own life for a cart of carrots that might keep your brothers and sisters alive for another year or risking your own life, going toe-to-toe with wolves, snakes and boars, just to reduce the chance that one of your children gets killed by one accidentally. Human beings, throughout time, have made sacrifices so that we might live in this, more peaceful present, and they always will. Take the protesters, rioters and, dare I say, revolutionaries, in the United States today. The people of BLM, Antifa, and the ones pushing for police reform. Say what you want about their choice of tactics, but obviously they feel strongly enough about their situation and the need for things to improve, that they are out there, flooding the streets of major metropolitan areas, year after year, standing ground with the police and military units, demanding they return to their homes and just pretend things are okay. But things are not okay, and they never will be.
Humanity is driven by the desire to make things better. Every new child that comes into the world is eventually tasked with solving the problems of the past, so they do not carry on being problems for the future. At some point in each person's life, they have to ask themselves questions like "What can I fix, before I die?" "Which problems are too much for me to tackle alone?" and "Who can I band together with to make a difference?"
The games we make and the stories we write, are inspired, by real world examples. Those stories we write then go on to shape the attitudes of future people, in future scenarios, in the real world. There never were demons or angels, only humans. There never were Zerg or Protoss, only Terrans. And there never was a Horde of Orcs, only humans, allied or not. There are Germans, Japanese, Russians, Chinese, Americans and Brits, and our leaders could be seen as Marios or Bowsers, Pacmen or Ghosts, all depending on which borders we are born in, or which ideals we are taught to foster or discourage; whichever variables combine in us to see people as, Others, Us, or Them in the never-ending story that is life on Earth, in the state we experience it while we are alive.
The beauty of One Hour One Life is it's absence of borders... it was.
It was the return to that state that existed before we cared if you were red or blue, white or black.
It was, the ideal scenario we strive for, when we send millions of men to kill millions of other men, on the battlefields.
And here Jason, over the course of the last 4 years, has been adding more and more problems, that humanity has solved, but doing so in reverse. He is not solving problems, he is adding them, by encouraging people to war in a game with no war, by drawing borders where people had none, and by segregating people who were homogeneous.
WE didn't do that to each other, he did.
We, were happy working together to fight against nature, against hunger, against the cold and the heat, and against wildlife that was distinctly not us and that if encountered, would bring about our demise. We were, working together as one, and rather than give us larger, unhuman, challenges to overcome, he instead copped out of the greatest challenge and took the easy road of pitting people against one another, for shear lack of foresight on his part.
Now, he has made, yet another bad example of an opportunity that human beings had to inspire each other to work together, by pushing this game towards the space that near EVERY OTHER GAME EVER has gone; to the US vs THEM, rather than explore the US vs IT, which is the ultimate struggle of LIFE vs The Inanimate, The growth of life vs That which would keep us from growing.
Biology vs EVERY PHYSICAL ASPECT OF THE UNIVERSE WHICH IS KEEPING US FROM BRINGING IT TO LIFE.
He is desperate, for an audience, and he is surrendering an opportunity to make a beautiful thing more beautiful, by making it uglier and uglier, to itself. Adding segregation where once there was none. Dividing people, once united under a common goal; Let's not die!
He had the opportunity here to tell the right kind of story, the kind of story people needed to hear; one of a love of life and each other and he is twisting it into that same boring trope that is all too common in the video game industry, of good guys and bad guys, perpetuating the shit he once looked down upon in this industry.
When I played this game for 20 hours some days, 10 hours on average for months, I did so because it was so good that I was willing to give my life to this idea; that we are beautiful. That life and the human race that has sprung from it, is a beautiful thing that has the power to insulate itself from the entropy of this expanding universe, if only we can grow, outward, into the darkness, to each world of this system and each star of this galaxy, so that we might create a heart of life back here at home that is protected by layers and layers of safeguards against anything that might end our existence prematurely. Before we might be made aware of just how much potential life is capable of in this universe. That means Us vs The Environment; Us vs The Physics of the Universe, holding us back.
And rather than provide us with greater and greater environmental challenges, Jason has opted to pit us against each other instead. When we were already a bonded unit. We started off as something strong; a super organism, and Jason goes and divides us, aids us in thinking less of ourselves and each other, of our children and our mothers and of everyone else in the world.
He has made things worse, in worse ways, not worse in better ways.
At this point, going through the history of the updates over the last 4 years, in reverse, would make the game better and better. This is an important aspect of this game's history, for you to understand. As the reason so many of us came here and gave our time to this game was because it was NOT other games, it was something unique. If I wanted to play Ultima Online for the last 20 years, I still would be, but I'm not, because I realized how that game was shit. Same with Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires, Civilization, World of Warcraft and every other game that failed to give me and every other human being the lesson we and our children need most. That life has been transforming the universe into itself for billions of years and that that, is the ultimate goal, that is the ultimate challenge, and we should not shy away from it.
For years, something has been missing from this idea in my head, this idea that has come from all the games I have played and all the things I have learned, combined. It wasn't until I played this game that I realized what that really was, in only the manner that I have been conditioned to receive lessons; via games. That message, was one of love and respect, for those who came before us and worked their asses to death trying to transform the world into a condition more favorable for each of us to exist in, at this point, so we could afford to go on doing the same. Love, for those of us fighting to stay alive while caring for those living with us, and respect, for the example that those who came before us set in motion while maintaining the momentum that those before them, built up.
So when you say people take this game too seriously, that sounds to me like you would say to J.R.R. Tolkien 80 years ago "You're taking this Middle Earth thing too seriously." "Christians, you're taking this Jesus character too seriously." "1930's Germany, you're taking the words of Hitler too seriously." When people take something seriously, it helps to make it something great, something memorable, something influential, to POTENTIALLY EVERYTHING that human beings think and do, in the future.
If you don't take it seriously, it will be forgotten.
If you are not serious, you will be forgotten.
And everything that is taken more seriously, will live on to influence the state of the world that all newborn life finds itself in, for the rest of time.
--
All you have to do is decide what is most important to you, and then, either make it better, or don't make it worse.
