Avabelle Ody reporting in. That's a new three letter surname for people to use as Eves. Actually, I shall adopt it now. Although I never get to Eve. big_smile

Also, Raidan Allcock... Riding, huh...

There were some bushes, boxes and that note, suddenly another old woman got inside (probably someone opened) and stabbed the guy and then starved, when my kidnapper was about to of old age, she gave me access to the property.
A lot of murders happened outside the property. I had to kill two potential griefers in my youth, because I was the last girl, they were acting suspicious, and they had weapons, there were weapons everywhere. When I was old, everyone was dead, but there were Qins in a north town and a family with a Queen came.
Afraid, they started to live inside a property, but another murder happened inside (they were 7x removed and a 1x removed cousin killed someone inside, and they killed him) and I decided to take all weapons and lock inside my propety, I did that. I gave access to the Queen, since my kids were dead.
I made a new fire, it was safe to live outside a property, the peace thrived in Qin town once again, while dozens of knives, bows and swords were sealed in a property, alongiside the Twisted’s note. Before I die of old age, I saw the Queen naming her kid “Bricky”, after me. All the people said “Goodbye” smiling and promised bury me, I died happy.
Alas, the property won’t last forever, and when the seal breaks... It might be the end of Qin family.

Just died at gen 93, as Tim Qin. Yeah this park was wrecked, some trees remained. That town had ran out of iron and nobody seemed to know how to get more and how to make tools - people seemed to just chat and farm. Lots of kerosene though, thank you whoever got those. Could've been nice to recreate the park but I got busy making two mines and emptying them to the town. Found a horse with a cart to take home, also got rabbits and snares back to town from far west, made a new milkweed farm under the smithy and made tools and processed tiny bit of my iron. There's lots of girls and women in the Qin family, but I guess they're spread around? Never got to see other Qin towns.

Nudity mod ftw. Everybody is a modest potato in my world.

How odd that people wouldn't gear up tho'. Do they see rabbit cloth as ugly, now that we have skirts and shorts? Free cloth is great. Or maybe the issue is low amount of thread, as all fleece is turned to bowler hats...

I have become bored of the game a bit. The game is too short to create much meaning. Also, family members don’t have unique qualities and traits. Apparently, it’s too much to update? Also, if I do run into a unique and compelling scenario..it’s over too quickly.

This game has many objects to craft and technological challenges which are much more important than character development (apparently).

I dunno. I’m sort of over it and I wish it wasn’t so.

Welcome to the group sir. However, you got that last part wrong: technological challenges are very few and also meaningless since the only real needed tech is engine for a water pump. There are many tech objets in the game but most of them are part of other objects that are just decorative.

Just had a frustrating life which made me feel like I don't want to play for a while again. Let's summarize it: exhausted well, lots of new people around.
Like nearly every life I have had, it was a basic town with no water, no tarry spot, no kerosene, no oil, no diesel engine, no iron, no pumps. Just lots and lots of people. Any steel there was disappeared to tools as some cringy roleplay was going on, then we get a bear attack as newbies try to plant more berry bushes...
Then there was me, carrying milkweed seeds to town, planting them, trying to prevent newbies from making a huge berry field, making kindling for the engine, then being distracted by the bear so I couldn't do anything engine/water related, instead running around making arrows which slows down everything I'd rather be doing, like making path to tarry and getting parts done. I was fighting too many forces, again. It felt so futile. And then it started to feel meaningless. Just another lineage at the breaking point of "no water, no engine". And then I never get to make one, as it takes like two lives to do or something? And I'm again in the loop of "in order to get this, I need this resource, which is gone again, and now I need to get that too". Tiresome.
Wouldn't be surprised if we had a griefer hiding bowls, steel, food and tools. I had to make a hatchet and then axe. Then those disappeared too.

