We suspect that people using the new longer speech for their last words don't get recorded in the lineage server. Amara does show in the lifelog data.
On a related note ... I wish you could use experr waypoints to find your own home. I got lost today as a ginger and figured I would just use the waypoint to go home. Nope ... it was useless.
You can often use /leader
You wouldn't happen to also know why some names in the family trees are so much larger than the rest?
Those are all the same account, the one that got searched for. For Jason's links, that will always be the eve.
I put it in so that when I searched my lives, I could pick out all of mine in that tree. Though in truth, I use a local version that also marks people I know (or had trouble with)
There are a couple things going on.
My family trees are updated from daily (as in once every 24 hours) data dumps. The names seem to lag behind the birth/death information a bit, leading to numbers, but should be available the next day.
There is bug with the official lineage site where some lives are not recorded, creating breaks in the lineage. We suspect that the lineage server wasn't updated to handle the longer last words.
Main lineage site only records people on death, so there may also be temporary missing links with people still living.
Don't worry Slinky we will get at least 25 character sprites for each race, as Jason promised us at least 100 character modals, and we have four races... but I think that he should add another race, so we will have 20 character sprites per race, being an even number so we would have an equal division between female and male 10fem/10mal per race.
The original plan was for six races.
The minimum expected is to keep your kids alive. We all realize we can't play unless somebody feeds us. Beyond that it varies wildly depending on what both mother and child want - some people want a relationship, many have done this a few hundred times and want to move on.
I generally ask my kids if there is anything they want to learn, and perhaps if they know the power of yum, especially if new. The ones who want to learn are fairly rare, and there are often new children and other emergencies to deal with, so it can be hard to teach. I could probably do with some improvements both in questions and offering information on the town and situation.
I look for free clothing, sometimes a bit outside town where people die and don't get noticed. Occasionally I make clothes when I see materials available. If we are short, I sometimes give a kid piece of clothing or two, because the first one makes a noticeable difference. But I may have more kids, so have to kind of ration in that situation. I'm more likely to give away my clothes to a new player. As one yourself, depends on your comfort level with survival. People who beg/demand tend to make me less generous.
Incidentally, baby gameplay is one of the areas the game designer feels is lacking. He doesn't take many suggestions, but does occasionaly pick something up and run with it (e.g. leadership system) if you've got some ideas to make things more engaging for mother and child.
whats the bug with Eve spawns? has anyone report on it?
There are two things happening. DestinyCall correctly describes the intended change and it's effects.
The bug is that we jumped 20k west. It was probably counting donkeytown as the westernmost player. 20k between races is kind of a hard block on progress, although I saw some plane activity in the maplogs. Yes, it's been reported.
Serious question - should all new players spawn as sterile Eves until they are able to die of old age?
One of my thought experiments was separating players by experience. server1 takes everyone for their first few hours and so on up. They would be surrounded by people just as lost, but also much more able to relate and pass on recent discoveries. Then you go up a server and encounter players a just a little bit more experienced, but still pretty close to your skill. Vets could custom server down if they wanted to teach. Player populations would never support it unfortunately.
Some of us remember the early days where pretty much nobody new how to survive. You'd hang out by some berry bushes and maybe try to get some farming started. If you were the last male, maybe you had some time to try and figure out a few steps of smithing or how to start a fire.
I also remember seeing some streamers say they were frustrated getting dropped into an advanced town, and wanted to try and start from scratch some time so they could figure out all the basics. I think they had played earlier versions and were a bit used to that style though.
Is there a command or something to identify your leader(s) or follower(s)?
/leader
/follower
Commands are now listed on the ESC screen.
It's not great information, but perhaps enough to figure out what is going on. The system does currently expect you to notice the ding message that you got leadership, and with so many ding-a-lings it's easy to ignore them.
June 11th is the birthday of late actor Gene Wilder. He's well known for his portrayal of Willy Wonka in the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
Cocoa. Chocolate bars. Chocolate ice cream. And chocolate milk as he takes away milk container yumming ![]()
I had a runin with bobo Saturday. They got leadership, though only killed a few people, but I need more practice figuring out heirarchy and forming new groups, so didn't really do much about it.
My main baby overloads were early camps on server cycling. Those numbers have been adjusted, and I don't think I've played that situation since.