If you don't take something seriously, then you are wasting your time, our time, and the rest of the planet's resources keeping you alive. What good are we to life's future, if we don't care to make it better? You want people to be more subtle about the things they are most passionate about? I want you to be more honest, more vocal, about the things you do care about. And fuck anyone that tells you you take your passions too seriously. They're just crocodiles in a game of Pitfall, and this is your vine.
It's just storage is so tight and with cisterns and boxes and tables blocking movement in farms you frequently get walls of blocked tiles that you can't get through.
The thought was that the number of players to the game would increase overtime and with them, we could have new jobs, and one of those new jobs would be a transporter. Someone to move items from where they are produced to where they are needed. Like from the farm to the bakery, or from the bakery to a dining area. But Jason thought we needed the game to be more interesting for people who like to murder each other in other games, so, he fucked it up for those of us who came for the game he advertised from the start, and rather than gain players, we steadily lost them, until we got down to the point where there was 20-30 people on at a time, on average, and then he released the game on Steam, and we got back up to 100 or so a day, but he kept all the same advertisements for the game, selling it as a parenting simulator with crafting and survival elements, yet he continued to add murder mechanics for sadistic people, and, of course, the few who came and abused others, turned away the majority that wanted something peaceful and pleasant.
This is why so many of us are still vocal about how upset we are with Jason's decisions to this day, because it was absolutely obvious to people who actually played the game, what we were here for.
Meanwhile Jason just played League of Legends and Rusts with his sons and ignored the game, ignored our complaints and ignored the things that didn't show up in his data, like how often we said we loved each other, to one another. He just doesn't know a fucking thing about this game and never will because he can't, not from his perspective. He just didn't care enough. And the few people that didn't care either, drove all the good people away.
He just really fucked up, and, he should never be let off the hook for that, for the rest of his life. So that when genuinely good people go looking through history for similar ideas, they recognize the mistakes he's made because he becomes infamous for them.
And that is coming from the person who has put more time into this game than any other person on Earth, including Jason and Tom combined.
There was a time when I averaged 10 hours a day playing this game, for months. Jason couldn't even be fucking bothered to put in 6 hours half that time and he certainly doesn't put anywhere near 6 a day now, if even 6 hours a week. Fuck him. Only the outside he's a fucking shy little aspy, but inside, he's a disgusting monster of a human being who finds humor, entertainment and intrigue in the suffering of others. He's a piece of shit of the worst type, deceitful as all hell.
--
He has a lot of upset people to answer to, and he never will - ever. He's just that kind of person. Either too scared to be honest with those he deceived, or too oblivious of what this game meant to so many of us.
I've given him the benefit of the doubt hundreds of times, I've listened to his voice for dozens, maybe near 100 hours of all the interviews he's given and the videos with him, I've read most everything on all the sites he's ever created, just, trying to find a genuinely good person in him, past the innocent, stuttering, childish mind he comes off as, and I have come to the conclusion he's about as mentally developed as a child that burns ants and pulls limbs off spiders. He was too sheltered growing up, that is clear, but while sheltered, some unfortunate things happened to him and he still carries them with him.
As productive as he has tried to be over the last 20 years, with his music, his file sharing and his games, he cares more about the appearance of a hard worker and not enough for genuine work. But hey, the motherfucker has a nice lookin' resume! Right? Isn't that what life is about? Making yourself a good wikipedia page to be remembered for? Telling people the number of games you've made, even though they haven't played, or even heard of, a single one? He's basically made 20 games that could all be played in a single evening, and probably didn't take more than half that to design... but what the fuck do I know?
He's the reason we're here, instead of anywhere else right now.
At least he helped me to meet a few people who I really felt cared for me, even if we only ever did meet via a game, or a forum.
And that was nice of him. Even if he did encourage others to kill us in the same game by telling everyone he just wanted interesting things, and only ever siting murder statistics, as an example of an 'interesting' thing.
He was a true piece of shit, may still be, may even be for the rest of his life.
Yet I still care about him.
Yet I still love him.
Like a cute, little dog, that always bites you when you try to pet it, and barks incessantly with the sharpest, most annoying yip.
You just have to admire them for their confidence and perseverance.
He's got a fair amount of determination, more than I'll ever have.
He just made some bad choice.
But that's life, eh?
Haven't we all made some bad choices and lived to learn from them?
--
Sorry, I forgot, this was about seeds and shit. Move the produce to a storage area, if you have time. Make boxes for storage in a room adjacent to the kitchen. Storing it adjacent to the plants themselves was never the way it was meant to be. Back in 2018 we used to store food in baskets in carts, but, then Jason made baskets decay, made carts decay and just basically shit on idea after idea that we came up with to make the largest towns stable. That's what the game is to him, making things miserable for people. That's the most important thing; that you be miserable, no matter what. I'm guessing that's what his dad did; made him miserable to force him to grow up, and that's probably what Jason will do to his kids once they reach the same age; dash their sense of security against a jagged cliff just as they all reach just the right age, where the youngest one is nearly old enough to evict if necessary.
Who the fuck knows. The past of this game is fucking haunted by people who knew better and gave up before Jason fucked them over too much. Before they got too attached, they left. I should have left with them. But some, fucking, paternal instinct in me, keeps me coming back, as if I'm checking on my kids in bed, just for the peace of mind a father might experience, as he hears his children breathing in their sleep.
I do not know, why, I am still around here.
I've probably squeezed all the blood I'll ever get from this stone, yet I'm still holding on.
Too bad there aren't more people trapped here with us, eh?
I'd turn like Tarr, pein or Dodge did, into sadistic fucks too, if only I could care as little as they do about what matters most to me.
Then maybe I wouldn't feel so bad about the game being such garbage, I could just take it out on other players, instead of reaching right for the heart of the fucking problem.
Just pretend it's not Jason, pretend it's each other.
Pretend it's me if you like.
Jason told me once he was looking for a friend, and, I think I blew him off.
Maybe it really is my fault. I'm sure I did something wrong, by not being good enough to prevent more problems, or, at least, to wind up happier, by this moment in the future.
--
This is what I get for looking at the posts of the past.
If you're a brutally honest person, don't fucking do that.
You'll just regret it, you'll just dredge up unresolved issues.
Stay in the present, or don't - don't touch the fucking lever.
Just let the train kill those 5 people. You didn't start it. It's not your fault they died.
But it will be your fucking fault that 1 person died, and you'll never let it down.
Don't touch, that fucking lever.
In fact, stay the fuck away from trains entirely!
Whoever designed those fucking tracks should be charged with the 5 deaths, fuck that piece of shit.
Fucking trains, who needs em?

