Provided the snow bank is far away enough
Also the first volley will attract bystanders who are potential crackheads who curse you for snowballing

Idk, 4 ropes sounds like a pretty good yield to me. Comparing it to the price of a pine wall seems dumb, since it's the wall that's ridiculously expensive, those ropes have muuuuch better uses. One wall is useless, but 5 buckets is amazing

You have an explanation as to how this most recent update encourages people to play for their family's survival?

Well, for one, if a village is in your way or you want to claim their oil drill, you can kick them out. Claiming resources helps your own lineage. Plus with the closer Eve spawns, this exchange between families will hopefully be more common, I'm liking this dream Jason has of families either trading or battling. There are definitely changes that need to be made to the sword though.

Also if people make a trillion swords from pipes, they are either trying out the update that's only been out for a few days, which you can't blame, or it's a griefer who really does not care for their lineage and never has or will. Griefers are gonna grief

If you use paper and then get a foreigner to use paper, they'll say the exact same thing, but in their own language. This means you can link up whatever you said to what they said. For example, if a sheet said 'Welcome traveller', when they read it, it could say something like 'Valsim kluxittur' (Or whatever the syllables are). Obviously that makes Welcome = Valsim and Traveller = Kluxittur

Using this, one could make sheets with the most commonly needed words, so that foreigners can learn what to say by matching their speech with yours. I came up with a list of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Directions: North - East - South - West
Verbs:  Feed - Need - Kill - Help - Get - Farm - Take - Run - Die - Come - Am/Is - Make
Nouns: Fuel - Fire - Sheep - Compost - Iron - Water - Food - [Plants vital for civilisation, e.g berries milkweed and carrots]
Connectives: Or - And - Because (or 'As') - For

Example phrases:
If you need help with producing rope, you can say the words for 'Come Help Farm Milkweed'

If you're low on pies because there's no meat, say the words for 'Come Help And Kill Sheep'

Fire is dying, 'Need Fuel For Fire'

A mine is needed to get iron, 'Help Get Iron North'
Etc. Try and make these vocabulary sheets in every town at some point. Would help to have some more vocabulary in the replies too

Nope.  That woman could have produced more if she hadn't made the property.  The rope is a bucket, say for milk.  Also, I doubt that you used up all closeby springs.  That's really late for a diesel engine.  And making a diesel engine before oil just isn't good to begin with.  Your experience doesn't tell much about late village life in general, more like a late village life with inferior players.

Three pipes?  Are you that slow are using the roller and bore Jason, or was the family out of iron?

Oh hey... a loom before oil also.  Making that also consumed water earlier that could have gotten used to get oil up.  And a sword.  I don't blame Dodge for 'testing' it, but it does indicate a problem, since he was clearly NOT playing for his lineage there, when you experienced the water crisis later because of him NOT playing for the sake of his lineage.  Really, Dodge's comment should clue you in that this update worked AGAINST the goal of people playing for their lineages.  Oh... and Dodge was a woman, wasting water and wanting to go to war.  Fertile women dying doesn't contribute to lineages also.

The abundant resources had an aesthetic effect that was more pleasing.  As someone else said it made it feel like you were out in the wilderness instead of in some picked over teenage wasteland (alright, the person I've parphrased... I think it's Psykout... didn't say 'teenage wasteland').

You've been really snarky lately sad
I don't think you should this annoyed by the update

#131 Re: Main Forum » Stress vs. Excitement: What makes a game fun? » 2019-05-12 18:17:30

99% of the time for me it's excitement. When I live a life, I usually focus on the present and don't have to worry about what needs to be made. If something is lacking though, I strive to fix it. But most of the time, that's something more remote, like lack of buckets or a need for compost.
Chasing griefers won't really interrupt small things like that for me, and I live for the chase big_smile

4) /love if they show you their kids
5) try to learn their language

Karltown the matchmaker, haha. Her love cannot be held back by some language barrier

#134 Re: Main Forum » Surely this is good for the game..encourages trade and family survival » 2019-05-11 21:37:44

Ay thats me in the top, the old ginger.

I got here from the belltower, and started learning the language of the locals. Then some balding ginger teen snapped and started stabbing all the foreigners. I was the last one in that little area to get away, and I made it to a horse, then came back to find the killer slain.

The rest of that life was a constant fight between trying out the new language thing, and also not starving, because NO ONE was making any food.
Also because there was no one to make the food.
The town was desolate

#137 Re: Main Forum » VOG water pump survey » 2019-05-08 18:51:28

I saw an exhausted newcomen pump, and everyone there was very unprepared. They had just got a Multipurpose, and they were panicking that there was no more water. Even so, there was no way they could get an oil drill up in time.

Instead of a random chance of it running dry, we need warning. Can it please just move slowly through phases that make it clear it will be dry in a few generations, so players have a sense of urgency. If it just suddenly goes dry, there's not much the town can really do in time before everything starves

Sounds fun, but I would've given warning so it's a fair fight

Good luck Fragility!

No thanks, I don't want some griefer coming in and killing all girls within 5min of arriving in town.

I doubt that would actually happened if the town was armed. And it would definitely be armed if there was a bell to attract the griefers in the first place

#142 Re: Main Forum » Thanks Jasus for the ladders! » 2019-04-25 20:18:11

Yeah, but they decay...
thats the big problem, not many people will take care of it

#143 Re: Main Forum » warning others » 2019-04-25 20:16:05

Just need some shouting in game. /shout then say what you gotta say.
There's not really a need for a cooldown, since it'll be a pain to write /shout every time

Eeerrh, it's more that bragging and baiting griefers are the ones pissing people off. Banning griefing is stupid, it's inevitable and undoubtedly fun for a lot of people. It's not worth banning over

I want to give you the tools to collectively rise up and defend yourself against the griefers.

In that case can we have some sort of murder doll in the tutorial so that new players know how to defend themselves? Since it's part of the controls, I think it's better to have the tutorial show them as it teaches the bare basics of ALL the controls

#148 Re: Main Forum » Craptastic 3D mod for OHOL » 2019-04-24 21:48:44

Seems cool, but has its flaws. Obviously it's very hard to see danger coming from the south for one

#149 Re: Main Forum » Jason might as well go quiet again » 2019-04-24 21:44:59

With the second quote, it seems unfair to assume it's a snappy tone

I also want to share one life i had:

I was born as daugther, my mother showed me the graveyard and she told me that we are grave keepers.
When i was a bit older i told her that i will not bury the dead and that it is bad.
She was very upset because of it and told me that i am no longer her daughter and also cursed me.
Then i told other people in the village how mean my mother was, but they dident care.
So i told everyone i will go and commit suicide, they also dident care about that (i was the last fertile female)
Right after i told everyone i left the village, but not to commit suicide, but instead to make a bow and arrow to kill my mum.
When i came back with a daughter in my hands and an arrow in my backpack everyone was gone.
I then had many more children and they also had children. I destroyed all the graves and told my kids about my evil mother and they should never bury people.
Later an old lady came back, she had the bones from my mother and another guy. I think she wanted to bury them but i prevented it.
In my last words i told my mum that i destroyed all the graves.

This made me happy to read. I would've shot her too