Haven't been too overloaded lately; had one childless life. Extra babies can be troublesome when trying to teach a new player. Often I'll try to work with child, but get overwhelmed with more and go back to the fire.
I agree you can't have absolute fertility control when players need get into the game. But some players are overwhelmed, and others pine for children that never come. Perhaps we could express a preference, without having to hamper our own survival. Right now the options are:
Homeland (absolute block) - constrains your movement and activities.
Clothes - if you want to reduce your fertility, you have to increase your food use.
Heat - maybe standing around a fire (or out in the cold) isn't what you want to do.
Yum - kind of essential for survival now, somewhat limited by how fast you get hungry, and currently not possible to reduce.
Ousider curse nerf: No more curses outside your family
We had this once, back in the age of warswords. Jason didn't want you automatically cursing the other side of a war. Problem is griefers would just go grief a different family. Make any class of player uncursable, and griefers will arrange to be in that class.
It did lead to fenced towns and mistrust though. If you can't punish a griefer from another family, you have to be darn sure you don't let them in in the first place.
do SID babies not impact your gene score? because that is very common
No. This is why people get mad at runners - they could have died and spared you score.
Often this is deciding factor for me:
Accidentally clicked login? /die.
You abandoned me? Darn right I'm sticking around to ding your score too.
oh my god and i was always searching Burdock!
You saved your town town water and iron, so that's not really bad, though at some point it gets hard to find.
The flat stone is a nice signal, but you don't actually need it for domestic bait. Just bowl + pouch. Perhaps pouch + snare storage would suffice as signal. Not good space for skinning though, so you'd kind of need two rabbit stations.
I am already frustrated by how many times I have randomly named a baby something weird because of the name commands.
I've also got complete for naming, so I can see what the approved name is, and cycle to another one if I don't like it.
I often live with typos in regular speech, but the game doesn't understand what I mean when if a name is slightly off.
I have this in my mod, but I haven't worked out to limit to "known" names. Maybe people you've ever moused over? Mentioned names would be a problem because one of the motivations was Ugochukcachowhatever - somebody would have to type it correctly.
and any rails you might see are much shorter than before.
Not for lack of trying

I can't tell where this mad railbuilder is going, but I've seen at least two of them.
- Distribute iron semi random on the map, but make it more rare before the family update (if a higher challenge is wanted).
Jason hates searching gameplay. Maybe with iron guidance stones.
Stupid idea: iron deposits on grid, not linked to wells. Everybody can get a little iron; only whites can mine deeper; scatter mining expert stones throughout badlands.
More seriously, Jason wants problems, not solutions. If you want to pursue this, focus on the "Iron is too abundant" part.
My experience is that towns have some iron, sometimes little. Mostly there is enough, rarely hard out, and I wouldn't know what to do if we were out and needed some, short of go look for dead towns to loot.
Having a homesick bubble above your head all the time while out of homeland would be very annoying. There would have to be a brand new UI homeland indicator somewhere, similar to the way curse tokens are displayed.
Jason's head, looking down on you with a twinkle in his eye whenever you are fertile.
The multitudes flow forth from my turgid loins!
My essences rain down upon their supple bodies, like the sweet milk of heaven.
VOG is the father of all. And he loves you.
The alpha players are certainly disenchanted. I've several times seen new and returning players show up the discord and get told to leave and not play the game. Sometimes this is their own conclusion after the new mechanics are described (not in the best light)
Max 1 baby per female is the dominant reason behind the spike from 21 to 27
Correlation is not causation. That said, nice work, and I've definitely had my score tanked by baby flood.
lol, who ever VOG is (would be great to have some ingame hints or did i miss them) must have a very bad gene score, since taking care of just few is for sure lot more difficult then to take care of tons of children like VOG needs to do... I guess VOG will never become a leader!
Voice Of God is the little bit of admin features Jason put in that lets him jump to different players, make speech appear anywhere, and set any cell to any item. As far as we know, none except Jason has access to this mode on his servers. So, VOG is Jason.
Do lives from server1 - server15 count towards your genetic fitness score?
No, people were farming score there. Currently minActivePlayersForFitness is 15, similar to a lot of other controversial features.