born as female in such a town, i managed to fix many of their issues, making rope, kindling and babies. mostly making babies, fixes a towns lack of girls, because mothers fail to stay warm.
born as male in such a town, i managed to fix many of their issues, by luring 4 to 8 bears, in pairs of 2-3. but only if they dont even have 2 arrows in town, total, in gen 4+. no point in luring bears, when a city can defend itself against a bear.
its rarely the males that kill towns, but its the town that fails to give birth and make ropes, that kills itself.
so far i only once underestiomated a towns capability to defend against bears, and was in awe about it killing off thee 8 bears i lured. the town still deserved them at the time of the lure.

you see the control freak making a 5th knife, making demands and murdering people. thats not me.
you see the control freak, making property fences, and treating their own children as slaves. thats not me.

you see me, saying "just go wild" a lot, where ever people ask for something to do, especially near age 35, when i get too old to care what others do.
you see me in the attitude of "too many towns that cause too low lives for too many players on forced idle, now its time to kill some of them"

more recently, that attitude changed in a "hey, wanna joins me exploiring nw" "just fuck em"
and i was accompanied to a long travel, that was fun for both, and no grief for others.
this is just anormal separatist migration, totally murder free.

northwest, because i know, currently most eves spawn east/south of that long path of cut trees that i made, and i managed to find it a few times, from any eve-spawn, just by walking nw for 2k.

What I dislike the most in this message is your self-justification of actions. It's terrible. Who are you to judge what a town deserves? I find it astonishing. I always ensure I start towns far from bear caves so it's a good spot, but you say that town still should have crapton of arrows and bows ready just in case someone brings in bears to kill?
Who are you to say that towns should be prepared, when in reality, they wouldn't have to prepare for bears at all if people like you would not lure them in? We wouldn't have to waste milkweed on bows and arrows if nobody brought in bears. We could make minimal amount of bows and arrows just to get goose and kill some boars around the place.

Saying that a town without rope (bows and arrows) deserves to die is like saying a pacifist country with no army deserves to die. If there was no violence, we would use our resources in other things. But as there is violence, we must put our resources to things that can kill things that pose us a threat.

It's just... kinda disappointing when I meet people of this type. But I'm still glad you rather go "just fuk em" and leave and do something else.
You are probably very productive in your lives, although I'd also debate against the whole "40 stakes when making a road" thing. I am productive also, and I know how it feels when you feel like you're the only one doing the right things. But I always see hard workers in my lives, and people who try their best. Who don't deserve to be distracted by some lured bears.

The whole self-justification of things is what is grinding my gears. Yes we are free to do things but I just feel that something is off when someone starts explaining how it's a good thing and how they are righteous of doing so. This kind of mentality brings forth terrifying humans. Humans who think they are above others and justified in their actions. It gets extreme real fast.

1 life per 3 days? I feel like every lineage would die out due to no kids being born, everyone is on a life cooldown.

Good, so you move on instead of staying and killing the town. That's how it should be done; if you don't like it, move on, others can go ahead and sit there if they want to.

You remind me of the user pein a lot. Pein at his darkest moments. Your type gets frustrated, bitter, angry and annoyed when people are not doing things or refusing to do things in the game. To me, it has control freak vibes. You can't expect a hive mind style of work in a random online game with a rather terrible crafting system and tutorial. In the game, people have a right to refuse things and be stupid, and expecting them not to do that is rather silly. I hope you chill a bit and find enjoyment in your pursuits, rather than focus on everything "people don't do" or "people do that is bad and stupid". We have different kinds of people in the game and not all of them will please you.

a baby tour isnt necessarily rp, its usually in search for baby clothing.

In my case it was not roleplay at all. I was not pretending to be a sweet loving mother who teaches her child how the world works. It was a small town with only one woman, me, and I wanted to give my girls and boys maximum chance at survival. A lot of them wouldn't have zoom out mod, so I'd make sure they know what they can find in the town so they wouldn't run to the wrong direction and starve. The tour was to ensure the lineage has the maximum potential of succeeding in the next generation. And they did.

#136 Re: Main Forum » [Problem] Culture doesn't persist; what if Kings and Queens aged slow? » 2019-06-27 20:49:35

I think this is unnecessarily magical thing to add.

