I've several times made an outlying kiln for pottery work. It's nice being able to put the pottery close by and all around. An extra adobe (you can still make charcoal for pumps/smith), tongs, and firebrand are easy, no fancy bellows needed.

And if the forge is in a bad spot, you can often try to position it as a seed for a more spacious forge later.

#152 Re: Bug Discussion » Buggy eve placements » 2020-05-14 14:20:15

It's not a bug. They used to be 200 spacing I think (the second level graticle on the map was chosen to have the same spacing), but got changed to 50 to slow down the westward advance.

Perhaps some adjustment could be made - eves are tripping over each other; they spread out of the center, so the new ones spawn in the center of the civilized area.

#153 Re: Main Forum » auto run mini tutorial » 2020-05-13 17:26:01

I think double-click to autorun was the first thing I added to my mod, and the motivation for making a mod at all - rapid clicking (or holding) was physically uncomfortable for me. Since running stops when the character reaches the cursor, I've since made run my default movement key.

What i wonder is, i thought stone buildings and roads are permanent even after server reset, at least that i read somewhere here, so that a road system between villages can develop. Is this still so? Because i dont see much roads on the map at all...

Mechanics have changed a bit. There was a time with some natural restoration, but some items were immune. I don't think that system is currently in use.

Another system clears chunks of the map that haven't been seen in I think a week, but only on server restart.

Server *resets* (apoc or Jason when he thinks conditions changed significantly) are total - nothing survives. Well, I guess live players survive an apoc, though many die without the support their former clothes and town.

How do you claim abandoned wells as eve?

Take water. Maybe run the pump for mechanicals. Look up "famuse" in onetech for the items that trigger it.

thx, i do not fully understand the map, first there where two spots on the map no matter how far i zoomed in or out, neither was one of the villages where i build a road to south west.

That link is to a previous world. The base url will look at the most recent monument (looks like Garden as of this writing) at the most recent time. The map data is only published once a day, your road may not be there yet if it was recent.

You get homesick when leave your homeland -or- enter somebody else's. Eve (1st gen only) get free reign when they leave another's homeland. Anybody else who touches another's homeland gets their baby switch permanently turned off until they enter their own homeland.

and how can i see if the well is in use? there was only one female which did not get child's but i did.

Hover over it and see if says "boos family well" or "abandoned well"

One question, i started as eve and could only find dry natural well sites, even if searching with horse on the lines. is this natural?

Expected... good? eh.

Open up the funnel in lower right, data tab, Pick "Now", and "Show". Zoom out a little to see the main birth clusters. Circled points are eves - pretty much in the middle of the civilized area and spawning on top of one another. You'll likely have to run for a while to find fresh springs/iron spots.

#158 Re: Main Forum » How do your lifes feel in the leadership update? » 2020-05-10 13:28:49

I mostly got leader when I was already in prune stage. Once I informed people of the cow pen I built.

Last week an old lady followed me as a baby sitting on the fire, but I didn't see anything that needed urgent attention, and spent most of my life wandering out of town anyway.

#159 Re: Main Forum » Yum chain isn't overcoming food penalty in highly developed towns » 2020-05-10 13:19:35

I find two things wierd about thy yum system

1. There is this weird pacing where sometimes you eat a couple things at once, and then go for a really long time without needing food at all. It can also be hard to pack for trips - pies don't do it it anymore so how good you are to travel depends on where you happen to be in your yum cycle (large bonus, or just about to run out) rather than the availability of good travel food.

2. There is a yum cliff if you run out of unique foods, where you were fine for a while and suddenly go to ravensouly devouring things. Perhaps its rationalized as a civilization wide nutritional deficiency. Still, you'd expect that to manifest it weakness, not insatiable hunger.

#160 Re: Main Forum » LEADING THE DOVERS - Posse issues, a griefer, and mild success. » 2020-05-09 18:51:45

A guess - the posse size may have been determined when the first attack began. To get the benefits of exile, you might have to drop and create a new posse.

#162 Re: Main Forum » New idea for killing » 2020-05-08 00:14:16

Perhaps we if have nearly free first-aid - anyone can "hold the wound closed" to stop the death timer. The majority can hold more wounds. Heirarchy can be tied in by giving you a notice when an ally gets wounded, and they can't help if they aren't around, so we aren't relaying on the server to count who's nearby and do a bunch of math.

For this to work you do have to be able to wound the griefers, so we need to go back to having some degree of control and wide distribution of weapons and pads.

Might still be too much. With more wounds we might need easier healing, and the organized greifers will be able to use all of it to protect each other.

The wounded notice for allies might be useful regardless, a lot of the problems for victims are related to information and coordination. Knowing someone might come save you could be a nice incentive to join up.

#163 Re: Main Forum » Well, At Least They Dug Up the Berry Bushes, Right? » 2020-05-04 02:49:06

I was in one of the towns Saturday (I think Killian) By the time I figured out who the conspirators were, there weren't enough people left in town to form posse. When they finally went after me I just left. Found a horse in a dead town I was in earlier (wouldn't be surprised if was the gang, they hit at least one other town) Was heading towards gingers when I ran across some other people from my fam, also on horses. It had been a while, so I led them back and there were others already. I guess half the town fled and then came back. A jungle person was there and through several paper rewrites she explained that her town got hit as well.

Hardly any children - are you sure you don't have custom server set, or ending up in donkeytown?

Selection is something like best of the last 10 births, so top 10% is about right.

#168 Re: Main Forum » Why was iron nerfed » 2020-04-28 21:18:47

Jason believes it will be easier to balance the game without infinite iron, and doesn't like gameplay that involves wandering around looking for things.

Alontae Balasa wrote:

1. How high of a gene score do you need to spawn as an Eve? I think my gene score was 42.5 when I spawned as an Eve.

Best of the last 10 births, when an eve is needed.

2. With the current version of the game, are only four families are allowed? So Eves only spawn once a family or multiple families have died out?

Might be more if population was high enough, but the game treats a missing race as a force-eve condition.

3. Can Eves have babies anywhere outside other families' homelands until they make a well site?

Yes. In theory the lineage could stay nomad if they never tap a well or enter another's homeland. Of course if that does happen everybody else in the family becomes silently infertile, so it's a big risk.

Another Random Bonus Question: How long does it take for the color to fade away from characters in the family tree?

Code says "full gray in 7 hours, starting after 2 hours"

#170 Re: Bug Discussion » Dropping items on Mac » 2020-04-24 18:54:53

I do have a test build of my client (see signature) for mac, which has a dedicated key for each action, including drop. Mac build is very lightly tested though. It's not configured like vanilla by default, so read up if you try it.

I just saw something interesting this morning.

The latest action a player does on a tile is stored and can be examined by other players

#172 Re: Main Forum » 33 Babies DURING A FAMINE?!?! » 2020-04-23 22:22:13

I watched a streamer lose all her life tokens. It was partly her fault - after a certain point she starting /die out of the two large famlies she had been cycling between, both of which were starving. She also noped out of two eve lines at least once, which probably weren't doing too much better. I'm pretty sure she went through at least half of them on pure famine and abandonment.

Tutorial players are effectively eves, so they don't have horribly degraded metabolism. I think the eat bonus might be in effect as well.

So not only do they eat berries, they get the impression that you can live off them tongue
