#276 Main Forum » Killed for the first time since the war sword update. » 2019-08-07 17:42:53

Before I start, this isn't a brag or a boast. I realize that if I played the game more than one or two lives a day I might have different results.

So last night I was killed for the first time in a longgg time. I was a toddler stabbed by an eve. I shouldn't even count it since I could have used /die and not gotten technically murdered, but I still dont ever /die. It's funny to me that it took until now to get killed by a sword (I was knifed by own family in the warsword update) and I just wanted to let you in on something I noticed

An eve who methodically stands at your gate mashing it with a heart above their head is NO GOOD. Every time I've seen it they have been murderers. KILL THEM ON SIGHT. Leave the peaceful eves who stay in the wild or are looking for a town to restart alone.

You are better letting in a small child from another established family town as they haven't lost all their lives, or got banned from all families for being killed. Its more likely for two towns to have peace between eachother, rather than you and that random eve who is most likely going to run in and pick up the nearest weapon.

It's ironic because knives are now, for the most part, the good guy weapon.

Oh, probably!

I think it basically seems like the same items that can go on a grave at the moment.

Can bonsais get put on a grave?

You're better to discuss this here, if you posted on discord it might get swept away in the many topics going on there at one time.

We had a thread here discussing it but it got swept away by necro threads

I don't think you're able to add soil to the spot but I'm not going to say it's impossible because I haven't seen anyone say it is or isnt. But I'd lean towards probably not.. I dont think dirt is considered a "small item". I don't think every small item has been added, so maybe there's some certain item if added will make it do something.

That being said there was a rumor floating around that the monument says a poem, and i was told it was in twisted's video, but I didn't see it when I watched.

Start the apocalypse then goofballs.

The Koreans will always be better than you for not needing a whole other discord and not bragging about it, or even bragging before it's even happened.

Is there a way to break down war swords?   I'd like to be able to free up the iron for other uses.

Swords to plowshares, as they say.

Throwing them through the roller turns them into rods which can be turned into much needed oil pipes

I wish it was otherwise, but I don't feel very hopeful.   Every time I check back on the state of the game, I'm greeted by more threads describing the horrors of war and random griefing.  It makes me want to play this game again about as much as I want to stick my hand into a blender.

Maybe it will be better this time?   Maybe it won't hurt that much?  Probably not.

See theres your problem. The threads and discord have been negative for months. I personally don't want to play after reading it either, but guess what I do, and that negativity doesn't follow me in game.

Ive enjoyed every life I've played since the rift. The angry people here can't take that away from me, but they sure as hell try.

It's not so different from us though, the machines of instinct that we are; hurt, initially, by a broken promise, we live on to destroy that which brought about our displeasure.

The bear looks like it wants to avenge its brethren.

Almost makes me feel bad for the bears..They just wanted to sleep peacefully..

Sigh..

Well this about confirms the other story someone told me.

Somebody is cheesing whatever's client and breaking it.

Do you still have their name in game?

#287 Re: Main Forum » Discord - The breeding grounds Of Griefing » 2019-08-05 13:01:33

Play the game how you want to play it.

I really only have a problem with people exploiting a bug and not reporting it.

Are you sure she wasn't on a horse? Ive had a glitch where someone was running like that away from me when I was on a horse. When I eventually caught up to them the horse appeared below them, and was just lagging.

You cut down the tree blocking the exit(Not sure how you got there) and helped me set up the kiln. I was able to get out and practice a whole lot more due to you good sir. Thank you, and I wish we could've understood each other. I'm not sure if you were trying to give me your backpack or not, so I didn't take it. You left, but when you came back, I had reset the area I guess by walking out. Sorry about that, didn't realize that would happen, or I'd have stayed inside for a bit longer. I'll be in there a lot over the next few days just to get things down more. Pretty hectic playing on the rift right now, and I don't want to make anyone angry with my lack of knowledge.

Its nice when someone breaks someone out, or helps like that.

Jason has talked about adding on to the tutorial. Even just one pit of soil and a pond with a few various seeds next to it would probably be enough of an addition.

#291 Re: Main Forum » Too Many Resets » 2019-08-03 09:22:36

I was trying to debate ya on the discord about it, but it's definitely better to discuss here.

I worded it wrong in the discord

The map hasn't always gotten wiped with every update, and there have been towns that made it through the update. This happened because the spot that had the longest lineage would be remembered and an eve is placed there when the server comes back online.

What's happening now is an apocalypse wipe because were going over the family limit. It was a thing he had to tweak until he had the data to see what to set it at.

We shouldn't see a wipe everyday or every other day now.

In terms of everything being pointless..

So at one time I felt the same way.

