Often I find myself born into towns who work in silence and don't say much apart from "We need this".
Feels a lot like grinding to me. We should try break this habit.
Sometime ago I began to set myself role play challenges, Some of my most memorable experiences in OHOL has been playing out these roles.
Here are some of my examples.
- Business Mogul
making a store outside town to sell pottery for pies and sell rope for clay.
(I was able to hire someone to collect clay for me and by the end of my life I had three baskets of pies which i earned.)
- No Charity
(Do not accept any clothes you did not earn, Do jobs for elders to earn a piece of clothing)
- Cultured man
(In cities with multiple active towns, create a culture for your town. Sandals, Fruit Boots, Straw Hats. or perhaps a customary greeting or rite of passage for young men)
- Master and Apprentice
(find an elder who is specialising in one job and ask to be their apprentice, work hard to help them achieve their goals)
Feel free to reply with any role play challenges you have tried and enjoyed.
Haha, I was the woman who freed you. I was questioning my brothers because I knew the guy I saw had fur clothes.
However I couldn't figure out who the griefer was so I just let it go.
I'm still wondering who made it, because everyone was well behaved afterwards.
I have to admit it was a really good trap.
Destiny I really like the idea of vending machines, we may not have the time to sit and wait for a customer to buy our produce. I wonder if an approach that combines all our ideas would be possible. Virtual currency which is held in a pouch. You would use the pouch on vending machines instead of coins. Trade currency with another by typing the command.
Some problems might be that each pouch would need its held currency recorded and we still would have the murder for greed.
I like the idea of currency and a pouch and this would undoubtedly aid trade however I can see some problems arising
-The hoarding of ingots
-Killings for wealth, which would not stop at one victim.
-The Smith profession would become much harder.
A similar idea is that the pouch and currency are virtual rather than physical. Every child is born with a favour point or currency point.
This point can be traded with others by typing "Give ---- 4 coins"
It would be the duty of the elders to distribute their currency among the next generation.
If someone dies with currency it gets deleted.
This method would be easy to use and could be used by all members of the village without the extra murders.
https://edge.onetech.info/664-Dry-Shallow-Well - There is a problem with refilling these with bowls of water. I always see new players trying to refill the well with bowls but end up wasting the water because the dry shallow well can only hold one bowl of water and any additional water is wasted.
This game would be suited to a few Town of Salem style roles. Witch, Poisoner, Arsonist, Human trapper.
What happens to the money when someone dies or even gets murdered for it?
The money is lost when someone dies without trading it off to the next generation.
Its unlikely people would get murdered for it, as there would be no way of getting the money after the victim had died.
one feature it would allow for is that prices in a barter may drop when some rich townsfolk die without passing on their wealth.
This currency system may work better once property rights come in place and the ability to write numbers.
Because even though money would not take any physical space, You want to be able to sell your goods without having to watch over them making sure they are not stolen.
An idea for currency is that everyone is born with 1c and can give that money to other players by typing /Give 1c to Maddy Grove.
and a /check money function.
-The older a town got the more money it would have. Initially 1c may get someone to fetch milkweed for you.
-It allows for game play where (mothers might charge children for raising them, mothers may have to choose how much to give each child. ect)
- It may also aid the town hierarchy, some players would have more money than others and thus can enlist their help for a price.
I was born when my mother stabbed my aunt, my mother claimed it was a sign. The last little girl in town saved my life, Em Lucky. my mother named me Queen and said that she had killed all the townspeople to secure my rule. She was hunting down that last little girl and thought i was hiding her. My mother started getting angry with me for not having children by that point I was an adult and had enough of my horrible mother. I ran away to Salvation village, somewhere my mother would not find me. I started a family and had two daughters, we returned to town once they had grown. The last person I wanted to see was my mother back in town. Approaching the city I saw a grey woman pulling a cart, quickly i drew my knife and killed her. My hand began to shake when I realised my mistake. The woman I had stabbed was Em Lucky- That little girl who saved me as a baby, Survived my mothers vendetta against her, Survived in the wilderness until old age. I'm so sorry Em. My daughters tried to save her but it was too late. Future Lucky family members should know this story.