And hey, don't take this post too seriously.
I don't want to talk about this shit now that I've got it off my chest.
Talk about ... farm layouts or some shit.
IDGAF
Just let this go.
Maybe I will too,
someday.
But I imagine to that catholic school teacher, I may as well have been a Genestealer.

More like, a, memestealer...

Sorry.
Morti wrote:Make everyone have sex with everyone else, constantly, until there was nothing left of the Earth, but a ball of flesh, with humans as each of the cells.
Oh, you mean the game?
Same.
I .. umm.. I have seen that Apocalypse.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/8702 … iskatonic/
It was mildly terrifying.
"1925 A girl is discovered to have strange eyes"
WTF?
I hate humor with Cthulhu references.
I also hate cute anime characters.
JK, I don't really hate anything, it's just... not interesting to me.
So do they all fuck and turn the Earth into a sphere of flesh or something?
What am I missing and why did I not get asked if I was over 18 to look at that game, if so?
I did like Cthulhu and that guys whole mythos, back... 30 years ago, when I was into D&D and Spelljammer and thought the Tyranids in Warhammer 40k were the coolest idea anyone had ever come up with in the universe. But then Starcraft came out and I burned myself out trying to explain how The Zerg were an example of what was REALLY going to happen to Earth and all the planets of the galaxy and the rest of the universe, if, evolution carried on on some planet where the lifeforms managed to leave their planet biologically and seed their moons, planets, asteroids and comets with life.
That's why I stopped teaching astronomy, I went fucking crazy, and couldn't be trusted educating children anymore because I was so concerned about life from Earth, billions of years in the future, meeting up with other life forms that had been evolving elsewhere for billions more than us. ![]()
That's a lie, that's not why I stopped teaching.
A religious person got me fired for mentioning evolution to her class of catholic kids.
It was a far worse, more mundane, less interesting reason.

