I born into a desert town with an uncle, granny, and two adolescents.
We had a farm going with stone hoe, beans squash and corn, carrot, then mom run up and i see a kiln and an oven.
Tool making havent started yet so i went out gathering iron
i got 3 NE, and seen a few more i was still 5 year old, 4 biome away
we had no bellows so i went and made a snare, snared a few rabbits, brought back one
asked uncle to cook it, he said "oh" then didnt do anything until i snared 5 more rabbits, and bit later he died on a snakePopulation was 4-5 as kids died all the time, finally a braided sister reached older age so i had my first niece who died?
i got two threads, made a pack and a pouch, cooked rabbit, got firewood
told them i start tool making, i was still 17granny brought up a stew pot and cooked it, i was like okay i got food here
then i realized there is no noozle, went out got 1 clay 2 iron and some stone for wells
came back made fire and then realized no hatchet, we had a rope so made one, later i seen near squashasked if we got 5 bowls, but granny just made stew
we had like 5-6 bowls, all filled with water, beans, soaked beans
ok i went out, i got 5 clay, made bowls and noozlewe had enough plates, even too much
a bigger niece was older wandering around kiln eating most food
other snared a bit then started stew making, simply tossed my coal out and ran away with basket, and firebrand run out of fire, that was 5 min minus, i already had 6 coal, no senseonly that they used my firewood and everything near camp
went out again got 5 more, we made crucibles, only that my iron was placed away from kiln so we made 4/5 with big niece
ofc soaked beans was near forgei still had 3 there and told big niece to get a short shaft, by that time small nice, the retard used up all firewood somehow
by this time we had like 4 babies and small niece thought that is a good idea putting them under the forge when we fired it up
after getting 15 branches and telling them multiple times, i was yelling at small nice Leala? to get her own firewood for stew, people asking stupid question like where is axe, well, you blocking me making one
i went put again and tried bring 7 only i was 53 with a small bar, no food at me so i died, and dumb niece finally went out to get branches, too bad she gonna find my pack
thats how my last words came
Stew is griefing, stew is a sin. 4th gen no bellows, no tools but we had seeds and clutter all overthanks Mela for help
pls dont make stew in starting settlement before tools, and even if you do, get your own stuff for it
but doesnt make sense to me that before axe and steel hoe, how can be sustainableonce i was even killed for eating stew as baby, so i start to hate stew
Every time I see you post about how bad other players are, you *never* mention that you offered direction or help.
This game really needs players to step up and teach newer players. I almost always ask my children if they are new, and if they are, I try to help fill in their gaps. If I am making other players useful, then I don't have to do as much work, and the game is a lot more fun.
Ironically, I have probably put in MANY hours into this game, and I *still* don't know how to smith. It seems like people who smith aren't ever interested in teaching, and it's very hard to follow along simply by watching. Yet, if I knew how, I would probably be the smithing boss (I tend to learn something and become an expert at it).
And spare me the 'there are websites that tell you how to do it, blah blah blah'. That's not how games should work. I am a busy person. I am not going to study up on how to play a game for fun. I am sure I will learn eventually.
Anyway, instead of complaining, why don't you delegate or teach. Tell people what needs to be done. Explain how to do it. Take initiative to lead, instead of busting your ass and then being bitter about it.

Way to go Trick, now you've done it.
GODDAMNIT!
![]()
Have you ever tried to tuck into a big meal while sitting on a horse? Have you ever been on a horse? It's no place for eating, trust me.
I could make it so they wait around for a bit after you get off. Like, you get off, and they stand there for 10 seconds before running away.
The point is, I want you to have to tie them up. I don't want them to just stand there like a dumb vehicle. People tie their horses up in real life. There were hitching posts in front of every building back in the day. Or else your horse (and cart!) would run away.
The idea is also that you set up established outposts, and the first step is building a hitching post there. That allows you to establish a "trade route" between the city and the outpost. This is another reason for roads: to mark the path to the outpost where the hitching post is located.
So I really don't want you to just "park" a horse wherever, tied to any tree.
Regarding eating along the way... well, you could imagine setting up hitching posts at regular intervals along the way, at roughly the spot where future travelers will also need to stop for lunch. Also where you will need to stop on the way back. In other words, trans-generational civilization.
