a list of tests u can do on ur baby to see how quickly it will die

the "F" test: if the first thing it says after u give birth to it is "F" it will die in approx 5 minutes. itll come up to u throughout its childhood until its too big and u tell it "ur too big" and it will fall to a pile of bones immediately

the chase test: if it chases after u after uve named it and placed it on a middle temp square it will die in approx 11 minutes

the temp test: if u put it down in a not so perfect spot and start working but it doesnt move to the perfect spot a square away from it it will die in approx 8 minutes

the running test: if it runs off as soon as it grows hair without taking at least 1 food from ur farm or a basket it will die in approx 4 minutes

a list of tests u can do on ur bby to see how long it will survive:

the "k" test: u tell ur bb where food is and it says "k". it will survive to at least 12

the silent test: ur silent n bbys silent. bb knows ma is busy. it will survive to at least 18

the "follow" test: u pick up ur basket n tell baby to follow. it follows and stops moving immediately after u stop moving instead of coming back to u. it will survive to at least 7

the "where" test: after its grown it asks "where rabbit?" "where water?" it will survive at least to 9 - but if it runs off before u can answer it will be a sponge

hope this helps decide on what bbs to abandon or keep the next time u run into a famine

edit: also i recc reading at least the dirt and wells guide before jumping in. the farming and smithing guide is important too but not as annoying to teach as dirt and wells. pein's temp guide is important too

You *HAVE* to be near water to survive.

The ideal camp spot is on the edge of a swamp with a shit load of ponds, a forest, and desert for bonus.  Any other nearby biomes (particularly those with lots of rabbits) are also awesome.

i only ever set up with at least 4-5 ponds nearby. and always with a desert as my base. i guess it is just luck after all hmm/ looks like my newest eve play got to 7 gens tho. thats a record

why???? is it the set up of my camps?? is it where the camps are??? i generally pick places just flooded with food.... i dont understand why i havent been able to make a single successful camp. is this all just luck? what do other ppl do to actually make their camps successful???

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=644016 <- this is my most recent eve camp. still got a daughter alive as i post this... but im 99% sure theyll all die by gen 4. why is that??

In my experience it's usually the second one.

yep. played as an eve a couple minutes ago and saw my grown daughter out in the savanna just staring into the distance while my youngest and i had set up a full farm and started making hammers and tools. thats a step up from dying i guess... but not that much higher

yeah i only ever use rabbits for bellows or backpacks. generally i like to send my sons off to get iron and such so backpacks are handy

noticed a lot of new players who eve set up farm before making bowls. heres a small checklist:

1. fire bow
2. stone hatchet
3. snare

send child to catch rabbit and

4. forge
5. get 8 clay -> 1 bellows nozzle, 4 bowls, 3 plates
6. tong
7. fire
8. fire up the clay shit

now child should have come back with rabbits or died

9. if returned -> bellows
10. farm
11. hammer

this entire checklist is for if u only have incompetent children who cant do anything to help u. generally eve should get to farming or smithing and kids should be doing the other thing. but i find that most of my kids are idiots and if i dont farm they just starve and die. set up at least 3 berries at camp so they can eat something

if u have competent children u should only have to do the hatchet and fire bow on ur own, but dont count on it

if u need expansion on the steps check my smithing and farming tutorial

i was born to a moderate, nameless village. apparently the eve had not named herself.

my ma raised me in the farm and i got to work as a girl, trying to farm with diverse crops so the soup makers and sheep raisers could rely on our resources. early on in my youth i tried making soup. lacy, my cousin, saw i had a lil trouble with getting the water out of the bean bowl and gave me a hand. she worked hard all the way to her elderly years, making enough soup for the whole town. i decided soup wasnt my calling and went back to providing the ingredients for soup

in my life i didnt have that many kids and the town was peaceful. so when my boy, beautiful, said he was new i decided to go all in and teach him all i could about farming. im afraid i neglected my other sons in my effort to teach him, but i hope they knew i loved them all equally. i taught beautiful how to plant squash, beans, carrots, corn. i told him of the importance of providing soup ingredients, and when a kind lad finally caught us a sheep i told him of the importance of growing wheat and carrots

on the farm my mother, lucky, died. i named my last son after her and she gave me the knife to protect the town. but i wouldnt need to. it was so small. i buried her and lacy near a tranquil bear cave to the south, so they would be protected beyond the grave

the only real threat to our town was the fact we had no girls left. my last child was a girl, one i named allisson. but she died in my arms as i instructed my son how to farm. regardless, our town kept hope that a girl would come in from the brush to save us

in my twilight years i taught my son to bury the dead. to honor them with headstones and sacrifices. he told me he would bury me. i wish i showed him where i buried mom and lacy

time passed quickly and i knew the end was close. but beautiful came to me one day and asked me how to cook. i remembered lacy and decided the tradition of soup must go on