Dodge is a lovely human being.

Stick around, Wumbo.
You'll see.
May I ask why?

While I'm no Kevin Mitnick, I used to idolize him back...20-25 years ago.
I saw him in an interview on... Tech TV I think it was? It was shortly after he was released from jail. The interviewer asked him what version of Windows he preferred, and when he said 3.1, I nearly lost it.
This was the time of 95, 98, 2000, ME and NT, mind you.
I was using Deskmate in 1989, my Tandy 1000 came from Radio Shack, I didn't use 3.1, but I completely related to Kevin in that moment.
I haven't forgotten that moment.
And he certainly can't kick us in our asses if we don't do the same.
Well, I guess so. Jason is the almighty ruler.
No, we are.
That's why it's not flourishing. Jason isn't close enough to any of us that we can turn our chairs and kick him in the ass when he hasn't moved for too long.
May I ask why?
Sure.
Well... no, not really Morti.
But at least it's something we can share, with each other, no matter how small a group we are.
Update your computer!
No. ![]()
I wonder what the game would be like at this moment if Tom Bailey was still here. Would it still be flourishing?
Is it flourishing now?
Wait, who is Tom Bailey?

A man with eyes as beautiful, if not more so, than Jason's.

Good times, folks.
Take care and spread some joy.
(I bet the words Io and Joy are related...)

Nailed it.
Even though Io is a moon of Jupiter.
Stay warm and get fat, monkeys.
Winter is nearly halfway over.
The Sun shall rise again!
Iupiter commands it.
Wholly shit, speaking of Jupiter and Saturn, are you watching this show in the sky?

Take a pair of binoculars or a small telescope out and have a look at them, or a large telescope with a wide lense... or, just watch people talk about this and make of it what they want, by searching for "2020 Conjunction Jupiter Saturn" just, look out for people trying to hijack this for some dumb conspiracy, even if it's christian or astrological, those people don't know wtf they are talking about.
Astronomically, this is a pretty rare occasion, happening only once every 20 years, but they won't pass by this close in the sky, for something like 60 years, so, chances are, you won't see a conjunction again, like this, for the rest of your life.
Take an hour or two at dusk to have a look at them and consider what "MOVING STARS IN THE SKY!? WTF?" meant to ancient monkeys, and why the planets were considered gods by hundreds of cultures over thousands of years.
Note the scroll bar in that text doc does not have travel.
But in my head, that post would have been about 4 times longer, maybe more, with pictures and blackjack and hookers.
I was working on a more long winded response, but who wants to read all that?![]()

and try to put your mind in the state things were back then, as best you can.
You can also see why cisterns are placed throughout the farm, thanks to pein's contribution to the overall idea of the way things should be laid out on the farms. This is how progress is made; on the shoulders of the past.

As the person most responsible for the 3x3 farm design, it's not about seed ratio.
The reason I suggested farm plots be in 3x3 squares is because of the ratio of soil to a pile of soil.
The reason I have not come out against it is because it's a good ratio of crops to work space, when the 3x3s are surrounded with tiles not used for crops, where bowls, seeds, water and soil can be placed. The 3x3s work well in the default client, giving people a view of neighboring crops.
If you don't like it, propose something better.
If it truly is better, it will take off.
For reference, look back at videos of One Hour One Life with farms in them, in 2018. The chaos and lack of convention was frustrating for people. The easily repeatable pattern brought a sense of peace and order to the farm. If you wanted less of a crop, you just give it 1 or 2 rows of 3, if you want more, you plant more in another 3x3.
Pickle ingredients are a good example.
You could have 1 bay tree, 1 garlic plant and 1 dill along with 6 cucumber plants in a 3x3.
But I am glad you brought up seed ratios. It's worth considering among everything else, but it must be taken into account alongside all the other factors at work on the farm. That includes the peace of mind that comes with a familiar sight and good layout.
I want to be the Cake Boss.
Imagine how many families in real life, have never died.
