Also, do you check live-dev-changes on the discord Morti?
Discord became popular when I'd abandoned all widespread forms of social media besides Youtube, partly because I lost passwords saved on hard drives that failed, and, partly because I needed a long break from trying to save the world via data. Nothing felt worse 10 years ago than sitting on my ass talking about problems while not actively being in a protest, riot or, what I still thing is near-inevitably a revolution, perhaps, a revolution for the whole world at once, the first of it's kind, in all of human history. That was the combination of Occupy and Arab Spring and all the protests in China and India I'd been following at the time.
I think the biggest problem with this planet right now, and, over the lat 500 years or so, at least, has been the stock we put in money, and the amount of money we put in the hands of so few individuals of our species. If money is to retain it's utility to our species, then it's due a redistribution into the hands, and minds, that really matter to us the most; those who work themselves to the point of suffering, to that their families, villages and all, all people of the world, my benefit down the road from their labors.
But if it's going to be like that, it can't just be in the United States, or in English speaking countries, it needs to be global, otherwise money will just be moved, and power, will just be retained in records and enforced by armies who, like those men I spent time with in incarceration, feel it is their fate to serve until their end, or the surrender of the opposition.
I'm not ready to be on discord, or facebook, or twitter, or any of that.
If I used a service like one of those, it might be all I do.
I'm not smart enough to even manage my life when it comes to just one game, just, having Youtube or occasionally Twitch there to suffice for the television set I was trained to stare at as a little human.
I glean what I can, of what goes on elsewhere, regarding the game, via messengers like you, Spoon.
You, and everyone else, you're like my Mercuries - my Hermes'.
(How would one pluralize Mercury? Mercury's'?)
You get the picture.
And I get the pictures, via you.
If it's important, enough, anywhere else, it'll find it's way to me, via the game, via, other means.
I love you all.
I have a few more things to get in place before I can relax, and play and stream and all that.
I really should talk to people and get a job, to the judge looks a little more, favorably, on me, at our next encounter.
I'm thinking of applying at a few sawmills, since, cutting trees and working petroleum consuming machines, is about as normal as life gets in Northeast Michigan.
I met a few guys in jail that said they'd help me get work pulling in docks for the winter or cutting up firewood too... but, I need to track them down and get in touch with them.
I don't know what the fuck I'm doing today, but it shouldn't be typing this message or playing One Life, not just yet.
See you all soon enough.
I went through a phase a while back where I was building roads a lot. I find it strangely soothing.
I know you've been doing it awhile now, but let me just say "Welcome to the club." ![]()
These guys knew what was up.
I feel like half the post on this forum are yours by now.![]()
<3
I love ya, brother.
Keep it up.
Love you all.
I still have lots of reading to do.
4:37 AM now and I've been awake for nearly 48 hours, yet I still am not tired.
I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts on the forums; just gettin' caught up with everyone's state's of mind on the game, and each other.
Also nice to see a couple new names on the forum, as well as Rosie, on page one of the Top Playtime Reviews
Whoever you are, Rosie, glad to see you enjoying the game so much you made it to the front page.
<3
I'll keep reading, until I either pass out, or, get the nerve to fire up OBS, Twitch & the game, but I'll probably save that for after a nice rest not on a metal sheet and a two inch thick plastic mat.
Still feels great to be home!
I've been awake now for nearly 45 hours, was released from jail at 5am this morning and I spent the whole day yesterday looking forward to getting out today. Spent today running a lot of errands for home and the court system, as well as catching up on Youtube channels and buying books for all the inmates I spent time with, who are still locked up... the library cart in the jail was seriously lacking content. So, what do I have to look forward to when I play? What's new?
I've been reading a few posts about Twisted layer suggestion, is that implemented? I didn't see many new things on onetech, so I assume the changes over the last few weeks have been mechanical...
The first day I was in jail, Oct. 6th, I was in a holding cell the size of a closet and all I did was talk about One Hour One Life as if I was streaming to an audience of people who had never played before. I even talked to them in my sleep while I built camps in my dreams as though I was streaming on Twitch. The craziest thing, one of the girls two holding cells down, I swear her name was Terra. It made me cry, telling her how I name my daughters Venus, Terra and Luna and how much I love everyone that plays as though they were my real children.
I told almost 20 grown men, most who were in there for things like dealing methamphetamine, domestic assault charges and even attempted homicide, that I loved playing this game because it satisfies my urge to be a father, even though I play as a child or a mother. That it gives me a chance to tell people I love them, even though I don't ever know who any of you usually are.
Most of them understood, a few of them found it fucked up. But the ones that were most frustrated by my explanation of my activities, I reasoned with them - I made them understand. A lot of them were kids in there twenties just waiting to go to prison for habitual drug and violence charges - yet I made them understand. Some of them were men in their thirties and forties with many kids of their own, some of them in their forties even have grand kids already. And here I am, 42 and back at my PC ready to pick up where I left of - being your children and your mothers...