I was born into a town, surrounding area looked pretty good, buildings, farms etc, didn't look like there a was a shortage of anything.
Sorry too many, mom tells me, meh, not really too fussed being your kid if you're too lazy to look after me, I'll wait for the next life.
I could already see a chap looking over, I didn't ask to be fed, but he still came, fed and named me. I'll always do my best to roleplay it up if someone's nice, but he was troubled. He was upset with some assholes in town carrying weapons and spouting Nazi BS.
He took me to show me his stashed weapon, but alas it had been stolen. He was already getting old but he asked me to finish what he couldn't, I agreed.
First off quick bit of tidy work around town, watching the two targets as I worked. Yep, they were def a prime couple of dooshes. I headed out of town to prep a bow and arrow, whilst further out I found a horse and cart had escaped, then a body and back pack. I finished the arrows and got extra rope for the bow to make outside of town, but when I returned there was no spare fencing for the horse. I tried telling someone how to make one but time was slipping away, I decided to swap the horse and cart with the empty one hitched up, dropping it off in the bakery and shutting the doors. (Doubt it stayed in there for long though, ha) I retrieved the bow and chased down the duo.
Saw the first prick with the knife, sill spouting like a 10yr old, shot him down in front of his buddy. Knew I'd be soon to follow but at least I kept my promise to you dad, well, I got one of the bastards a least!
I couldn't be more proud of you son.
I was somewhat fortunate to stumble across the other A-hole in his next game. He was my baby and he was bragging how he was a tyrant last game. I knew which one it was too instantly, the self proclaimed Dick-tator.
I told him I would get my children to kill him once they grew of age.
He ran around suspicious of everything, everyone.
He told a town guard of my plan to have one of his brothers or sisters kill him.
The town guard chased me out of town and to another settlement.
I waited around town til old age, gave my a knife to my daughter and hunted down Joseph for the last time.
I crept up behind him whilst he was talking to the town guard and finished the job.
This is very intriguing for a new player. Could you a) explain why it's a problem and b) maybe make a wiki article about it?
Big berry fields are logistical problem. We need to be able to get supplies in and out of the middle. It's about organising the base so it runs well and so you don't have to keep running back and forth when delivering supplies. (Dirt,Water etc.)
I'm not saying we should stop making large amounts of berry bushes, we just have to leave enough space to get supplies in and out.
Recently big berry farms are a too common sight.
Large expanses of berries can be annoying for the following reasons.
1. it makes it difficult to get dirt, bowls and buckets of water in for the berries.
2. Uses a lot of dirt and water.
3. Some people just hang around in there eating and not doing much at all.
4. Large berry fields makes the job of fertilising and watering that much more daunting when you see a large field of empty bushes, you start thinking "can i be bothered fertilising and watering all these?"
By now we know that the best farm layout is three by three crop and berry fields surrounded by floorboards for easy access.
I want to remind everyone that we have a method of fixing these huge berry fields.
However this method if not done right can result in the loss of a large amount of water. Do not attempt if new.
The Method:
This might be is somewhat known but little practised. This is how we can remove berry bushes and get the fields back to a manageable three by three layout.
1. Remove all berries off the bush you want to remove.
2. Wait until it goes dark green.
3. Add stakes to the bush.
4. Prepare a bowl of water and lay it next to the bush.
5. Bring shovel over to the bush.
6. Apply the water to the staked berry bush
7. Swap the empty bowl for the shovel and dig up the bush. (You have about two seconds from when it is watered. If you miss the two second window the water is wasted.)
Yellow bushes can be removed with a shovel without the water.
Dead bushes can be removed with an axe.
Nice story. I made the medic sign for the city. I thought that city had died out, glad to see some new residents. Let's keep this city going!
I agree, we need more people planting crops three by three. Huge berry fields are too hard to maintain and are hard to organise.
My favourite experience in OHOL is developing a twin town to grow along side it's sibling.
You run between towns mediating the needs of both.
Borrowing an axe, Making a bowl or two for your starter village.
As your children grow you tell them of the town just beyond and someday that you will show them the way.
People stumble across your village and you explain to them why you left.
Sometimes you are left with just your daughter and you tell her that you will fetch her a husband from the main town, or perhaps the main village dies out and you and your family have a chance to save it.