Problem: culture doesn't persist. Why?
- there is nothing worth passing on. Notes are rarely done and don't have much use anyways, they turn to clutter.
- there is no time for culture. We are constantly fighting impending doom wherever we are in generations.
- there are no options or freedom to create something worthwhile. Nothing epic and unique that'd be worth the effort while providing something gameplay related.
- everything takes time and things die before something of relevance has come to existence. Lives are brief and due to that we can't really evolve a communal culture per town.

Of course, what we expect from "culture" in OHOL can vary per person.

But anyways, I don't really like that some would just live longer unless they earned it by playing skillfully and wanting to have a long life. I have no interest in giving some random such power. Ofc if we get healthy foods and sort of "commander/organizer" job they would naturally evolve into monarchy that people would happily keep alive and healthy.

#137 Re: Main Forum » The average life of the average player » 2019-06-27 13:25:33

We also tend to remember negative experiences more than positive ones so we often find ourselves over dramatizing the occurrences, in this case, calling it average, which would mean a huge amount of players. The bad experiences just feel like common occurrences when they poke at our eye even a little bit during a life. "Again they are doing this! Why is everyone like this! I'll kill them all!! They always do this!!"

I was accused of RP when I was baby touring my kids. I was waiting for kiln to cool down as I was smithing. To someone, saying "Wheat farm" and standing in it with a baby is roleplaying. :'D Man, that guy got me rustled. I almost suicided as he kept spitting that at me. I was the only fertile girl there... but no one else was so butthurt about things so I quickly calmed down and decided to stay for the quiet workers around me.

#138 Re: Main Forum » The average life of the average player » 2019-06-27 10:21:34

Funny how people telling what an average player life is reveals more about themselves and their view on other players than what it actually is. big_smile

"Isn't average just sit and rp?" Says a person who is angry at others standing around and sees them as slackers.
"Isn't the average a derp who farms zillion carrots?" Says a person who is overwhelmed by newbies.
"Average is an equipment leeching brat" Says a person who sees others as greedy and lazy, the average being demanding kids who should earn their stuff.

To me, average player life is...
- Not started with a chain of /die. It was proven that it's a small minority who abuses it, not the average player.
- Ends in starvation. Proven by multiple charts of player death reason. Majority starves, so average must be starvation in one way or another.

Some people cannot move, forever in his/hers life.
Only one way to resolve is dead.
So, what happen....is off course everyone say "Oh, its bug. I will die. good bye".
But some mother said, "No, you should live. I'll feed you. I can show you world while you're baby. and, Let's talk."
That was very loveful life. Yes I had experience that. Good drama.

"Very ugly original characters"
You know, in march, mobile version and original version has some fire.
After that, mobile version's creator added new original character.
That is very .... ugly. Eyes look at another direction, or look at sky always.
https://forum.onehouronelife.app/t/abou … rs/4539/18
Many people hate this face, so someone suicided himself, and someone insulted newbie's face.
I really hate these faces too.
Some mother neglected. But, boys who was insulted by sister and loved by mother, had looks feel happy.

Maybe if we have disability, somebody think "I Wasted my one life.".
But that's not all.

Interesting!
I think the "can't move" bug could teach us to chill out a bit, share information and talk about the town and such. With a zoom out mod you could keep an eye on the town and/or idle a little bit if it gets boring or your talking buddy has to leave.

Ugly character: that's funny, he doesn't look ugly to me but he is drawn in a different style and technique, which makes it look like he doesn't belong at all. Jason's style is hard to imitate.

#140 Re: Main Forum » Disability representation in OHOL » 2019-06-23 21:05:58

I think it would be interesting to spawn in with a disability, disfigurement or plain ugliness. Just to see how people would treat me. Would everyone team up to get the paralyzed last girl a wheelchair?
I'd prefer it'd be just visual, unless it was an amputation or such. If it made me less efficient at everything it wouldn't be that much fun. Making a wooden peg leg would be fun. At this point I'd just appreciate any visual differences between townspeople though...