My life is an odd one. Odd to my fellow gamers, odd to those men I spent time in jail with, even odd to myself.
I've done bad things for what I considered good reasons at the time. Things I don't consider good or bad now - just things.
I can't judge myself.
But I don't think I'm wasting my time - with you, in this community, or, with those men who I've been fortunate enough to meet in jail.
I think, like me, they just needed someone to care - to care enough, to tell them. And though I didn't explicitly tell each one of them I loved them the way I love all of you, I shared my experience with this community; my experience, with them and I saw in most of them, a desire, for the same thing you have afforded me.
If our cells wouldn't have been so crowded, if things had been different, if, if I had had more time - to open up to them, and to give them time to open up to me, I may have been able to change their lives even more. But it was very difficult being in there, especially with the younger kids who were looking forward to being transferred to prison... as if it were a promotion, into what they had already accepted was going to be the rest of their lives.
Fuck, life is hard. It can be, really hard, if you don't get the right start, and the right support, along the way.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm not a better person.
I wish more of us felt like we belonged, somewhere,
I wish more of those men in that jail, didn't have prisons, gangs, or criminals, to call their homes or the families, or the nearest things to them.
But I won't lie - they provided a positive experience for me, and I think I - them. Which, last time I checked, was not supposed to be the point of jail, which, kind of disturbs me and, reassures me, at the same time, that, we, as inmates, are getting better, but that the system, of incarceration and the courts and law enforcement... that they are going to continue to grow, and take advantage of us - even, I don't know. I don't know. But I do know there is a reason people refer to it as a machine. It really does feel, almost as if it's a mechanical process. That everything, from, the violence, to the court, to the jail, to the street - that each of them is a cog. The educational part - the violence, we grow up with, unsupervised as many of us, is a slow moving cog. Then we get passed to the police and the court, which move fast, then jail and prison is slow, then they're back out on the streets, and it gets fast again, until they are picked up, once again, by the cops, spit right into incarceration and they just wait again, to get spit through minutes of court again.
It's so obviously not working.
The effort, is in the wrong places.
The money, is certainly in the wrong hands.
I'm sure many people must, intrinsically, know this by now, if I can pick up on this with, a dozen or so misdemeanors over the course of 30 years.
Maybe good people just need... just need to get inside, and get to those people themselves, if cops, judges, lawyers and corrections officers, just don't -
I can't say that. I have no, NO, fucking clue how much any, not ONE, of any of those people, really, really cares about. I'm not going to pretend they are in law for the power trip or the money or the defense of the state or anything.
I bet a lot of them, really, really do care about those men and women who are incarcerated, and destined to be, incarcerated, or worse, killed for their choice of lifestyle.
--
I recognize that there is still too much I don't know, to even suggest, corrections for the things I do.
But as a human being - I still think love, understanding, education and compassion - real human relationships with one another; from the people in good places, to the people in bad places; it's not happening as much as it could be, if our goal is to get this world; this whole, human, social experience, between everyone, sorted out. Sorted so that there aren't great factions of people, who are finding themselves at such a disadvantage, they they need to see years in prison, stab wounds, or bullet wounds - as badges of honor.
--
Sorry for not talking about the game.
It's going to take a little while to adjust to being, here, at my PC again.
I know most of you are caring individuals, or, you probably wouldn't be here, and I'm sorry for taking advantage of that.
It's just nice to be home.
Funny you should bring this up, I just spent five weeks in jail.
Maybe I'll weigh in on my thoughts on the U.S. correctional system in the future, but, for now, I'm very happy to be back home until my next court date on November 24th when I will almost certainly be put back in jail because they need more people in there to justify the new, larger, one they are opening next year.
It's a county jail, not prison, but from what those who spent time in prison have told me over the last five weeks, jail is even worse than prison, as there is far less for the inmates to actually do to better themselves or pass the time.
I still love you all and I'm sorry I haven't been a better member of the community over the years.
Found something special, in the swamp.
Is better possible?

Jason's determination on having trade be part of this game.
I'm not talking about Jason, I'm not addressing Jason, you brought up trade in this forum post. I want to address you.
The whole fatherhood aspect of things has been discussed countless times...between the forums, discord, and in-game. It's simply not feasible for the style of game OHOL is, and Jason has already made it pretty clear in the past its not gonna happen. Don't get me wrong, I share your sentiment, but its just not gonna work for this game.
This is what upsets me the most, you saying things like "It's just not going to work in this game."
