Hmmmm how to haploid genetics?
Divided traits into categories which are each on a scale:
Hair = straight - wavy - curly
HairColor = black - brown - blond
EyeShape = round - almond
EyeColor = black - brown - green - blue
SkinColor = dark brown - light brown - tan - pink
Height = small - medium - tall
Endomorph = 1.2x character sprite width (might be better left for skinny/fat eating mechanics)
Ectomorph = 0.8x character sprite width (might be better left for skinny/fat eating mechanics)
Add some random chance of interesting mutations:
half-albino = red hair
full-albino = white hair, white skin, blue eyes
color blind = player sees game in grayscale
near sighted = current original zoom level
(default regular vision should be changed to the 1080p setting seen in the zoomMod.)
far sighted = 1440p zoomMod
dwarfism = 0.5x character sprite size
gigantism = 1.5x character sprite size
Then have the babies tend to be like the mother, or occasionally within one point of deviation of her.
So for example if mom has straight brown hair, her kids will also tend to have straight brown hair (of which there are several styles to draw from) but sometimes a kid has wavy brown hair, or straight blond hair. If you do this for all the possible traits the kids should come up with a nice variety even if the chance of change per trait is low.

Big towns are great! If the town already has a herder and a composter, make straw hats - they don't decay. When older grab a horse and cart and build iron mines. Retrieve iron, and straight branches. Make reed skirts and bring them home by the cart load, they don't decay either. Build flat roads to water, and set up wells. If the new water sources are plentiful enough start a new satellite town. Get cows. There's no such thing as too many cows...
Naming twins similar names is helping them grief, since no one will remember which twin is which.

Yes, compost needs to be revamped. There needs to be a category of "leftovers" for food, like animal bones or dirty tortillas, that can be used in compost. Wasting an entire bowl of fresh berries and carrot that could be more reasonably used to feed lambs or people, makes no sense. Nobody uses fresh food in compost. This is NOT a call for food decay. Just a more logical use for food leftovers.
Huge biomes would help, but the reality is that until modern mass transit we didn't visit other cultures except on rare voyages (bell tower equivalent.)
You could do something like make more and very different biomes that don't spawn near each other (no jungles anywhere near the arctic) with different local crafting trees. Then you can only visit/trade with them once both cities have created a fast travel system, say airplanes, that effectively teleport you to the other city and back.
But can we butter our popcorn?
Can notes be thrown in trash pits?

The very young and the very old are vulnerable and the realism is what makes the game so great. If you want to give your baby your stuff you better pick them up and keep them safe so someone doesn't take it, like candy from a baby. Also the very old having to choose their heirs and pass on their belongings is a good thing. Yes don't let yourself get advantage of. If you're an elder with knives and you're raisin old you better be passing that stuff along before senility gets you and you die of forgetting to eat... don't leave those knives to be picked off your bones!

How are all of you dying so easily? I can understand one surprise death, but after that move away! Like, leave the scene of the crime! The number of times I see everyone rushing TOWARDS the action and then practically lining up to be murdered next is astonishing. The only times I approach an injured person is to sew them up. Then I get out of the kill radius ASAP. I do my best to figure out who the killer is, and then avoid them.

Seriously though, until someone actually causes trouble don't make assumptions.
They may be hunting for the town sheep or cows or clearing out predators.
They may be the smith or shepherd or baker.
Getting killed by some random animal while busy.
Worst was when I had spend a lot of time catching a huge number of rabbits... 50+ ... I had made myself a full set of gear, and four backpacks, and four rabbits in each of the packs... I so bleeping proud of it all and was carting them back to town when I suddenly got killed by a random wolf from behind a tree. OMG I couldn't believe it. I was far from home and knew no one would ever find it. I was stunned... I would have paid a lot for a revive token just then.