What I wouldn't want: colorblindness, bad eyesight, blind, deaf, mute, paralysis, hemophilia, schizophrenia, etc. While fun as a challenge and change of pace, I wouldn't think I'd enjoy such limitations unless they gave a positive perk to balance it out. Would suck to not be able to move as you'd like to or be able to do jobs that need doing - and you know you could do it but not in the current body.

Broken bones and casts don't sound fun either... hmm But scars, amputations, prosthesis, or some disfigurement sound interesting.

Of course, no one is playing there, for a reason.  There have only been 48 lives lived there in a month an a half.

During that same time, there were this many lives lived on the main server:

507,951

That's over 10,000x more lives.  People seem to like the main server better.

Wild guess but could it be people wanting to play for lineages and having everyone in the baby pool instead of going to a server which most don't know about, especially people living in other countries who could save a lineage during nighttime infertility?
And it's easier to open a game and press a button to play. People are lazy and hesitant trying new stuff. Most newbies (who make up the majority of players as of now, from Steam release to today) don't want to go back because they don't know what there is or why they would want that. And people who miss those times are either gone or in main game trying to make long lineages.

iron is easy to get, the trickier part is to teach a dumb city to farm milkweed, and bring kindling.
i saw way too many abandoned cities, with tons of iron and steel, but no kindling and no axe anywhere to be found, they just burned it all and then died in the cold, with not enough axes, and null kindling, without a kitchen the hunger leads to murders and low birth rates, and then the campfire fizzles out.

the hell, they likely claimed that a person, who took an axe to make kindling, was a griefer to be murdered, i had such dumbasses a lot, too. to a poi9nt where it may just be an idiot who parrots a griefer, who used this as a false flag attack, just to grief, without being cursed, because dfumb people are easily fooled.

that lesson; of making kindling and farming milkweed, is best told NOT in text chat, but by luring four to eight bears into any city that failed to farm milkweed AND that lacks kindling and carts and roads/horses, but only has a wway too big berry farm full of idiots that just stack all the things, instead of processing all the things.

i killed many towns that where obviously full of newbies, where noone bothers to explore for milkweed.
it ends and prevents (!) suffering of babies that get born into a hopeless town.

the trick is to never lure single bears, but always groups of 2 to four bears at once.
you must not get seen luring a bear, but you surround a city with bears.

smart villages have enough rope, scouts and arrows to quickly respond to this woth very little life and time lost, so its basically hunting aid and not even griefing.
dumb villages just help me to lure all the bears to the campfire. ive seen it many times.

dumb cities must die.

Dude, dumb cities die on their own, no need to pretend being a hero bringing it down faster. Let newbies noob, if they want to live there and screw up the place then so what, let them and move on yourself. Nobody who doesn't want to live there stay. They /die. Let noobs be. They can stay in their "dumb cities".

Yay for teamwork!

In before a griefer appears to gloat over how they made zillion swords from the iron.
Sorry, I'll get my inner pessimist in check.

I had an iron brother once, too. We would check in and go to opposite directions, promising that we'd meet in five years to check which one found an iron vein and which would be closer. I got the short end of the stick; east was a terrible way to go. Almost died so many times. He went west and had found a vein almost immediately southwest. We reunited and got the mine done, then hauled iron together. After that he started a milkweed garden. I worked on my own stuff and came to his garden in my final years. I passed away waiting for him to return to his garden from his trip. Didn't see him come back.

#146 Re: Main Forum » Opinions: Do you carry your vendetta between lives?? » 2019-06-14 05:02:59

I thought about this, but my answer would be no. If someone from some family goes genocidal on a family it's mostly just one or two rotten apples. It's the individual, not the family. Most of the family are nice as majority of the players are. Nice Eves and other ancestors don't deserve death or grief for their line just because they had rotten apples born at some point.

And yes, it is immersion breaking to carry over issues from another life.

Yeah. Many think they do a big service to others and do what Jason wants when they start killing, destroying, blocking and damaging places or others. I just want to chill and do what I'd like to without someone constantly hindering me and the place.

Also I agree with the abusive relationship thing too, the game is something unique, but I always explain to interested people why I don't want them in the game. I don't want to twin with them and I don't want to put them into the situations I've experienced in the game with griefers.