As for not having babies in other cities, this was something Jason added not that long ago, the homelands update. The point was, before this, almost EVERYONE would clump up in one big megacity, resources became widely available, and honestly the game got too easy. There was no way to try and implement trade when everything was already shared by everyone in one place. Again, this isn't to say that trade is well implemented in the game as it stands (which it certainly isn't, and Jason has a lot of work ahead if he's to make it work), but that was the intent behind the update.
I really wish you, and many others, would take your own personal responsibility for what gets added to the game and stop blaming Jason for changes you and others don't like.
Including myself.
Jason is making this game for us, based on us and how we engage with him. We are just as responsible at this stage for what is in the game, if not more so, than he is. He is reacting to many of us, we are just reacting to one of him.
Be responsible for the part of us you are.

Why do we need trade in this scenario?
If we can do without men being necessary for reproduction, why couldn't we do without other aspects of our past being necessary?
Do we need to implement slavery as well?

the only thing I do is work (programmer)
What sorts of programming work do you do, if you don't mind my asking?
Do you have a portfolio; a webpage you use to show off the history of your works?
I tend to find most programmers, coders & game designers have something like that, otherwise they work so much, and are so inspiring, their fans make that sort of thing for them.
This will take you to that life, if you haven't already watched it.
There was a time, when this is what the forums were used for. The first page of the main forum, was so alive. 2, 3, threads, were going, just on recommendations, suggestions and requests that new things be added to the game.
You are free, to search the forum and resurrect any of those threads, any of those posts, regarding ... anything you like.
I'd love to see some of those old names, and read their comments again, regarding things like cotton, flint and steel, hemp, grills or even cast iron stoves.
Remind me of what made this place great 2 years ago.
Don't let your ambition die.
Sure! I have the bad behavior of putting a YouTube video on my monitor while chat with friends on my cellphone before sleeping, I love watching Twisted, and his videos fit perfectly in my pre sleepimg time when they were 1 hour long and I'm sure I'll like your vids as well. It might take two nights to watch the full 2 hours, but I'll certainly do it.
This is not the kind of "view" that I meant in the title.
Or at least, not the one of the two in the, double entendre, that I was leaning towards.
What I want is your point of view on the matters that occurs in that life and that life in particular.
If you only have one hour a day to spare, perhaps watching, or even playing, video games, is not what you should be spending it doing. Then again, you would know, as I am sure you spend the other 23 wisely. At least, more wisely than I.
2+2=1, makes perfect sense.
Combining two broken tools should give kindling and scrap metal, either;
Broken Steel Tool + Broken Steel Tool = Pile of Scrap Wood and Steel, then, reaching into it, you pull out Kindling Pile (the wooden handles) until a Scrap Steel Pile remains equal to the number of tools you threw in.
Maybe too complicated, visually? Either it could be it's own pile, or;
Broken Steel Tool + Broken Steel Tool = Kindling + Clump of Scrap Steel?
Reach into the Kindling + Clump of Scrap Steel and you pull out either Kindling or Clump of Scrap Steel, leaving the other behind?

A more practical epiphany; take out two shovels when digging up big hard rocks for cut stone or blocks, then combine the two broken tools together for a piece of scrap metal that you CAN put in your backpack.
2+2=1, makes perfect sense.
For the last few weeks, I have been streaming my playthroughs of the game, on Twitch.
Yesterday, I had, a life, that I would like you all to witness.
In it, you will see me at my worst, and, if you can stomach the medicine, one of the better lives, I have lived, thusfar.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/729357246?t=01h02m00s
The life takes place in the second hour of the video.
If you don't have an hour, the first half hour of the life is pretty critical if you are to understand the, unspoken epiphany that occurs at One Hour And Thirty Two Minutes.

Times; 1:02:12 - 2:02:41
Please forgive me for the first half hour of that life.
Please try to, imagine, what was going through my head, in the last half hour.
If you only ever watch one life of my, right now, I would say make it this one.
Thank you.

Please, help me find peace.
It’s kinda telling that the most popular recent thread on the official Ohol forums has absolutely nothing to do with Ohol.
Just everyone trying to help the least educated person on the subject.
We're good people, ya know?
We care about each other and our home.
That's what OHOL is; a community looking after a home, which supports all of it's members.
Even the ones that shovel shit from place to place.![]()
I wish I knew enough to help you sort this out, have you tried contacting Jason via his castledoctrine email address? He's always been pretty good about responding to any technical problems I've had over the years involving getting the game to work. Address is "jasonrohrer" and then "@castledoctrine.net" or "@fastmail.fm" not sure which one he uses most often, but he probably keeps track of both.
I like this idea. Please don't let anyone discourage you from doing this in every town until it's a common, recreated site.
I am somewhat addicted to wolf hats, sealskin coats and snakeskin boots. I'd never even considered farming wolves before for the skin, I'd just always accepted them as an ever dwindling resource. Good on you for, not just figuring this out, but sharing your thoughts and plans via a pictured post. I enjoy everything about this, bar the naysayers.
