Yeah, cool change.
Also fence gates (real ones, not property) now auto-open/close and always block animals from passing through. We can have nice animal pens now.
I remember how much griefing we had at some point when curses were totally broken and useless. And I remember how little of griefing we had, with old killing system and working curses again. Could play for days without seeing a single griefer. It was enough to pull your knife out of backpack to stop a griefer... They just didn't want to die.
If cursing was reworked that we could curse only our family memebers and families in peace, even property fences would make so much sense then. Peaces/wars, protecting stuff from other families, healers, healing... That could be damn fun.
Protecting from griefers inside of family should never happer. Griefing our family should never happen, it makes this game so much worse.
Good changes.
Lately I felt so powerless against griefers, I tried to form a posse a few times but in most cases people are deaf unless they see with their own eyes how someone is griefing.
I don't even try anymore. I just stealth curse a griefer (to avoid being cursed back) and just ignore them.
What I would suggest is instead of making people in a posse faster, I think it would be better to just slow down the potential victim. It may have a few benefits. More people could see the person before they run away, perhaps it would give more time to make big enough posse, and also if griefer is a thief, it would be harder for them to steal things.
I think this would make more sense than having super fast people in a posse. A terrified victim irl could be making mistakes that's why they run slower.
Something like 25% of players were the victim of murder each day before.... that was pretty high, and getting murdered was a core part of the experience for a lot of people, especially new players.
And very few people were saved by healing.
These statistics feel weird to me... Back then I used to play a lot and I was murdered so rarery. I know some people asked to be killed when they were old age, just for fun. I know we often had not enough healing pads, but it was our fault if we didn't have them. People also struggled to heal arrow wounds, in most cases shooting someone with a bow meant certain kill.
I'm not sure if new players had negative feelings about the game only because they were randomly killed... I haven't had for sure. Do more people stay with the game only because they see less killing?
It was realistic and a cool system IMO, we had all the tools needed to deal with all problems and griefers... I mean, people weren't complaining about it (as far as I know) so I guess it wasn't an issue that should be changed. If healing was buffed a little it could make things only better.
But I can deal with it it's gone now. Hopefully all issues will with the current system will be fixed at some point.
Posse system makes it that community decides if someone should be killed.
But in the old killing system community decided as well if the stabbed person should be healed or not. We healed good people and didn't heal griefers.
The old system wasn't that bad. Griefers were winning only when we had no healers. Yeah, in current times it would be harder to keep up with making enough healing pads, we just don't make that many sheep as we did before food changes. But if pads were buffed, I mean we could craft let's say 3 or even 6 pads from a single ball of thread, it would work well. And we would have no unnecessary magic in the game.
I checked 2hol yesterday, and the simplicity there is really lovely, it's just enjoyable to play even tho 2hol is boring, mainly because of lack of players I guess.
I loved no grid system... Tho I don't play vanilla so maybe vanilla users actually prefer to have everything (wells, veins, waystones, tarry spots) in a grid, idk. Dry natural springs also suck
I wouldn't mind having natural springs in random positions and just use them whenever needed, I wouldn't mind having more water than we currently have - good thing was that even noobs could get water thought making another well nearby, it was fun to teach newbies how to make a well and get water for the family, I think they loved it even more.
I thought I'm fine with tool slots here on OHOL but it's really lovely not having them and just feel free. I'm not saying they are super bad, they just create a negative feeling. Yeah, it's cool they slow down veterans, they could do too much before, but I still think this game would be much better without them - I mean the feeling of freedom is so lovely in 2hol. Things like tool slots kinda make overall feeling about the game worse.
And ofc biome restrictions... The worst thing that ever happened to this game.
Damn, posse system should be mentioned here too, since it's not a simple thing. I don't like it at all.
I think this game could easily be fixed in one week of development, and be a great game... Greater than ever before ![]()
Do we need some added benefit to Fences to encourage people to maintain properties long term.
Better question would be: do properties are really interesting? Do people want to have their own properties instead of sharing everything with their family?
I don't think they are interesting, otherwise we would see them more often. I'm not into having a property at all.
I don't like the fatherhood idea. What now?
Why is there a "problem" word in the title when it's not a problem?
Try using property fences.
If it wasn't cold, we wouldn't need clothes, which would be boring I guess.
I don't like to play as an Eve too, but not because I care about my score, but because of biome restrictions that make me feel that all my effort will be gone in a few generations. And because of how many babies get born in fresh towns (again, not because of gene score, but because it's just annoying to have so many in super fresh town, they just eat everything and most of them do nothing, hard to tell so many people what to do)
My gene score is usually 40+ with 7 slots, I never check what place I am because I don't really care about it.
