I guess you don't want to answer the question posed at the top of this post.

I had to remind myself that there even was a question about the game, because it seemed such a non sequitur to bring up marriage and same sex partners. I thought this must be a bait and switch just to pass judgement on irl people.

Spoonwood wrote:

Do you really think that people in 50 years will look back and value every marriage equally?  That someone who is say the 3rd or 5th child of married parents will value some association between two people of the same sex, as the marriage between his or her parents?

See, this is about irl people. Real people and real lives are much more complicated than OHOL. And there's just no comparison.

You're case isn't made stronger by bringing irl comparisons into it. It's just distracting at best and inflaming at worst.

It seems like all you are saying is staying in band to have kids is more valuable than leaving band and not having kids. That seems like a no brainer. Especially since you already made concessions for going out of band to do specific out of band work.

Are you really trying to use game mechanics to support a value judgement on real people?

Why?

This makes sense to me.

I also thought you were running an OHOL server. You said "one hour one life experience." And something about compiling.

#8 Re: Main Forum » Do Bears Go Back In Caves? » 2024-12-14 05:24:35

Well, practically - no. But technically...

A bear can go back within two seconds of one leaving. I think it might be like that for if there is nowhere for the bear to go.

Here, look at this page for the Bear Cave empty just left. You'll see after two seconds it transitions to the empty bear cave. But if a bear lands on it before that, it goes back to the default cave.

Of course this is nearly impossible. It just wouldn't happen naturally. I mention it to sort of explain how to read the onetech.

Thanks. I was hoping I could modify whatever  to build ahap too. I’ll keep digging.

The pinned “build your own server” points to an outdated script. I browsed through the source files and found too many things that look like versions of building something.

Could someone point me to the best one?

#11 Re: Main Forum » How do you make sure someone is curse-worthy » 2024-07-01 21:40:02

Typically, griefers don’t spare the mouflon. Typically, friendly people leave some sheep. These are only the simplest of clues. Better is to go to the accused and ask them about it. It could be a misunderstanding. They could be getting framed.

And because they could be getting framed, it’s a good idea to get more info from the accuser. Pay attention if the two stories don’t line up. If you can catch either one lying, then you’ve cracked the case.

Just remember you could be talking to someone who isn’t good at communicating.

And of course, the complications can overwhelm the situation. You may be dealing with someone who’s just a jerk and not a griefer. Example:
Q. "Hey, why did you kill all the sheep? We need some for making clothes."
A. "Mind your own business. I play like I want!"

It’s tough. Good luck out there.

Ah, the leaderboard isn’t delayed. (Edit: and presuming the play right after their last leaderboard life, lived to 60, and haven’t /died to another fam.) Would delaying the leaderboard solve it?

What are the “various holes in the curse system”?

And how many people are they targeting?

How are their harassing actions, specifically?

The leaderboard tag, in combination with family information, allows a person to track where other players are. By combining the curse AND leaderboard tags, a player can track down a cursed player directly to their current life (where they will see the curse name above their head).

I thought public logs were delayed a day. How do you find someone in game?

#14 Re: Main Forum » Best Town Layout » 2024-04-24 17:43:11

Ok, what about is important? I imagine “this next to that” relationships. But what about size, alignment, orientation, distance?

A simple improvement I can recommend is to plant trees on a diagonal. This lets you walk between them (and between the stacks of branches).

I thought it was going to be democratic? I don’t know how we’ll keep the voting legitimate, but the idea is voting.

#17 Re: Main Forum » Setting up your personal Linux test editor/server/client » 2024-01-26 13:02:16

I’m 90% sure this fixes it for me. Thanks, a ton.

I saw your other post, found the pull request, and put the line into my local script. It seems all my public server issues are gone. I couldn’t test a local server because of some compiler error about some AHAP variable. Undoubtedly because I’m pulling updates that aren’t fully ready. Either I’ll take the time to figure out how to git pull a timestamp or something, or I’ll just wait for the full update.

Again, thanks for the help.

Dito

It started happening for me with the “Power Edit” update on 2024-01-14 (I think).

Map generation mixes snow biome right by dessert biome. I can’t see the lay lines, can’t do emotes, and no eaten craving sound.

#19 Re: Main Forum » Why Am I Banned (TRILOGY) » 2024-01-01 20:25:49

What are you trying to get? I’ve seen you go through this cycle before. They say why, then you say they are lying. I’m not sure, but I think you say their motivation is that they don’t like that you are a griefer in game. Is that right? So I ask again, what are you trying to get?

#20 Re: News » Update: Steam Workshop Mod Contest » 2023-12-28 23:36:22

What if I don’t use the Steam client?

#21 Re: News » Update: Steam Workshop Mod Contest » 2023-12-28 22:52:39

How do I download these mods to try out? I can’t seem to find any .oxz files on Steam.

Lets say you pick up tongs, and a hammer. How does the game know what your trying to do? Both items can be used on a hot piece of iron, so there is no hierarchy on which item will be used. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, that makes sense, no fail safe to default to. How about the swap mouse button picks up/down and the action mouse button hammers?

Laggy wrote:

I’m not saying it’s overpowered. I’m saying it would be easily exploited. Roads and posse are not easily exploited.

…but seeing game limitation…

What are you thinking of that would make it impossible?

Here’s an example: You pick up a knife then you pick up a bowl. If you try to do an action to a cooked turkey the only valid thing is slice the turkey. If you click a water bucket the only valid thing is get a bowl of water. Even if there where two actions possible, I don’t see why the couldn’t just be a hierarchy. Like feed the sheep would come before slaughter the sheep.

Laggy wrote:

What if the apron made you move faster within 10 tiles of a forge or something?

I imagine a forge in every room. smile

I like the proximity thing though. That could help nerf a power that’s too good. But speed is a power that’s too general.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Business Attire! » 2023-12-16 01:20:13

If you mean what does the player do, I figured you’d just pick up one then pick up the other. I could be missing something with the clicks because I use wondible’s client that has keyboard bindings.

In all seriousness, that already exists in-game, so I’m allowed to not add that to the master list.