You need to put down a fence at the location you want to gather from then you can tie up your horse. This is most useful for timber, dirt and buckets of water.
Yeah it's really helpful to make markers. Another good skill to have is being able to read the landscape as you run around.
In my last eve run i was trying to find a location when i came across a fruiting cactus.
I said to my child "hmm people have been here" not far from that location we found a starter camp.
Yeah I've killed one like that
My suggestion would be the ability to add armour to rabbit skin shirt. One or two ingots of iron with hammer makes breastplate add to rabbitskin top = Armoured Rabbit skin top.
It would make it so you cannot pick up any weapons. It can take a knife or arrow blow but breaks after.
The villagers could then give them to the young mothers to protect them, or to the police so they can take a blow then retreat and get armed ready to counter attack.
I have a few suggestions
1. Make crops only grow on specific biomes and cant be planted elsewhere. (Wheat= Savanna. Berries = Grassland)
2. Make a Mesa Biome which has cliff walls around it. To break up how we are able to run forever without running into any obstacles.
3. Make a animal trap which is placed in snow and you have to kick penguins into it.
4. Fishing hole and a fish smoker. Fishing hole starts with around five fish inside and respawn a fish once every thirty mintues or so.

The town was hugh and someone builded a house a bit over the town.
This place awesome!That was me
I kept lagging in the big city so I went north to make a new settlement and I found one forge and some berries. I decided to stay there and make myself a little house.
I made some stone wall and a fence door. Then I hid some rose seeds in the snow, hoping that I could plant some special roses when I come back.
I had two boys, Alex and Adam, and two girls who didn't survive. One of my boys stayed with me and helped me.
I came back as a boy named Prince and was so happy to find my house like I left it. There was a man living there ( I think his name was Josh ) and offered his help to finish the little pen next to the house. We managed to finish it before he died and I put one goose who I named Alfred.
Also there is a little cemetery for the people who helped building this house, just a bit north from the pen.
Mason joined me and together we continued to build the house. I planted two roses in front of the pen and Alfred enjoyed them. I hope he is still there, quacking around in his little place.
I still have so much planned ! I want to make a berry farm on the right side with some beans and corn, finish the flooring and make a room where you can make stew and cook the eggs from Alfred.
I hope it's still beautiful as I remembered it and that no one fucked this place up ^^
I was the one who made the forge you stumbled across, I had tools ready to go. Such a nice spot up top, so much cactus fruit. In my second life i was able to pick and remove that lock on the blacksmith in the main town, that was annoying villagers across the generations. I locked up the weapons and made myself a crown and passed it onto the first Queen, Queen Hana. http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=342089
JackTreehorn wrote:-Make threshed wheat like tinder
like, chaff that you can burn?
As in, wheat sheaf + curved branch = straw, grain and chaff?
Yeah like that, but no chaff. Instead the straw is then able to be lit on fire with ember leaf or firebrand.
The only problem i could see with chaff is that it's only use would be as tinder and might add to the litter.
I was thinking this could help when all surrounding trees are chopped and you are trying to remake the fire.
Seems like a fair compromise, Lose the wheat that would be used for dirt or basket to gain tinder. Tinder is essentially worthless, until late game where it can be really hard to find close enough for it not to despawn in time.
-Replant trees
-Make threshed wheat like tinder
-Make stone walls destructible
-Last names should continue even if unnamed
-More stews
-Bear trap would be great, even better if humans can get stuck in them.
- A small wooden container to hold tinder or ember leaf which extends the despawn timer.

This is a guide to reduce the population of players in the game, and only have the assholes stick around.
So you claim that those strategies are effective and have no known counters? And the only reason towns exist is that there are not enough griefers around? If so, then it's a good place to write suggestions for Jason, what tweaks are needed to rebalance it.
I disagree, A better place would be the known bugs section rather than a griefers guide on the main forum.
*Face Palm*
You write a greifing guide... and you don't even know how to play the game, Yep this sounds like the current state of greifers. (If there is rope for a firebow, make stakes out of it.) makes no sense. Greifers don't need anymore encouragement. How about teach people how to play the game rather than ruin it.