Last 2 days I was born as an Eve 2 times, but I just decided to suicide and turn off the game for a while so I wouldn't be born as an Eve again.
Probably after the server reset (Thursday) Eve spawn position was restarted too, but map wasn't wiped. Therefore Eves spawn in old occupied locations with all wild food eaten in these areas.
"Eves are placed in a zigzag pattern spreading out to the west, which looks like this:"
I think someone should report this issue in github, maybe Eve spawn location shouldn't be restarted together with the server.
Hover your cursor over the temperature meter, it will show how long it takes to drain a pip.
Next life I'm a young kid walking around looking for a project, and I find... turkey. So, so, so many turkeys. Someone had taken a horse cart and spent a lot of time hunting.
It was me ![]()
Did pretty much this life, when I was born we had no water, but many buckets and a horse. Filled all cisterns with water from ponds, got all these turkeys, lots of wild wheat, lots of kindling and made about 10 hoes. Hopefully Jason won't see these turkeys, it could end bad ![]()
Can't agree with you Grim. If everyone had 15 to 20 yum towns could survive for millenniums.
I just had a weird life. Was born in black's village, pretty dead village, we had only one bucket of water and very little food, not even tools but a few iron ores. When I saw this place at begin I expected a disaster once I become fertile, but things turned out to be completely opposite... There were only 3 people, me, my mom and a guy. Once I started popping kids town's population started growing.
I was advising my kids to eat only yum foods because we had no water. People were making many yum foods and we ended with so many variety, nobody was eating berries, nobody was wasting water for regrowing them, nobody was starving. If people kept playing like this, this town could reborn and become a big place.
Imagine what could we do if we had 2 buckets of water :D (jk, someone brought us a bucket or two of water later, but still that's almost nothing)
Even tho I was pretty lazy this life, we were rekting it.
People just need to learn how to eat different foods and yumming, and things will become easy. Hopefully they will learn it at some point.
Maybe you need to fill email and key fields?

Today whites.

2 days ago browns. 36 people in a town that just made a deep well.
I'm not sure I like it. I would prefer to have more families. People are so lazy when there is so many people. I thought I would see so much variety of foods after the foods update, but people eat everything so fast that there is even less variety than before... Hard to plant onions or something with so big swarm of lazy people that only eat everything they see.
I think I would even prefer the old system with no baby distribution(all random) and a chance to spawn as an Eve, randomly.
Please.
Let us live independently please, without the need of help from other families.
Dammit, it was so fun to be able to make all things on our own...
Yeah, it was just a bad time, all towns were starving and people were dying like crazy, that's why you had so many babies.
Fun thing is, white's town had lots of water and iron, but nobody was producing food. People were dying like crazy, mothers didn't want to keep boys because we there was no food and they couldn't afford kids.
I mean, everyone could live if only people were working.
Are you advertising "you are hope", a mobile game?
It's not that cool, controls kida sux. I have it on my phone by I played it only a few times.
But they have some good things that OHOL doesn't. After death we can watch our family members, it's a great thing. How many times we died and we wanted to see how things are going?
And also recipe book.
You are a real artist Morti, these 4 curves are overhelming.
I see bagasse as a trash that would just waste space as long as people are keeping the fire going. Just get rid of it.
Don't mind using axe for making sugar tho, let's not get paranoid.
Coconut Fruit wrote:813 generations in longest family line. Are you saying it's impossible to live to 814 generations only because nobody did it before, Spoonwood? How about 815? or 1000? or 2000?
None of those are close to forever.
Damn, I really should carefully pick words when talking with you, Spoonwood. Treat forever more like a time between two arcs. Because we are talking about the game and not about real life, right?
If this game was played only by expert players, lineages wouldn't die out at all except for server resets. That's what I meant by saying IT IS POSSIBLE for a lineage to survive forever.
Of course this scenario won't happen and families will die out every while, because we play among tons of people who can't play and do more harm to their lineages than help them... And griefers.
Lineages will survive longer once people's skill increase... But then we will have more and more new players, so I'm not really sure it will ever be better :D
813 generations in longest family line. Are you saying it's impossible to live to 814 generations only because nobody did it before, Spoonwood? How about 815? or 1000? or 2000? If servers aren't reset it all depends on players how long their lineages will survive.
And by saying forever I meant as long as servers are running and as long as people are playing, wasn't it clear?
