My two cents is.....Jason should implement by default zoom ... he might as well not let the 'normal' players fall behind just because most seasoned veterans mod up at this point.

An idea is having a decent zoom at 1.5X current vanilla zoom (dunno about you guys but 2x - things are way too small to click reliably) and a larger zoom that allows to see trees , structures and biomes only , it is not intangible we can identify a single tree a few hundred feet away - and can tell what biome is ahead. No small objects can be seen in large zoom
- to keep in the spirit of not being actually able to see whats inside a little bowl 30 meters away

Edit: double negatives suck , I need to stop them

It would be interesting if there was something special that could be done only in late game towns, like some kind of event or social gathering of some kind. Not really sure what, but something that a group of players could participate in. I don't like the murder fests really, but ironically some of the more interesting late game experiences I've had involve some kind of drama. It would be cool to have another way to facilitate this other than someone starting a string of murders.

Often there isn't much left to do and the town can support players that just hang around eating, so it would be interesting if they had additional ways to occupy themselves in late game other than building mostly useless toys that most people probably don't even know how to make.

I think some things can be done but ultimately still pretty limited, on top of my head I can think of

Arena - Now that magic aim is there i'm not sure this is even feasible. Two contenders go into the ring , that split in the middle with a stone wall(maybe a 6x8 size?) - Iron is there, and two kilns, with all the basic materials to craft a knife and a pick-axe (to break the wall with) from scratch laying around - first to stab the opponent wins - so i guess this more of a speed crafting competition
for humanity's sake - pad and sutures will be provided at the end of the game.... or not ... at least it was fun while it lasts

Horse racing - an enclosed track for horse-racing purposes - would be cool if one could bring rattle snakes to dot the racetrack to add some spice - but i guess making rattle snakes containable is grief prone

Theaters - for drama queens and RPers , two stone pillars, a stage of 1x5 wooden floors, fronted by property fences - can actually include murders but well staged up so as to not upset nearby people - pads optional - sorry I don't want to know what happens to the actors anyway xD

I think there's always a subset of people who will kill out of 'boredom' no matter how much content is added.

Adding content will not stop these kind of killings but at least it makes for more things to do for peeps who don't USUALLY kill. I think some otherwise normal players are getting goaded to join wars out of boredom now

Are people getting to kerosone pumps?

I think I've upgraded three charcoal pumps to kerosone pumps on low pop servers (one was in the CCM... I played with Tarr and someone else when I did the upgrade).  Two times the kerosone pump busted after it ran once.  The other time I didn't even manage to run the kerosone pump before it exhausted.

If families aren't getting to a kerosone pump on bs2, I have to think that's a stage that is missing.

I find the lack of the tech tree progressing boring also.  And I don't understand why something like wool clothes, clearly more advanced technologically than any other clothes, wouldn't clearly be the most insulating clothing in the game.  I mean, what is with the most high-tech clothing ending up as potentially, if not actually, worse than lower tech clothes?  And why aren't cars better than they are and clearly better than horsecarts?  I mean with a diesel engine, why couldn't we get a truck that could haul 32 flat rocks at a time instead of the abysmally low 4 flat rocks, making road building into the huge grind that it is?  And in what world did cars get invented and people still prefer smelly horses?  Why were radios basically just toys, and who wants a telegraph radio as a toy anyways?

That all said, the game's numbers declined throughout the tech tree updates also during the winter as well as recently, though the drop-off recently has seemed rather steep: https://steamcharts.com/app/595690#All

Agreed, I don't get the whole idea of keeping things challenging as we go up the tech tree. Life is meant to be easier with advancing tech. Clothes from wool and bolts of cloth IMO though, shouldn't be more insulating than rabbit fur because obviously fur is indeed more insulating. But on the flip side, they should be much easier to produce for the masses (textile revolution ahem) . I really don't even mind of cloth clothes can decay faster but they should be easy to craft en masses unlike rabbit fur where you have to painstakingly gather bunnies

I kept saying it and will at it again, roll out more tech that makes life easier, I think it's fallacious that life will get bland when life is too easy. Humans can make their own drama as we now see in diesel engine pumps with their stabathons

#184 Re: Main Forum » The crossing of cultures ... is not working » 2019-06-17 22:39:07

The days when you find another civilization is no longer one of joy of discovery but has turned into full blown fear at this point.