i taught him to cut the squash and wash the beans but i was decaying as i stood. the four hunger bars glared at me as i tried to finish the soup on time. i snatched the corn sliced it up in the bowl, pouring it and water in the pot with just enough time to say, "soup. for son"

theres a lot of sound cues in this game that ppl use to alert them of danger or other events - like a baby's cry can be heard a while away and murder screams and snakes. but ppl who are deaf/hard of hearing/ cant or dont want to play with sound on dont have access to these cues. a visual cue that can signal that something was heard off-screen (or even on-screen) would be useful to implement sometime

oAYgKga.png
^something like this. maybe the colours are different based on if its a good or bad sound (red for dangers like snakes, orange for murders, and green for baby cries)

depends on what ur low on - if u have a lot of hoes or skewers then go ahead and till up one dirt if ur dirt is low. but if uve got plenty of dirt then hoe up the two dirt and save on that hoe (cos its always a pain to make a new one)

everything was going so well but in the 18 minutes after my death everything seems to have gone to shit. was it the snake? why did my daughter starve? we planted so much corn and potatoes and berries! why on earth would u starve?? and there was so much foraging! we had so many ponds and such...

new player here. Can anyone give a hint to that ratio of people/berries? Personally, I don't know is it 1 new berry every 1 minutes per bush? and then what's the number of berries eaten in that same timeframe? With that we could probably come up with something like 1.5 berry bushes per person in town.... but I don't know the actual math.

heres some (probably wrong- hey im a history major) math:

once planted and watered a gooseberry bush takes 2 minutes to sprout, then another 2 minutes to become a full bush. then it takes another 8 minutes to bear fruit. so thats 12 minutes it takes from planting and watering to fruiting.

from there, every time u water a dry gooseberry bush it takes 8 minutes to fruit with all berries - its not 1 at a time like a wild bush

and then it takes another 2 minutes for an empty (all picked) gooseberry bush to dry out - which then it can be dirted and watered again

but for a wild gooseberry bush it takes 10 minutes to get a fruits again (not sure of the steps in between- from experience i think its 1 berry every 10 minutes but the onetech sites says its a full bush https://onetech.info/279-Empty-Wild-Gooseberry-Bush i cant really remember good)

and im 100% sure someone has done the math on a big ass post but heres my general rule of thumb - 3 bushes per person. just as a general ratio, but it depends on how much foraging food is around and such. but the thing is that berries are NOT the best food to rely on. its consumes a lot of resources and stew is a LOT better. i just tend to make a berry farm around 10-15 bushes when starting out to give the new players something to do and as a backup for famines

Every time I came back to drop off the rabbits, the berries needed soil. There were baskets around for soil. I made sure of that...

yeah! looks like both of us got lucky with at least one kid that continued the line. and thanks ma, hope to meet u again!

This town honestly probably had trouble because the berry farm wasn't big enough. I expanded it a bit when I was a child, but it didn't look like anyone else did after I moved on to hunting rabbits. I just wanted to get that forge ready.

yeah the thing is it was too small but the population kept booming and ppl kept staying and starving instead of foraging or farming. i had to gather iron and farm at the same time hmm

i had many cousins and nieces and aunties and grandmas. a camp ripe for starvation. and as soon as i turned 4 it hit. i took a basket and ran out of town, knowing at least half would be wiped by the time i returned. and they were. so i abandoned child after child till the population dwindled to five. and finally i had a little baby boy i knew we could afford to keep.

seeing the bushes were empty i picked him up and told him "famine. im taking u to food"

but the child leaped out of my arms as soon as we left the comforts of the farm and dashed back to the fire, where he'd seen my cousin nursing her child.

i returned to him, furious, "i said there is a famine. i was going to take u to food. but u return to a dying village instead"

seeing his error he tried to chase after me but i left the town without my boy. on the way out i gave birth to a little girl i named lucky. i told her about her brother's foolishness and in the wilds, surrounded by berries, i had another girl. i intended to abandon her, knowing there wouldn't be enough berries for her, but she looked at me desperately, pleading "p" "l" "s" so i kept her

when we returned to the town i found the corpse of my son and my cousin and her child. skeletons littered the small camp. i warned the girls, "these bodies are what happens when you stay in town in a famine. remember to go left"

and as i aged another one hit, this one caused by the rapid eating of my aging cousins. they shoveled berries in their mouths and i knew there would be another

i turned to my youngest, yelling "theres no food! go left!!!!!"

and yet she hesitated, i screamed at her as i stood dying in the fields,"go!!!!!"

and she ran.

perhaps they will live. but most likely they will starve again in another famine

just know this, if there is only one bush left with berries and there is more than one person in the village you are seconds from famine. grab a berry and head to food. and never, EVER, return back to a starving town without food on hand. and if mommy says "im taking you to food" you dont leap out of her arms back into a starving town