4 AM EST Today (It's now 5:17 PM, as I type) was 1598947200 Unix Time.
Going to https://onemap.wondible.com/ right now, will bring you to the town, known as Whiterun. The third bell there was the last one completed at the last time the site ran an update checking for such a thing. This is where onemap's view defaults to upon loading, the last bell monument completed on the server.
The url for that third bell looks like this https://onemap.wondible.com/#x=-58264&y … 1598958286
I don't quite yet know what z and s are equal to, but I do know what x, y and t represent.
x = the x coordinate of the world
y = the y coordinate of the world
t = the Unix time of the server.
To convert your local time to Unix time, you can use a site like https://www.epochconverter.com/
Bear in mind that onemap is updated, on average, once a day, overall, but different types of data are updated at different times, so, you won't necessarily be able to check changes within the last hour. The site pulls from Jason's public data server for One Hour One Life: http://publicdata.onehouronelife.com/ The dates you see on that page are the dates those folders were created.
Going to http://publicdata.onehouronelife.com/pu … elife.com/ for instance, will display a list of folders, dates and sizes. It's a lot of information, and onemap uses it to figure out and display what has changed over time.
The publicdata site is interesting to know about, but seeing the data displayed with onemap is a big help when it comes to tracking changes to and locations on the world.
As for commentary on the spread of our families, now, nearly 12 hours ago, it's big. I'm not sure what to think about living this way, so far removed from each other. It's a lot like playing 4 separate games, while people that know this sort of information, about the spread and locations of the other families, do the work of bringing resources from town to town, that each family cannot get on their own. Can't say I'm too happy that we leave new players out of the whole game doing this sort of thing. Clearly there is already a sort of community hierarchy that has emerged, and leaving new players out of it, forcing them to jump through hoops to make race specific contributions to each town... it just doesn't feel like we are welcoming them to this environment.
I know some people, who have played the game longer, like feeling in more control over newer players; newer town's futures, but, I have to wonder how this feels from a new players perspective, compared to, say, the way the game felt attractive to those of us that have played for a year, two years, or even three years.
When I started two and a half years ago, there was an allure to the game; that anyone just starting out could work hard and make great contributions to their town and keep their family alive and thriving through hard work. It doesn't quite feel like that anymore, at least, I imagine new players don't come to that same conclusion, and as such I suspect few of them feel useful, or feel there is room to advance in the game, as those players who are performing jobs like gathering resources for rubber or making oil and using engines, are excluded from exploring those aspects of the game when there are already people doing those tasks, that are so busy and far removed from the duties of passing on the knowledge to perform these tasks and the willingness to invite them to do so.
This is an issue we must resolve if we want to exist in a game with a greater diversity of players; a greater number and a more interesting, less stagnant, cast of players.
Let us consider this game in much the same way we consider our most cherished towns and families. Do we want the streets of our homes to be so empty they serve a counterproductive purpose of leading to the despair of new players who find themselves in them? Do we want our numbers so thin, and scattered, that player interaction are rarer via the overwhelming numbers of items strewn about across the regions of the map we call our homes? What uses are thousands of items of clothing, spread across 4 towns occupied by a few dozen players? These items we produce, they lose their value the fewer people there are to share them with, and as such, the players that make them, feel even less valuable to the community of players they are engaging with.
How can we imagine addressing the potential for this feeling of stagnation which may overtake the player and lead them to find games where they feel their time is of greater value to other communities? Do you feel this desire, as I do, to want more players in this game? To want to experience this opportunity, with more human beings? To share our knowledge and works, with an ever growing cast? Or do you feel there is some ideal number for this sort of experience and that we should be happy with less?
I know many of the people who have shared these concerns are no longer visiting members of this community, or at least, no longer actively participating routinely in it's promotion. Meanwhile some of you still around, see yourselves as community leaders, yet you strike me as detached and unconcerned with the future of this game; what it is here that is unique, that we have cultivated all this time. Forgive me for not sharing your apathetic attitude. I do not plan, to give up, or move on anytime soon.
I can no more give up on this game than I can my desire to make the world a better place, to find comfort or to be in love with the idea of life's very existence, on this world, in this universe. This can't just be in my imagination. I need help. I need help holding the ropes of this hot air balloon that is my love of this game. It's ready to take off but the flame keeps burning and I can't stop it. I can't tie these lines down fast enough. I need more people to grab the ropes. We're not ready to lift off yet. The balloon, it doesn't stop growing either. The fuel isn't running out. I just want you to help me hold it down. It's not ready yet. We're not ready yet.
We just need more time.
I just need more time.
Hi,
Thank you, all.
I love you.