I don't think we should be by default be at war with everyone. I think war should be an option by declaration when enough elders support a war declaration (maybe a simple majority among players more than 30 years old)

So therefore , baseline is everyone can only kill each other with knife and bow as previously presword update and can also curse each other but there is option to 'escalate' to swords if negotiations fail

Voting interface would be game-y but would be fairer to all parties involved, for both aggressor and victim .
Just because a tribe is the attacker doesn't necessarily mean all their members enjoy a slaughter .

#185 Re: Main Forum » what war looks like in OHOL » 2019-06-17 01:35:17

This is an interesting video in that probably a good number of the war babies are actually decent minded players who don't normally participate in war. I guess a good speech can rile up common folk into a frenzy.

It is not something that has not happened in recent human history.

Fascinating, but I hope these things are once in a blue moon sort of deal, as it should be

I never used to feel this way, however, with the new update and the fact that only three or four families will be alive for a few days it seems now you grow attached to a certain family that you were the great granddaughter of the eve and then were reborn four or five times to later and really helped advance, so when that town is hit it hits you hard lol. I can't help but feel some type of way towards the other family. I wouldn't go as far to to grief them but I definitely would be an active solution to theirs towns problem.

Totally get you. Flawed human beings we are. What fun is there if everyone is absolutely perfectly rational and logical right?

To be honest, I would probably be the same. I will not participate in war against a family I lived a good life with either, probably will just say I'm a pacifist and refuse to join. At least, do no harm?

With the recent feud between Starks Vs pretty much everyone else (Ginger being a notable victim), something I wonder about player motives.

If say you were a Ginger and was raided by Starks (justly or otherwise) and then you were reborn as a Stark the next life, would you consider it justified to grief then? Based on what they did to you as a player last life? Or would you forget your last life and play the role as an actual Stark and go along with the campaigning and empire expansion???

I have played one life in each family, honestly both side were decent people who were generally helpful or at least won't get in your way -save for one guy who had an awfully short fuse and stabbed a woman who showed a small bit of sass.

There were quite a bit of hate speech against each family from another going on as I carried my simple farming life, but when I sat and think about, both sides seems like fair minded folks mostly. Neither deserve a sword to the throat but here we are. So now I decide, if I'm born either side, I'll have to play along as an actual game character and not be blind sided by my personal feelings on who was the aggressor

Sorry if this is confusing, I am not always very articulate. Guess I'm just seeing the issue where a baby can be born into a family with 'baggage' from the last life against the very family he/she is born into, and that's immersion-breaking.

Tomorrow all the eves should try to get game of throne names and we should all actively try to war out and see who wins lol It will be a fun free for all holiday kinda thing. It would be interesting to see what the different families strategys are. for example the starks only send their elder women and men to battle leaving fertile women in town to work and have bbys, while on the other hand the Lannisters send only young boys twelve and up out. However the wildlings send everyone man women child to war lol.

Or will they try to flank with swordies? Or go full barbarian and charge? Or make ambushes with archers????
Will some families employ medics effectively - sterile pads are now containable in carts right?

#195 Re: Main Forum » Bell tower murder » 2019-06-14 03:46:40

I want to know though, what's the sentiment by the Starks. It is hard to believe so many nasty people can congregate in the same family. Something must have triggered the xenophobia and warmongering tendencies.

Anyone here got the inside scoop of Stark family politics?

So if I'm ever ordered to slay a village I should pass the offer? Although wouldn't some people think that is griefing also?

My advice would be - if in doubt, don't do it.

If it feels wrong, don't do it.

If it feels right, do.

But if you do it, own it in the sense that you should make sure you'll be fine with consequences. Some may kill you as a baby or curse you if they find out. That too is part of the game, just as the ability to slay villages is part of the game.

And if the point of the game is to emulate the real world, then there is such a thing as war crimes in the real world.

Funny I was in a village today and this one guy kept following me with a sword telling me to put it in my backpack. I kept telling him no and that I wasn't interested. Then next thing I knew I get hit with a bow from him, and cursed by eight (8) people... because I didn't "support my village". They just wanted to raid because they wanted to claim another village for thier own.

Guess I griefed them...

Wait what? In my admittedly few 50 lives o have yet to run into a warmongering village . Guess you attract strife wherever you go *shrugs*

PS: Though, if enough people support a war effort in a village there might be a solid reasoning behind it. Sometimes , it's no so straightforward