As you can see, the horse isn't "broken." It just is a more detailed experience than most people are expecting. The horse, like everything else in the game, is a problem for you, the players to solve. It's not unsolvable. But it doesn't work like a horse "should" work in a game, which is just a way to make you go faster with no other consequences or wrinkles. In fact, I'd say the horse isn't wrinkly enough yet. It should also get hungry along the way...
That said, if you don't even have time to build the hitching post before the damn thing runs away.... I'll play with it and think about smoothing at least that part over.
Currently, the horse runs away the moment you get off. Even if I wanted to make a post for the horse somewhere, it would be impossible without losing the horse (or spending a stupid amount of time chasing after it).
While I get your 'vision', the reality is that horses that are tamed 1. don't run off immediately, and 2. can be tied to trees/branches/etc. during travels. The way it works as of now is absolutely infuriating.
Please fix them.
You go into any town with horses, and you almost never see them being used. Why? Because they suck.
Literally the moment you get off, the horse runs away. You can't even get off to eat for a split second (which in and of itself is weird - why can't I eat while sitting on the horse?). Even when you're loading/unloading stuff in the back when there's a cart, the horse is running all over the place.
It makes exploring nearly impossible. It makes gathering nearly impossible. It makes the horse pretty much useless.
I tried really hard to make it work in one of my earlier games today, and I was legitimately (like, actually for real) screaming at the game. I wanted to find a cliff, and shove the goddamned horse and cart right off of it.
What's the point of having it in the game when it's rendered, at worst, nearly useless, and at best, infuriating beyond belief, because of this? Why not allow us to tie the horse to trees? Why not make it so we can have a lasso (or some other rope type thing if you want to make it harder), that we can carry in our backpacks and use whenever we dismount?
And if you think that's too easy, then why not make it so that they lasso thing (or whatever it is), has a chance of failure/decay/breaking or something. I dunno... I think almost anything would make it better than it is now.

It's because the town is right next door to 2 bear caves, and a bunch of mothers were letting their kids die.
Was spawned back in that town actually! The bear got killed but another came by at some point before my second birth, I was Luna first life and then Toni Panda in my second! Who were you my dude?
I was Lason (died to second bear after I helped kill the first one), and then born into town again as Herick (but died because I got a phone call).

The abusive players in this game can make the game really off-putting.
I think there should be a way to report other players. If someone consistently comes up with reports, then they get an IP and account suspension or something.

Thanks mum for being loving abd taking my name suggestion.
I met pain in the ass this life, He was rude but helpful I guess. I did some sheep feeding and farming nothing special.
What made this life stand out was that we had a neighboring town with an unrelated bloodline. They had a bear attack and we helped them them.
I raised Hilos, A baby girl from another bloodline. But towards the end of my life another unrelated brown kid came and said the town wanted war!!!
I sure hope that wasn't the same town we helped. I hope war dosn't happen. And i hope it wasn't ou allied town that declared war on us.
Was the name suggestion "Lucas"?
I was born to Eve. I was the first 'Lucas', and she told all of her kids to name their children Lucas.
If you look through the family tree, there is a ridiculous number of Lucas's.
Some dipshit decided to make a marked grave in the middle of a town in one of the most inconvenient places. I tried taking it down with a variety of tools, and it seemed entirely immune.
So are these impossible to move?
This seems like an exceptionally annoying way to grief.
I have seen a few towns with doctors which is a good sign. I'm yet to see any successful healing but people were still learning.
Wondering if the amount of murders is lower because of the good doctors.
I've been healed twice - once from a hog attack, and once from a murderer.
I like it.
Yay!
Faith in this community is restored ![]()
You can also stab them, and then heal their wounds.
So I've never killed anyone in game before but here comes a lady saying 'all blacks are slaves' and threatens to shoot me since I have dark skin in this life in game. Noticing the obvious threat this woman is I go and get a bow and kill her, I immediately get stabbed, BUT! I have enough time to explain what happened and I get healed!
Moral of the story nip problem people in the bud as quick as you can before they can do damage, I'm glad I didn't end up murdered there!
Yay!
Kill all racists. Don't let them play.
I'm sorry for mom, i was probably the cutest, that's why
There was so much food when i died, it's frightening how food quiclky disappear in this game. According to the family tree a lot of people of the branch i'm from died of starvation some twenty five mins ago. I hope some people made it, 47 gens by now, it would be a shame if it stopped now.