There was a city I fell in love with when I first started playing this game. It's still my favorite to this day, but for the sentimental reasons. This was back before we were even all on the same server, and the city even went through an update that killed off most established towns at that time (first newcomen update).

I was sure that that city was the top of the limit in terms of what a city could be and I would never see a better one. I was convinced that because of the time and effort put into it, there was no way any town would beat it..

But if you placed me in that city right now with the same tech and same game conditions as then, I would hate it. Even the corner town I played in, and left a note at yesterday, blows that town out of the water when put in perspective.

My point is that I don't think time and effort  put in should be without some sort of opposition and a chance to fail. While it shouldn't be impossible to make something last (the current gripe you are taking about, that i get and understand) it SHOULD be impossible to make something truly permanent.

There used to be a server called "one city server" it's basic premise was that everyone spawns in one spot and builds a city around the spot. It was fun building the massive city together and even building houses for ourselves, but once everything was built we kinda ran out of stuff to do.. Other than testing new content and battling in the arena. The map never reset and we never had any challenge really.

It was basically a no worries server and in turn didnt bring too much excitement. While i had fun there, it was easy to burn out on. The one time I felt any sort of challenge or peaked interest was a time someone griefed my house by destroying it and leaving a note that said "siezed by the D.E.A." because I was growing milkweed and shrooms.

TLDR

Permanence is boring, and while a city on the edge of forever sounds nice, it's actually boring and pointless as hell.

Ha, that must have been a funny moment.

Clearing trees and being like "uhhh wtf is this?... ohhhh i see"

If you want to kill someone they're pretty much dead.

I didn't mind the old "click-fest"  I never tried to kill anyone while that was the combat system, but the few times someone tried to kill me, I evaded it 100% of the time I believe.

If the combat system is going to remain completely simplistic (first click wins), I believe probability-based attacks would discourage griefing, forcing a griefer to show their hand with the risk of doing no damage, exposing them to a counter-attack or allowing the would-be victim to potentially escape.  Something like bows 50-67% accuracy, knives 67-75% accuracy, and swords remain 100% accurate.  Could be used to help balance bows, and force griefers to pick their spots.  Only problem is knife accuracy might have minimal impact due to ease of re-clicking.  Not sure if there would be enough time to allow for an escape and a would-be counter-attacker to ready themselves.  Bows would be substantially less effective in PvP though, and in my experience the most frequent random kills are a result of crossing paths with someone holding a bow.  In general the idea is to add a deterrent to griefers striking.  If accuracy was only moderate someone would think twice about risking their only arrow if it has a chance of failure, and exposing their intention if others are present.

Kinda related

He added a change today where you can't go into attack mode unless 8 tiles away, so you have to be relatively close to your target now. No more getting clicked on from across the map.

#294 Re: Main Forum » Why are half the servers offline and not rebooting? » 2019-08-03 04:56:38

Somebody on discord said that it has happened before, but I've never seen it happen.

Maybe he's shortening the server list?

#295 Re: Main Forum » Tarr's Monument » 2019-08-02 03:15:26

#296 Re: Main Forum » Clans, War and diplomacy » 2019-08-01 17:51:36

I was in an eis town and there were two older slinker males who weren't being bothered, even though they were from the enemy tribe in the middle of the war.

I think everyone saw them as defectors and let them help and left them alone.

The slinkers were wearing red when I saw them, so I made the eis start wearing blue.. I helped the war effort in that sense wink

Well, that seems like it was an okay night.

The "too many families" failure condition was set to 23, and here we are in all these happy towns this morning, 11 hours later.

There are still some things to work out, of course, but getting much closer.

Mornin'

Can you check how many families there were at that 2 hour mark?

Im curious haha.

#299 Re: Main Forum » My experiences from life at rift. » 2019-08-01 09:19:24

Quick little story

I was born in a reallllly bad eve spot, that wasn't even my original eves.. it even still had bones of the previous residents lol. but I tried to salvage it. My last girl cousin gets old and only has boys. It basically just me and my nephew left at camp and I told him to get what he could and head south east ( where I saw the most signs of civilization) I shot off ahead of him because I honestly didn't know where it really was, and wanted to see it before I died. It ended up being further than expected,  but I ended up finding a relatively advanced town for the time..but they were being swarmed by bears. I lured 3 bears out of the south of the town and went to lure the ones in the north when I saw my nephew again, he made it! Unfortunately I think we came at the same time as the bears, and we might have caught the blame. After I died of old age they killed him sad but his killer ended up getting mauled by a bear right after as as some karma.

We may have been the perfect cover for an internal sabotage.. but it was still cool to travel like that and meet up with him again in another village.

Sorry they weren't nice to us, but they were going through a lot.
