I ask this, because not one time has my feral eve mother managed to save me. Most of them abandon me, and some pick me up and run until they die of starvation. I would offer to help them, but it is difficult to relay messages as a baby.
I did have one eve nurse me until childhood and told me to run south to her supposed village to help her family out, but there was no village (just a massive Savannah biome)...I think she just didn't want to care for me anymore.
The only time I actually manage to survive is if I am born into a camp with multiple people, or if I spawn as a wild eve.
Have any of you actually managed to survive as a baby born to a wild eve mother?
Love this. Now the question is, is this the fist 1h1l fan fic, or did this actually happen in the game?

That is some devious shit.
It's kind of mad and brilliant. It's the first true shrine in the game, dedicated to the sacred milkweed. Like a museum of the holy fruit, never for plucking and only for worship and wonder.
At the rate some of the servers are going, it might be the only milkweed left.
On my last spawn as an eve, I had to run for what had to be about 10 in game years before I found a biome that hadn't been completely destroyed, even the milkweed there was scant. Fortunately my children knew the way, so hopefully they have managed it wisely and started growing it as well.
This would be a great thing for Jason to implement, as it stands if you are a newly spawned eve it takes forever to get to the stage where basic sewing is possible (this is partially due to the lack of milkweed, but also all of the hassles of raising children, finding food, building a fire etc.).
It makes sense, right now the bones are just sitting there taking up space, any sensible person in survival mode would consider using them.
Got to say that this server is a godsend, it finally gave me a chance to craft some items I don't normally focus on crafting without popping out kids every 30 seconds. ![]()
Found a deceased persons camp and was able to quickly build a fire and get get sewing.

If you want you can work to improve the quailty of the roads or build a quality road between places (one line farm is popular lately but has no quality roads)
Can't wait for Jason to add actual dirt roads. Or, imagine if enough people travelled on a certain patch of land, it would turn into a dirt road on its own (and would fade if it fell into disuse)?
That would be an awesome idea. It would also make finding other people much easier as a feral eve.
Thanks Norgg, this is exactly what I have been looking for.
Hopefully this will allow me to practice new farming.
Does anyone want to update the wiki with info on composting, I would...but I am still just learning the mechanics myself.
I have posted about this in other threads (so sorry for the double post), but I think that it would be a good idea to put a sandbox server together where we can work on developing new farming and crafting techniques(especially after the new update).
Forum members could join this server and work on developing new farming techniques and player roles in light of the new composting system, these techniques could then be migrated over to the main servers where they could be taught to other players. The key thing with this sandbox would be that the need for food would have to be eliminated or reduced, so that the primary focus could be on player development.
Thoughts? Anyone willing to set up a private server for this?
Once again, this is another reason why I would love for someone to setup a sandbox server with our food requirements nerfed (as in, we do not need much food to survive). We could work on developing new farming techniques there and then migrate these techniques out onto the main servers in due course.
Anyone willing to set this up.
I am sure if the forum members worked together to figure out the composting mechanics and new tribal roles, we could make this update fun and productive.
The biggest thing that parents need to start teaching their kids how to do is composting.
All the villages that I have spawned in have died of starvation, the composting certainly makes this game 5x more challenging.
I think for now, the best option is to find some clothes and then live a life of migration with maybe one other pop. Perhaps these migrating groups could plant gooseberry bushes as they travel so that other travelers in the future have food sources available (I'm not sure if this is possible with the new update, do seeds produce domestic or wild bushes?).
I like the idea of a sandbox server with hunger turned WAY down. I'll probably set one up tomorrow.
If you set one up, drop us the info.
I enjoy learning from the older generations quite a bit, and by trial and error.
With that being said, many civs assume that their newborns already know the ins and outs and are not too eager to lend a helping hand. This can lead to long term sustainability issues, because things like fire making take multiple steps, and if you do not know how to do it then you are basically SOL depending upon where you spawn. If you are lucky, somebody will teach you, but most of the time you will be left to either die or do menial labor like fetching water. Once the older gen is gone, you are then expected to maintain their way of life, and if you do not know basic skills then everyone's hard work is lost.
Perhaps the optimal solution would be a special sandbox server where you do not have to worry about hunger, and you can take time to learn how to craft. This server could be purged nightly so as not to become a major burden on the system or ruin the core values of the game.
Also an advice for starting Eve: Move. Find a spot with a real abundance of berries. You may actually stumble on a camp with a few items left. Raise one kid. Making a fire makes it easier (it keeps warmth) but is rarely achievable before the first pop.
This.
I'm not sure which server I keep spawning on, but it is pretty sparse. Most of my mothers have just left me for dead, or died of starvation themselves. My last feral eve mother camped out in an area with lots of bushes until I was a child, and then I helped her to set up a little starter civ. Hopefully it is still there and thriving, or at the very least, the ruins might help shelter another Eve.
This update is a huge game changer, and is going to cause people to have to rewrite the rules for their civs. I appreciate this change though, since in the real world you cannot work a plot of land for a long period of time without proper fertilization.
While new rules and play styles develop, the best short term strategy is going to have to be to keep a civ sparsely populated and manageable. Now more than ever, if you have dead weight at your camp, your likelihood of starving is also higher. People are quick to discard male babies in this game, but since this system is going to require more labor, having unencumbered males at your camp that can do the grunt work is going to become important.