Pshhh... I was clearly the cuter one. She set me down so she could get a proper look at me, that's all.

I guess i'm the other baby Trick (Prince, my old brother was Tyrone according to the family tree), i can tell what is next.
I was born while mom and warrior was in the wild, in the middle of a snow biom. My birth complicated things and a girl soon came too, but we managed to make it out of the biom and all survived. We arrived in a giant town with things everywhere. Nobody was alive, here and there an old grave, that's all. First it was just me and princess, my sister. She was not a chatty girl, and soon we began to work. Warrior and mom helped too, but mom was busy with kids, and Warrior died of old age soon after the arrival.
I came to the compost area, only one pile of composted soil was left, of two baskets. The boar's pen was full of dung, and the berry farm too, so i focused on carrots and wheat (only seeds and dry rows) and soon it started. In the meantime mom gave birth to many other kids. We had some silent and inactive people, it could have be more fun, but i was happy to be part of the ressurection of such a great city. For unknown reasons most of my brothers and sisters died and we ended with two women. They hopefully did it and gave birth to many other kid.
At this time mom came. She had a backpack full of dead pigs. She told she was gonna leave the town for another town, far east, from where she came. She said it was full of bad and racist people who caused her lot of troubles, and she was seeking revenge. Warrior was the only good man, the one who trusted in her. And with this bag full of pig, she will destroy the entire city. Was something like "i must die in the city. They will try to loot my body, but they will take pigs and then they will be unable to eat cause of pigs in there hands. Muhahahaha".It was the last time i saw her, i wonder if she suceed. From the rest of my life the city grown, i worked on farms and compost mainly. A girl made a key and was able to open the door (luck?) full of knifes, bows and arrows. This girl was strange (one of the silent, who does not answer, people). She locked herself, don't know how, in the room with the key out, maybe a bug. I realesed her, she said it was lag. But she was walking near people with knife in hands, so i gave my backpack and knife, the legacy of warrior, to a young boy to prevent problems, in case if. I died two mins after.
Yes, I was Tyrone. I couldn't remember my name.
Not gonna lie... I was lowkey pissed off at you for stealing mom's attention, leading to my death. I am glad you made it, though.
I just played another game and spawned in Cafe Town. I remembered this journey and went out to find it myself. Sure enough, I stumbled upon the big city, but it was going through a famine. I ended up dying of starvation not long after my arrival.
I personally think the bell thing should be fixed, such that it cannot be heard beyond a certain radius. It's enormously frustrating to hear a bell and never be able to reach it. The 'run across biomes for an hour' game isn't fun, IMO.
A young boy was born into a thriving city with stone walls, horses, paved paths, and a vast graveyard. There the people were fed and happy, but it was not without conflict. The boy witnessed tragedy as one of his relatives perished after having been locked into a chamber full of weapons, only to have the key--and the killer--go missing. The boy was Trowa.
It quickly became apparent that there was little else to do in this city. Trowa ached for adventure, but everyone's needs were met and his options were few. So Trowa convinced his Aunt Tye, who was still bearing children, to come with him to start a new city. The two gathered two carts of supplies and a small band of the willing, including Trowa's little brother Wayne and his cousins Mary and Donna, Tye's daughters. Donna lacked experience--she could hardly feed herself--but most of the band survived the two year journey due east, across desert and tundra. Soon enough, they found a grassland with suitable resources. They immediately went to work clearing land and starting a farm.
Aunt Tye died soon after they arrived. Luckily, Mary and Wayne were skilled farmers, and soon carrots sprung from the ground. Trowa's aging back ached from the journey, but he managed to explore the wildnerness and bring beans, squash, and some iron. Trowa was teaching Donna to make a hatchet when she fell to the dirt in front of him, dead. Mary was the only remaining potential mother. It seemed the colony was headed for doom.
Mary looked cold. Trowa had but an apron, straw hat, and snakeskin boots, which he gave to her. Immediately she birthed a girl. It gave everyone hope.
Trowa breathed his last after having built the town's first kiln. He did not get to say goodbye.
[Many years later]
A girl, Mimi, was born to a growing farm. Wooden floors surrounded the town's forge, and the central gathering place was abundant with crocks of stew. People were happy and joking. A sign proclaimed CAFE TOWN. Mimi knew she would live a comfortable life, but she heard an echo that seemed to go back for generations. Had she been here before? It couldn't be.
Mimi confided in her sisters, Mi and Mili, telling her of these strange feelings. Mimi somehow knew that there was a shining city not far from their home, and that it was their destiny to return. Mi, ever adventurous, was immediately ready. Stew bowls in hand, the pair set off. Mili stayed behind. She never saw her dear sisters again. She had no way of knowing, but both of her sisters had perished, having encountered a wild boar. They never did find out for sure if Mimi's feelings were true.
Mili carried on in Cafe Town, heartsick at not knowing what had happened to her sisters. She toiled over the farm, contributed to the stew pot, and kept the community fed. She birthed many sons, some of whom were of filthy mind and incestuous. But from a very young age one of her sons, Juniper, spoke of the same vision which her sister Mimi spoke not long ago. She knew that he would be determined to make the same journey Mimi had made. By the time Juniper was old enough to leave, though, Mili's bones were aching with age. She bid her son farewell, expecting never to see him again.
Juniper marched out, due west, with a basket of supplies.
[Four years later]
One afternoon, while the good people of Cafe Town were joking around the stew pot, a strange man rode into town on a horse with a cart. The man rode up to Mili, who knew her son on sight. She fell to her knees and gave thanks to the Stew God for returning her boy safely home. The horse, Juniper said, came from a vast, abandoned city two years' journey to the west. He told them there were more horses, tools, carts, full pots of stew, and mysterious locked rooms full of weapons. Juniper's--and Mimi's--visions were true.
Juniper's brother, Warrior, a vile beast who desecrated the graves of his family, took the horse and set off for the city. In Juniper's absence, the town had not kept up the berry farm and the stew was running out. A famine hit the town and Juniper perished, frantically searching for a wild berry.
It is not known if Warrior made it to the city, or if others have returned, but it is rumored that the shining city was once known as Stormville, ancestral home of the family Storm. Long may the Storms live.
---
This has been a trip. What a fun game. If you're bored in a big city, get a group and start a new one. Such an adventure!
(In case it wasn't obvious, I was Trowa, Mimi, and Juniper. Thanks to my moms. All hail Eve Storm.)
Warrior and my mother started to head back to the city you speak of. Unfortunately, my mother had another baby on the way, and I starved to death. I wondered what would happen.
Client 113 - Server 111.
What does this mean, and how do I fix it?
My name was Alex Flower.
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=372246
I was born to Lucky Flower, who died shortly after I was born. Thankfully, my lovely Aunt Wateen took care of me in my infancy.
My other Aunt, Firdaws, was not a very attentive mother. She was having all kinds of babies, and just abandoning them in the midst of a healthy, burgeoning village. Inspired by my Aunt Wateen's loving kindness, I took it upon myself to start caring for one of her baby girls as soon as I was old enough. I fed her until she was able to reach the berry bushes for herself.
As a consequence of her mother's neglect, she was an unnamed baby. So, I gave her a name myself - Berry. I was only 5... I wasn't very creative. Surprisingly, her mother eventually acquiesced and officially named her Berry later on.
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=372115
We were only children, but we loved each other dearly. We had formed a special bond through our early years of hardship. To prove how much she was grateful, she adoringly followed me around all over the village. I wanted to be a hard worker - she wanted to admire me.
One morning, I returned to town with a bunch of eggs for breakfast, and stumbled upon yet another baby girl that was being neglected. Like myself, her mother had also died shortly after she was born. And just like Berry, I set out to take care of her.
Unfortunately, seeing me care for another girl like I had cared for her enraged Berry. She was jealous that my caring nature was not reserved exclusively for her. She screamed and yelled at me for what she believed was a betrayal, and threatened to kill herself.
I pleaded with Berry to be reasonable, but out of protest, she ran around and allowed herself to starve to death. I was heartbroken.
Ironically, this drove me and the other girl closer together. Like Berry, I nurtured her until she was old enough to go out on her own. Also like Berry, I gave her a name - Orchid. She later became my wife.
Orchid and I had an incredible love for each other. I would return home from my hard days of working around the village, and she would happily greet me with excitement. She agreed to name our first daughter Orchid in order to permanently enshrine the name into our family. I was overwhelmed when our baby Orchid came into our lives.
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=372267
We had a few other children - Tiger, and another one who I hardly got to know. They were good, hard-working kids. I was proud to be their father. Sadly, I don't think they fully appreciated their family history.
My wife Orchid and I lived a long and happy life together, both of us dying of old age. We spent our last moments together with our daughter's son - our grandbaby. I passed on my hide to him, and told him to pass it on to his son. Hopefully, he'll keep the tradition in the family.
No reason to care about babies? Huh?
Everything you do is meaningless without them. It's not entertainment. What you worked on during your life will be lost if no babies survive. When a village is short on babies, they aren't pretending to want a baby for pure entertainment or role playing. They know that the future is doomed without one.
If two men are left, and no babies possible, they suicide. The game isn't a "what can you accomplish in one hour" simulator. If it was, those two men would work their asses off to build whatever they could before they died. No, it's a collective, trans-generational project simulator.
That's the point of the game.
You're saying that point needs to be underlined with a personal motivation, like, "A surviving baby of mine is my only chance to continue in this village later and keep working on my own project."
But if you want to get that meta, Kinrany, what is the point of working on your own project more and more anyway? Why are people motivated to do that? What's the point?
To your other point, maybe there should just be a suicide button. No sense in making someone reload the game to do that, and no sense in making them wait to starve to death or hunt down a rattlesnake.
Yes! Please make a suicide button (that isn't easy to accidentally click). I have wasted SO MUCH TIME suiciding, and aggro-ing bears to die (sorry towns). If I could simply click on a button, that would be awesome.
I think the lineage ban shouldn't be put into effect until you've reached 30 and when you've been murdered/have murdered. Otherwise, the ban disproportionately hurts new players and abandoned babies. And you're right, it also matters to players who end up playing for a long time (people you don't really want to penalize for playing). Sometimes I go on a OHOL binge, and end up prematurely quitting when I find myself in Eve hell.

Time spent in the game is not an accurate metric, people also read the wiki/onetech.
The worst part is that children are not expected to be ignorant: general knowledge of the game's rules is much more important than the knowledge specific to the current village.
Ideally it should take a single life tops to understand the basics. Memorizing all the recipes should be unnecessary and impractical. One way to accomplish this is for every village to have a unique environment. Soil, humidity, plant and animal species, materials.
Yes, this means that even the author has to be bad at their own game.
I think it took me about 15 lives to live for more than 5 minutes.
If you spawn into the game without a single clue what you're doing, you die pretty much immediately.
A tutorial would be helpful.
Also, it should *never* be assumed that players will go and seek outside sources to learn how to play.
Yeah, I realized that there are too many side-effects here, so I'm rolling back this change. The old lineage ban will still apply in all cases, just like it used to. If you let a baby die, they aren't coming back to your village for 3+ hours.
HOWEVER, to help brand new players out, the lineage ban will only kick in once a player has lived a total of 2 hours in the game. So their first two hours of living (and dying) will be lineage-ban-free.
These time-counters will reset every time the servers reset (once a week, after children-of-men), so the first two hours of a new server are kind of a wild west period with no lineage bans.
This will also help players who are getting back into the game after a time away from it (who haven't played since the last server reset).
This will allow griefers to return to a village within their first two hours of living. However, given that they have to grow up a bit to grief, this effect will be somewhat limited, because they will be chewing up their time clock every time they grow up.
(As for why these time counters don't last across server resets, I'm trying to keep the implementation quick and simple.... also, I'm not implementing inter-server communication for this feature anyway, so the servers will all be keeping separate records).
I don't think you should have rolled it back. I played today, and some white asshole (probably YAHG) blocked my mother from being able to feed me (a black baby) in the biggest town, and I starved to death. The rest of my games were all small towns, or Eves. As soon as I start spawning as Eve or baby of Eve, I stop playing. There's only so many games I am willing to start from scratch.
On that point, I think there is a problem with the frequency of Eve spawns. Many people don't want to go through the monotony of starting up from scratch over and over again. It sucks. It doesn't develop new skills. It doesn't feel fun - it feels like a chore. It's also REALLY hard on new players.
I think you should be able to choose to be an Eve, or otherwise only spawn with the highest generation groups (in order). Bans should only happen in the event of a murder.
There are people who enjoy being an Eve. Let those people opt into that role, or force them into it only when there aren't alternatives. I think *most* players want to play with other people.
Also, spawn us close to other camps/groups so that we can stumble upon them, or *ACTUALLY* make it to a bell when it rings (what's the point of the bell if it's impossible to make it in your lifetime?)
